Hanuman Thai in Calderdale

Assunta Connor Me and my husband usually attend the brilliant music night on Sunday's. Last night we arrived early with my sister as she had never been before. She was hungry as we had been out all day with her...(she is recovering from a serious illness). We went upstairs hoping we could have a meal as we hadn't booked. We got a nice table for the three of us. We ordered 3 different dishes with rice accompaniments but when mine and my sisters arrived the dishes were not recognisable as the descriptions of the dishes on the menu. I had scanned the menu carefully to find a meal that wasn't too spicy and chose the one described as "milder curry with mixed vegetables and pineapple and my sisters chosen dish contained bamboo shoots which she loves ....both dishes contained neither of the ingredients described. My curry was extremely hot and I tried to eat it with streaming eyes and burning lips. I had ordered steamed rice but sticky rice came which was clumped together and tough. The egg fried rice that my husband and sister ordered was fine and they gave me some of theirs. I was not charged for my rice. My husband ordered ribs and the large rib of the 3 he got was solid bone with hardly any meat on it. He enjoyed the other ribs on his plate. We must have come on the wrong night. The one waitress who was on her own was extremely busy with orders and bringing up drinks from bar downstairs. Felt sorry for her actually ! It was when we started to eat the meal we realised we hadn't got what we ordered. In retrospect I should have sent my dish back but struggled on with it with the help of the good egg fried rice from my husbands and sisters plate ! My sister quite enjoyed hers although it had no bamboo shoots in it but she finished it as she was extremely hungry. We went downstairs to enjoy the music as usual and my sister enjoyed her first musical experience there. She said she wouldn't eat upstairs again though but would be back again with us for the music !

Had dinner with friends and love the look of the place shabby chic. Had no problem with bar staff great choice of beers . Had to go upstairs to restaurant area and when the food came I was disappointed. Paid £10 for a plate of noodles and just 3 prawns which were overcooked!! My friend's ordered a dish with rice and asked for a extra portion of chips, but no rice appeared so they asked still no rice! The chips were on the burnt side and they hardly had any chicken!! When I went to the toilet s they were in the cellar and going down 2 flights of stairs was risky after a couple of drinks, almost went flying!! The cellar and toilets reminded me of a Alfred Hitchcock film , creepy and grubby. Would go back again but at the beginning of the evening and only for a drink.

Arrived at the three moneys with our friends we booked in advance, nobody greeted us so we went straight upstairs we took our seats waited for three minutes the restaurant was very cold no heating on We was told that upstairs was fully booked, and that we would have to go downstairs ,we were shown to the back of the main bar it was untidy it was not part of the restaurant the waitress pulled together 2 scruffy tables which were on different heights we would not be able to fit plates on them , we informed the waitress that this was unacceptable as we booked in advance she said that she will get somebody to see us we waited for at least 5 minutes nobody returned so we left They ruined our night I will not be returning back here again

This couldn’t have been a worse experience. We visited from out-of-town for a takeaway. Website said it opened at 4.30pm. I arrived at 5.30pm to an empty restaurant. I wandered around to no avail, although I could hear voices. Eventually a staff member arrived on shift and took my order. Told it would take 30 minutes even though I was the only customer. Can back after 40 minutes, to be told it would be another 15 minutes. Food eventually arrived and we drove the 40 minutes home without checking the order. Big mistake! When we opened the order on arriving home, we found we were missing 3 items. Also, my husband’s pork curry was actually beef and the ‘tempura’ chicken was chicken goujons in breadcrumbs. The deep-fried food was all scattered with very unappetising onion rings. Contacted the restaurant who were very reluctant to refund us. Eventually they agreed to do a bank transfer for the missing items. 3 days later, we’re still waiting for that refund… I try not to give negative reviews to small businesses but honestly, this was a disaster. Unfriendly environment, terrible ordering process, average food and diabolical customer service.

10/10 well good! Would recommend the massaman curry!! Seems like a hidden gem that was surprisingly quiet. Needles to say we will be going back for more!

Absolutely love it. As authentic as you can get. Lovely warm and welcoming staff. Beautiful fresh food. Can't knock it. Amazing.

