We had a 3 generation family lunch at Hamilton's. Viranjan and Sherene opened specially for us on a Sunday and prepared a buffet including some dishes that my mum had requested. My favourites were the cashew nut curry, coconut sambol and pineapple curry. The restaurant looked lovely when we came in with little extra Happy Birthday touches. We thought the hire fee for exclusive use together with the per head buffet fee was very reasonable and everyone enjoyed the lunch, expecially the birthday girl who is already asking when we will take her back! The service and ambience was perfect for us and I'm very grateful for the trouble they took to look after us so well.

You're meant to pre-book, but the owner kindly let us in on a cold very rainy night. We were grateful, having just flown from France with a hungry 3 year old in tow. Suffice it to say, we (and the toddler) were well catered for with a superb buffet of Sri Lankan food. Everything was beautifully cooked, with a wide range of delicate and spicy flavours. We were served additionally in a somewhat old-fashioned way by the owner himself, which made us feel rather special. The chef even brought out some plain chicken and chips for the little one, and there was plenty of milk for him when he inadvertently sampled a bit of chilli jam! So all in all, Hamilton's was a lucky find, and deserves success.

On Friday and Saturday nights the Sri Lankan buffet is served. Having visited with family who have travelled around Sri Lanka they have confirmed that this is an authentic experience. The food is excellent, freshly cooked and delicious. This small and intimate restaurant is family run, the service is attentive and you have the opportunity to talk to the chef. I would highly recommend a visit.

I just returned from a trip to London where I stayed at the Hamilton's in Chertsey, Surrey owned and run by a lovely Sri Lankan couple. My room and attached washroom was very clean and well appointed with all amenities. The bed was the most comfortable I had slept in a long time. I wanted an authentic English breakfast and what a great spread it was! Orange juice, toast. Eggs, bacon, grilled mushrooms etc. Dinner was done the Sri Lankan way and I enjoyed it to the utmost. I truly cannot recommend a better place for anyone wanting a peaceful place for a holiday. True, it's bit away from the City but transport is available by train and by bus and there's a very good shopping mall close by where you can shop to your hearts content while Aldies is just a hop step and jump from the hotel. I would definitely be returning to Hamilton's when I make my next visit to London.

On the positive side great and friendly service. The restaurant is small and has a nice atmosphere and very clean and tastefully decorated. We were first served a small hors d'oeuvre and then shown the buffet which had a good selection of curries and side dishes. We did not have wine but had Sri Lankan beer and other drinks which were reasonably priced. The hors d'oeuvre were poor, I would assume straight out of a freezer packet. None of or party had a good thing to say. The curries were OK, one of our party loved the chicken. We all agreed that the star of the show had to be the side dishes, the beans and the salads were outstanding. Would I go back? probably not.

I can’t recommend Hamilton’s highly enough. We had a family birthday celebration, and it was made very special by our wonderful hosts, superb food, and attentive service. As we are mostly vegetarian we had a fully vegetarian buffet prepared especially for us. The various flavours and tastes were excellent, and different from most restaurant fare. Eating at Hamilton’s is like dining with friends. Thanks so much to you both for a super family get together.

We went back for a second meal at this restaurant having eaten whilst in town last year. Sri Lankan food cooked to this standard is simply amazing! Such a nice selection on the weekend buffet and lots of different sweet savory and spicy tastes to experience. Hosts are so friendly welcoming and informative about the food and are very proud of what they have achieved, righly so. We totally loved what we had on our 2nd trip and can't wait to visit again. We have dined at this restaurant several times with our friends and the food is excellent. However, this time we were somewhat disappointed. We had the buffet menu consisting of a small starter selection and then a variety of dishes. When we have been before there was also a delicious soup but no sign of that this time. We opted to have desserts, but beware, these are very overpriced, Over £5 for a very small square of the house speciality, or an ordinary ice cream. As for drinks, two large bottles of beer were charged at a whopping £15.

If this is traditional Sri-Lankan dining then we are all disappointed we didn't discover it sooner! Hamiltons in Chertsey hosted sixteen of us on Friday evening with a warm welcome and a spotlessly clean venue, including the bathrooms! The home cooked food was absolutely delicious and an abundance of choice meant all tastes were catered for from the buffet. Such good value. Each one of us impressed and all hope to return soon. Highly recommended.

We dined at Hamiltons twice. Had the Sri Lankan Buffet served on a Saturday. The dishes were delicious and prepared to a very high standard. Starters were served to the table and a wide range of dishes were available at the Buffet. Every thing tasted as exactly as one would expect at a Sri Lankan meal, with great care taken in preparation of individual curry dishes. The presentation was lovely and the host and hostess were fantastic.

