Gusto Da Gianni in Kingston upon Hull, City of

Having dropped in on the off chance, it felt like I were an inconvenience to the lady who greeted me for service. Asking politely for a free table (which a table was free) but she had to run it past what appears to be her friends sat on the next the next table. The “friends” were dismissive, asked it depends if I were eating. So, having nearly walking away, I eventually sat down, drink and food ordered which was nice. But the service was still, well I felt uncomfortable. Unprofessional in my view

Went for a meal after trying to get a table for ages and it was definitely worth the wait, great quality ingredients resulting in very tasty food indeed, was not the cheapest I think we Paid £125 for a three course meal with a couple of drinks each but was worth it and as soon as lock down is over I will be looking to book again :)

Food was lovely as always, service was impecable but the covid measures impressed us the most having only been out on rare occasions due to covid.temp check and hand gell on arrival, all staff with visors on, guests to wear masks when going to the loo, disposable menus and tables and chairs disinfected between sittings. Extremely well oganised and a delightfull night.

Had a long overdue meal out and the service was excellent, social distancing adhered to, my bring a coeliac was fully catered for and cant fault the food or the service.

For our first evening meal out we choose Gustos, it was excellent. The food and service all five star as we have come to expect. A warm family atmosphere in the socially distanced setting.

This place completely exceed my Mum and I’s expectations. Made to feel welcome as soon as we entered till when we left and the food was unbelievable. We were staying in Hull for the night and this place was so good i just wasn’t doing it justice without leaving a review. True, authentic Italian. Flavours spot on, not bland, just a lovely atmosphere and unreal food. If you want good food in a gorgeous decor setting this is your place. 11/10 and worth every penny

We went to Gustos for our first meal out post lockdown. The service and food were second to none (as usual) and the procedures the team have put in place for COVID-19 made us feel very safe and at ease. We can’t wait for our next visit! 5****** :)

Eaten here multiple times and never once been disappointed. Eaten here with both family and as a couple and it’s perfect for either, the service is brilliant, a great atmosphere and the food exceptional. Specials menu is always worth considering however if not the penne salsicca is my personal favourite. It’s always my first recommendation for hull and can’t wait for it to reopen when it’s safe to do so and lockdown is over.

Recently visited with friends to celebrate a wedding anniversary, the quaint venue provided a lovely authentic Italian meal, reasonably priced, thoroughly enjoyed by all, staff very attentive.

We were visiting dear friends in Hull and we were asked if we would like to eat Italian. As a New Yorker whose family is Italian I was hesitant but from the moment I walked in, I could smell the fresh ingredients coming from the kitchen. The service and food at Gusto Da Gianni were authentic Italia. The pastas and pizzas were incredible and the service was amazing so friendly yet professional! I truly wasn't expecting to be that wowed!

First time at Gusto Da Gianni. Truly amazing from start to finish. Excellent service and amazing food. Very authentic italian, fresh, homemade and delicious. Overall excellent. One of the best italian meals ever.

On emtering this restaurant has a lovely traditional italians ambiance with wooden tables and a rustic feel. Antipasti for 2 for starters which is as you would expect with homemade bread NICE TOUCH. Carbonara for main for me which reminded me of being back on holiday overlooking lake Garda the accompanying garlic bread that we ordered was light and crisp and smothered in garlic butter. Tiramisu for dessert was lovely and airy delicate and creamy all in one, the perfect 'pick me up which beleive me you do not need after eating at this authentic italian. Authentic being the main benefactor considering all the italian rip offs around in this city

If it's Gusto de Gianni in September, it must be the class of '76 art school reunion. I believe this is now 3 years we've been back to Gusto's and trying to choose a restaurant that keep 5 disparate tastes happy is no easy task - except here.

Smallish place, clearly very popular and rapidly got busy, and we did find it a little bit noisy. Food was OK, but we were a bit underwhelmed with it overall. My Mozzarella Caprese starter really needed some olive oil (a bottle of which was though gladly provided on request); my partner's smoked salmon with prawns starter was just an assembly job. My partner's chicken main was somewhat basic and under-seasoned; my fish soup main was nice. Overall we felt it was a bit expensive for what it was. On the positive side, service was very friendly, if a little slow when they got busy, and coffee was really excellent. They also have a very good choice of grappa, if that's your thing!

Another visit to this fine Italian restaurant with friends and excellent food and service once again. The place was very busy with tables taken up as soon as they became available. Thanks for another very enjoyable evening.

