We visited The Brasserie last night - it was that bad we had to laugh! We were shown to our table - and the waitress said she would give us a few moments to choose a wine from the list.....20 minutes later and still no service so I asked another waitress for a bottle of Chenin Blanc....this didn’t arrive however the first waitress did - and asked us what wine we would like ..... after three choices not being available we just asked for a bottle of dry white wine! (Which finally arrived around half an hour after arriving) Food orders taken - I ordered the Bloody Mary prawns - which was simply a bland prawn cocktail with paprika sprinkled on top - not a sniff of a Bloody Mary 😉. No one asked if we would like to order more drinks - so I ended up going to the bar myself to order drinks - at which point I realised the staff were simply messing around chatting and running down the stairs at the back of the restaurant. The mains finally arrived - I chose the catch of the day which came with the blandest packet hollandaise sauce I’ve ever tasted. As the table service was so dire we ended up going to pay at the till - and noticed several others complaining to staff. Such a shame as is a lovely restaurant - just needs attentive trained staff and a better standard of food.

Arrived for a fund raising dinner on Friday evening. The rest of the hotel was packed out with youngsters on their "prom'" after finishing their A' levels. Despite this, once we were all in our suite we were not disturbed by them and service and the kitchen seem to cope without any problem. It was a three course pre-ordered set meal. I started with soup, which was surprisingly good. Followed by pork. A little too well done for my taste, but for a mass cater you have to be careful, with good veg and crisp crackling. A decent pavlova to finish. Drinks were fairly expensive, but not outrageous. Seems a pretty safe bet if you are organising a large function south of Manchester.

This is a lovely place for a meal either as a couple or a family. There was a larger table setting for a big group of people. I came with my niece who is a wheelchair, and there were quite adequate provision for wheelchairs, ramps etc. We had afternoon tea, the waiter was Lewis, and he was very polite and courteous, and we were served promptly, and Lewis was very helpful throughout our visit.

Nice welcome - nice interior décor - pretty decent menu. I had butternut squash soup to start - very tasty. For main course I had pasta and meatballs - again, very tasty. The annoying thing was the service which took ages - ages to be asked to order - ages for starter to arrive - ages for plates to be cleared - ages for main course to arrive. As a result, despite arriving at 7pm I missed the first 20 minutes of the England versus Iceland match (8pm kick off) which was not a bad thing as it turned out! During the many waits I witnessed 2 other people making complaints - one about the food quality (fish) and the other about the poor service - they were clearly not a s tolerant as me! Both complainants were given free drinks and profuse apologies. Sort out the service and this would be a decent place to eat.

The quality of food was excellent. A limited but varied menu with some interesting choices. A good range of wines were on offer but quite pricey, even for a hotel. We could not fault the service throughout the meal but sadly, when I asked for the bill, it included the meal which had already been paid for. A tad more attention to detail would have made all the difference. Also a small but significant point. We had some wine left which we decided to finish off either in the bar or in our room. It was not easy carrying an ice bucket and two glasses along with our personal belongings. Had one of the waiters offered to carry the ice bucket and wine for us, it would have been excellent service. I'm not being pedantic but we both got the feeling that once we had paid for the wine and the meal was over, the restaurant staff were no longer interested in us.I appreciate this is a bistro and not a typical hotel restaurant but having had excellent food and service, assisting us at the end would have made all the difference.

I have stayed at this hotel a number of times and the hotel is fine. I generally eat in the hotel restaurant and it's usually been ok but nothing special. I find the menu a little limited and the staff a little too stiff. Lighten up. Make the place feel a bit more fun. This is not the Ritz. Most of the guests are staying here to to get an early start at the airport.Tonight it was a big failure. I ordered something simple, a burger with a side of onion rings then I sat and watched as people around me ordered and then were served. I sat and waited politely. Waiters passed by and no one seemed to notice that my table was bare. Not wanting to cause a fuss I stayed quiet. "It'll be here soon" I thought. After 45 minutes the people on the adjacent tables had not only been served but had eaten and were looking at the dessert menu so I decided I needed to ask. I flagged down a waiter who apologised and went to the kitchen. I;m not sure what he came back with but it wasn't a burger. He apologised and went away again. This time he returned with my burger, placed it down and made to leave. I had to stop him and ask for my side order! When he brought the onion rings things were looking good so I tucked in. The burger was smothered in cheese, the chips golden and the slaw was, well, slaw. I had asked them to leave out the bread bun and they had got that right. Now, I tend to eat by leave the best to last so I stared on the chips, onion rings and slaw, savouring the idea of the cheese topped burger. Soon I decided it was burger time. I sliced off a chunk and chewed. Something wasn't right. I flipped the burger over to display the fact that the bottom was completely burnt. I removed cheese from the top to discover that side was too.Totally ruined my evening. I was offered alternatives but by now it was after 9:00pm and I just wasn't happy. Not sure I'll be back.

My partner and I elected to take afternoon tea at the Hallmark Brasserie yesterday. A little constructive criticism for the staff.. We were presented with a tea stand that contained four very lean finger sandwiches, that were frankly pathetic, three little cakes and a warm scone that were only just ok. A pot of tea followed. Our observations lie in the detail I'm afraid. On no occasion did anyone follow up to offer more tea or a polite, "how is everything" ? It was merely dumped upon us and then the waitor ran. We left shortly afterwards, still hungry, thirsty and disappointed. I feel should one have paid a pittance for this I would still have been short changed, however for £30 it is a blatant rip off! Afternoon tea is supposed to be an indulgence and carries a price way in excess of its worth. Come on folks, the devil is in the detail! You are in a service industry. Your colleagues have completely overlooked the point of this unique service. It should be, and must be much much better.

The food itself was tasty and well presented with reasonable portions. My wife's fish was a little over cooked, but not to the point where it was a problem. I think they've tried to get the balance right by not offering too many different dishes allowing them to present the ones they do have to a reasonable standard. It's not top notch quality, but it's absolutely fine.

The staff in the restaurant was slow and never visible. Had to wait ages to get seated, we just sat down ourselves after 10 minutes apart the sign saying you should wait. After finally being recognized we were handed the menu which were stained allvover the place with tomato sauce and other unidentifiable stuff. The wine glasses on the table showed the same quality of effort put into a clean environment. While receiving the menus we weren't asked if we wanted to have drinks which is a no-go in todays business. We had to wait another ten minutes to ask for our drinks. The food was ok but any additional wishes like more sauce seemed an impossible request and again took another ten minutes (maybe the kitchen was on the other side of the town?) All in all it was no service equal to the prixe category, would not recommend.

When we were there, there were two double toasters, only one side of each actually worked. The bread looked and tasted cheap, like the value brand of the cheapest supermarket. I had two Danish pastries, one was slightly overdone, but that was ok. The other one was so undercooked I couldn't eat it. My companion had a cooked breakfast which was very disappointing. We were in a good mood anyway (as we were flying the next day), we had worked up a nice appetite in the excellent gym facilities and so were really looking forward to our evening meal. There wasn't a great deal of choice on the menu but sometimes less is more and the selections that we made, soup and garlic mushrooms to start and then fish and chips and chicken and bacon bake were really tasty. Tried the burgers for the first time, sunset burger and cheesy pickle burger , both seemed very similar and neither had pickle which they brought separately when asked.
