Clean and tidy but had a cheap feel. Serviettes disintegrated on the first use. Penny pinching! Service was very good but the food wasn't great. The house burger was apparently good but the chicken burger was tiny. The roll was fine and nice salad filling and accompanying salsa. Side salad excellent. Chips were unseasoned and there was no salt and pepper on the table. Penny pinching again. Ketchup came in those little sachets which, even as a man, I find tricky to undo without making a mess. Didnt have brown sauce. Penny pinching. Wouldn't take much to improve to a better standard

Amazing service, amazing food and reasonably priced. A great pre-theatre venue. Cannot recommend this place enough.

Would be 5 stars but for the location by a main junction. The actual place is run by a great team, very welcoming, chatty & attentive. Had the fish & chips which I must say was one of the best I’ve tasted. Other dishes coming out also looked very good & will be back to sample those next time. Altogether, a great ding & drinking experience.

We were made to feel very welcome from the moment we arrived and received a great service and really enjoyed the food we really rate this bar, love it!

All I can say is 💯% will be going there again. Brilliant service friendly atmosphere food amazing. Go there peeps you won't be disappointed.

Pre theatre meal, I’ve read the reviews below and I’m not sure if the chef or management changed but I totally disagree with the bad reviews. The restaurant was very busy but we were seated promptly, drinks order was taken within minutes of being seated even thou you could see they were extremely busy. We ordered the the skewers to start these were lush so tasty, main course came out perfectly timed and my partner was looking for salt I taste my bolognaise as it didn’t need any further seasoning it was seasoned to perfection. We really enjoyed our meal and the hosts a husband and wife die were spot on. We will deffo return.

We were greeted with a warm welcome and smiles which was a welcome relief after a long day of travelling! We couldn’t fault our experience and Tuesday (our server) was brilliant!! Food was perfect with our recommendation of the fish and chips and loaded fries. The toilets were also clean and well presented. Great place to enjoy.

Shocking service! Rude staff and no urgency (despite knowing there is a show on). The restaurant has gone downhill due to the service which is a shame as the food is good. Won't be returning.

I was so impressed by the friendly owner and accommodating nature of the place. We wanted pizza and we were a bit late to order, but the owner went out of his way to accommodate us hungry beaaaaaaatches! 🤭 We will defo come again! Up the saints!! x

100% recommend this place. We’d come to Southampton for theatre at Mayflower. It was torrential rain outside so we figured we’d see which places were close by, for food before the show. So pleased we came in here. The pizzas were excellent and the service really friendly. Quick too! We’ll definitely be back next time we come over this way to Theatre!

Visited after the ABP marathon race, exceptional service, looked after us well and they were great with the toddlers / kids. Food was the best I've had out in a long time, the kids loved their spag bol too. Would recommend a visit and I'll certainly return if I'm in the area next time! Thank you

After breaking down in the pouring rain, two lovely men came and pushed me onto the curb within minutes! after finding out they were from here, they invited me into their pub with very friendly staff whilst I waited for the AA and treated myself to a drink. Will definitely be coming here again!

Unfortunately food portions are very small and the place isn't generous with toppings but it is a nice atmosphere and the service is good too

Went there with family .. starters came out at the same time as our mains I had the nachos to share worst I’d ever had just bland then I had the fish n chips , chips were ok but fish was very greasy my partner had spaghetti bolognaise and garlic bread , it was tasteless and garlic bread was dry plus cold and no Parmesan.. this was just ours , other member of our group wasn’t impressed either … I’m not going to go into great detail … it was just very disappointing and expensive for what it was !

We arrived just after the start of the show at the mayflower so lots of seats were available. We had a great waiter who was not only attentive but was full of energy. Food was excellent, I recommend the fish and chips, way better than you'd think! I'm not too sure about the pop art decor, feels a little too caffe for the evening and the atmosphere was a bit quiet as everyone had left for the show. I had a really good time.