After the obvious "confusion" at the name outside this petite Sri lankan eatery, which is easily explained by the owner who's obviously been asked this more than several times (lol),you enter a restaurant which is nicely decorated and gives you an immediate "cosy" feel. The husband/wife owners are taking a lot of care to detail and are both very welcoming. The buffet offering was nice and seemed freshly cooked. The dishes were all clearly labelled and were flavoursome. Worth a try....

We went for the Friday night buffet ( need to book 24 hours in advance or you can just turn up and order off the a la carte menu if not booked). Had delicious starters of delicate vegetable spring rolls and spicy chicken wings. The range of Sri Lankan curries for the mains were delicious, all had depth of flavour. We tried the aubergine, beef, pork, squid and chicken curries. Wing beans dish was a surprise and fabulous and the saffron rice was so good. There were 10 main dishes to choose from all freshly prepared and the owners took their time to explain the different dishes. It was also a lovely setting. Reasonable wine prices. The starters ( brought to the table) and help yourself buffet mains came to £15 each! What value. We did also share a dessert (extra £5.50) as although full wanted to taste an authentic pud and it was lovely. Prior to going We were slightly confused by the English name 'Hamilton's serving Sri Lankan food and were concerned that it could have been a case of fusion confusion. However nothing of the sort. The Sri Lankan owners explained they had retained the name Hamilton's due to a little thriving inherited hotel business ( rooms upstairs) . A super evening, we will go back.

The service and hospitality standards at this place are extremely good. You are made to feel very welcome in a small but cosy dining room. We likened it to eating in someone's house. The atmosphere therefore is quite charming. We found the food however a little bland. There was plenty of it however but it just lacked something special. The wine list is small but very well priced and the food is not expensive. Certainly worth a visit for something a little different.

The owners made sure we were happy throughout and the lady who cooks the food also came over to check everything was ok. One of the curries was a little hot for me so she got me some yogurt!!!! We also left a present behind after we left, it was a rather heavy book but after speaking to viranjan he kindly said he would post it to us as we live over an hour away. We stayed in the king suite for the evening. The room also comes with virgin media TV which was great as we could catch up on missed television if we needed to! We were given a key for our room and also the outside door so we were free to come back at anytime during the evening. The hotel offered a sri lankan buffet during the evening which we didn't have but looked and smelled delicious. The stay was finished off with a lovely full English breakfast the next morning. On Friday and Saturday evening this restaurant serves a Sri Lankan fusion buffet menu. I've walked past the restaurant a few times and wondered what does fusion buffet mean? This evening I found out- it means an absolutely delicious dinner! The food is Sri Lankan and tastes wonderful; a great selection of curries and side dishes including pickles, yum. All dishes were cooked on the premises, and were all wonderfully different in flavour and texture. They catered well for a vegetarian diner on the next table, and I'm told by the owner that they can modify their dishes to accommodate e.g. a dairy free diet if given a day's notice. We'll definitely be eating there again. I'd recommend this restaurant to all of my friends!

Excellent fusion menu, served as a buffet, with a mixture of delicious starters, a creamy vegetable soup and a huge choice for the main dishes, rice, noodles, vegetable and meat curries... my favourite is the delicious pineapple curry. This is Sirilankan cooking, the flavour is spicy rather than hot. The puddings are also delicious if you can leave room for them! We came here for a team night out, and the staff couldn't have been more accommodating. We went to play golf first, and I managed to completely miss-judge timings, meaning we were an hour later for dinner than initially anticipated. I did call to let the restaurant know and they didn't fuss at all about it.As we were a large group, they arranged for the fusion buffet mid-week. We sat down and ordered drinks which came promptly and was a great selection. Then the starters arrived - vegetarian spring rolls and the best calamari I have ever tasted - the calamari melted in your mouth! There was also a soup as an additional option for the starter. They then opened the buffet for us, which had an array of delicious dishes, each even tastier than the last. There was a mixture of spicy, sweet and mild so something to suit everyone's palate. Everyone enjoyed the food immensely, the atmosphere was fantastic and the service was top class. I couldn't fault this restaurant at all.

