Desperately poor, turned up on recommendation. The member of staff didn’t know if Sunday roasts were served at 5pm or not, no idea of what the fish of the day was, not sure if we could eat outside. Then took the order and missed my main course off, I only found this out after all my families meals were delivered, to then be told they’d run out of my main course. The whole experience was a shambles. They gave us 50% off the bill but not the point after leaving hungry and such a rubbish experience! Looking at the table next to us and TripAdvisor it seems to be frequent!

A second visit since last year in the busyness of August. The hotel was buzzing with families, happy children and dogs. The staff were cheery and helpful and we all enjoyed our Sunday lunch choices and dining outside (with dog).. The beef, pork, lamb and fish were all excellent and served with ample fresh vegetables. Thank you .

The Restaurant is lovely in this historic old mansion. The service persons were friendly and competent. The wine selection was great, and the food was delicious! My boyfriend had the seafood stew and I had the Hake. The star of the show was the dessert: Eton Mess. The Eton Mess was made with a gooseberry puree, (the perfect tart/sweet combination ), meringue pieces, and whipped cream. It was perfectly flavored, and not too sweet.. it was perfect and quite the flovor surprise! I had read such horrible reviews about the food and the service, that we were reluctant to try this restaurant. But, we met someone who was staying at Fowey Hall and he raved about the restaurant.. and he was right, it was fabulous!

The restaurant seemed unable to cater for gluten free. The dish I ordered was deemed questionable, so I asked for a plain salad to go with the heritage roasted beetroot and chicken. The salad came swimming in dressing, in a side bowl, with no chicken or beetroot. When I queried it the waitress returned with it transferred to a dinner plate and 5 really small slices of fridge cold chicken...(still no beetroot), for which I was charged £5 on top of £12 for the salad. Dessert, a knickerbocker glory took 25 mins to serve. I was however given a slate with the white chocolate message Happy Birthday with some strawberries (3) and 2 blackberries. (Whoop whoop) With tap water, roasted garlic prawn starter, my meal, dessert, a small coke and a pot of tea, plus similar for my husband, the total cost was £105!!! Never worth it, and quite spoiled my birthday. We won't be returning or recommending.

Very poor service. Had to wait more than half an hour to order, despite the restaurant not being at all busy. Finally had to go inside to ask for someone to take our order and to order drinks. Had to ask twice for the table to be wiped down. Food was quite poor and lacked seasoning. We asked for salt and pepper but it took a long time to arrive. I asked for bread which, when it finally came, was two slices of a sliced white loaf.

I booked in with my wife for my 68th birthday, a one night stay. I chose the Fowey Hall because of the menu. I was prepared for the big bucks bill that came with a high end venue, but I was not prepared for the poor quality food. My wife, a vegeterian, couldn't eat the tortellini, saying it was smothered in a sickly cheese sauce, She sent it back and the hotel didn't charge us. All she had after was the apple tart which she said was OK. On my side of the table, however, I had the cheese souffle to start. It had burnt edges. We were served some rye bread with oil & balsamic but was that it for £12 for a starter? Most shockingly my wine was warm. A second glass was less warm but a catering basic had been missed in that consideration was not paid to red wine temperature as well as white. My steak was overdone medium with an inedible leather side. The menu gave me one free extra and I chose Jus, there being no cheese sauce without peppercorn. For £26 that meant there was no salad or accompaniment on the plate, just a small metal pot of ordinary, salty chips. The dessert was OK but only OK. Next morning at brekfast we were invited to choose a table. I ordered from the menu and my wife was invited to choose from the buffet. I was not invited to the buffet and so went without cereal/juices/toast/fruit etc, assumng that I was supposed to have access to the buffet having ordered a cooked breakfast. I was too embareassed to ask and am still not sure aas I write this review. My cooked breakfast had quite tasty meats but was very modest - sausage, 2 small rashers of bacon, crunchy hash brown and single mushroom slice. I chose not to have the baked beans. My wife had a bowl of fruits with yoghurt, which she said was OK. Look, this stay was supposed to be special and cost just under £450 for a one night stay, dinner and breakfast. I cant get my head around how badly thought out, and then how badly done the overall food experience was. This was not second rate but third rate. I would have sucked it up in a basic brand hotel, but am honestly appalled at the thoughtlessness around every aspect of this hotel's catering. Not good enough!

