Arrived 5 minutes before a booking to a tightly rammed dining room. Not only was there barely enough room to get in, the volume was ridiculous. Greeted by a chap who told us us it'd be 10-15 minutes. The whole feeling of the place was off, so said we'd leave it. The chap barely even made eye contact. We immediately got a cancellation email. Dodged a bullet.

I was so excited to try this place as it is advertised as 'authentic' Mexican which is hard to find in the UK. However the food left me very disappointed. Not only were the tacos bland and oily the portions were extremely small based on the prices. The drinks were also tiny and overpriced as well. If you are looking for somewhere to run up a bill with mediocre food then this is your place if not taco bell is more flavorable.

I was excited to try this place after hearing good things. Unfortunately I left a little disappointed. As other reviews mentioned, it is a small place and they could do with making sure all the tables are clean and not sticky when you sit down. We ordered a couple of starters which came out fairly quickly and were nice. The corn ribs were the highlight of the meal. If you go here hungry or in a rush do not get the tacos! Despite it being a Sunday lunch time and not even full it took nearly 45 minutes for two tacos to come out. Once they did arrive they weren’t even that hot. The crab taco was oily and the fish did not taste fresh. The sweet potato taco was a good veggie option but not worth the wait. Overall, I hoped for more as I love Mexican food. The starters were nice but the service was very slow. I won’t be rushing back.

We had a reservation at 9:30 and we showed up on time. They told us it would take a second to get to our table and we had to sit outside in the cold for at least 20 minutes. A guy came out and was so pushy offering chips and salsa and it seemed like it would be on the house after we were putting up with their disorganization, but we were charged for that and no drinks or anything comped. Once we sat down they didn’t give us a moment to breathe before making us order because the kitchen was closing which is not our fault because we should have been sat at a much earlier time and they should accommodate or cancel our booking instead of the half assed uncomfy experience we had. If they messed up the booking they should have communicated that so we could have gone somewhere else and enjoyed our night instead of being rushed to eat in and out of the door under 40 minutes with the most pushy waiter who stressed all of us out and then we had to pay for everything. In my experience usually restaurants are a little more accommodating so you should probably figure that out. Not loving how much I had to pay after all of that.

We had a booking at for 8 people 9:30 pm, arrived on time and had to wait 20 minutes before we were seated. We were rushed to order food and constantly being told the kitchen was about to shut, once we ordered - all the food (starters & mains) arrived within 5 minutes, the was no room on the table and they were rushing us to eat so they could close the restaurant. The food was delicious. However we were only sat there for 35 minutes altogether as the staff were impatiently waiting for us to leave!! We were not compensated for anything, why take late bookings if you can’t accomodate them?

We'd heard very good things about Halisco and couldn't wait to try it. Chose a Sunday early afternoon and were informed they would need the table back in a little over an hour, which was fine. Tacos are usually quick to eat so figured 45 mins was plenty time. Put in our order with chips and guac and padrón peppers to start then three tacos for main. The starters were quick to arrive and the best dishes we had to eat. Then we waited almost an hour for the tacos, even though other tables who arrived after us received their food. Our server didn't even acknowledge us during this long delay and the three servers were hardly rushed off their feet, so an update would have been good. Eventually got our food, which was ok. Cod tacos good, crab tacos ok, sweet potato tacos a bit too tangy.

We went to Halisco as a group of six. We sat down around 9:30, and the place was full with lively chatter, music, and an overall great vibe. We were served by a top bloke originally from Northern Ireland. He made us feel welcome and had some good banter with the group. We were celebrating a few special occasions, and he made it memorable by helping us settle in and keeping the food and drinks flowing! The food was great. We each had a few plates and were stuffed by the end of the meal. The corn ribs were tasty, the birria tacos were rich and delicious, and the cod tacos were crispy with creamy avocado. The salsa for dipping was fantastic. We had a full round of margaritas all different types but the spicy ones were especially fun. An acquired taste, but everyone had a good laugh trying them. I’d highly recommend Halisco for a great night out.

This restaurant in Brighton is an absolute hidden gem! The food was nothing short of excellent, bursting with authentic flavors that transported me straight to the cuisine’s roots. Each dish was beautifully presented, especially considering the reasonable prices, and it felt like you were getting incredible value for money. The drinks were equally fantastic, pairing perfectly with the food. Service was top-notch, with friendly and attentive staff making sure every detail was covered. Went for lunch on a weekday. Was kind of quiet, us two and a group of around 8 people. We shared a pulled pork quesadillas and had the crab and pulled beef with ox tail tacos. The sauces on the crab tacos overpowered the crab which was unfortunate. The beef tacos were close to perfect, slightly too much sauce. Overall the flavours were excellent.