This was a pre theatre dinner which we were looking forward to as we had viewed menu online. The menu when we got it was slimmed down so couldn’t have pork which I was looking forward to. The welcome was nice enough and our drinks order was taken quickly. The food order followed and I asked if the pizza could be served on a gluten free base and the waitress wasn’t sure but then told me to look at symbols… I opted for a burger without bun! The food took about 35 minutes to appear and nobody apologised for delay. I was not offered another drink and had to go to the little service point and ask for another. The staff were so young and spent a lot of time sipping their own drinks whilst waiting to get something to serve. When our food arrived it was like something I would expect to find in a backstreet cafe. My burger was a slab of meat with a slither of cheese on top. My partner had lasagne which was crispy on top. It wasn’t until I got home and checked menu again that I realised my meal should have included a burger sauce, coleslaw and caramelised onion… no it didn’t… chips, 3 lettuce leaves and a sliced tomato. Dessert was fine for me and the best part which was chocolate (gluten free) brownie with ice cream. Partner cheesecake with berries but he left berries as they were obviously frozen and had been defrosted in a slushy mess. We didn’t complain as we maybe should have checked reviews. We came away £60+ lighter in our bank for a below average experience.

We were waiting for the theatre to open and went here a quick meal, well quick is an understatement, whilst we were waiting we saw at least 2 couples walk out because of the lack of service, I ordered an Americano and 2 spag bogs, what i eventually got was 1 cold coffee and 2 cold spag bogs. So to sum up appalling service , cold food and staff too young to give a damn.

The whole place needs closing down! I have friends who go there and they've been telling us some disturbing information about that place so we travelled from New Forest to watch a show at Mayflower, and decided to check it out for ourselves, I'm an ex copper and I know when someone's on the gear, Dan the bar owner is definitely on something eyes bloodshot unkempt and always on edge, I do wonder what his real job role is in that place because he never seems to move from that bar, the service is shoddy and chaotic his partner Kirsty is quite slightly moody and grumpy, She seems to be more in to her paper work and takes her role quite seriously than greeting customers, The other members of staff seem friendly enough, The positive thing about that place is that the décor is warm greeting and nice, but is it good enough for us to go back? A definite NO, there's something not quite right about this pub, An investigation may be needed

The place was empty when we arrived at 12noon. Ordered 2 adults & 2 kids meals. Waited 40 minutes. 2 tables that arrived after us received their food first. Eventually 2 meals were brought to us - a kids burger and a Mac & cheese as ordered by the children. The waitress queried the Mac & cheese as it was an adult meal we confirmed we had ordered a kids portion. She went back and forth to the till and the kitchen a few times before returning and snatching away both meals!! She stated they were meant for another table not ours and although the children had started eating she took them both away. Ten minutes later all 4 meals finally arrived - no apology.

We’ve been a few times now & it’s been great. We hired the upstairs for a party which went brilliantly, would highly recommend. We’ve also popped in for drinks & food & had a great time. The staff & owners are really friendly, the place is beautifully decorated & the atmosphere is lovely & chilled. Great place to go for food or drinks as an alternative to the likes of busy Bedford Place.

the staff were inattentive and the customer service was poor. the food was awful and we had to wait for an hour before our food arrived. when it arrived two people were left without food for 15mins and when it did finally come, it was a shocking attempt at a carbonara and the pasta was al dente. the seafood pasta was so hot one of us couldn’t finish it. overall the experience was a 0/10

Booked as a family for pre theatre dinner. To be on safe side had booked 1715 for 1900 theatre show. On arrival not sure who we were even though we had booked and provided name. Drinks arrived promptly although all soft drinks were flat. Order taken at 1725. Nothing for an hour and started to chase. Finally 2 meals arrived at 1835, one more 5 minutes later and the last at 1845. 1 x burger ordered burnt to a crisp, the other burger undercooked and inedible pasta meal cold but surrounded by burnt ( I mean properly burnt) garlic bread. Can’t say anything about fourth meal as by the time it arrived we were getting up to leave for theatre. We had asked for manager earlier but she refused to appear and threw chef under the bus by sending him up instead. Waiting staff seemed incredibly stressed - I guess they had seen it all before. If it was possible to give 0 star review would have done. Completely shocking and so bad it almost seemed like a spoof. Someone had better get a grip and quick - if they don’t this is place won’t last long.