Had a takeaway this evening. The starters were lovely but the mains of crispy duck and pad Thai left alot to be desired. The pad Thai was pallid and uninteresting and the crispy duck was anything but crispy. It consisted of mainly bits of fat with a bit of duck thrown in for good measure. Not good and we won't be back

Absolutely stunning takeout. I honestly felt like I’d had a meal out. It’s the nicest this food I’ve had for a long time. Evil prawn 🍤 is superb. Really nice 👍🏼 free Thai crackers next time please 😘

I go here at least twice a month since Covid-19 and it's just as good as it ever was when you could sit inside. They do excellent food and it's unbelievably cheap. There is never not a clean plate.

Great local thai restaurant with varied menu. Personal favourite is the Evil Prawns! Nothing evil about them! Just delish!

We'd only heard great things about this little unassuming thai in Tod, and we got ourselves an unbelievable bargain when we came on a Tuesday - or curry night as we found out. For £6 you get a big plate of rice and the 2 different curries they chose for that night, some spicier than others, be warned! ;-) They work very hard in the kitchen, and the lady who serves was very friendly. This topped with a thai beer was a wonderful yet cheap night out for under a tenner, surrounded by golden statues and shiny temples...brilliant if you can't afford the trip to Bangkok!

Great little hidden gem ,great ale and beer selection good music and decent crowd of people come and go for a drink beverage or a meal .a must if your local or fancy a trip out

Can’t recommend this enough. Really nice relaxed atmosphere upstairs and the food is fantastic - some of the best I’ve had outside of Thailand. Downstairs is a really nice bar which had live music and again a great atmosphere - a really good all round night out.

Excellent window views of an old mill town with superd stone buildings.

We recently visited Hanuman Thai/The Three Wise Monkeys for food and drinks and it did not disappoint. We did not use the first floor of the building which is solely dedicated to the food side of the business (although there were plenty of people who poured in and out to do so) but instead opted to eat and drink in the downstairs bar area. The staff and customers alike were very approachable and friendly and there was a band playing a little later in the evening. (The bar area is also well known for supporting local artists and alternative music). Lovely atmosphere throughout. City quality in the country, really. Also, very well priced for both food and drinks.I ordered the Gang Pha (Jungle Curry) with duck and my partner ordered the Gang Panang (Panang Curry) with lamb and we were equally suited with our meals. There are also a very good range of vegetarian options available. Couldn't fault any aspect of our visit and would definitely return.

Myself and my friend were visiting todmordon and found this place and ordered a takeout. We sat in the downstairs bar and had a drink while we waited. The food was beautiful and as a vegetarian there was lots of choice. I'm gutted I live so far away from it.

my husband and i went here on the off chance as we found it on here. what a great little place, food was one of the best thai's we have had and we loved the mis matched tables and chairs. we will be back soon. oh and loved the fact the cat has his own chair downstairs in the bar. :)

Food is very good and service just right. Was very quiet so the room was a bit cold. (Bang on the heating on.. go on) Great though.

This restaurant has two identities. Down stairs The Three Wise Monkeys Bar; upstairs the Hanuman. The downstairs bar is very 1960's Wine Bar with occasional live music which has a great atmosphere. The upstairs (quite steep) is the Thai restaurant which is small and a tight fit which I suggest would be unsuitable for large groups unless pre booked. Having said all of that the restaurant provides a good comprehensive menu which delivers a good quality of Thai food; as good as I have eaten. So from that perspective the quirkiness of the layout presented no problem for our party of 4.Food Very Good. Service OK. Price OK. Staff work hard and are very helpful despite the slightly cramped layout. If you do visit then take advantage of the Bar - Restaurant split and you will certainly have a good time. I will certainly go again.Important -Check before you visit if your party includes very young children. Also the stairs to the restaurant are quite steep and may not be suitable for some of "us oldies"

I resisted going here for a while as I didn't think I would like Thai food, however after the first visit I was hooked. The dishes taste so fresh and tasty. I love the atmosphere of the place, it is relaxed and cosy and you would never feel out of place. The vegetarian mixed starter is phenomenonal and I'm told the meat is equally as good. A great range of dishes and I'm sure anyone could be catered to. Staff are welcoming, friendly and helpful and will help you if you have no clue what you are doing. Pricing is great and the the two curries for £6 on a Tuesday is a great offer. You definitely wouldn't leave hungry.

