The Rectory in Chesterfield

We found the Rectory in Guide Michelin and as always the seem to deliver on their recommendations. It was a little hard to find the place, but one there we got a nice table facing the garden. Starters excellent - the lobster and the squid. The Duck as a main course also very good. The pasta with truffles needed more taste. The cheeses were served on a hot plate and melted - more raclette than selected cheeses. Attentive and friendly staff.

I'm really sorry to see this pub closing down . I have tried to book a table for us to go this week and had an e mail to say they were closing this week . I have had some excellent meals here . With friendly staff and plenty of quirky items dotted around The outside space was lovely too. I hope the staff all get jobs else where . Good luck to you all .

Visited while we were in the area as last time it was so busy we were sad we didn't get a chance to try it. It was really quiet. We checked out the menu outside, found something we each wanted only to find out it was reduced menu of just pizza or nachos. We ordered a drink each and I took a chance on raspberry ripple cider. Definitely not for me. It tasted like someone had washed out an old ice cream tub. Bought a replacement drink and decided to go elsewhere for food instead. The atmosphere was sadly lacking which is a shame because it's such a beautiful venue. The ladies toilets are so stylish with those basins 😍 the tiles, the paper. The countertop slightly lets it down and the black grubby marks from a long times worth of spray under the dryer. All in all we were a bit disappointed having seen other reviews and not being able to get a seat before. I hope when we're back over that way we can amend the review and that it was just a blip.

Absolutely love coming here,food is always spot on, fantastic atmosphere always, friendly,welcoming staff, nothing is too much for them,a nice selection of ales and a quirky, interesting place,plenty of space,inside,garden,dog friendly..nothing else needed. Well done to all

Real ale I had on the hand pump was delicious (dark drak dancing duck - always good) have spoken to the landlord before who was very friendly. Just a shame that it wasn't that busy on a Friday night

Food was a little slow to arrive and when it did it was disappointing. The door step fish finger sarnie with chips was toasted white bread with some kind of squashed fish (not fish finger shaped) with slices of potatoes which just tasted a fat. The tapas arrived cold and needed to be sent back and the pastry on the pie was rock hard. Not expensive food but not worth it given the issues

Fantastic food a little pricey but the food is definitely worth it

Very nice pub,always visit in town,food is lovely,however the last few visits have been spoilt by bad smell around toilets,do not sit nearby if having food. Manager needs to address this issue as it spoils a nice pub,with other new bars in town may lose customers if not.

Genuinely not impressed with this place, poor and slow service and the food is mediocre at a push. Ordered a burger with some onion rings, the burger was dry with minimal flavour, and the onion rings… oh the onion rings, swimming in a pool of oil - the USA would have a field day.

Went in for food with friends. Ordered steak and ale pie. Mostly pastry not much filling did not expect to find potatoes and vegetables inside my pie I expected to find steak only had two pieces of meat wish we'd eaten somewhere else. Very disappointed

Nice food on a limited menu. The manners of a particular member of staff needs addressing he was quite rude. Not sure whether he was the manager.

One of the few decent modern bars that has inherited the older feeling with a slight modern twist. Nice staff and good beers. Will definitely be back when in town.

Arrived today to find our reserved table was not reserved. A large section of pub was closed off on busiest day of the year. Lots of people arrived & left, as area so packed. Supervisor, Fenella, was rude. As a regular, I would have expected better, but I may not be a regular much longer.

Busy bar. Popular for food but I didn't eat here. Bar staff quick and attentive.

Amazing drinks, food was a little underwhelming considering the price of a special chips but other than that was fantastic

We arrived with a booked slot, we were asked if we had book and we were shown to a table,we settled down and eventually were served drinks, after some time waiting to order food another waitress came and informed us we had to move as we had been seated in the wrong area,we picked all our things up and moved to a different part of the restaurant, we ordered our food eventually but!! Our booking time was 5 30 pm we got our food at 7pm totally unacceptable, food was good but we won't be returning.

Good pub, closes too early on most nights

Honestly the food is delicious, it's worth a visit Folk's 😍 Go visit the crooked spire in Chesterfield and have some delicious food, Also go see one of the oldest pubs in the UK, Built in the 12th Century, Obviously I had to try the Beasty Burger, ots a double stack Beasty Burger With Butter milk Southern fried Chicken and obviously a beef patty, Also Hunter Chicken with a side of Wedges, Home made slaw and mixed salad.

Waited 45 minute for a pie with absolutely no flavour, and rock hard pastry! Left most of it. Small portions, we spent £35 altogether for really awful food, what shouldn't have taken that long. Both cokes we had were nearly flat. I had to go up and ask, and also the table behind us had to get up and ask aswell because theres was getting on for an hours wait! Added an extra star for friendly staff but wont be visiting again after today and certainly wont be recommending it anytime soon unfortunately as the food was a major let down.