Organised a private party with Dan and couldn't have been easier. Great service on the day with pizzas and bar staff to accommodate our party. Thank you again made for a great 30th party

I have only been here twice. The first time we really enjoyed the atmosphere and cocktails. We went here today for a lunch break based on our first experience. We arrived and as expected the guy working the bar was lovely. It’s Xmas and although not too busy, definitely busier than I’d imagine is usual. Based on this we ordered the sharing nachos, advertised as a bar snack. Prior to ordering we asked if the kitchen could accommodate this. We were you that nachos are simple so no issue. Our nachos arrived quickly. Which would usually be impressive. These nachos were essentially soggy nachos with tinned jalapeños and salsa. No cheese at all. Just tortilla chips with salsa. For £6! Outrageous

I've been here a couple of times now and I would highly recommend it. The place itself is nicely decorated, with a warm but somehow vibrant feel without being too much. It's not a huge place but still feels spacious enough. The drinks are good with an ample selection of wines, beers and cocktails to choose from. The food I've eaten here was lovely and the staff are welcoming, friendly and helpful. They also put on live music etc here and am definitely going to check it out again soon.

I had to update my review. Following the change of management and refurbishment, this place was thriving! Since around 1 or 2 months ago, this place has been always closed. So I stopped making plans to go there. Its a shame as it was quite a fun place.

I do not live locally and travelled to Southampton to watch The Lion King at the Mayflower theatre. Due to a RTA on the way, we arrived a lot later than anticipated. We decided to have dinner at The Quater Lounge and we are so glad we did! They were very welcoming! Everything was tidy and well presented. One of the staff members, Tuesday, was aware we were concious of time for the show and she did everything in her power to help us! She went above and beyond and made our trip even more special! Will definatly be returning next time I am near!

I ordered the salmon linguini and received linguini and garlic bread with barely quarter a salmon filet throughout the meal. I said I’d be happy to eat it but not pay the full asking price of just shy of £16 for pasta and a bit of garlic bread that didn’t taste of garlic at all. I could deal with the food but was really disappointed by the “managers” response and the way she dealt with it. I had complained to a junior member of staff who told the manager and she simply carried on doing what she was doing (cleaning the coffee machine) and made no attempt to see me! I was shocked! I approached her in the end and she shunned me and told me she’d take 15% off which I declined and said I’d be happy to pay £12 for the pasta. No courtesy check, no apology, won’t be returning. Staff need some serious customer service training.

Fantastic. We were a group of 15 females looking for somewhere to eat after a show. We spoke to a lovely man (wearing a bandana) absolute gem, got us booked in. That afternoon he looked after us so well (with 2 lovely female waitresses too) the food was lovely really tasty, the actual venue is very clean. We had such a lovely time and the staff were so good to us. If you go see a show I recommend you come here before or after you will not be disappointed.

Exceptionally nice staff. Ready with witty replies to my mates "banter". Drinks are great. Lines are clearly looked after. Food menu is a small and kind of perfect offering. All of the food is grilled or microwaved. Quality off the food as all inclusive hotel. Don’t expect to be served as you wish as most of the personnel have no rights to work in uk and are paid a way under minimum, as I saw everyone was angry and stressed on a quiet day. Seated by 5.45pm and food ordered by 5.50pm. Just shy of an hour later our food arrives. The orders where misplaced or something to that scenario. We were advised by one of the staff members multiple times that ours was just coming but it seems our order hadn't even been started. I ordered a chicken bbq burger and my partner ordered a cheese and bacon burger. Once it finally arrived my chicken was flattened within an inch of its life, this in turn made for a dry chicken pattie. My partners burger had some substantial pink bits that she only realised after eating over half of it. I brought this to the staffs attention and the meal was taken of the bill but no reconciliation regarding the time taken to complete our order in the first place. Staff were very apologetic and sincere but the comment made from the older staff member of the three that were serving the dinners said to another about not showing the kitchen until later didn't settle well with us, I tried my best to join in with the making out that's just what customer service life is like. I felt awkward at all times when I had to ask about our order as only one member of staff made eye contact with the customers except for the specefic table they are interacting with at the time. I was left feeling like a problem customer as I felt like I needed to harass the staff to get any service other than the first interaction of placing our order. We needed to be at the theatre for 7.15pm and ended up rushing ourselves to make the show on time. Some of the staff seemed friendly and interactable but on the whole most seemed. The barman downstairs was pleasant and helpful. I didn't want this to be a bad review as aside from the wait time and below par food we enjoyed our visit but unfortunately the bad outweighed the good for us this time.

