Being my first introduction to Ethiopian food, I was far from disappointed, the food was delicious, very moreish, and so full of flavour. Staff could not have been more friendly if they tried, the service was fantastic, and between myself and my wife we weren't even £30. I'd highly recommend giving this place a go!

It's been ages since i became customer in this resturant, before there was a guy who is very polite, hospitable. For the last few months there has been this ethiopian waiters every time i go there to buy injera she demands that i pay in cash when i asked to pay by card she was very rude and aggressive to me today and she refused to let me pay by card and went back home empty handed and she told me that the owners told her to accept cash only. In my life i don't carry cash it was very very terrible, disrespectful service.

The food was top tier here; amazing flavours and freshly made. I ordered the doro wot, spiced lentils and split peas with injera. All of which were delicious and seasoned exactly how I wanted it. The mango juice was also surprisingly good. In addition, the staff were friendly and the cook seemed to take pride in her cooking (as she should). All for a very reasonable price, highly recommend.

Delicious food with very helpful and enthusiastic service. One of the few places where I actually prefer the vegetarian option to the meat one! I've enjoyed every single time I have been- mostly due to the wonderful waiter. Particularly good are the vegetarian, lamb and chicken options. While the eating area is not fancy, it is very welcoming and feels like a hidden gem.

First time trying Ethiopian cuisine. The food is absolutely delicious the lamb samosa was crispy and fresh and the dipping sauce was spicy enough just the way I like it. Will definitely be trying other dishes from the menu next time.

Authentic and very different place for the UK and europe in general. I’ve only had Ethiopian once in my life before (in France) and this place didn’t disappoint. It was very authentic (you could see so many natives eating there), delicious and the portions were very generous, and the people very warm. The service however was very slow - I think they were understaffed and couldn’t handle how busy it gotten for a Saturday afternoon. Highly recommended tho if you want to try sth different! We go 2 mains to share and a vegetarian menu as salad and they came with tons of 🫓 their local bread. The lady showed us how to eat with the pita bread as spoons. The prices were super honest but they could work a bit on the interior (it was inside a kebab shop on the top floor) all I. All tho the food and the experience were delightful!

Surprised by this place. Being in Manchester for only a few nights, one certainty on the list, was to endure the platter. from the moment we walked in, it was an odd unwelcoming environment where we did not know whether it was open or not as we were looked at as we were displaced. then as we ordered, the food came really quick, which was great. Overall, the vegetarian platter portion was small. It was not enough to share, and our of the 4 variations of food on there, the shiro was fantastic, and the rest were very average.

I recently visited Habesha Ethiopian Restaurant with my Manchester food group, and we all thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The food was delicious, with generous portion sizes and a thoughtfully curated menu that made selecting our dishes a breeze. The service was outstanding—warm, welcoming, and always delivered with a smile. In terms of cost, it was spot on, offering great value for money. Overall, we were really happy with our visit and would highly recommend Habesha if you're in the mood for Ethiopian cuisine.

A hidden little restaurant with a small menu. I ordered a mild lamb dish and a tea with it. It was very tasty and I thought the portion was quite large. The tea had a cinnamon flavor but I couldn't figure out what exactly it was. The place may seem a little scary for women traveling alone, but everyone in the restaurant was very nice.

This is the perfect example for "hidden gem". It's a different experience, if we consider that Italian food, Chinese food, Indian food, Mexican food are more popular around the world. Ethiopian food is for fearless people. The tastes are authentic and you can notice that you are not eating any known dish anymore. Specially because you are going to eat without spoon... With your hand!!! It's spicy and hot. If you aren't used to that it could make you sweat... But anyway ALWAYS TAKE AN ANTACID PILL AFTER THIS DINNER. It's delicious (like going to Grandma's home) but it's heavy and challenging. Hey! The restaurant is located in the first floor of the corner building. You must look for the stairs for going up.

Delighted to find an Ethiopian restaurant so near the station to introduce a friend to my favourite food. Good food, good spices. To improve there needs to be more colour and variety with the Tsom Beyaynatu. I often eat at Ethiopian restaurants and this was the least generous Beyanatu I've ever seen! Service was very slow. On the other hand, ery busy restaurants with loads of Habesha people showing how authentic the food is