From the bar downstairs to the restaurant above, everything breaks out from the ordinary. No attempt here to follow the mass chains, this is truly unique.

We went as a foursome, had a few drinks and a meal, the evil ribs are very tasty, and the other food was excellent also. The service was friendly and i hope to return in the near future. all in all a very chilled evening.

We few of us decided to try here on a Sat night, overall Service said was good, the table was ready on time.

I can't complain at the food quality, it was lovely.

We decided to try this place after some recommendations from the locals. Great decision. The food was excellent, tasted brilliant and was quick to get to the table. The service was excellent and couldn't fault them.

I was skeptical when we first arrived but had been told the food was good and so wanted to give it a go! I'm so glad we did because the food was superb and very reasonably priced.

Lugar encantador, personal y comida increíble. Ahora hemos descubierto esto, volveremos una y otra vez. Me volvería a reservar una mesa, ya que puede llenarse bastante rápido.

Habiendo sido antes y disfrutamos de la cocina para la cena, reservamos con antelación el sábado. La comida no era tan buena como se esperaba y a pesar de varias solicitudes no nos trajo la jarra de agua que habíamos solicitado con nuestra comida.

Fuimos a cenar con la familia, ya que estaba recomendado y para ser honesto, desde el momento en que fuimos no sentirse cómodo, el lugar estaba muy apretado un poco difícil llegar al bar como asientos altos a lo largo de todo el personal del bar, no parecía competente y tomó un largo tiempo para servir bebidas. Cuando subimos las escaleras a la zona de restaurante nos pareció muy llena y las mesas muy juntos no hay espacio para moverse. Desde sentarse a recibir nuestra comida nos llevó 1 horas - 45 minutos cuando la comida no llega solo fue media. Necesitas un mapa para encontrar los inodoros que estaban en una bodega de trabajo en progreso debe mejorar. No me alojaría aquí de nuevo.

A quirky kind of place with a warm atmosphere and great music, serving fresh and delicious food. It's our go to place for a night out in Todmorden. Highly recommended

Had beautifully cooked sea bass, my fave dish here. Chips instead of rice so up market fish and chips with a twist really!Perfect before all the meat fest of Christmas started! Plus a choice beer from the bar donstairs

Recommended if youwant something quickly and freshly cooked, with no pretentions, just real thai home cooking.

Just ok. Had high expectations of this place after reading reviews. Mixed starter was tasteless and bland. Main course of green curry and a fish special was very good. More staff needed for a Saturday night as the 2 that where on couldn't cope with the footfall.

If you want proper authentic thai food come here. The surroundings and the ladies serving Actually made me think I was in thailand at times. First time I went was about 6 weeks ago, Ive been back every Sunday since. The duck Pad Krapow is amazing cant recommend enough.

Came here for a birthday meal. There was 6 of us and the staff could not do more for us. Great food, great atmosphere and great service. One of us was allergic to nuts and they specially prepared the food so that they was no possibility of contamination. I highly recommend this place and the prices were so cheap!!!

I have been visiting Hanuman Thai (or 3 wise monkeys as it is known to you and I) for a number of years now. So in numerous aspects, this review is merely a formality (as I would not have continued to visit if I didn't think highly of the food/staff). But regardless, I must state that Hanuman Thai (3 wise monkeys) is the best Thai restaurant that I have been to, and I would not be able to count the number of Thai restaurants I have been to on just one hand. The food is always served in a timely fashion, the waiters almost always have a big smile across their faces, and most importantly, it tastes good... Real good. Please, take a word of advice - get a duck pad Thai. You will not regret this decision. The flavours dance in your mouth, just the right combination of spice, salt, umami and soak. Five out of five stars. Don't take my word for it, visit yourself! It's very affordable.

Regularly frequent the bar downstairs a great place and food is always amazing. You can eat in the restaurant upstairs or in the bar area. Personally I prefer the bar area purely as there is more going on , music etc. But for a quieter meal upstairs is great.

I had my birthday meal here with the girls, it is great.Very small, but that adds to its charm. The food is spot on and the staff are lovely

Lovely food even though they forgot my main dish. Issue I have here is that the bar is shocking. No cold beers, the bar man could make a simple gin and tonic. Needs looking into

Have to say its always a little chaotic when we eat here but that adds to the charm to be honest - really lovely food, accommodating different dietary needs - love the spicy noodles and my husband loved the devil wings.