Having read some reviews during the renovations and post pandemic I was slightly anxious - but our Sunday Lunch was excellent. Pleasant staff with eagerness to please, great seating outside or in the restaurant. Pricing of food was good and quality evident. The hotel is well used to accommodating customers with dogs and is very family friendly. Highly recommended from our perspective.

We booked ca table for 2 for dinner at the Fowey Hall Hotel for the 22nd May 2023. This was confirmed in an email from the hotel dated 15th March. 2 days before we were due to go to the hotel for dinner we had a call so say they had another booking and they could no longer hold our table. They then sent an email saying it was us that cancelled the booking. No apology nothing. A venue to be avoided.

Sunday lunch mid September 2022 and areas for people and people with dogs quite busy. Lovely welcome from young lady on reception, but after that it seemed young and inexperienced staff weren't supported. For the location and quality. We thought fairly priced for 3 courses, and the "overnight beef" was delicious. Choice of wine very poor, and once again a decent hotel that does not include half bottles on its list. The public seating areas and toilets were well kept and clean. When the building work is complete the pool and views will be excellent. Construction work didnt impede access or parking.

We got married in Fowey Hall a few years ago and have been back for food a few times when we have been in Cornwall. As our oldest daughter is called Matilda we thought coming for a Matilda afternoon tea while on holiday in Cornwall would be perfect. From previous visits we knew the hotel would be family friendly with a safe outside space with play equipment where our daughter could play while we had afternoon tea and replaced enjoying the view. We were therefore really disappointed on arrival to find the building work had closed the play area and we couldn't let our daughter run around as there were constant building vehicles using the road in front of the hall as well as cars. The view was blocked by screens. Rather than a relaxing tea we were faced with constant noise from the building work. We wouldn't have booked had we known this would be the case in advance. The service was OK however we had to chase several items. Only once did we see any waiting staff after our order arrived. This was a disappointing visit from somewhere we have previously loved.

Average Sunday lunch, starters probably frozen and then straight in fryer with no seasoning and cheap sides. Main ok but very boring roast beef, no green veg. Staff were young and extremely poorly trained, you can’t blame them as management obviously hasn’t put any time in. Table a mess when we arrived and no offer of mustard or anything. They just seemed shy and just dumped plates on table for us to sort out. Expected more.

Pretty poor really. Despite booking and the restaurant being empty the table was laid for a different number of people and the waitress didn’t take steps to alter the settings. There were no knives on the table and we had to ask for these to be added. Fruit flies were present throughout the dinner and a couple were dead in the glasses on the table. Food was pretty average and inferior to other restaurants in the area for the price. Chicken was dry and salad lettuce was unwashed. Chips were soggy. Side of spinach for £5 was miniscule - barely an eggcup full. The wine is grossly overpriced and discouraged us from ordering any more than a single bottle. No warning was given that the restaurant is actually in the middle of a building site at present so the sight of a jcb was all we could see through the windows. Actually upon reflection it was very poor.

Visited the restaurant while staying at the hotel and while the staff were brilliant, the food was very expensive and not good at all. We ordered a £60 cote de boeuf, which was mostly fat, with chips that were undercooked and not seasoned and mushrooms that were again bland and not seasoned. We also ordered the Dover sole, which was quite small and came with almost nothing, for £20 odd quid! Hotel is lovely though.

