Cafe Solo in Calderdale

Gone down hill, sadly. Rarely open, no food, no staff, no vibe. Hopefully, it will soon change hands again. Currently, it is seemingly shut down.

I have visited HealdGreen Hebden Bridge at least twice a year. The last 2yrs going to Solo Cafe. Always good food and coffee. My daughter, husband, and myself were all visiting for a breakfast treat, from my daughter. We ordered our food. Coffees great. guy came from the kitchen and said, "So busy Saturday, there was no bread as requested from the menu, but I could have a roll for sausages. No problem. What he did not inform us was that there was LITERALLY hardly any food to serve up in the kitchen. The 2 women who came in after us were told no food being served. 11. 15 am!!. They left. We were busy chatting, so we did not think how this would impact on us. 1. Cold fried eggs on thin white bread.Husbands food 2 Should be door stop cheese on toast. Thin white bread with a thin, literally thin layer of cheese. Cold again( my daughters order) None of us wanted to kick up a fuss as my daughter was treating us, and we did not want to spoil the occasion. It was only later that day we all confessed that the food was terrible. Why not be honest, NOTICE on the door drinks only, why turn away people after us SAYING NO MORE FOOD and not inform us of lack of food in the kitchen ! Cook said to us , "No staff and had been so busy on Saturday very little in." This, after we ordered and waited and waited and waited. £25 My daughter paid for an utterly poor breakfast for us No heating, it was really cold, and kept coats on. Thought it was because the cafe had just opened!!!. Shame on owners. We will never visit again. Advise others to think twice after this Sundays offering.

We came from Cheshire 29th Nov for Xmas shopping. I've been to cafe Solo many times, and food in the past was good. This time dreadful , verbally poor. Food ordered by my husband and daughter cold, not on bread as described on the menu. We waited ages for food to be informed by cook almost sold out of every thing due to busy Saturday. He said, "Would I mind bread roll for sausagess said no problem at all. He said no staff, hence our long wait. My daughter was treating us, so we did not like to kick up a fuss. People after us turned away staff stating no more food. Why not put a notice first thing on the door stating drinks only? Why allow us to order knowing very little fresh food left in the kitchen? I was so upset my daughter spent £25 of her hard earned money on food only fit for the bin. It was only later on that we all admitted what a terrible experience it was. The heating also never came on

Fabulous breakfasts on two successive days. Eggs Benedict with local sausage and bacon had me close to tears. Exceptional. Friendly and speedy service

Can’t really give a rating as it was closed at 16.15 even though the website said 17.00. Most disappointed as we travelled some distance to visit here.

Used to be excellent, hence the reviews. Kitchen closed so no food. Different staff each time we’ve visited. Tried today just now, not open despite earlier advertised opening time. This place has had its day and has become something of a joke, which is a pity

Cafe Solo is proof that just because you've always wanted a cafe does not mean you should buy one if you don't have the experience to back it up. I used to get coffee from them 5 times a week and food 3 times but now ill only get something from there if someone else has bought it for me. The decor is awful and doesn't look finished, the ingredients are insanely inferior to what they used to be, the coffee can only be served small because whoever bought the large takeout cups hasn't been a cafe since the 1980s. Its up for sale (again), good.

Was closed when it was advertised as being open. No sign outside either, to say why? Another one bitten the dust?

We were hoping for lunch.Arrived at 12-30pm and were told only coffee and cake.A shame as it was my first ‘go to’ coffee shop in Hebden.

Went today for breakfast and was very impressed. I’d read the positive reviews and Cafe Solo did not disappoint. The breakfasts were very well-presented and delicious and the busy staff coped well with a full cafe. Nice mixture of customers including walkers, cyclists and locals including infants and dogs. Will definitely visit again.

Awful coffee, which based on the cardboard like taste probably weren't fresh beans. The items included in the fry up breakfast were of very low quality. The sausages were the equivalent of Walls (hardly any actual meat content).

I visited this Cafe Solo in Hebden Bridge based on its super rating on trip advisor and I’m glad I did!!. From the outside the cafe looks smart, modern, yet cosy and in keeping with the town. From the inside there was a great combination of comfy and table seating. We opted for comfy with a window view. The decor is fresh and clean and the vibe is warm and inviting. The pace is relaxed and we were greeted with a smile and invited to take a seat of our choosing. The menu serves an all day breakfast/brunch as well as lunch with a broad range of fresh sweet treats behind the counter. The coffee was the best I’d had in a long time! I also had a smoothie which was delicious and great for a healthy option. I had the smashed avocado on sourdough with poached eggs which was AMAZING and the presentation was very high end! They have lots of options for the little ones and my toddler really enjoyed his fruit tea cake. They brought out colouring book and crayons and to top it off they are dog friendly too! Even brought over dog treats after asking if it was okay. The toilets are clean and also have baby changing which was fantastic as many smaller cafes don’t. The locals all love it and they have lots of regulars and great to see the owner working in the kitchen and personally serving the delicious food! So friendly! Can’t wait to come back next week!

