I've live in Stockport and go out in town for drinks, I didn't even know this kind of bar was in Stockport. I've only found out now about this bar and it's shutting. Pity I would have loved to book the hole bar for a party.

I looked at the internet and this place looked quirky, different and seemed to fit the bill! I go out every other month with my old school pals have a few beers on a Saturday afternoon and we finish off with a meal. So after a few beers in Stockport Market Place we walked down the road to this restaurant, and having booked, we were sat down at a table. We then waited half an hour, so I went to the bar and asked if they served at the table, they confirmed that they did so I asked for 3 Beers and if they could serve a selection of Tapas for 3 hungry men,we were looking forward to a feast. So the first course came consisting of bread, 0lives and balsamic vinegar. My assumption was that this was normal and the start of a great experience, then half an hour later we were given a rasher of bacon/pork. Another half hour went by and after asking at the bar again we were served soft cheese and tomato. Then for the grand fanali- wait for it....another half hour went by and we were given salmon and small potatoes with fried cale. To be fair we were grateful for any food at this point, and it was more than edible! We expected more meat, spice, and home cooking, so after another half an hour I enquired what was next and was told that was it..... So I asked for another course and was told that the restaurant had run out of food , on a Saturday tea time and located next to ASDA .. on appeal they rustled up some scrambled egg, black pudding and potatoe.. It was tasty, not what we had expected, and its no wonder you don't see many Vikings these days. They gave us a complimentary beer each for having to wait so long!. When after another half a hour passed, I had to chase the bill and the poor waitress, bar attendant, cashier and general dogsbody hand wrote the bill, on a scrap of paper, which was a very reasonable £94. I promptly gave my card, and was told that the cash machine had broken down and could I possibly hike up the hill after the meal call at a cash point and return with real money. It was pouring down, really windy so I declined! and after waiting for another half an hour, I agreed with the manager that I would pay the next day, which I did. There were no horns or mead available as the horns had been stolen, not good! This place is not unpleasant and has a good atmosphere, however it could be great.. come on sort it out! This place has been open since last summer, I really hope that its trading next summer.

The staff were welcoming and friendly on arrival and the drinks unique and priced well. We were incredibly surprised by the standard of food and how low the prices were (they could and should charge more). They doubled the side order for free (without asking) so there was enough to share between me and my partner. Great atmosphere and a brilliant place. Overall a great experience and we will definitely be back!!

I want to start this review by saying what a great time we all had on Saturday. The staff were lovely, the food was great and the mead was excellent! There were a few major issues with organisation. Partly this was down the fact that I think 2 members of staff had called in sick, which I understand is a huge issue. Hopefully this is a problem they can mitigate better in the future with being able to call in someone else to cover. Going back to the start though, my wife booked the central table at the restaurant for 12 people for a joint 30th for 6pm via Facebook. We then went in on a Saturday to pay the deposit for the table. The bar maid (the only member of staff there) didn't have any record of the booking but took our deposit and gave us a receipt for the amount. On the night, we turned up a little early and though there were people sitting at the table, there were signs saying it was reserved from 6. When 6 rolled around we had to ask the people to move on our own as the bar man didn't seem interested in asking and the chef (who I assume is the owner?) was extremely busy! We then settled on the whole long table with our mead and various ciders and other drinks. After a while, however, we were told that actually we only had half the table and the other half had been booked by another group. The table was about the size of two picnic tables with benches. There was no way 12 of us would squeeze on to one half of the table - bad planning! In future, I'd suggest maybe just booking one party for the central table unless they're 6 people or less! The group that arrived said they were initially meant to be 9 people but there were about 6 of them. When they realised we had a celebratory party they said they were just in for drinks and food and would find someone else so we could have the space which was very nice of them.I hope they didn't have to pay a deposit! The food was slow in coming and we were well in to our cups before any arrived but I understand how hard the chef was working to get things out! When it did arrive, it was gorgeous food and he was really attentive to our needs, especially given we had vegan and vegetarian guests who can be hard to cater for. All in all it was an extremely fun if chaotic night and I want to thank you again for your hard work. I just think the organisational aspect could use a lot of work!

I arranged a special birthday surprise here for 3rd Nov for my husband and 2 sons.......one of which travelled a fair distance with his wife and baby. They were really looking forward to this birthday treat. My booking was confirmed in writing on 23rd October (And shown to staff member on arrival). They arrived to a locked door, the staff member spoke to them through the locked door saying they had no booking and anyway they had a party booking for 20 children. Disgusted that a) they obviously decided the children's party booking was more financially rewarding b) they didn't have the courtesy to cancel or change the booking c) they ruined a planned birthday surprise for a Viking fanatic. I know my son has also left a review but we feel very strongly at the owners priorities and total disregard for his customers feelings. Would not recommend for this reason. Would have left zero stars if possible. The trio ended up eating in the produce hall which they rated very highly.

