Happy Garden in Rochdale

Ok so in my 46 yrs I've seen plenty of arrogant experiences, 🙄 but the tall guy glasses and cap who seemed to be on the counter is up there with the best RUDE ARROGANT ATTITUDE. needs to seriously think about the fact that every action causes a reaction and if in life you choose to be like that with people don't be surprised when you get it back tenfold......

I don't leave review and he deserve for my first review. I can't praise enough to the gentleman who answering phone but serving me on the counter this evening. Very helpful and efficient even though he is busy and on his own. Please with the fresher of the food but bit spicy for me. I should ask for less chilli next time.

I always have great experiences visiting Happy Garden and always enjoy the food they provide. Always talkative and friendly when you come to pick up your order.

Always order from here. Absolutely spot on, food is always hot and tasty. The shop itself is always clean and very busy! If you order on the phone it might take a bit to get through as it’s busy, especially weekends. 10/10

5/5 for me, really fresh food, immaculate premises, lots of staff cooking and a very organised takeaway. Each dish I ordered was hot, packed with tasty veg and generous portions, well priced and can 100% recommend.

Order sweet and sour pork form here and ti was not cooked correctly and I ended up with food poisoning.

Just got salt and pepper chicken balls ontop of chips with Curry! Made super quick, all freshly made and I know it was could see all the chefs cooking it through a window you can see into kitchen. Very clean shop and polite staff! Food tastes 10 out of 10 and im on the fussiest people about check my reviews 😂 Will definitely return here when im in the area again. Order every few weeks and it’s always spot on. Lovely tasting food and always hot and on time. Cash only on delivery but it’s worth it is the best Chinese in Middleton by far.

Just had a beef in black bean sauce. Best I have ever had. Also try the salt pepper spare ribs. Amazing.

Use happy garden for the first time tonight took food over 1 hour to come and was cold will not be ordering again and it's a shame as was hoping this would be a good takaway

The best Chinese in the area. Good portion sizes, delivery is quick, staff are friendly, and we always get free prawn crackers.

Usually a lovely meal ... however this time the hips were dry and had obviously been recooked ... very disappointed

This place is so disorganised its unbelievable! we was told 20 mins for our phone order, so called in after 20 mins and asked for our order,then was told it wont be long, after standing there for another 40 mins ended up walking out, everyone one who phoned was getting told 20 mins! last time we are ordering from here,

Service is good but as its a very good place at busy times might be upto a 29 min wait.. Very clean and there is a window into the kitchen so you can see the food prep and cooking

DO NOT ORDER worse Chinese ever the man who is so rude and does not accept responsibility for giving out soggy stale warmed up chips from the day before and also the same with the prawn crackers really mediocre food with high prices spent over £30 and don’t accept to have warmed up stale chips from the day before absolute disgraceful attitude as I was told I was wrong and I have apparently not ordered from the same happy garden ? Like I’m that incompetent and would forget all it takes is a bit of responsibility and own up and an apology but this man will argue until he is blue in the face and he is also very rude

Best Chinese food in Middleton. Cash only, but well worth it. Delivery normally 40 mins - 1 hour. Its really busy, but sign of a great place.

We love Happy Garden! The food is delicious and is delivered as quickly as possible. It is always hot and tastes so fresh. One week we received a meal which was similar to what we ordered, but not quite what we asked for. We rang and told the lady on the front of house about this (fully expecting to be told that the error was ours.) However, the lovely lady asked how she could make it right. In less than 10 mins we had the meal we had ordered delivered to our door, piping hot and absolutely beautiful. I cannot recommend Happy Garden highly enough.

Absolutely shocking service! Called up last night to order a chinese, was advised the wait would be two hours, we explained that would be fine and we were willing to wait. After two and a half hours we called up and we were told it’s coming, our takeaway never came and we were clearly forgotten about! Really disappointed, would have much preferred if they were honest and admitted to forgetting the order rather than having us waiting at 10pm

The only Chinese I use. Food always hot when you pick up. Much easier and quicker to visit the shop, order and wait outside. Its reassuring that its always busy, then you know the food is fresh and hot off the wok!

My mother asked for a Chinese from her favourite happy garden. They told us it would be a 2 hour wait, because it was what she really wanted we told them we were happy to wait. We waited 3 hours, unfortunately, they forgotten our order. Really disappointed and my mums 85th was ruined.

First time order from Happy Garden but they close for renovation 🥲. Can't wait for them to open again next week. Salt & pepper chicken and Kung Pao dishes is my favourite.

Great food & speedy service, Atmosphere loses out due to keeping the port hole screens and always busy so not any friendly chit chat.

Absolutely disgusting customer service. We order from here regularly and have done for years. We were told our order would be 1 hour and phoned after 1:30. We were told “they’re busy and it’s being packed now”. Fast forward another 45 minutes and we rang again… no offer of any compensation just “we’re busy”. This is shocking - they shouldn’t be so greedy taking on too many customers. The last time I will order from them.