This place is a real experience. It is a bit hard to find, but once you get there, you feel like you have left Manchester. The service took quite a while but was incredibly friendly, and they explained how to eat the injera (soured teff flour pancake) properly, which was helpful. We ordered the Doro Wat and a mixed vegetarian dish with injera. The vegetarian dish had lots of delicious buttery pulse purees, and the doro wat was spicy and warming too. I did not expect to find a shop that captures a drop of Ethiopia's vast culture, food, and hospitality so well in the city centre. You have to take a staircase above a takeaway to reach this spot. As soon as you enter, you can hear Ethiopian expats talk in their native tongues enjoying their local food. The menu is very small, unfotunately I do not have a photo. They serve 9 stews, 2 are vegetarian, all served with a flatbread called Injira. This is similar to a Dosa/Thosai. They make it by fermenting soaked rice and wheat flour for 10 days and frying it on a large pan. The portions are huge! I was stuffed by the end. Each stew and Injira ranges are between 10 and 11 pounds, which I believe is a great price. We ordered Yebeg Wot (Lamb stew) and Shiro (chickpea stew). You use the spoon to scoop a little onto the bread, then tear the bread around it to scoop and eat. We also had tea, which was infused with cinammon bark giving a deep and complex spice and sweetness. This is much better than mixing cinnamon powder in teas. I was surprised to learn they buy green coffee to roast in house! Ethiopian coffee is some of the best in the world. They pull a shot with Ethiopian cardamon, giving the already rich coffee a complex spicy note. I can't recommend enough. I understand if people do not enjoy, I myself am not used to this type of cuisine and flavor. However, I encourage you to try at least once ❤️

Came here today with my friend as we liked the look of the small menu - always a good sign that they know what they're on about! We arrived at 2pm on the dot when the restaurant was just opening up, so we were the first people there. It took some time for our food to arrive, but when it did we were very pleased with it. My friend ordered kitfo and I ordered a lamb whose name escapes me but it tasted incredible. We couldn't quite manage all the injera that came with the meat, there was a lot of it, but we came away very happy and having not blown a hole in our wallets. 10/10 would go again.

What a fabulous place this is. Before talking about the food, i would like to appreciate the staff, so smily and cheerful. Nebew was such a fun host and server. The food is outstanding. This was the first time we tried Ethiopian Cuisine. We tried the Wot which is a medium spicy stew which is slightly thick cooked with meat. Doro Wot is tender chicken slow cooked with onion, garlic, ginger, spices and herbal butter served with a boiled egg. Shiro - Powdered chickpeas cooked with onion, garlic and ginger, mildly spiced Beyaynetu is a traditional national dish served with various components - Yetsom Beyaynetu is spicy red lentils, yellow split peas, cabbage and carrots, shiro and house salad. The Injera is a flatbread similar to a pancake which is made from teff flour and is served with all the dishes. The total bill for 6 people was £60 including 5 Ethiopian Beers and food. Would love visiting again. Thank you for all the hospitality ❤️

Very tasty and reasonable price, we paid about £68 for 5 people, which was 5 main dishes, 3 Ethiopian beers, 2 soft drinks. It’s essentially a bowl of stew, with some soft bread (like a sour savoury pancake)that you dip in and eat it with…we had lamb, chicken & mixed vegetarian option. We went in the evening- the restaurant area is upstairs via a spiral staircase and from the outside it’s not immediately apparent that anyone is in..but they are! Went in for early dinner on my own, wanted to try something new and being inspired by the Simpsons I thought I'd give Ethiopian food a try. Really weird location, above a kebab shop in the gay village. Decor was nice inside, clean, service was friendly but a little slow given how few people were inside, prices were amazing however. Ethiopian beer was cheap and good, and the food was only £11. Ordered one thing and couldn't even finish it. Loads of lamb in my stew, I have my reservations ordering lamb because usually places tend to skimp on portions but not here. The bread thing served with every meal was nice too, a strange but not unpleasant sour taste. I would come here again. The stew was delicious.

Visited lastnight, chuffed to eat cheap yet great food. Shame the portions were small but the traditional sour flatbread filled me up enough at the time. Each meal was about £11 minimum and cheap bottled beer at around £3.25. Lovely atmosphere seems very authentic and the staff were super friendly and polite, a tip well deserved. Only thing is finding the place was confusing but it’s on the corner and you’ve to go into the fast food place below then follow the spiral stairs up and you’ll have landed yourself in the habesha restaurant :) the lamb was lovely and tender. This was one of the most disappointing experiences I've had at an Ethiopian restaurant. The waitress was rude and condescending when I mentioned I would wait for my friend before placing an order. To make matters worse, a drunk customer interrupted our conversation and even joined our table uninvited, yet the staff did nothing to ensure our comfort or safety (not that we couldn't handle it ourselves if needed). When I raised this concern, I was surprised to hear they assumed the person was with us, despite him joining after we had already eaten. I would strongly recommend avoiding this place. There are far better Ethiopian restaurants in Manchester that offer genuine hospitality.

A authentic menu of traditional dishes served in large plates for traditional dining! Friendly staff to guide one through menu if unfamiliar with Ethiopian / Eritrean food. A place well worth dining out in Central Manchester. A short walk from Piccadilly gardens and accessible by tr and train