The food was the best bit about this place, and unfortunately that was just too oily. I’ve got to say it’s all tasty, it just needs less oil. The Elote corn was full of flavour, but dripping in oil. We had the cod tacos, crab tacos and Queso Birria to follow, I know the seafood ones are battered, but the batter is HEAVY, I expected the queso birria to be fairly oily, but by that point the oil from the other dishes and the broth that came with the birria was all getting a bit much. Classic marg was good 👍🏻 The service was a bit clunky. Took a while to get menus, & order. Didn’t get asked if we’d like another drink when clearing away the first round of drinks (while we still had food 🤷🏻♂️) The atmosphere is the worst bit unfortunately. It’s a really noisy room, nothing in there to soften the acoustics, despite there only being about 6 other diners inside at the time, the music, and the noise from the bar (glass & cutlery clinking, cocktails being made etc) made it really difficult to hear the waiter let alone have a conversation.

Overpriced food, disappointingly small portions, frustratingly weak drinks, all at a premium price that will leave you disappointed. The taste of the food is good enough...but the experience as a whole falls well short of expectations—justification enough to save your money. ▬▬▬ BREAKDOWN ▬▬▬ ⭐⭐⭐⭐➖ | FOOD ⭐⭐➖➖➖ | DRINKS ⭐⭐⭐➖➖ | ATMOSPHERE ⭐⭐⭐⭐➖ | SERVICE ⭐➖➖➖➖ | PRICE ► FOOD: The taste of the food isn’t, by any means, bad—it’s clear that someone behind the scenes knows what they’re doing—but the quantity doesn’t match the price… Two small tacos will run you no less than £10—each of which can be easily finished in 2-3 bites. And the “Small Plates” live up their name: often delivering more decoration than substance. (The stuffed squid, in particular, is a *tiny* portion at £11 a plate.) ► DRINKS: Disappointing and best avoided. A basic margarita will run you (at minimum) £10, and you’ll need AT LEAST two to begin to feel them. The variety and flavors are not necessarily bad, but the value is abysmal. ► ATMOSPHERE: The restaurant is in a small space that can get crowded during dinner hours. During the summer, the outdoor tables provide a little more room to move your arms, but the vibe is usually pretty positive regardless of how crowded it gets. ► SERVICE: Not bad. The staff are friendly, though it can be a little slow to get to you if there’s a big party or a bunch of tables to serve. On one occasion, a friend did not get their starter until the rest of the table were receiving their mains, so it’s worth being clear and direct when ordering. ► PRICE: The breaking point, and the reason I will not go out of my way to return. With a starter, a main, and two drinks, you’re not leaving at any less than a £40 bill, which can buy you SO MUCH more at many of the other top-tier restaurants around Brighton. ▬▬▬ FINAL THOUGHTS ▬▬▬ I would LOVE to love Halisco; it’s one of the few Mexican restaurants in the area and the food isn’t actually bad... However, at its current pricing and quality, there are numerous other options around town where you’ll get *far* better value for your money. At the prices and the portions it offers, Halisco positions itself as worthy of a fancy dress night out…but nothing about it is so memorable to justify the bill at the end of the night. And even if Mexican is hard to find, there is (ultimately) both better Mexican and better margaritas elsewhere in town.

Had a lovely Monday night dinner here and would definitely recommend. Drinks and small plates in particular were the highlight. The cheese and okra croquettes were one of the best dishes I’ve had in my life! For drinks we had a paloma and the tropical spicy mezcalita and they were both gorgeous. The tacos were also delicious, as expected. I had the cod tacos and my boyfriend had the pork belly (as they were out of the birria tacos) and we would both definitely recommend them. We weren’t a fan of the tortillas themselves as they were dry, ripped pretty easily, and had a floury taste- but the flavour and of the filling compensated for this. The sauces in the tacos were particularly delicious! There are some vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free options clearly labelled It was pretty busy for a Monday so I can imagine it is rammed later in the week- I’d recommend booking ahead. Alongside the food, the service was also a highlight. Both staff members were lovely, particularly the waitress!

