H & F Vintage Tearoom in Chesterfield

Food not as good as it used to be. Nice place but always cold and can sometimes be a bit snobby especially when owners in. Like the place but when you go a lot it’s never recognised as being an ongoing customer like other cafes. Which would be nice.

Needed a pit stop for lunch and this terrific tea room certainly came up trumps. Lovely greeting on entering then time to peruse the menu, we went for a special of the day plus one of their yummy cakes to share, both which which were tasty and hit the spot. Tea room is very well laid out and airy with excellent decor and the staff offer very efficient service, all in all this a great place to enjoy a spot of lunch.

Met with friends for lunch in this vintage themed cafe and was not disappointed. Food was good, and reasonably priced and staff were pleasant and efficient. The cakes looked absolutely delicious. I’ll try them next time.

Popped in for a quick lunch x 3 - nice food, great service and no complaints at all. This is not the first time we have been here but we make a habit if in town of going there for either dinner / sandwiches or whatever takes our fancy

Called in today, my husband had fruit scone with butter! Which turned out to be margarine. I had cherry scone with clotted cream and jam, which it definitely wasn't, more like sugary whipped cream, and supermarket jam. Very disappointing

Service is slow. My husband had a bacon sandwich which was under par because it was stringy and small I had a Welsh rabbit Which was very disappointing when it first came out it was very cold. The cheese on top of the rabbit wasn’t cooked. I sent it back to be cooked properly, but when it was returned to me half an hour later, the cheese still wasn’t cooked to my satisfaction. The dish was still very cool. I felt uncomfortable, returning the dish for a second time. So I ate what was it for me paid and left I will not be returning

I come here fairly regularly with my husband and/or son. We love it, ots reasonably priced, the food is lovely and it's great for little coffee stop off, with fast service and lovely staff.

morning, we came Saturday 20 th May for my leaving do, we had the afternoon tea. I just want to say how disappointed everybody was, for what we paid the value of it was very poor everybody commented saying every afternoon tea we’ve been to there is normally plenty to eat. There wasn’t even a few crisps sausage roll sprig of lettuce just literally 3 finger style small sandwiches 1 scone and a cuppa tea. We all had to go somewhere else to eat as it certainly didn’t fill anyone., I wouldn’t recommend afternoon tea.

Went here for an afternoon tea after getting engaged. Had our 2 dogs with us. Cant fault the place. Brilliant value. We have had a good few afternoon teas and cream teas over the years and this is by far the best and best value we have had. The cake was lovely and you had a choice of a good few and they were proper cakes and proper size pieces. The sandwiches were very tasty too. We upgraded to the prosecco as we were celebrating. It was well worth it. The staff couldn't do enough for us either. It was a hot day and before we had a chance to get our dog bowl and water out one of the staff had bought a bowl of water out for the dogs. They also helped move a couple of the parasols, so us, the dogs and the food all had some shade. All in all we can't fault it and will definately be back for more. Absolutely fantastic.

Very very poor!! 3 measly filled fingers for sandwiches and one scone. That was supposed to be afternoon tea. Appalling. £15 each for everyone to leave hungry. Never again. Would not recommend

Ideal place for a afternoon tea. Willy Wonka style . Made me and my wife fell like royalty. Celebrating 25th wedding anniversary staff pull out all the stops especially Rafal our waiter gave an excellent service. Credit to all the staff in the hotel they all were professional in all manners. Thank you to the Chesterfield will definitely recommend you to all my family and friends.

Beautiful downstairs area, quirky and cool. Had tea and cakes. Staff sempt friendly and happy to serve. We sat in the window area and enjoyed having a quiet area to sit. Haven’t been upstairs so can’t comment on that. There were some nice cakes to choose from and they’re big generous slices and good value for money. Will be back again when next in town instead of going to the Costa I used to go to, much better value here

Visited here on a lovely cold Saturday morning. I had some cake off the counter which was absolutely lovely. Staff who served us very pleasant and welcoming. Only gripe i would have with this place is the coffee. Its pretty clear some training is required on the beverage menu, Milk is overboiled spoiling the taste of the coffee and the menu is very confusing. " All drinks are made with a double shot" But then drinks are explained as " An espresso with a bit of milk" (Flat White) The description of each drink is incorrect and if all drinks are made with a double shot why are each description saying Espresso? A double shot is a double espresso? I also noticed on the set up, the grinder is full of beans (keep them fresh in the bag) Beans are always freshest air tight from the bag as apposed to being too large of a quantity in the hopper. handles left out of the machine (Keep the handles warm and insulated) Personally i am not a fan of Northern tea merchants coffee, They are a tea merchant and specialise in tea.. the coffee lacks flavour and body If visiting for lunch and cake, Its a great spot. But if you are wanting good coffee there is better places in Town. Bit of training (Being able to perform Lattes and Flat Whites) and coffee from a roastery would help.