Our usual Chinese was closed, so we decided to try here. The food was disgusting. The Chinese sauce was way too sweet. The rice dish was way too bland and the sweet and sour chicken was way too hot. Unfortunately I will never go here again

Best chinese takeaway I’ve had!! Fab service and the sweet and sour chicken is to die for, this food never gets boring. Turned into one of my regular takeaways i can’t recommend enough!!!

We've been going here for a long time on and off and usually its delicious. Saturday night however was a different story, most of the food was mediocre but the worst part was the stir fried soft noodles, they smelt and tasted odd, which in return put us off the other food. I called them to which they said they would send the driver to collect them and they would have the chef check them out. I was offered another portion of them but i'm not sure why i'd have wanted one after the way they smelt and tasted. Didn't offer a refund for the item and offered no insight afterwards as to why they were the way they were. Going downhill big time, such a shame. Will not be ordering from here again i'm afraid.

Went Christmas Eve ordered over phone 6.20pm Was told to come and pick up at 7.20 got there 7.30 - 10 + customers in waiting for pick up. Told the counter staff twice - didn’t give me a time. All other customers saying they had been told a pick up time but still been stood in shop 45 mins + absolute disgrace shop got fuller I counted 21 customers - they couldn’t serve the pick up orders yet they were still answering the phone taking more orders and taking orders from walk in customers - disgusting. Left at 8pm went to a different Chinese on way home - no issue at all there.

Best chinese takeaway. Tried many and never found any that compare. Special mention to the Singapore vermicelli, curry and mini spring rolls.

Ordered food they sent the wrong order and apparently it was all my fault and had to pay again for it to be corrected man on the phone called Morgan was very rude the lady delivery driver was really nice and said it’s one of many complaints he’s had he shouldn’t be on the phone with his attitude towards customers

Used to be very nice but last 2 orders were average. The prawn crackers were stale and the food was bland….is it because there struggling with products and buying cheaper produce. Come on Happy Garden get it together because your food is no longer happy for customers.

Not at all happy just spent nearly 100 pound at this place forgot one of the dishes I wouldnt be bothered if it was a normal night take away but it's my friends wedding tommorow and all the bridesmaids decided we would gave a nice meal the night before the bride got married its ruined our night cause we havent eaten together no apology or nothing for the inconvenience it has caused no prawn crackers and 4 spring rolls will not be using again and I will keep sharing this place as I dont think they deserve the custom so rude

I come from Shaw to pick up Happy Garden. That's how good it is.

One of my favorites places. The food is always nice chips,peas and gravy is good. The only issue I have is on fridays,saturdays it gets very busy so can be a long wait.

Best chippy in North Manchester

Used this chippy for years but it's not worth the fuss now. They only accept cash, consistently get the simplest of orders wrong, are rushed and rude, and the English chippy food is very poor #BlackHoiSinGravy

Man who answers the phone the rudest person I've ever encountered on the telephone, asked for "Chilli Beef" which I've ordered multiple times with no problems but he tells me theres no such thing, I explained it was crispy beef in chilli sauce he said nothing called that the one I want is called shredded beef for future reference. I then check the Menu and its called deep fried beef in chilli sauce. I rang back to confirm this is what he has put in my order he said no we ordered the wrong thing and has already cooked it (within 90 seconds of hanging up the phone. Was a regular customer even at through Lockdowns etc but I'll NEVER order from this place again, this guy needs to learn who keeps his business running, THE CUSTOMERS!!

This is without a doubt the best Chinese takeaway in and well around the area it's well worth travelling to (but if you don't want to, they deliver) we've been going here for years and NEVER had bad food the staff are NOT rude they are just busy!!! it comes highly recommended.

Hot and sour soup always excellent and a winter warmer

One of the best Chinese takeaways in Manchester and I'm a real foodie and love my Chinese. If you order the duck that even comes shredded for you and you get plenty of meat as well. 👌

If I could leave 0 stars I would! When I ordered I was told 50 minutes delivery after an hour and 25 minutes I phoned to see where my order was.. I was basically told I was lying they wouldn't have said that it's an hour to an hour and 30mins delivery. We waited until an hour and 40 mins and my husband called back, no apology, they were rude on the phone and the man said I will call the driver and tell him to return it, he didn't and the driver came 5 minutes later. My husband took the food, which cost £50 and it was ALL cold! Cannot wait for ocean lounge to re-open.... Will never order from here again!

Best Chinese in Middleton! Sometimes it does take a while to get through due to them being so busy but it’s worth it :) We love the salt and pepper chips/chicken, Szechuan chicken, soups, soft noodles just to name a few. We have tried other Chinese’s in the area but will always come back to this one

Ordered DRY special fried rice & meat spring rolls. Rice was not dry and meat spring rolls soggy inside, not cooked properly. Rice nice but annoyed as chinese is not cheap!!