Tonight my husband went for a take away. When he got home the take away was the wrong order again!When he rang to complain they said to bring it back. We live 5 miles away! She tried to pass the blame by saying he didn't check the order. When he insisted this was a regular occurrence she hung up. We have been regular customers but won't be back!

We went after a recommendation and I am so glad we did! Omg!!! I ordered soup to start and I've never felt anything like it, I actually said out loud " what the hell did I just eat" the powerful flavours exploding in my mouth blew me away, the food was absolutely amazing, my partner ordered the ribs and steamed dumplings and I don't usually like ribs but they were also beaming in flavour and fell from the bone. Our mains again chicken with stir fried veg was just fantastic, we kept sharing each others and I was so full but didn't want it to end. Lots of lemongrass and coriander to add to the flavour. The bar served lots of different drinks to cater for everyone's taste. The staff were lovely and on the ball, immediately there if you needed anything. The place is quirky, small and very much my cup of tea, live entertainment downstairs and a comfy down to earth setting, we crashed out on the sofas listening to a band play old time tunes and we decided its our new place to go, we will be returning very soon probably within seven days. Fantastic !!!!!

All I can say is that every single time I have been here I've loved it!! The food is great and I love the extra spicy chilli and soy sauce ( Defo ask for this) Staff are always helpful and happy... And it's great value for money.Will defiantly be back...

Cool and vibrant bar and Thai restaurant that hosts live music and drinks from around the world.

The word 'quirky' props up a lot in reviews of this place, normally in a good way. I have had some fairly pallid Thai meals in the UK over the years. This place is anything but pallid. No hint of tired staples, boring imitations and lacklustre cooking going by what I have eaten here. It has all been top notch, the dining experience enhanced by kind and efficient service and a great selection of drinks. Bar music is way better than the rubbish you get so often elsewhere. A big thumbs up. I look forward to my next visit.

Came here after doing part of the centenary walk early Sunday evening, a bit slow with the service but it's just a chilled out place to relax, started to get busy as soon as we had got a drink, if you are in a rush just order your food asap from the downstairs bar or just go straight up to the restaurant, however the food was terrific so although we had to wait a while it was well worth it.If you are into your walking / hiking then you have to give Tod a try, loads of walks around the area with some stunning sceneryAnd then try some of the places to eat in the town but you won't be disappointed with Hanuman Thai.

Ate here with five of us early Saturday eve - good job we booked for 7 o'clock as it was a tad slow and we were only just finishing out mains at ten! The food was great though and the staff friendly. The music from downstairs after nine was very loud and not conducive to conversation so we were ready to leave - I don't think I'd go back at a weekend, but on a quieter night the foods worth a visit.

I have met friends in here for at least 3 birthdays. The food is fresh and delicious. The staff are nice and accommodating. Be prepared for a bit of a wait with a large group, but to be expected with all of the food being made fresh. Would recommend upstairs seating as downstairs can be awkward and is more of a bar area. Worth a visit! Great deals on in the week. Tuesdays you can get 2 Thai curries and rice for 6 quid. Ya just can't beat it!!

Went here for tea, I have lots of Thai friends so I'm a bit of a critic when it comes to the food, but I have to say I really enjoyed it I had the sea bass special and it was delicious, we will be back.

Really like the random haphazard atmosphere and good music at the Monkeys but wasn't sure that would translate into good food but, It does. Tried a variety of Thai Tapas, a prawn pad Thai, and a couple of beers after work - all good.Will definitely eat there again.

"Booked" a table over the phone and was asked if downstairs was ok, having never been before agreed to it. when we arrived the place was packed and down stairs is a thin bar and there was no reserved seating. Waited at the bar for 15 -20 mins to speak to someone but alas never got served. It was noisy and people were attempting to eat anywhere they could, they had plates balanced on their knees, propped on the bar and on any available bar table. The food looked nice but we never got to taste it. Gave up and went somewhere else with a chair and table. Be prepared for a quirky experience downstairs

Visited with family for the Tuesday night curry special. Great value and great taste. Highly recommend the massamman curry. £6 for 2 curries and a bowl of rice can't be beat.