This was such a disappointment visit. I had this booked for two months as it’s hard to get a booking. The booking finally gets around and we walk in excited and immediately the server said to us ‘we need the table back at 7pm’ and sat us down. We got there at 6pm. We saw the server go straight to a table filled with girls and stayed there for 10 minutes and we watched him give them a free shot. We had no menu by this point. We got the menu and tried to flag down the server by 6:20pm. Our food came out 6:40pm/6:45pm and we rushed to eat it all as we knew we had 20 minutes. The food was alright. Wasn’t worth the wait and the service was so poor. The food was expensive for what it was. We paid overall £106 with a tip (as we always do) but felt so disappointed walking away from it. Such a shame. It’s right next door to Bincho and was sad we wasn’t in there instead.

The service and cocktails were brilliant. Regarding the food, the chefs are undeniably talented, and the dishes tasted superb. However, the value and portion sizes were disappointing. Many of their small plates are extremely small, particularly the squid, croquettes, and mutton lettuce tacos. The squid dish, priced at £11, was incredibly disappointing for what we paid. In total, we paid £110 for just a few small plates and some tacos. In my opinion, this is a lovely place to eat if value for money and portion size are not a concern for you.

Lovely Mexican spot in Brighton with very delicious tacos. Great choice of margaritas too. However, be aware the portion sizes. Between the three of us we ordered a few things and the stuffed squid was one of them. At a price of 10£ you would expect an acceptable portion considering it was under the small plates option. Disappointing. We had booked a table for my partners birthday dinner and had travelled in from London. Halfway through the meal we were told that a large group had shown up and asked if they could just "pop us on the counter upstairs" to finish our food/drinks so they could accommodate this group. We refused as we were enjoying the table and atmosphere downstairs (and were already told we had the table for a certain amount of time in the booking), but unfortunately felt very unwelcome and awkward after this interaction. One of the staff member was also quite hasty cleaning some tables and unluckily dropped a candle, which left wax stains on my partners fabric shoes. Safe to say it wasn't a great birthday experience. It's disappointing they aren't more organized as the food (apart from the tiny portion of guac) was good. Sad to say we won't be coming back.

I am particularly picky with Mexican food as the UK is overall tragic with Mexican cuisine. Although this restaurant isn’t the most “authentically” Mexican, it’s an absolute win! I would run back in a heartbeat because the food was just good food 🙌🏾 I’d give it a 9/10 - started lovely, well seasoned gauc, crispy chips and delicious cod croquettes. Buttery delicious corn ribs (which rarely get done properly in most restaurants) there was almost too much butter (said nobody ever) but I enjoyed it. ☺️ broccoli was well cooked and seasoned, tasted lovely. The oxtail birria taco was DELICIOUS, soft shell crab taco was the only slight let down, too much sauce drowning the crab. I think there’s potential, I just wish it was less salsa and the tacos was stripped back to a more baja like taco (fish, crunch and zesty crema) - not to drown the crab. Otherwise, still impressive. I was a happy unexpected diner, definitely recommend. Service was lovely too, keep up the good work! Even their drinks were delicious 😍 walk don’t run there

Had a fantastic lunch at this casual, friendly taqueria. From the friendly service from guys who obviously enjoy working there, to the *impeccable* food and drinks everything was amazing. From the first sip of a Virgin margarita to the last bite of my beef birria taco, this was a flavour explosion with every bite. The house hot sauce was fruity, sweet and super hot on the finish. Prawn aguachile was creamy fresh and bright. Comforting jalapeño hash browns filled us up before a pair of fish tacos and beef birria tacos - the latter being the best taco I’ve had, and after quite a few spins around this sun, that’s a high number and high praise indeed. This place made me glad I’d found it, nice to chat to the front of house team, and sampled some amazing food, I can’t rave about this place enough, you’ve gotta go!

We had a reservation but they said we might have to sit at the window as they didn’t expect big groups to come in, luckily they eventually found a table for us. The starters were great but the tacos were lacking as the taco itself was hard and chewy

Great food. Very small restaurant so gives an intimate dining experience. Definitely would recommend!

Everything we ate was tasty - no question about that. But I would say that everything cost about a third more than it should have given the small portion sizes. The drinks were also really overpriced. We tried all the different types of Margaritas etc and they all tasted just like warm fruit syrup and arrived in a small tumbler. I can’t believe all the comments on here say it’s the place to go for Margaritas! Also try and avoid sitting by the door as it’s being opened and closed constantly and people are always walking into the back of you. All in all it felt a bit like it has become bit of a money grab - not worth the hype any more.