I had received some vouchers for my birthday in May and was the fist time we could do a weekend so a phonecall for an early sitting we looked and chose from the menu.garlic mushrooms and pate lovely. Tagliatelle and lasagne with the tomato garlic bread with pesto and potatoes went down well. No room for a sweet but very filling and well presented tasty food. Pitty as it is a fair way to go for us country bumpkins but we'll worth the trip

We visited on a Tuesday evening so we weren't sure if booking was essential but we did book a table anyway, just in case. It was a good job we did because it was very busy considering it was mid-week! The staff that welcomed us were all so friendly and took our coats to a cloakroom for us.

After visiting the restaurant on several occasion and tasting a large scope of the menu, I can honestly say Gusto’s is very VERY good! The staff are brilliant, the food is delicious and fresh. Thanks for doing what you do guys!

Dinner early eve with my husband, 3 children and son in law. Lovely welcome, menu catered for all. Food was freshly cooked to order, well presented and very tasty. It is a little on the expensive side but I don’t mind paying a bit more when it’s as good as this!

This place is without doubt the best in Hull. We go here regularly and every time it is amazing. Great starters, mains and good value.

I’ve recently visited,on recommendation from friends. We ordered from the specials,I had octopus salad,and followed by whole roasted turbot which we thoroughly enjoyed. Lovely candlelit ambience and super service. Will book again soon.

Food just ok so seemed expensive, I dont mind paying for quality but at nearly £50 for 2 pizzas, a small side and 2 wines it wasnt really worth it. The service was also ok but felt ignored at times in favour of regulars.

My wife and I brought our daughter here for diinner to celebrate her graduation. We booked a couple of weeks in advance, as it's a small restaurant and understand that it gets busy.

The food was incredible and the service was fast and very friendly. It was fairly small and a little dark but was worth it for the incredible food!

I can’t believe this was our first visit to this wonderful little restaurant but it certainly won’t be our last . Absolutely loved it , delicious food , great service and nice to see a restaurant catering for couples on romantic meals instead of the usual noisy tables of 8+ which seems the norm now

This is a great find, you could drive past and miss it! (Book first), we needed to book 2 weeks in advance - an encouraging sign! We weren't disappointed, in fact we have visited twice now. Great warm welcome, excellent decor, and little nooks and crannies to place tables (mainly couples) It's quite intimate - no big parties allowed. Service is discrete and well organised. Food choice is vast, and cooking quality the best we have had for a while. Good wine choice of Italian favorites, but I recommend the house red (Primitivo - smooth and stylish) All for a very reasonable price, It must be Hull's best Italian? Wife wants us to book again, soon!

Every member of staff was really friendly and helpful, they went out of their way to find a table for us on a busy Friday night. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced. Will definitely be returning.

I can only rave about this lovely Italian restaurant. The food was to die for. It is quite small but great ambience and the staff are extremely friendly and efficient. I can't believe that it is the first time I have been here and it certainly won't be the last. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

We have visited the restaurant as a family many times and it has never disappointed! The food is always excellent, with great variety in the menu. The pizzas are really tasty and authentic and the meat is always tender. Service is always great and the ambience of the restaurant is perfect. We all love the Italian potatoes and would recommend this restaurant to anyone.

First visit here, this is a favourite with my sisters Gem and Kate.. we were not disappointed at all. Lovely ambiance, very attentive staff and lovely owners. Food was excellent I cannot fault them at all. Had bruschetta to start, fillet steak stroganoff.

Our booking for 20 people on a Saturday night was handled brilliantly by The Gusto team. The food, service and ambiance was perfect. We we had an anti-pasta platter starter with calamari rings which were amazing and shin of beef ragu, stroganoff, melanza parmigiana and the best calzone pizzas I’ve ever tasted for mains. We can’t thank you enough for making it a birthday to remember. Our favourite restaurant in Hull by far. Already planning our next visit.

We visited this restaurant last week after hearing all of the good reviews. We were not disappointed with the food , it was lovely . Hot and fresh and the service was very good .

Recommended by a friend. An early evening meal arriving just after six. The place soon filled up - atmosphere lively without being too noisy. Friendly reception from staff. Reasonably priced food, which was well presented and very tasty. Would certainly repeat.

I had found a place with a very good pizza dough, but needed to improve thickness and topping.