So very disappointing the owner was so apologetic and no I won't be returning. Dispite putting on the on line booking I was in a wheelchair we were originally given a table upstairs. There is no accessable entrance , you have to try and manage 6 inches of decking, then the steps to get in the door. Ordered 2 starters and 4 mains at 5.30. Starters came out at 6pm at 6.30 no sign of mains enquired and was told another 15 minutes. Mains arrived at 6.45, was told could have carrots instead of broccoli, but when food came out there was just meat and potatoes. There were peas available, but no one thought to communicate this. Ordered Mozarella and chorizo stuffed chicken, don't know where the mozzarella was it wasn't on my plate. Service was appalling, the woman who brought the food was rude. Was told we were given a 20% reduction, but no receipt was offered, even with the reduction food was not worth the price we paid.

The food here was lovely but what was better was the service from the waitress. She didn’t have a name badge so unsure of her name but she was so pleasant and helpful. We were having lunch before heading onto a cruise from Southampton and my son had a bad cough. He wasn’t well at the restaurant and didn’t make the toilet when coughing. The lovely lady offered to help me clear up but I couldn’t let her do that. She got a mop and kitchen paper and kept offering to do it and reassured me all was ok and she could help. This was stressful for me as we should have been looking forward to holiday but with my son constantly coughing (which everyone is paranoid about these days) and wondering if he’d be ok whilst we boarded the ship the waitress made everything easier and catered to my needs as well as my daughters. She even suggested black current cordial and soda water as they didn’t have vimto which my daughter wanted. She didn’t everything she could to make us happy and enjoy the time there. She’s an asset to this place and if we lived in Southampton we’d be back just for her service alone but in addition the food was great too and reasonably priced especially the kids £6.95 meal deal for a main drink and dessert. I’ve been here on a few occasions since it re-opened as it’s round the corner from where I live and have been there many times before the refurb. It’s been beautifully redecorated and honestly I didn’t know this place could look as good as it does now! Food wise, we waited over an hour but they did have extenuating circumstances at the time so wouldn’t like to say it’s a fair representative of wait time. It was very good and generously sized! The small plates are bigger than you think so err on the side of caution 😅 Other than that, I’ve felt largely uncomfortable at the venue unless sitting outside due to the massive staff to customer ratio. I’m not too sure how they’re profiting in these situations and I have on multiple occasions seen them all sit down to eat food at the same time, taking up a good few tables in-front of the bar. I wouldn’t have minded this too much if any one of these staff members had paid attention to their only two customers however they did not clear down our table for over half an hour and we ended up moving our own plates to an empty table. Ludicrous considering the amount of staff on hand. I understand that this is a brand new re-opening and there will be teething issues but it doesn’t seem like there’s been a focus on quality, especially staff wise, from the get go. It has massive potential though and I hope to give it a more positive review in the near future.

It has been a very long time since I have been here and it was lovely to return. The menu is restricted currently but there is a lovely variety still with the specials included. It was a lovely place to eat and relax before a show. Most of these stars belong to the wonderful Tuesday...what an asset she is to the Gusto Lounge! She really made our evening, thank you