We booked for afternoon tea. Can't really say we were impressed. No fruit or plain scones. Only offered cherry or cheese! No other choice but to accept cherry scones which were very sweet (sugar sprinkled on top!). Wrong texture for me as i like firm with a soft middle. These were just crumbly. Sandwiches were fine. Good cake choice but two of the three flavours we ordered were dry. Presentation was fine but as there was 4 of us on a small table, we couldn't see each other when the afternoon tea arrived on it's 3 tiered stand. Overall, I wouldn't go back for an afternoon tea.

Came here today with my family for a birthday afternoon tea. The food and service was lovely. This is a great place. I can’t believe I never knew it was here before. My partner and I visited at the beginning of August twice. Both times the attitude of the person serving us (on previous visits I've never seen this woman out on the floor) was very poor. Only went back the second time to give them one last try and the same womans attitude was so poor! Not one for writing reviews really but it put me off my drink- I just wanted to leave straight away but had already paid Definitely will NOT be back again. Which is a shame because I love the decor and menu.

I absolutely love the vintage tea rooms... by far the nicest place for a meet up with friends... we love it.Amazing cakes and the decor is great, all vintage and old stuff with the log burner lit on cold days which we love.Staff are great and absolutely doing their best with this new normal of social distancing. I regularly go here and reading the negative comments I am shocked... why not say when you are there if there is a problem, I'm sure they would sort it asap..?Anyway I'd not hesitate to reccomend it... definitely a stop off if you visit Chesterfield xx

My family and I got a takeaway afternoon tea to celebrate my graduation in July and we were amazed with not only the value for money but also the quality of the food and the thought put in. The cakes here have always been amazing and this hasn’t suffered despite the covid restrictions. In my opinion, it’s also the best cream tea outside of Devon! Guidance regarding social distancing was also adhered to by all at the tea rooms when I went in to pick it up - and overall we were very very impressed. It made up for a lack of graduation ceremony!

One of my favourite places to visit. Food is always excellent and served with a smile. These are challenging times for hospitality staff but the staff are doing a fabulous job. Love the decor and atmosphere. Keep up the good work

We visited today for afternoon tea for a friends birthday and what a let down it was waitress ignorant Un attentive and miserable no return to table to see if everything was ok we wanted more drinks and couldn't get anyones attention and it wasn't busy we have been on numerous occasions and had excellant service never been made to feel as uncomfortable as we did today the cost of our visit today in all was over £60 and if hadn't paid before meal we would have left total letdown will not return or recommend

Looked forward to an afternoon tea with friends. The afternoon tea itself was not as nice as a previous one, although it had been booked the sandwiches looked as though they'd been thrown together. The member of staff who eventually came to us was quite abrupt and unpleasant. Ate up and went elsewhere.

Went here yesterday for a late birthday treat. On arrival we had to choose our choice of cake. I'm not a great lover of huge slices of cake and would have preferred a selection of bite sized pieces on a plate. We were shown to our table, very well socially distanced table and placed our order for hot drinks and our cake choice. We ordered a decaffinated coffee and an Americano and were charged an extra £1 each as they are not the standard filter coffee included. This is not made clear on the menu! I've had plenty of afternoon teas, with huge ranges of hot drinks and never had to pay extra, it's pulled into the price! (Surprisingly, the same friend had been the week before, had similar hot drinks and didn't get charged the extra costs.)The food arrived on a beaitiful ornate cake stand, all freshly made sandwiches, pre made choice of fruit or cherry scone with jam and cream, lemon possett and a huge slice of our chosen cake. All very fresh and tasty. My only real complaint was the lemon possett. Undoubtedly delicious in flavour, all I could taste was metal as it's served in wonderful copper and metal pots. Citrus always draws on metal to change the taste to a very bitter flavour. I wanted to mention this on my visit, but as my friend had paid out over £30, I didn't want to embarrass her. I really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere, as we sat for nearly two hours chatting over a 2nd cup each but was disappointed by the possett.