Good for hikers and behaved dogs

Never been to a more friendler cafe. Me and my friend went on Monday and the staff and people were just so friendly and lovely. The food and drinks were amazing as well, really enjoyed the victory sponge cake and my friend enjoyed her milkshake, she drank it within seconds lol. 100% be going again when I have free time.

And they don’t offer much… but wow do they do it well. Lovely quirky little place. Very nice guy on the front, breakfast was amazing. Highly recommend

Nice coffee. Bacon butty wasn’t good. Stale bread, not real bacon it looked like spam, and they forgot the ketchup….

We enjoyed delicious breakfasts today at Cafe Solo. The veggie and traditional were huge with perfectly cooked poached eggs and bacon! The service was really quick and so friendly, such a laid back atmosphere in the cafe . We will certainly be returning and can't recommend highly enough, big thanks to the two chefs who cook such tasty food!!

Right now it's under new management and looking very soulless because they're getting ready to decorate the place. I'm sure it will look better in a bit when they've sorted it out. Coffee and staff still very good!

We love coming to this cafe every weekend. The coffee is the best in Hebden, and the food is fantastic! The new owners have been able to continue the same standard of customer service and food/drink since they took it over. The new design looks great too! Would definitely recommend.

Cafe Solo has always served the best coffee in HB and despite change in ownership earlier this year this is still the case. The new owners have put a considerable effort into redecorating and it now has a much lighter feel but still the great friendly welcome. I guess some folk don’t like change but the food and coffee is the same which is the main thing. The menu is still the same as when the previous owners were running it and the halloumi Mediterranean ciabatta (my favourite) is just as delicious. Always my go to cafe in HB though best visited in the summer when all the cafes with outside seating are packed !

Service from the lady making the hot drinks was lovely, and the coffee was well made, but sadly that was about it. The coffee cups are being cleaned In a very rusty (which is dangerous) pot wash which is visible from the tables. Food and drinks took a long time to arrive. And the quality of the food wasn’t great. The hummus was lovely, but the pittas were burnt, very very burnt. Partners sandwich was so wet it was hard to eat, and no napkins provided for any mess. Her sandwich was also missing it’s side as well. No cutlery available for me to eat my side salad. Sadly couldn’t wait to get out and go somewhere else. A real shame. Read some of the reviews have implied it’s under new ownership so hopefully things improve soon.

Best cafe in Hebden. The cakes are so delicious, fresh and light. A stroke of genius putting frozen strawberries on top of the cheesecake. Really lovely staff who work so hard with a smile. Thank you ❤️

This cafe used to be 5 star but has had a change of management. Great service from the bubbly lady behind the counter. Food poor. Toast barely toasted, butter dubious and bacon sandwich rubbery. Unfortunately will not be going back

Found this place after walking up to Stoodley Pike. I ordered the full breakfast, my partner ordered the bacon, brie & onion chutney ciabatta. Easily one of the best breakfasts I've ever eaten. Every individual aspect of it was superb, especially the bacon and sausages. Reasonable price too for both meals. Needless to say we bought two cakes to take with us. Great service, and would happily recommend to everyone.

Tasty options in a great location. The staff was courteous and didn't wait to be served. All in all, a good experience.

Popped in and had a pot of decaff tea and a Victoria sponge cake. Both were good. Would definitely come back.

Cafe Solo was recommended by someone in a bar, it was well justified. The service was great, the food matched. We had a piece of pecan pie to take away. My wife said it was one of the best she has had.

Lovely little cafe serving coffee cakes and light lunches. We had hot chocolates and cakes this afternoon. All delicious but definitely couldn’t have more than one cake! Loads of vegan options.

Small yet very pretty cafe, run by lovely people. Well cooked and good priced food that is just spot on if you're out and about. The coffee is excellent. Flat white is epic. Caters for vegans, vegetarians and all other folks. 100% worth a visit.

We popped in today passing whilst visiting the Christmas market shopping for gifts. We received a lovely warm welcome from the lady at the counter who was helpful suggesting drinks for our indecisive son! Lovely modern interior, very clean and inviting and delicious latte and flat white to go. Quaint and quirky with delicious offerings, would definitely recommend and looking forward to covid been over so we can visit to dine in soon too! Wonderful flavoursone coffees.

Visited cafe solo again. First trip to hebden since lockdown. Not disappointed, coffee lovely as usual. Safety precautions in place, looked less tables than previous, hand sanitizer available although I always have my own. Definitely still one of my fave cafes. Food looked great although I didn't eat on this occasion.

This is a truly fabulous little café, the food is always delicious, you won't find a better caramel slice this side of anywhere and it serves the best coffee in town. Hand sanitizer is provided on the tables and the menu has been posted on the wall next to each table to prevent infection spread from menu handling.

