Not been for 6 months due to the group of F ers that sit round the table near the front door , but went in on Friday for a meal and no change , a group of 6 F ing this and F ing that and F ing everything , totally unsuitable with my 9 year old grandson going for a game of pool , wont be going again . Food was good though .

Got food poisoning from here was so ill.Messaged them numerous times but been ignored me so that's why the review is on here.Disgusting

We booked a table for 10, service was excellent, food delicious. We did however feel that we had been penalised for being a big party with a 10% service charge (£23). Next time we will check the small print on the menu.

Arrived at the pub at 2.45 and. Ordered drinks ,after about 30 minutes we decided to order,there was 6 of us . Don,t get me wrong the meal was fist class The only trouble was that at 5.30 we where told we had to move because our table was booked for 5.45 We had spent £165 and half the tables were empty This for me is bad customer service We where not told there was a time limit on your table Will go in again for a drink but not food

We booked @ 6.30pm for 12 including a baby in a pram. We pre booked our main meals as requested, but they would not let us order starters as we had not prebooked them. It took a hour and a half for meals to be served even though we prebooked and the place was not busy. and the meals were of the frozen kind, eg; chips. and to top all this we had a service charge. then we asked for a desert, They brought the menu 20 mins later we had to go and tell them we were ready to order as they were stood by the bar talking. other people came in after us and were served both starters and mains

We hadn’t book just called in on spec and managed to get a table. It was busy and we had to wait a bit for food but this wasn’t a problem. The food was lovely and very reasonable. The staff are friendly and helpful

we have been four times and have not been let down . food really good and pleasant staff. we eat out on a regular basis and the halfway house is now on our list of places to visit.

I have been here lots of times and as usual tonight ordered a medium rare sirloin streak. However when I cut into it, it was very overcooked. I didn't eat any of it, I didn't even wait for a waitress I walked straight to the till area to inform them. The waitress came back out and told me the chef said it was cooked med rare and if I expected a replacement steak I would have to pay again. I told them to cancel my order and that I would not be paying for a meal I couldn't eat. She went away, a few minutes later she came back saying the chef expected me to pay half the cost of the meal because I had eaten part of it - I hadn't. I told her I was not paying anything. She went away, again few minutes later came back to say chef says you have to pay half because the steak was med rare when it left the kitchen! Utter rubbish. Again told her I would not. She went away. Another manager then appeared and said the chef wants you to pay half the cost, are you willing to do that? I said no, he went away and that was eventually that. All of this was in the middle of the busy dining area! It spoiled our evening, my friends couldn't enjoy their meal whilst this was happening and they felt uncomfortable that I did not have a meal. I am booked in for half term with 5 other friends but that will now be cancelled. Never had such a bad time over a poorly cooked steak!

Called in this cosy pub for a couple of beers after a walk in the local park. A lovely welcome, choice of decent beers and a seat in the corner. TVs all over showing different sports but with the volume turned down so we could hear the great music.

Good choices could do with cooking proper chips instead of mass produced steak chips which to me had been frozen but food is good sometimes you had to attract the attention of staff who seemed to gather in corner for chats

Went for first time today - food ok service quick - nothing to distinguish it from other local pubs. Went on recommendation today for Sunday lunch. Portions far too large , roast potatoes not really roasted.Minimum amount of veg.. Unlikely to return for Sunday lunch.

Really good food but service and wait times are diabolical, sort out your act for service not as much money you can stuff in your tills

I have been here its of times and the food is consistently of great standard with great service at a great price. The sirloin steak is always fantastic and the Christmas menu this week was fantastic, so tasty, such generous potions.