After many visits to the Vintage Tea Rooms in Chesterfield , and experiencing the lovely relaxed atmosphere , excellent home cooked food , being served by staff who really enjoy their job i find it hard to digest poor reviews . The tea rooms are clean & well cared for . From start to finish i find the whole dining experience very relaxing with the lovely caring staff making it that little bit more special . I especially like the outside area on sunny days . Well recommended ! A recent review mentioned the place was tired & needed a re vamp !! ITS A VINTAGE TEA ROOM !! Its not a Costa or Starbucks . As for the car park its a council owned facility with a time limit paid by machine . If you need longer then select an alternative car park , theres lots close by . Sorry for my rant but this place does not in my opinion deserve poor feedback . Better still try it for yourself , you wont be disappointed .

Car park charges. Only 20p for a brief stay.Socially distanced. Toilets are porta cabins located in the next room. Plenty of steps including a black step in the cubicle. I am not a lover of tin toilets.Food indifferent. Altogether a visit best forgotten. Staff nice, building needs a refurb including toilet upgrade and accessible toilet. Avoid at all cost.

I booked a table for 10 persons for a babyshower with plenty of notice, nearly 2 weeks before the event I called to update the number as we were going to be 14 persons. A member of the staff told me this wasn't a problem at all. Then I received a call 2 days before the event saying that because the number has increased fom 10 to 14 persons we will have to leave at a certain time because they had abother big group... After a long discussion we decided to cancel our booking... They didn't give me much alternatives!!!Incredibly disappointed with the attitude of the owner!!

Nice location but arrived just before 4pm knowing they closed at 5pm but at 4:10 the sign was turned to closed. The staff followed to clean up, sweeping, pushing me out. I was made to feel like I was not meant to be there despite paying for my coffee. Awful environment.

Excellent little place for a coffee. Nicely decorated, friendly staff, lovey cakes, and kid friendly. Would definitely recommend, and will be returning next time we want a coffee.

We decided to visit the Vintage tearooms for a birthday celebration. We all chose different things off the menu.I chose Eggs Benedict,this was cooked to perfection with the perfect amount of hollandaise sauce. The carved ham was beautiful. The salad lovely and fresh. My mum choose the ham sandwiches.The bread was freshly sliced lovely and soft,the ham again carved and tasted beautiful.A good amount of salad and crisps on the side.Both these items we would order again and recommend .My daughter had afternoon tea for 1.A great idea that you can choose which slice of cake you wanted and also a normal portion size. The scone lovely and fresh with clotted cream and jam.Also there was a small syllabus which was delicious. The sandwiches however were a great disappointment.The bread was bog standard ready sliced,the ham packet what you would call plastic ham.A tiny spread of cream cheese with bits of cucumber. The 3rd one was cheese. When you come to a place where quality is key,and certainly the other meals were.We couldn't understand why when ordering afternoon tea which is special in itself you are served a totally different quality sandwich. My daughter was so disappointed especially when seeing the delicious ham sandwiches on our table.She would have just ordered sandwiches and cakes separately if she had known,and the price wouldn't have been much different. It did spoil our visit.We will be back but wouldn't buy or recommend the afternoon tea to anyone. Hence the reason I gave only 4 instead of 5 stars.

Beautiful olde world decor give this tea room the air and atmosphere it deserves. You can't help looking around and smiling . Afternoon tea is a delight.

This used to be a great place good service great food and clean and organised.Very disappointed the coffee was spilt in saucer very messyOrdered cream for coffees which we had go to counter to ask for more as a quarter jug Scrambled egg on toast bread not toasted egg literally plonked on all 4 pieces very soggy and wet ??Order quiche thick huge piece looked bought at market very crude...cold had to stand in queue to be warmed ...No salt pepper on tables no serviette s had to get up and look for them and get my own .Paid 17 .00 was there at lunch ...busy but if you cant cope then cut down on tables no excuse Staff not helpful except the one you're paying Wont be returning at all think my standards are a bit higher sad as it used to be good

We came here today for a family birthday. The staff were grumpy and downright rude and it was almost too much trouble to serve us. The cake selection was poor with only 3 cakes on offer 2 of which were very similar and when they came the slices were tiny although the price tag was pretty hefty. It's dingy in there and we will never go again. Totally ruined my husband's day.

A group of us booked here for an evening retirement do. The place itself was very nicely decorated and very cosy. We had a pie and peas night and the food was delicious. Myself and my lovely lady keep going back to this lovely, cosy coffee bar where the service is lovely, the room is done is a lovely rustic decor, and most important whenever we have eaten either breakfast, lunch or cakes they are of high quality. The take good care of ingredients and always fresh. The team and coffee choice is so good.

Looking for afternoon tea, on a rainy afternoon after a very long morning sightseeing and although the kitchen was already closed, the lovely ladies at the vintage tea shop still served us an outstanding afternoon tea.