We booked a table at the restaurant for 2pm yesterday, had confirmation. The restaurant also questioned dietary requirements for the booking. We arrived at just before 2pm for the staff member to advise they were closed, they didn't have our booking and we wouldn't want to come in as they were having a bunch of kids in to make swords and shields Terrible service, we had booked this for my father's birthday and myself and my brother travelled to be there as my dad is obsessed with Viking culture. This was a huge disappointment and we would never recommend the place or try to attend again. Wish I could rate lower than 1 star

The communication before the night was great, turned up 7pm Friday... when I walked in wasn't sure I'll be honest. However, What a great night we all had. Great atmosphere . Staff amazing, limited menu I thought , until I tasted the 5 fabulous choices . Recommend definitely . Made all the better with the free mead and toilet rolls from the bakers 😝 Thank you for a fab night and all your attention . Xx

What a gorgeous little bar in centre of Stockport, we visited midweek so it was quiet. The bar itself is small and they don't serve wine but had various spirits and I had draft Crem Brulee Stout which tasted like treacle and was gorgeous. Was even given a taster before I bought it. Wooden seating with throws and rugs creating a wonderful ambience. They also served tapas but we just went for a drink but I'm told the tapas is lovely.

My girlfriend and I visited on a Tuesday evening and absolutely loved it. The decor and atmosphere are great and the prices are reasonable. Loved the drinking horns, will have to get some. All the staff were really helpful and friendly, especially the girl behind the bar. We will definitely be returning!

We stumbled into Vinabod a little unsure of what to expect — after all, it’s not common to find a Viking-themed tapas bar and restaurant. We had set out on the search for a restaurant and encountered this somewhat discrete curiosity late on a Sunday afternoon where many pubs had already closed their kitchens. One of our party entered to enquire whether the kitchen was still open and walked out with high praises of the food from customers — all of whom were extremely friendly. On entering, we were merrily greeted by staff and other customers who struck up conversation. The owners have really got into the Viking theme, which was a pleasure to see. Background music was also Viking-esque but quiet enough for us to still hold a conversation. At the time, there appeared to only be Spanish omelette on the menu, so we ordered both a vegetarian and non-vegetarian variation of the dish (vegetarian version in photo), with staff happy to go out of their way to make the former despite advertising only the latter. The food was delicious — as was the extra side of chilli sauce (we were warned it was spicy and it most definitely was!). The drink selection was also good and everyone was happy by the end of the day! All in all, we had a thoroughly good time and an enjoyable meal. Staff and customers alike were very friendly and we would hugely recommend that everyone gives it a try. Thanks for making our day out to Stockport a memorable one — we will almost certainly revisit in the future!

I can't review the drink or the food, as I haven't been able to get in when I've visited. I wanted to go on Sunday 8th September, when the Stockport Food Festival was on, but a friend who had passed by at 4pm the previous Sunday had told me they were closed. My partner sent a facebook message asking for opening times, and was told "they're on the facebook page", which they are not. So that was unhelpful. She explained this and asked again in a further message, but so far that has been ignored. I sent a facebook message a few days ago, asking for opening times - "on the facebook page" I was told. No opening times on facebook, so asked again. Finally got a reply saying "12 till 10 Sundays". So when I got there on Sunday at 12:45, the place was closed. No reply to any other facebook messages. After going around Stockport, they were open at 3.30ish, so I went inside to ask what was going on. The barman seemed unbothered, and first told me they don't open unless they think it's worth it, by being busy enough. I said I'd been told they opened at 12 and would have had 6 customers if they'd actually been open, and he said the opening times are still being worked out. I said they should get right on that, and put them on the FB page so people can see, and he said something about it being illegal to open at 12 because things aren't ready. This all came with a rude and lazy attitude, which left me not wanting to bother ever coming back. Another staff member then showed up with much less attitude, apologising, and saying opening late was not a regular thing, and there was a pet-related emergency that was causing them to be open late. He was a lot nicer to talk to than the barman. However, I got the distinct feeling that this was all a whitewash over what the previous guy had told me; I personally have the feeling that they open when they can be bothered to get going, and don't care if that's disappointing for anyone, or leaves potential customers going elsewhere. There was no reply to my FB message at 12.45 when they were closed, but the emergency had not stopped them posting Odinism memes to their FB page. So, I would say avoid unless you're passing and they're open, otherwise you may well have a wasted trip. And don't try contacting them on FB, if you actually get a response and are not ignored, it doesn't feel like you can't trust what they're saying anyway. A small business like this would do well to be frank about their opening hours, and careful with how many potential customers they put off with their attitude. 6 lost customers, for drinks and food, in one afternoon is going to see the business fail if it's the norm. I certainly won't be giving them another chance after the treatment I got when speaking to the staff, and that could have been different with some customer care, some replies to simple enquiries, and much less attitude. First impressions matter.

Had a couple of drinks with friends. The rhubarb gin is beautiful. We sat around the large table in the centre, so chatted to people all around us, great for meeting new people. Looking forward to trying some food next time.