What can I say about this restaurant, having travelled to Thailand can honestly say it is the most authentic, best thai food in the area, lovely, quirky and the staff are a delight. The Three Wise Monkeys bar downstairs is just amazing, wide choice of drinks and a fantastic atmosphere. We usually go into Manchester for New Years Eve but this year had the best night here. Thankyou.

We roll in at about 6:30, myself, my partner, her parents and our 1 year old.Lets get the bad bit out there first; They gave our pre booked table away to a random family with a baby also so we had to eat downstairs. Luckily it wasnt busy in the bar.We order food at about 7:00 and wait until about 8 until I ask where they are up to on food, I went upstairs to do this and there was a fairly large group of roughly 10-12 people so i guess they were pretty rushed off their feet. Either way our baby was getting grumpy as we had planned to have left by 8:30 at the latest. Our food comes at 8:15 and it is amazing, completely amazing, hats off its just such good food, cant fault it! It just took an hour and a half to come.We ate and my partner complained as Christmas Eve is her Christmas day as she's german and her parents were here, she was a bit embarrased to be honest. They let us have 20% off the bill and gave us a few beers for our way home.The staff are lovely and when every I talked to any of them they were polite and smiled, I could tell that the young girl working upstairs was stressing as she also said they had a large takeaway order that night.TLDR; Waited a while becuase they were heaving, had a baby who I had to rock asleep in the pram outside as he was grumpy, food came! Fantastic food and excellent communication with Staff.We will be back but we need to get a babysitter for next time, not becuase they didnt make us feel welcome with him, the staff really went out of there way to interact with him, but because it was so late by the time we left.

Been coming here for years now since the old owner Gig had it until she sold up to focus on the lion... The new owner Ning still runs the Thai restaurant upstairs but now also has the bar. Most recently I sat downstairs in the bar area to eat. I had a Beef Mussaman curry which was excellent as always and was made to feel very welcome and at home by the bar staff. Can't praise this place enough... Gem of Todmorden!

We have eaten here before with mixed results. This time was a fairly busy Saturday night. Not every table full, but most. We were left without service for about half an hour before ordering. Starters took another long while to arrive but were cooked well and were pretty tasty. Mains took about an hour to arrive after the starters and were blow average in quality with an overbearing taste of cinnamon. If you like our Thai food clean fresh and spicy this is not the place for you. We won't be returning

I went here last night to celebrate my daughters birthday with my 2 teenage grandsons. Plenty of choice for my vegetarian daughter and the boys with large appetites.Bar downstairs looked very atmospheric and the restaurant upstairs had interesting decor .We were intrigued by menus stuck inside children's picture books

Firstly, what a special looking place this is. Full of character and with a great atmosphere when we came in.Good was good. Very tasty and decent portion sizes.However, the service really let it down. The staff were lovely, there just wasn't enough of them. We waited quite a while after our main course and had they been more attentive I would have ordered dessert and my husband another beer. However, no one asked so instead we requested the bill which itself took a while to arrive. This is a shame as this distracted from an otherwise enjoyable night.Despite this, we'll probably give this place another chance.

Food is tasty here , nice and hot and spicy just the way I like it. Plus point is the great bar downstairs run by a lad called issac , friendly and fun with much going on.

We have been here a few times, eaten in and taken out. Sat and had a few drinks at the bar. Every time we are extremely happy woth the service and quality of the food. Again last night was no disappointment. We ordered our food through phoning up and decided to head down early to have a drink then pick up our food. The drink was lovely and they have a wide range of world beers for you to choose from. We then picked up our order which was again delicious. We had the 5 starter selection, green thai curry, sweet and sour chicken, noodles and sticky rice. They even threw in some free prawn crackers. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and will be back soon for more.

We used to eat here regularly till the knee sold it.Portion size shrank, service was terrible, and quality was bad.It went from great to terrible overnight.

The Hanuman is a quirky Thai restaurant that serves fantastic food. The staff are friendly and will always try and give you food that may not be on the menu if you want it. Don't expect white tablecloths and silver service, but you can expect 5 star food.