Awful food. One of the worst pizzas I have ever had. Nachos have never been nachos, greasy pieces of card is all I can describe them as. Will NOT be returning.

Interesting food menu with pretty decent prices although quality isn't always amazing. Good selection of beers, lagers and IPAs. Quirky decor with plenty of hidden private nooks to slip away into. Food service isn't the best at times.

Went for a meal with a friend and had the Beasty Burger. damn nice burger. The food was great and the gentleman behind the bar was very polite. Will be coming again

Came for dinner but the menu has changed and it seems to have fewer options and the ones that are left seem a bit of a random selection. Also.. a salmon caesar wrap? What's wrong with chicken? Had the steak pie but when it came it seemed like a shop bought one with hardly any filling. The gravy also tasted like gravy granules. I have always enjoyed the food here so it's a shame its now gone down hill in terms of quality.

Been a few times now and the food has always been first class. Excellent value for money. Coeliac options are good which is always a key point for me. Lots of different areas to sit in including a lovely outdoor area looking out to the Crooked Spire. Would highly recommend giving it a try if you have not done so.

Ordered meat sandwiches with potatoes. Disgusting. The pork sandwich stated apple sauce which was absent, the stuffing resembled a burnt sausage, potatoes did not taste and the gravy had a layer of grease. Politely told the staff they could not care less.

The inside of this place is amazing. The drinks were good .The food was burnt got fresh chips still rubbish the burger was so black .As said good bub .need a new cook

Friendly knowledgeable staff and a great selection of hand pulled beers. If you have time to eat the menu is well worth checking out.

After being let down for a friends baby shower they managed to fit us in at last minute. The service was perfect and the food was stunning. One of my favourite places to eat and will definitely be back

Great food, at a good price but what stood out was the service we had from the manager. Unfortunately I don't know the Lady's name but she ensured our food arrived quickly and ( we don't know Chesterfield ) called us a cab at the end of our meal, making sure it had arrived and that the driver knew our destination! Brilliant Service, well done !

The food was lovely but everything else was underwhelming. We were origionally sat outside and had to move inside because the punters were so loud, rude and obnoxious. The main corridor to the toilets stinks of a urinal. Our food was sat on the pass for about 5 minutes and when it was eventually served the waitress had a mouthful of food! Which was very unhygenic and unprofessional. I don't know the waitress's name but we were sat on table 25. Not impressed...

We've had excellent meals here. We have our Christmas party here. Service is good, food is excellent. We also have our monthly board games nights and book club here. They are always so accommodating. One of our favourite haunts.

Very dissatisfied, ordered 4 dinners, received 3 they apparently 'forgot' to put the 4th dinner through, when our dinners came out, they eventually realized the error, but by this time it was obvious that the 3 dinners would have been eaten or gone cold by the time the missing dinner arrived!!! The meals were average at best, and taking on board my friends carrot allergy, peas were offered, but never arrived, we complained, and was offered a very measly 20% discount only off the food, almost like they were doing us the favour!! Wouldn't go back at all!! I would give no stars, but then I couldn't leave a review

The service was so so slow it was tedious. The food took forever to come out, and the bar staff took forever to serve drinks. The men's toilets smelled so bad of urine every time the door opened all the tables got a strong whiff. This was absolutely disgusting. The food I had was awful and not as described on the menu. My friend said hers was tasteless. Those in the party said their burgers were OK. Ours were the buns off the vegetarian menu and not reccomended at all. Overall the service was so poor and the staff looked like they couldn't care less. Noone seemed to smile, or say please or thank you apart from the waitress that bought the food to the table. Really disappointing, won't very visiting again.

Simply exceptional food ; excellent prices and friendly warm and welcoming staff. Food is cooked with such care and passion , even at 2000 on Monday , by someone who is obviously exceptionally talented at what they do. If you are visiting Chesterfield you must seek this place out . You won't be disappointed.

This was a great diversion from our usual haunts on our regular visit to Chesterfield Centre. Drawn by a great soundtrack, we visited on a busy Saturday night. They offer a huge selection of drinks, a great menu and lots of snacks if you prefer. Prices match the decor, not over the top, but modern in their approach. I'm guessing the building has been a very long time, and how this place is now set up now it will be around for a lot longer. Top notch ⭐️

Went to a private gathering in a sectioned off part of the pub. Nice atmosphere and food plentiful. Buffet a little over-priced, but that's just my personal opinion.

Thought Chesterfield was a lovely town centre. The Rectory looks beautiful inside and out and is located right next to Chesterfield's crooked spire. The drinks are more pricey than the nearby Weatherspoons, but they're worth it. Very friendly, diligent staff + the beer garden is enclosed so we could let our little girl have a run around while we relaxed. All in all, very impressed. 5 stars.

Love this place, a bit quirky. Great choice of real ales and the food we have eaten here is lovely. Friendly, pleasant team of staff too. Also, dog friendly (a massive plus point).