We love it so much here we come every week! The menu is varied but they are also willing to slightly adjust the food to meet your dietary requirements. All the staff are amazing, Emily always remembers my husband’s preferences & special requirements 🥰 The food is absolutely gorgeous & very competitively priced. I like sirloin steak rare but hot, not many places can do that, but it’s perfect every time here!!! If you’ve not dined at the Halfway House you are missing out. Great food , had a meal booked with family for my sons 21st , the pub was busy , luckily we booked a table , food was excellent , ( in-laws been recently and fish and chips not so good ) everything was fresh , chicken sizzler was great , would defo go again

We went on Tuesday for evening the 17th October 2023 I had the steak sizzler and my friend had the chicken sizzler and my husband had the suet pudding and we all really enjoyed it it was very tasty and beautiful and we finished of with the Sunday of the day and even that was beautiful the staff were very welcoming and very friendly thanks for a lovely evening from the three of us xfantas

Celebrated my mum n dad diamond wedding anniversary with 15 family and friends. We pre ordered to make it easier and had to pay a £5 each deposit. The staff were attentive and organised. They allowed us time to have a chat and get drinks and the food was lovely. Everyone had something different varying from hanging kebabs to steak and salmon. The sizzler dishes looked amazing. All the food arrived quickly and hot. I brought a cake and we were given plates to serve it up if we wanted which I thought was a kind gesture. The landlord was extremely thoughtful and gave my parents a bottle of champagne for their special milestone. They were over the moon with the gesture and would definitely revisit for the food and atmosphere.

Third time visiting in the last three weeks yesterday for food and drinks, each time we’ve visited the food and service have both been absolutely excellent. We are totally perplexed by the bad reviews given for this place as they do not give a true representation of the people or food. Been here before and food not bad! And before any regulars on here moan about a person’s individual review - remember, this is what other people experience - good, bad or indifferent! We were so disappointed when we booked for a party of 10/11 at 8pm - we asked if a deposit was needed and the answer was NO. We also said that we would ring if the numbers decreased, which they didn’t! We arrived to find a rammed, crammed, noisy pub with a table set for 8 people! I didn’t appreciate the manager telling me that I must have got the numbers mixed up as I needed to pay a dep for over 10 people, hence having a table for 8. She was adamant that I was wrong! We had people coming to meet us from various places and had to quickly sort another venue on the last min on a Sat night - we ended up not too far away but had an exceptionally, brilliant night - sometimes you have to experience disappointment to find better! We had to walk out and the staff just looked the other way. I am sure you love, look after your regulars but in this day and age - all customers are important! Other bad reviews on here say that the manager is rude, well we can’t all be wrong - the manager needs to stay in the back out of the way and let the other staff deal with the customers.

Just returned from a lovely birthday evening at our favourite pub. Sat in the bar, had a couple of drinks and ordered some food. Pub very busyas usual, food arrived, absolutely spot on! Eaten here a few times now and every meal has been excellent whether in the pub side or the resturant. Dog friendly (pub side), and the staff have always been good, polite and efficient.

Celebrated my father in laws 80th birthday on 29th April with family. The food was amazing. Grest service and a good atmosphere. Would definitely recommend eating here and me and the hubby cannot wait to return.