I popped in to order take out. Friends have had bad experiences with waiting times here, in the restaurant, but considering it was takeout I thought "what could go wrong" on arriving I was told it was 20% off takeout orders. I was the only person there and still had to wait almost 40 mins for my food. When it was finally brought downstairs no apology was offered for the long wait and the discount was not added to my bill. I won't be returning here again.

I went for the cheap curry night- a Thursday I think. Good curries, excellent value. We love the atmosphere, its pretty special.

One of your more unusual sort of dining experiences but certainly one to be repeated!!! Surroundings, decor, ambience - all unique to this brilliant restaurant tucked away in the narrow streets of Todmorden. The nicest, friendliest staff you'll ever find, great food and Early bird special offers, what more can you ask for?

Sonny & Isaac are fantastic hosts at the downstairs bar, while the Thai ladies show off their culinary skills in the upstairs restaurant! It's easy to see why this is a firm favourite in Tod! A really nice vibe, great food, LOADS of choice of beers!! Enough to keep youGoing for days! I'll be back again and again and again!

I've been to the three monkeys/hanuman Thai a few times and it's always a treat. The foods lovely, the staff are great and everyone's really friendly. It's a great relaxed atmosphere, you can eat downstairs in the bar and I usually end up chatting to new people. I love the cocktails and the range of drinks, which is good as my partner can be dead fussy. They've got good taste in music too!

Visited this place a few times now. Very small place I would advice to book, food is lovely with great flavours, everytime I have visited haven't been dissapoinment so i would recommend.

We have visited this place quite a few times to eat and just pop in for a few drinks,we order takeaway quite frequently as the food is to die for,if you like heat order the spicy beef salad!!Only downside is its quite pricey for takeout and they dont deliver,but dont mind paying that bit extra when it's all cooked from fresh.Also do 20% discount on all takeouts ☺

Great venue, nice relaxed bar downstairs and a nice dining venue upstairs with great views over towards the town hall from the windows.Food is lovely, good range of Thai Curries, noodle dishes and starters. The Daddys Sea Bass is a good choice, good choice of beers and also good value.

We've been here twice now, WOW!!!! Taste buds truly entertained and fabulous service. This was my birthday treat.

I have been coming here since it first opened and have never had a bad meal. Service is always good, food is yummy, fresh and the choice is vast-including to eat tapas style in the bar downstairs. 3 Wise Monkeys is also great, good atmosphere, amazing cocktails, nice beers and fun events. Cannot praise this venture highly enough :)

Ordered our food tonight. Got there to pick it up. Got back home to Walsden. Unpacked it and it was the wrong order. Rang them and they had given us the wrong order and the man whose order we had was waiting there. Drove back and they had the cheek to then charge us an extra £1 for our order as we paid for the wrong order. My husband said they should honor it as we had to drive back and they were very rude. Not apologetic at all. Ordered from these before and had pancakes and they were white pancakes and not green what I had ordered but thought we would give them another chance. Over priced for what you get. Husbands beef was chewy and not nice. The only good thing about it was my prawns which were huge but other than that we won't be back!

We popped in here for a quick and tasty pre-theatre meal and we got what we wanted. The menu looks quite interesting, so we may return for more when we have longer to linger over starters & puds. Casual dining downstairs (not sure what it's like upstairs).

Was hoping for more but the experience was just a little mundane. I really like Thai food and have had some very good meals in places that clearly took trouble to provide a better experience. This sadly does not! Maybe will give it another go.

Been a few times as it's an ok Thai place but with a quirkiness to it. The menus are modified vintage children's books and the decor and furniture is mismatched which is in keeping with the building. Love the chilled bar downstairs. Nice service and love the starters but the mains lack a little something. Some meals are too watery, some small. Somewhere we will come back to but it just seems to have something missing

It's not the sort of place you want to go sober as you would be disappointed with the speed of the service and how much "stuff" they had run out of - sticky rice, beancurd and certain beers. For a very small restaurant it did feel dis-organised and short staffed.BUT, it was fun! Menus being stuck into noddy annuals, the kitsch decor and the enthusiasm of the staff made it a night to remember. We were a little worried at first as everything appears to have a veggie option - even the chicken tempura (?), but actually the food was good - and we got a free dish as an apology for running out of a lot of what we ordered.