I have to say it was a last minute booking to go to Hamilton's but we would definitely go back again. Having lived in Chertsey for a while to be honest it's not somewhere we had considered before but now I think it will be our first choice for a meal out.We were made to feel extremely welcome which was a great start. We were given a starter of spicy chicken and calamari with some dips. Well I hated calamari before but I've been converted! Next was chicken and vegetable soup WOW we both agreed it was the best we had ever tasted. Then was the buffet the flavours of the food were gorgeous. I was worried it would be a bit spicy seeing it was Sri Lankan food but not at all just delicious flavours.I have to mention the service..amazing! Such a lovely family that run it and serve they could not have done more. It honestly felt that we had gone to a dinner party at their house rather than a restaurant. We would recommend a visit but hope it doesn't get too busy because it might ruin the charm!

Funny how serendipity works. We regularly drive past Hamilton's restaurant but have never visited until now, last Friday. Spur of the moment decision to stop off for supper en-route home, after a long busy day. 'Let's try Hamilton's". We were surprised to find out it had changed ownership (six months ago). The new owners; Viranjan & Sherene could not have been more welcoming. Everywhere was impeccably clean, especially the washroom! Felt more like a private luxury hotel washroom! Friday (and Saturday) nights is Sri-Lankan Curry Night Buffet. At first I thought, "I'm not sure I want a curry" but soon changed my mind and I'm really pleased I did. Other times they offer a more European Fusion menu. The food is freshly made, and was absolutely delicious. So many options to choose from; Beef, Chicken and Pork, Seafood dishes. Vegetarian dishes were unusual and absolutely gorgeous. I'm hooked on the Coconut and Carrot 'salad'. Well done Chef! Ridiculously good value at £14.99 per person for help yourself buffet which includes a bottle of beer or a glass of house wine. Hamilton's must be one of Chertsey's "best kept secrets" - we'll be back for sure! (they must be good, as I don't usually bother to write reviews). I reviewed Hamilton' s nearly 6 months ago just after the new owners had taken over. My view is this - all negative reviews on here are over 6 months old so ignore them. 6 months on the service is excellent, I work in the service industry and the owners could teach people a lot about how to deal with customers. The restaurant is now fully open, how it's not packed is a mystery. We stayed at weekend and were fortunate enough to be able to have the Sri Lankan curry , all you can eat for under £15 with a beer or wine. Myself and two colleagues were staying in Chertsey on business and having eaten here last year decided to visit again. We loved it last time and hadn't realised that it had changed ownership. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed and the food was absolutely lovely. I had the goats cheese pannacotta to start (light and fresh) and then the chicken gorgonzola (beautifully moist and tasty - could have eaten it twice over even though it was a generous portion!) and then the cheesecake (quite rich, but good). The wait staff were very attentive and polite and the food was fresh and perfect for the summer season. My colleagues had fish cakes, risotto, chicken gorgonzola and Aubergine roulade (one of us was veggie) and they both said it was amazing and all of our plates went back empty! The owner offered us a glass of wine on the house to say thank you for coming. I am allergic to wine and he quickly offered me an alternative, but I was happy to stick with my very nice glass of Prosecco. All in all a very, very tasty meal in a lovely restaurant - definitely one to visit! It's not even that expensive as we paid about the same prices the night before for a three course meal in a pub!

This little restaurant is tucked away in Chertsey and could easily be passed by - don't!! Whilst not cheap the food is superb in both quality and presentation. For a special occasion this intimate venue is ideal. You won't be disappointed.

We were looking for accommodation and breakfast in the Chertsey area as we'd been invited to a wedding locally. The accommodation was absolutely fabulous, we had the top floor apartment and frankly would like to have moved in permanently. The welcome we were given was warm, genuine and helpful arranging taxi transportation to and fro the venue (brilliant taxi service) and breakfast the following morning was a real delight. We would thoroughly recommend a stay, sadly though we didn't get to experience the evening food but based on our experience can only assume that such attention to detail must extend to their evening menu/service.Well done Hamiltons would unreservedly recommend you.

Myself and my boyfriend had the most delicious meal at Hamilton's last night. The food was beautifully presented and possibly the best food I've had in months. The service was good- everyone was friendly and attentive. Well worth paying the extra money for. Will recommend to friends and will definitely be back.

We had our daughters christening party at Hamilton’s. 40 Adults and 10 under 10's attended. The food was buffet style and for the cost per head was amazing quality, very generous amounts and with a wide selection. The bar was well manned at all times and no one had to wait long to be served. We had a set amount behind the bar and were pleasantly surprised that it lasted, proving a reasonably priced bar as well. The staff were great and very efficient; making sure everyone had drinks for the toast etc. Before the actual day Carter and his staff was very helpful and facilitating in the planning and set up. All in all a great venue which was run fantastically well and a credit to Carter and his Team. We would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a private party venue.