This venue was booked many weeks ago for my son-in-laws birthday. Having survived a torrid journey from London the first appearance of Fowey Hall is as a Second World War bombsite, but only if approached from the car park side Entering through the foyer, which doubles as a small bar we approached the restaurant reception. Here we were informed that our table was in the foyer as we hadn’t stipulated that we wanted to eat in the restaurant !!!. The arrogant and rather abrupt restaurant manager was initially adamant that, despite our early booking, there was no room in the stipulated dining area. After 5 minutes of embarrassment and anger he invited us to wait in the lounge area while he tried to resolve the problem. Complementary drinks were supplied and he soon informed us that he had managed to cobble together a table within the restaurant. During the evening we noticed that several tables remained empty throughout the serving. A drinks order was taken. Two bottles of not inexpensive wine was ordered. Initially only one turned up which was just placed on the table unopened and without the standard offer of tasting and pouring. The starters were cold, or at least lukewarm on arrival. The belly pork was no more than 1 1/2 inches square and the sea bass ceviche even smaller. The attached photo shows the starter which was initially much better presented but pulled apart by my stepdaughter to see if there was any more hidden underneath the garnish. To charge £12 for each of these is just extortionate and explains why visitors to Cornwall feel ripped off. Main courses were equally frugal with a 3oz piece of trout costing £22. Unfortunately, with exceptionally poor service and overpriced food, I was embarrassed to offer Fowey Hall as an example of what Cornwall can offer to our visitors. Noting our obvious displeasure and hearing our grievances we were given a 10% discount. This was not what we were looking for and would have much preferred a stress free evening. Having said all that, the kids enjoyed their burger and the games room.

The food arrived there was a nice array of sandwiches, cakes and scones . We all tucked in happily and enjoy the view . That was it …..end of service , no member of staff came near us for the rest of our visit . Not even to check ,if we were alright or would like more hot drinks . Very disappointed at the lack customer service . Given the cost, plus 12.5 % service charge …. I will not be returning .

My wife and I had a delightful dinner here. I read recent negative reviews on the way in and my heart sank. We nearly turned around to find a pub. I’m so glad we didn’t. The Valentine menu was excellent. Each course the chef had balanced textures and flavours perfectly. One comment below is that the staff don’t know their wines. Maybe not but there are restaurants in Cornwall where you’d pay an extra £30/head for that service and there is an extensive wine menu to choose from. We were in the igloos and the staff need to be outside in all weathers to serve you, and get in and out of the zip doors. It’s a feat that the food arrived hot at all, which it did. They were attentive and polite. I can imagine in daylight the diggers and works are unsightly. We were there at night and so only saw the twinkling lights across the estuary. The house itself is quite grand with some lovely artwork, and rich history. The igloos are a clever idea. They are heated and there are blankets. Being able to sit ‘outside’ on a windy February is a lovely experience in the U.K.. We were comfortable, but I work advise to bring a shawl or jacket in chilly weather. One reviewer complains the igloos are quiet, with no music. It’s true. But who doesn’t have a playlist on their phone? We put ours on quietly so as not to disturb others and it created a fine ambience. We will definitely come back in the summer when the expansion works have finished. I’m giving 5 stars to counter some of the overly harsh reviews here.

Extremely disappointed! Many errors from the start. The reservation wasn't booked in on my first attempt, I called the day before to check to find that out. Lucky there was space to have it booked in properly. Then there was a few issues with their gift voucher system not accepting my the voucher I bought! Being told to allocate it when I didn't buy it from a third party but directly from their own website. was a bad experience from the drive way in and lasted all the way through to the end. We was not told at any point that there is a vast amount of building going on spoiling every view! Huge diggers, barriers the lot Everywhere. We were in the outside dome with front row seats to this mess, spoiled it as when booking I stated it was a birthday treat for my daughter. Angry is an understatement. Considering being in an outside dome on the terrace you would expect to be told that the view is of a building site. OK, so now the dome itself. Well not pleasant, dirty specs on cutlery was a mood killer followed by very dusty blankets that's draped over the back. Clearly not changed! Huge table decorations you need to move out the way otherwise can't see who your dinning with, candle not lit with candle wax everywhere and wilted flowers, not very nice to look at. Loads of mugs left on table, table is set with cups, They were left clogging up more space. The scones were so over baked that when I attempted to pick one up with my fingers it crumbled all over the table!! When mentioned to staff no replacement offered. Tea pots are useless, while trying to drink my tea I had to spit back out I had a mouth of tea leaves! When we wanted another drink we had to go look for someone, no one came and checked or was around at all. The Americano came out half full too. Lucky we had a sense of humour otherwise prob would have walked out by this point! The bread in the finger sandwich was stale and bland. The mushroom and black garlic tarte has no garlic. You could tap the tarte on the plate it was that solid. Come on its simple cheap food for £27 per person plus a 12.5% service charge. We are a local family 10mins away won't be returning. Much better places out there for less money and far better views