Apparently there are new owners now. We went there on a 'lad's night out' for a meal after sorting my bro-in-law's 'lectrics when British Gas, with their usual high level of Customer Service left him with no power on a Saturday afternoon.The food is excellent. I had a Jungle Curry as I'm not keen on coconut, which most Thai food seems to be based around. My companions had various dishes - lots of seafood, which I tried and liked - everything was so fresh and tasty!! I asked for the curry to be medium hot rather than the usual mindblowing and that is exactly as it appeared - absolutely superb - feeling hungry again as I write this! Everything was cooked on demand and was absolutely fresh. Superb flavours - and they still use the cartoon storybooks as menus. A vast choice of beers downstairs and a casual atmosphere - don't dress up for this place - be informal and comfortable. Do it!! enjoy!!

With both my wife and I liking Thai food we decided to try this restaurant as it is the nearest genuine Thai restaurant to our home.The arrangement is somewhat strange as there is the "3 Wise Monkeys" bar downstairs with the Hanuman restaurant upstairs. You are required to purchase your drinks in the bar and take them upstairs with you. The restaurant is small, around 6 tables, and quite dark in both lighting and decor. Seating consists of hard, high backed wooden chairs with loose cushions and the tables are covered with plastic tablecloths. The floor is bare boards.The menu is best described as vegetarian to which you then add a meat of your choice. My wife selected the hot & sour soup, which was extremely spicy, followed by Ban Thai. She was disappointed with this main course having had much better recently at our hotel in Barbados. I chose Satay chicken as my starter with the Jungle Beef Curry as the main. The chicken was on skewers and came with a side dish of raw vegetables in vinaigrette. It was nice but the satay flavour was very light. The Jungle Curry consisted of vegetables and fried beef served in a very thin broth-like soup. It was substantial and quite tasty but I would have preferred a thicker consistency.Given that the meal was less than £25 for the two of us, excluding the drinks purchased downstairs, it was excellent value for money. Would we go again, maybe but not in the near future.

I must say we have been to this eatery many times and it is simply the best. Excellent food excellent service and excellent drinks

This place is weird!! ...... in a great way... Hanuman Thai - or is it the 3 wise monkeys?... anyway - the owner, Gig, is super friendly and although I'm not a fan of Thai food I'd happily eat here regularly... there's loads of choice and it's all very tasty.At nights it really comes alive as a bar and music venue playing host to mostly local bands and acts - generally all of a high standard.The decor is as quirky as the owner - a genuine one-off.

Hanuman Thai is a lovely little restaurant. The food is authentically Thai and there is always service with a smile. Everything we've tried thus far has been good quality and very tasty. There's plenty of choice and it's good value for money. Try it! You won't be disappointed. Afterwards, nip downstairs to The Three Wise Monkeys for a cocktail or a bottle of real ale. A great all round experience!

We'd come with family - cousins whose kids had never had Thai food before - so it was great fun paging through the extensive menu (very quirky, as it is pasted within pages of children's books - which kids can read while waiting for the food) and explaining how the ordering worked. Good thing the reading materials were available - service was very slow (despite us being the only customers in the restaurant).But when it came, mostly Pad Thai with chicken, prawns, or duck; a green curry; and a seafood platter, the kids loved it - groaning with pleasure at each mouthful of the new exotic flavours - so much fun to watch! My green curry was fine but not exceptional.

Small, quirky bar cum restaurant that serves a huge range of beers, wicked cocktails and amazing Thai food in the restaurant upstairs. Busy at weekends, expect tunes from a number of varied DJs while you peruse the menu or enjoy a drink. Constantly changing artwork lines the walls (most for sale), booking recommended at busy times but they also do take-out.

Three wise monkeys is a small bar and restaurant, it can get busy, but everyone is friendly and the other customers are often an interesting artistic bunch. I have been several times and never been disappointed. My latest visit was with friends , who are very well travelled and have been to Thailand, they enjoyed the food very much and there was pleny of vegetarian choice. There are often musicians playing and this adds to the ambiance and overall enjoyment. If you are a free spirited person give it a try!

Make sure you book a table for this place as the restaurant isn't huge. Very quirky and eclectic but it adds to the charm. Loved everything I've eaten here and will always go back. The service can be slow at busy times however they can't do enough for you. The bar downstairs is brilliant and Gig has a great venue!