Great place! Such a lovely atmosphere; really buzzing. Staff were so friendly and helpful, especially when it came to choosing one of their delicious cocktails! Food was delicious - highly recommend the mushroom tacos! Would recommend booking, as not many tables, but they managed to squeeze us in.

My boyfriend and I went here for a late lunch and seemed lucky to get a table as the place filled out pretty quickly. The staff were friendly, but the service was quite slow. We ordered a few light bites, and they came out one at a time with large breaks in between when we'd ideally have liked to have eaten them together. The tacos are very small for the price. On a whole, everything was pretty pricey, considering we weren't even full by the end and spent £70 (including 2 beers and a margarita). The food, however, tasted phenomenal. The chorizo stuffed squid was a personal favourite of mine.

Been to halisco for various occasions over the last few years and it’s always superb. Absolutely packed so the atmosphere is great but the service doesn’t suffer at all, still attentive throughout despite the tight space. The food is amazing too, the corn ribs, corn chips and guac, and hash browns were our favourites. Ironically I would say the tacos were the thing that blew us away the least (still good but just not our faves). Will keep coming back long into the future!

Really delicious menu, we’re looking forward to going back. Glad we booked as it’s a small venue and was very popular so make sure you do the same. We tried quite a lot and shared and everything was tasty and fresh. Would’ve been great if they had tuna tostadas or ceviche for a freshness element on the menu but otherwise can’t fault it. Nice service too.

Food was so good - best Mexican I’ve ever had, better than any in London! The servers were all super lovely and recommended us good drinks (especially ones that didn’t taste too much of tequila)! Would highly recommend the corn ribs, the mushroom taco and the cod taco although all of it was lovely! Thanks for such a good evening - will be looking forward to coming back to Brighton to come again!

Best Mexican food I’ve had in who knows how long! Would recommend the corn ribs (sensational!), the oyster mushroom tacos and the cod tacos. The waiters were lovely too and recommended us some great margaritas based on our personal tastes.

Easily the best Mexican food I’ve had in the UK. Do not miss this if you’re in Brighton! Everything is homemade, even the chips. The cod taco was probably the best fish taco I’ve had. The tenderstem broccoli, guacamole, etc were all amazing as well. Service was excellent too. Highly recommend!

Myself and my boyfriend were in Brighton for the night and searched on TikTok where to eat. Halisco caught our eye and we are glad it did. Even with the place being quite small and intimate everyone was so friendly and you still felt like you had privacy on your table. The food was absolutely incredible and the staff were extremely friendly. I would visit Brighton again just to come back here. Even on a Sunday night this place was busy. I don’t usually leave reviews but I had to for this place.

Delicious! We had the corn ribs, which were covered in butter and super yum, the croquettes (highly recommend if you love melted cheese), and three flavours of tacos: pork belly, cod, and sweet potato. The sweet potato was actually our favourite! So flavoursome. All of them were great, though. Service was quick and friendly, too. The pineapple hot sauce that came with our meal was so good I almost asked if I could buy a bottle!! Only thing I would suggest would be an extra tortilla under each taco (as is often done in Mexico!) as a lot of the filling fell out when eating and could have made another one :)

Didn’t have our table ready for us when we arrived on time and had clearly overbooked as there had to be some shuffling around to accommodate us. Drinks took an age to arrive as they were ‘lost in transition’ according to one of the waiters. The small plates were very tasty, however half way through enjoying them we were told they had ‘cocked up’ some bookings and said that we had to move tables. This obviously wasn’t ideal as we were in the middle of eating but were at least allowed to finish our starters before being ushered to another table. We were begrudgingly given some free shots but only after asking due to the inconvenience. The food is great here but overall it’s so chaotic and just not a great vibe. It feels like they want to cram as many people in and money grab as much as possible. If a group arrives - let’s find somewhere to sit them with no regard to the how this may impact the customers already present. It’s a shame as the margaritas and food are great, the place just needs a bit more organisation, especially on a busy Saturday night!

Fantastic food and drink! We had heard/seen so many good things about this place so we paid a visit for date night. The food menu is super interesting with something for everyone. The highlights for me were the padron peppers, the corn ribs and the pork tacos, not to mention the melon margarita… yum. But honestly all the food was so good. I enjoyed the environment a lot too, very homey vibe and buzzing for a Tuesday night, obviously a popular spot for good reason and defo worth a visit!

The food is very greasy and does not reflect the mexican cuisine. The manager does not treat his staff well, which is unacceptable!!

Tasty burrito at Glastonbury but very small and expensive, mostly wrap, and pretty light weight