Perhaps one of the best, if not the best, all round family pub in the Royton area. Good menu with something for all ages. Well priced and not too expensive. The staff (with the exception of the owner) were as you would expect.The owner shouted at my nephew for playing near the door (sat outside for COVID) and although I don’t disagree with what he was aiming to achieve he shouted at my nephew as you would shout at a dog. He is 7. (This man had no mask in and breached the 2 meters whilst telling him off) if the pub disagree please post cctv and/or I will share images.I approached the owner/ manager to explain my nephew was in tears and he shouldn’t speak to children in such a way. He justified his actions and told me “they shouldn’t be playin” to which I explained I don’t disagree and he should have spoke to me rather than shout at. 7 year old.The end product was the owner (as he called himself) stating it’s his pub and he will run it as he likes.The other staff are nice and seemed sick of this old mans aggression and lack of people skills.Avoid taking children and please of youDo complain to the pub and the brewery and take the complaint to the ombudsman is your not happy with the response.I would have ignored the overcooked food and poor quality seating (most are ok but we were unlucky) 100 pound spent left with an unhappy nephew, wet and very unhappy. Only discovered this pub when passing as not long moved to the area and so glad we did. Booked in for a bite to eat after a family walk around Tandle Hill a few weeks ago and had a great time - they even sorted a bit of sun for us! We had the little one who just played nicely with kids from other tables on the grass next to the beer garden with us taking it in turns to look over them, so was nice and relaxed. We were so impressed after that visit we booked in the following week this time taking my elderly mum who is a tough cookie to please but she really enjoyed it and the staff couldn't be more attentive to her which is all you want for the Queen Bee. I've eaten in other JW Lees pubs and with no disrespect to them (other than the ping and ding ones) was pleasantry surprised by the food - soup was obviously home made and really nice while the salt and pepper chips I got with the hanging chicken kebab were proper ones with all the shizzle dizzle on them not just a bit of powder sprinkled over the top out of a jar. Can I just say a special thanks to the lady front of house (sorry I did not catch your name) - you have been extremely friendly and helpful to us on both occasions we have visited and we aren't regulars so it is clearly in your nature. You really did make both visits all the more enjoyable - what a great advert for the pub you are! Also a shout out to all your staff, mostly all youngsters (everyone's a youngster compared to me nowadays!) all of whom were very efficient but also took the time to chat and make sure we were all alight especially my mum, they are all a credit to themselves and to you. Lastly to the landlord for giving his hard working staff an early dart on a bank holiday Sunday evening so they could enjoy a night out themselves after a busy day at work - it's clearly a great place to work which filters down to the service us punters receive. We went for tea ( or dinner if you're from the South) currently only allowed to eat and drink outside, due to Covid regs. However it is what it is. The food was excellent as always, great to have a pint or two with friends. The beer garden is great, staff are brilliant, Jack in particular is on the ball. Good to see that the pub is busy and you definitely need to book at this time. Can't wait until we're allowed inside again. Well done Vinnie.Covid safe environment. If you can't or don't want to follow what the gov has said you have to do, then stay away. It's not the staffs fault.

Lovely late lunch today. Fish,chips and mushy peas. Staff were helpful and really pleasant. Joe and Connor could not do enough for us. Made the visit pleasant. Food was lovely. Would definately recommend and will be going back again. Tables spaced out and gardens were really nice as was the food.

Had a lovely Vegetarian Sunday roast and a glass of red, the food was wonderful and so fresh. The staff were very friendly, particularly Vicky who was so welcoming and couldn’t do enough. Great atmosphere, definitely recommend.

I came here after seeing the specials board, Would definitely recommend the duck sizzler special, The restaurant had very good Covid measurements in place with hand sanitizer at the door, we was welcomed with a lovely smile from our waitress Joanna,( we ask for her name as we wanted to give her a special mention) the food was hot a lots of it we will be going back to try more of the specials and to take advantage of the 50% off meals too.

Wouldn’t recommend for food , I’d heard some decent reviews so decided to check it out , however the cheesy garlic bread and cheese and onion pie was clearly microwaved and greecy , edible but not enjoyable , and the curry did not resemble a curry in any way shape or form , even the waitress said it didn’t look right , so should not have been served , and although the waitress was pleasant the service was shocking , having to wait 15 minutes just for menus when the pub was empty and waiting a further 10 to order , then after not managing our cheesy garlic bread starter we waited a further 25 minutes for the plates to be cleared

Fantastic friendly staff, good food and such a lovely place to relax and eat after work, staff clearly put the customers first, the menu is varied and lots to choose from, Joanna the waitress serves with a smile as do the rest of the staff, 100% we will go again Thank you

Had an evening meal at the Half Way last night - absolutely brilliant, Vicky who runs the show is so attentive and customer focused. The food was great & the salt & pepper wings are to die for! The pub is COVID safe and they take social distancing very seriously. Would certainly recommend a visit for drink or food but I will certainly be going for both again very soon.

been to this pub a couple of times even had xmas dinner there last year allways been nice but disappointing service this time very slow got cutlery after meal sat watching food going cold disposable condiments already used back in the dish (not very wise in the current climate ) steak over cooked sent it back by the time it came again my friend had finished her meal .. had to time asking for a drink / dessert and bill as the waitress walked past out table to other dinners felt like I was always asking them instead of the other way round .. shame

Decided on last minute to have pub lunch, was not disappointed, first time in a while. Lovely surroundings and lovely staff, had steak and hubby had steak and ale pie which was very tasty, would highly recommend.

Booked there to celebrate 3 family members’ birthdays. Everything met our expectations and I’ve no hesitation in recommending it