15th August, every table full, sanatiser as you enter the only safety measures it seemed.Menu is paper stuck to wall, or told to walk down and look at specials behind counter. Order meal at counter no social distancing. Staff and customers chatting away standing round counter, no social distancing at all. Asked if they wanted contact details, and stared at. Felt very uncomfortable. Sort this out.

Been here before on previous trips to Hebden Bridge and always enjoyed it so went back again on Friday 24 July. It seemed as though nothing had changed. Coffee and cake were good but the only safety measures it seemed were that the tables were being sanitised and there was hand sanitiser on the table.We had been to the pub (Vocation) the night before and it felt very safe. Tables well spaced, table service only and no one standing about. Here was the opposite. Staff and customers chatting away stood six inches away from our table, ordering at the counter and no social distancing at all. Felt very uncomfortable and left quickly. You need to get this sorted out.

Visited Solo Cafe after a walk along the canal. We just wanted something quick and easy to eat and drink, which we found in Solo Cafe. I opted for a Greek ciabatta and my boyfriend had the bacon, brie and onion chutney, both of which came with side salad. Mine was delicious - the halloumi was cooked perfectly. There was a great selection of cakes too; I had a vanilla biscoff cheesecake which was so moreish. We didn't have hot drinks so can't really comment on the coffee although it did seem very popular with the customers who visited. The service was great - didn't catch their names but all of the staff were very welcoming. The woman who was working behind the till came across happy and was very chatty and pleasant to everyone who came in, including ourselves. Would definitely visit again!

I love the food, service and staff here that much I ran over 13 miles to Hebden Bridge for Cafe Solos bacon and egg butty and flat white (and a cake to undo all my good work) and my goodness,it did not disappoint. Always super friendly, great atmosphere and delicious food, cant wait for my next visit. Keep up the good work guys!

A small, very friendly place serving great coffee and a variety of healthy dishes. A special shout-out to Molly and Jakob who were in full control of the coffee and food on the Saturday we were there. My herbivore ciabatta was packed with flavour and my other half’s smashed avo on sourdough toast was just great. Loved it.

Ducking the rain and fighting the wind on a Saturday after arriving in Hebden Bridge, we found Cafe Solo on Market Street. This is a lovely and cosy cafe, with the most cheerful staff - Jacob and Molly took great care of us. I went for the Avocado Deluxe on toasted sourdough. A very generous plate arrived with gorgeous bread, avocado, feta cheese and tomatoes - absolutely perfect! The coffee was also very tasty and we cannot wait to go back to Cafe Solo next time we pass by Hebden.

Damn good coffee. The waitress was a bit strange but made us very welcome!

Busy but chilled cafe that is well worth a visit. Liked the good choice of food and drink especially extensive veggie and vegan choices. Nice specials board plus great selection of cakes - especially home made brownie.Only scoring a 4 as service was stretched on our visit. Took a good 10+ minutes for coffee and cakes to arrive after paying and then not all at the same time.

Lovely staff, great range of cakes, quality coffee, a couple of really comfy chairs if your lucky and quality coffee. Never had food so can't say anymore than it looks good

I was visiting Hebden with a friend and she suggested this cafe. I had a lemongrass tea and a beetroot and halloumi salad, both were lovely. A great place to warm up on a cold day.

We visited the town earlier in the year and called in this cafe to eat and were impressed. When we returned we made the effort to find it again. We both ordered meals that needed some alteration due to allergies and the staff were quite happy to accommodate us . The food was utterly delicious and healthy. The cafe had a lovely feel to it and was modern and clean . the toilets w ere immaculate. Very happy , Said so and the chef came out and thanked us . Really delighted and will come again

Great full english breakfast and quality coffee this morning - perfect start to day

Great for just coffee and cake. Obviously popular with local.people . Tea bag and large tea pot of boiling water served side by side. In spite of this the tea brewed and was plentiful . food order very slow.

Friendly hosts offering great coffee and tasty food. The Herbivore ciabatta was excellent and the meatballs were served with cheese and a delicious pesto in a toasted ciabatta. Will visit again with pleasure.

I work nearby and go here for everything from breakfast, lunch and a quick pick me up coffee. Everything with avocado is delicious and really filling. Portuguese (custard) tarts are best I’ve ever had and the bacon butty with tomato chutney is beyond words and worth the wait. Delicious. Love all the staff, new owners are amazing. Love!!!

Was on hols in Hebden Bridge over the Aug BH weekend and we went here for 2 out of 3 of our breakfasts. One of the best veggie breks ever here: veg sausage, hash brown, fried mush and baby toms, lovely poached egg, more than average amount of baked beans, and some slice avocado (plus great thick toast). During our visits, between us, we also had a bap with veggie saus in and a humous and halloumi ciabatta. Also really tasty and good vfm. Very dog friendly. And a also a really cheery welcoming manager (the guy with the beard)....when we move to the area next year this will be a regular haunt!