Starters and deserts/cheese very good. Main, poor. Triple cooked chips were french fries and the rib eye had no seasoning. On the whole ok, but could do better.

Very nice atmosphere from the late booking to desert. The menu was small but varied and on the night two items were not available. This by fortune had some of the party having a selection that they may not normally consider but enjoyed!all of the dishes were prepared and presented to a very high standard (the Chief that night was the 18 year old deputy but he served some very good food).A very limited Bar (No Brandy or cognacs) was the only negative .Thanks for the great Dinner. Quote from my Daughter "the best steak and sauce I have every had, even better than yours Dad!"

The, food what there was of it was very tasty, but my point is, if you are going out to eat that is exactly what you would like to do - be able to eat. However our starters were a joke they were so small and at £8 the profit margin must be immense, is the chef or owner having a laugh at everyone's expense? main course was a little larger but still needed a cheese sandwich when we got home. Our bill came to £110 without drinks for 4 people which would have been OK if we hadn't left feeling hungry. No atmosphere in the place either, so all in all will not be returning. I doubt this place will still be around in a year's time.

We got a cut price voucher to go here and went for our wedding anniversary on a mid week night.I always think that if you have gone to the trouble of encouraging people in you might want to encourage them to go back again. On the plus side the restaurant was quiet and conversation was easy but everything else was average,. Service was slow, mussels for a starter were luke warm and rubbery as though they had been around for a while.we ordered one extra glass of wine and desert and cheese board. The cheese selections were wafer thin and the home made biscuits were stale as were the croutons with my wife's salad. The cheese board was £9 and the extras in total £29.

We had the travelzoo voucher for £39 which included a glass of prosecco, a starter and a main each. The food was great, we had the fillet and the rib eye steak. Not sure if we would go back and pay full price as there was not enough atmosphere for our liking and a little too much fussing by the waitress. Food however, was spot on.

Thank you our stay last night in the King Suite was just perfect. Clean, comfortable with lovely bedding, towels & above average complementary toiletries. A much needed fan was already in the room. Although we only stayed one night this suite would be perfect for anyone visiting the area to use as a base. The staff were really friendly and helpful & the breakfast was possibly one of the nicest I have had in a long time, freshly cooked to order & piping hot. I would certainly like to return and have a meal in the restaurant sometime based on the breakfast!

We would normally eat in London on a Saturday evening but purchasedlocal travel zoo voucher and gave it a try. The staff were charming, the ambience pleasant, food well presented. I paid extra to have the Fillet Steak which was very nice rare. Wine list of good quality including Greywacke which is never a bad thing. Reasonable priced for the quality.

Really lovely stay at this boutique hotel/restaurant. Ate both nights a la carte and was very happy. Breakfasts even better, leisurely and free newspaper. Nothing too much trouble. Great coffee. Staff brilliant and very engaging. Carter an excellent host, and very attentive staff in the evening. Will definitely recommend.

So just had an interesting dinner at Hamiltons. We've eaten there before on about 8 different occasions and have never had a problem (it's actually one of our favourite restaurants - until tonight). Everything was perfect until our main course arrived. Two of us had ordered the beef with oxtail ravioli, roasted carrots, parsnip puree, crisps and braising juices . I'd had it before so knew it was amazing and persuaded one of our guests to try it too. Big mistake! We both had a tiny piece of steak and 4 giant chips put in front of us with a jug of peppercorn sauce. When the waiter asked how everything was, I explained that this wasn't what we ordered. He seemed surprised, so I recalled the description in the menu. The reply was something along the lines of 'this is our new menu, I must have given you the old one. Sorry'. By this point it seemed pointless saying anything else (we'd been waiting an hour and a half already). However, when we got our bill, we were less that impressed! We were still charged the full £25 even though we'd been served the wrong food (and food way below the usual standard) and there was no compensation what so ever (not even the offer of a complimentary drink to make up for the mistake). As I've said, we eat here quite a lot so I really don't like writing a negative review however I'm hoping that people will read this and remember, don't order off the a la carte menu during the week as they probably won't have it and will serve you a 'pub quality' meal for the full price.

Slighty slow service sometimes?? So what. Something not available from the menu? It doesn't matter. The food is worth any wait and it doesn't matter what you eat as it's all fantastic. The best restaurant in Surrey, not just Chertsey and I include some very nice Michelin star restaurants in that assessment also!