Rang up this evening to place an order, took a while to get through but when I did a male answered and I said please can I place an order to pick up so he asked my name which I gave and I politely said please can I have s&p ribs, chips and gravy to which he interrupted and aggressively began to spout off, but I could not understand what he was saying and I replied with a pardon, he then said yeah don’t understand do you…order one by one! In an aggressive rude tone like I was something off the bottom of his shoe. I replied politely I have used your take away for years and never ever have I been spoken to like that by anyone how dare you. I then hung up and was so fuming I was prepared to go round and complain…..instead I’m leaving this review and I had a lovely take out from Hills chippy and will be using better Chinese takeouts in Blackly who appreciate their customers. If you can’t hack being busy and you are ungrateful for that you need sacking as you are bad for business.

Absolutely disgusted with the customer service on the phone. Apparently this guy is the owner and the manager. He has no people skills. He’s rude and rushes you to order. Today my order was wrong after waiting an hour for delivery! For us then to ring up and be told it would be another hour before the rest of our food will be delivered. He had no sympathy at all and basically told me to go elsewhere. Well I will never order from here again. Never spoke to someone so rude!!!!

Really nice takeaway - does the perfect chips. Do sometimes have some issues with freshness (e.g. given soggy, mushy cucumber sticks with a duck pancakes order). Other than that, good food with great prices.

Really disappointed with how I was dealt with on the phone today when trying to place an order. The menu says to call to discuss any allergies with staff but upon asking what gluten free options were available, I was shut down by a very rude member of staff that stated they "don't do gluten free." I have no issue if there are no gluten free options but I don't see the point in having it on the menu to say to call and treat a potential customer with that lack of respect!

Never have I ever spoke to someone as rude as the man that answers the phone here. Doesn’t know the meaning of respect can not take the simplest of orders and get them correct and when you call up to make him aware of his mistakes he can’t accept the fact he has rushed you through your order and messed up!! They need to read there reviews and something needs to be done because it is damn right rude and very bad customer service!!!! And the fact nothing gets done with so many bad reviews shows they are clearly not bothered about there customer complaints!!!

i would advise people to take very good notice of what the price of the food they are getting and then checking their change ,my girlfriend went in and ordered about 6 items knowing it would be around the £15 mark ,the girl behind the counter said it was £20.10 ,my girlfriend picked up a menu and came to the car we totalled it up and it should have been £14.90 ,she went back in and told them about the mistake they said bring the food back ,she came and got it and went back in as they took it off her she noticed they had put another salt and pepper chicken next to the bag they then claimed they had took it out of our bag but we had already checked the contents ,my girlfriend then got really as mad as they were trying to make out she was lying which she wasnt ,suffice to say they gave us the £5.20 they had tried to rob from us and by trying to claim they had given us 2 salt and pepper chicken we knew it was not a mistake they made but they had deliberately tried to steal from us ,how many other customers do they do this too as this place is rammed out every friday and saturday ,we wont be using it again and another thing to point out is they only take cash and never provide a receipt so obviously ripping the tax man off as well no doubt and paying the staff of whom there are many i would say around 7 to 8 in the shop in cash ,watch your change they did this deliberately the thieving sods,cant knock the food but cant stand rip-off merchants and they had also tried this with myself once and short-changed me by £3 of which i pulled immediately and the same girl went oh sorry and gave me the £3 straightaway ,thieves

Best Chinese In North Manchester. Can’t understand the negative reviews here. It takes 40 to 100 phone calls to place an order here on the phone for a reason! Those that know good Chinese cuisine order here, been ordering here for years & have never let us down once, phone orders have been polite & delivery has been as described. Food delivered has always been hot/warm & delivery staff have always been pleasant. We’ve ordered a number of dishes over the past years & they have always been great. It’s the Chinese takeaway that we always compare others to & it’s very rare that any come close to the Happy Garden!!!!

Just finished my special chow mien it had to be rated 5 star delicious generous and tasty always is from happy garden tried lots of others from all over (had a touring caravan )not yet found anywhere to beat it,yummy.

Ignored the dozen or so reviews online which said the service here was rude and decided to call for a delivery anyway. We learned our mistake immediately... My partner was near tears after calling to make our order, she asked for a receipt and when they said they won't provide one she asked if they could even write the prices on the boxes of food so we could work out how much we had each spent. At this point they said 'we'll send you a menu, do it yourself' before hanging up. The abrupt rudeness was unbelievable and I immediately called them up myself to cancel the order - wasn't even asked why. I guess this is what TripAdvisor is for; pay attention to reviews like this one and avoid he hassle. Good food? Possibly. But with customer service like that I'd rather not bother.

My family & I have used Happy Garden for longer than I can remember. Past couple of weeks the operator has been rude & abrupt. A pandemic doesn't make you complacent, you do that with arrogance! It's the customers keep you going, not the other way around. Maybe time to take stock!!