We've just returned from our night at Hamiltons and I'm feeling compelled to write about our experience. I booked the restaurant for my partners birthday and explained this when booking, yet not one mention of this from the staff, we were however presented with a glass of bubbly which I had presumed was part of the set menu but when given the menu saw no sign of this, thinking I had made a mistake when reading the menu outside and that this was not offered on a Friday night we went ahead and ordered from the standard menu. My starter of quail was poor, difficult to eat and considering the £8 price tag, very much lacking in any actual quail! Main course, seafood cooked well, risotto under seasoned and watery. Portions also very small. Dessert made up a little for the first 2 courses and was actually bigger than my starter and main put together! Service slow and at one point the only waiter for the evening was outside having a cigetette! I just can't ever imagine this happening in similar priced places in town, you most definitely do not get what you pay for here and this place has a long way to go to justify the prices and elaborate menu explanations. To top off what was already a poor experience we looked once again at the menu on our way home and the set menu was in fact available but just not offered to us. Poor atmosphere, service and average food made to look good. Final piece of advice, take your money, get the train into London and go to a decent place for the same price.

Having read so many good reviews we felt very let down. The good news was that the food we had was very good. The bad news was that four out of seven items we ordered were not available. Service was very slow - and it was a quiet evening. The waitress didn't know that things were not available until after we had ordered each time - not what you expect of a restaurant charging these prices. Wine was pricey, and the restaurant lacked both atmosphere and heating - we felt cold. Needs to improve for those prices.

We had booked to go to the restaurant last night. The booking was made 2 weeks in advance and yet we got a phone call 40 mins before we were supposed to be at the restaurant to say the restaurant was closed. The lady who phoned informed us that the restaurant was closed on Wednesdays and the website we booked through should not have let us book for that evening. She was not very apologetic and was surprised that we didn't take her up on the offer of moving the booking to the following night. There was no offer of remuneration or any incentive to go back to the restaurant. After this experience this is a restaurant I will never go to.

We walked in off the street and found this little gem. Good service, good cooking. We had the 2 course menu and a bottle of red and a bottle of water for about £60; which is not cheap but for Chertsey is pretty good. The dishes we had, London cured salmon, venison Carpaccio, Sea Bass and Chicken, showed imagination and an excellent blend of flavours. All very well prepared. Nice sour dough bread too.

Chertsey is trying very hard to to raise its reputation and Hamilton's is a big part of that. Tucked away by the church it has been nicely refurbished and has a very clean modern feel. The food is top draw with some imaginative dishes. Specials offer a good choice and there is a very reasonable set menu. The wine list is small but covers most tastes. There is rooms to rent here decorated on the same theme as the dining room and look very nice.( we did not stay)Well worth a visit.

We were celebrating a landmark birthday and were a party of 17, ranging from 3 to 65. The food was wonderful and the wine and beer were also excellent. And despite not being set up for such a large group, they coped amazingly well. We were a little worried about the few couples in the restaurant but they had apparently been warned in advance that there was a big party that night, which I thought was a lovely touch.

I can't understand why this restaurant isn't fully booked every night. The smoked haddock risotto was perfectly cooked topped with a soft boiled quails egg, the belly pork melt in the mouth was accompanied by sweet scallops. I really can't rate this food highly enough! Hamilton's is one of our favourite restaurants, so we're very lucky it's in our own village. The quality of the food is excellent, but what I like is that Carter the chef is an artist. When your meal comes, it's so beautifully presented that you don't know whether to eat it or take a photo of it. It's a small menu but changes quite often with the seasons. My favourite is scallops, and Carter knows that, so he always keeps them somewhere on the menu. To give you an idea of the quality of service, last Christmas we took our whole family there for Christmas dinner. (It cost an arm an a leg but was so worth it!) Our son-in-law and granddaughters are Muslim and we were a little worried whether the menu would be suitable for them. Oz, the charming waiter, who is also Muslim, went through the entire 5-course menu with Carter before assuring us it would be ok.

We are regular visitors to Hamiltons and always have a wonderful meal, a true treat!Today we took our young children for a family lunch and enjoyed every mouthful once again, just in daylight for a change!Carter has a superb seasonal menu often with an extra choice of catch of the day and everything cooked to perfection. Melt in the mouth beef, a truly 'interesting and unusual' cheeseboard as the menu states and chocolate lovers are always looked after on the pudding menu! The wine list starts at a very reasonable price for a quality house wine and the staff are attentive, friendly and really add to the dining experience. An amazing restaurant and well worth a visit.Thank you, Carter!