This is my first time in the restaurant as I am house hunting in the area and it won't be my last. Five of us had excellent food, wine and service. To be honest I nearly gave it a 4 instead of a 5 rating as my seafood starter was slightly overdone. Overall it would have been churlish of me for the sake of 30 seconds to much in the fryer. Would highly recommend.

We made our first recommended visit for a husband and wife date nite.

An unassuming place on Newland Ave. Starter of Frito Misto was large and first class, fresh and tasty. Main of Spaghetti Scoglio was equally large and equally good, with big juicy prawns, mussels, clams and calamari. Wine was delicious (White and red). Service excellent, and well-priced. My only criticism is that I ordered a pint of Moretti. It came in a stemmed glass and not only was it a long way from full, it was also clearly not a pint glass. I queried it but was told it was a pint, but I can tell you it wasn’t. I didn’t let it spoil the meal.

Thrilled to find this gem in Hull as we have had trouble finding great places to dine while visiting family in the area. Everything that we ordered that evening was amazing! The best part is two family members agreed it was the best Lasagne they have ever tasted aside from a homemade dish by 'Oma'. Now it has become the only place to dine for special occasions for our family that live in Hull. We look forward to having meals here again when we return to Hull in November. The restaurant is cosy, I would suggest reservations for bigger groups. I still crave the food from here. The best meal in Hull for me!

We booked to eat here with our daughter based on the reviews and were not disappointed. All the food was delicious and all the staff were friendly and attentive throughout our meal. We will certainly be back when we are next in Hull!

Really cannot fault this lovely Italian restaurant. Great decor and ambience. The food is delicious. We have visited before with friends and the whole experience is one to savour.

Visited last night for a birthday meal. There were seven of us and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. I had the seafood pasta which was outstanding. This is the only restaurant I order pasta from. I find that in other places there is too much too pasta, not enough sauce and it doesn't blend. Whereas at Gusto it's perfect, just enough of everything, you don't leave feeling bloated as though you've been filled up on the pasta itself and nothing else. We all had something different, the Gusto (white) pizza looked great, as well as the risotto. Service is always great. Lovely place would 100% recommend.

We booked as been before , 3 males, one friend is vegan who was looked after with respect to his beliefs, the other 2 of us had spicy garlic tomato bread, it was thin crispy be able to be picked up in a single piece, well balanced. My non vegan friend asked for a spicy tomato sauce like a commanly known volcano sauce but it was that but better with red peppers in to make it unique, it was done bespoke and there is not many restaurants go out of the way to do that. I had stuffed ravioli with crab / prawn and dressed with a fresh seafood bisque with king prawns and atlantic salad prawns dropped in at the end . it was perfect. I can’t express the quality of this restaurant . That’s why i’ve put it into words.

This little restaurant is most romantic and an ideal dating spot. All the food is cooked freshly to order, meaning there is a slight wait for probably the best Italian I’ve ever eaten. Due to traffic we were 10mins late for our booking. We were 15mins waiting to order then an extremely long wait for food, the food came and was edible, but not the best Italian I have ever had.

Good taste and quality of the pizza. Real italian cookers in the kitchen! I really enjoyed the location as well, full of italian culinary references! Lovely evening.

We love going to Gusto Da Gianni on Newland Avenue. You always get a warm welcome. The atmosphere is great. The food is excellent. You get what you pay for... well worth a visit..

I visited with a friend for the first time and have to say, the food was top draw. Bre was our waitress, friendly and helpful. My friend and I were in the smoking area and an elderly lady turned up saying she had a hair appointment booked in at 9 (this was in the evening, and she clearly believed it was morning time - showing signs of dementia). We rang 101 to report this and get the lady some help. The manager, Alex, was so helpful and understanding. He took us to a larger table with the lady to sit and wait with her to be taken home, offered to make her a cuppa and even tried to contact the lady’s hairdresser to try and get hold of a family member for her. He made sure our food wasn’t started until we were free, and very kindly gave me a beer on the house as a goodwill gesture for helping the lady! Really helpful and patient. Our food was just stunning, cannot recommend this place enough! Great atmosphere, helpful and pleasant staff and fantastic food!!

This is a superb restaurant run by guys who really know their stuff. The ambience is great, service attentive and friendly but the food is awesome. Went for starter, small pasta dish, main and dessert, how could you not. Washed down with some very nice wine, this is my annual go to choice for an annual old boys get together. Everyone leaves happy. My thanks to the staff and the chefs, I’m already looking for an excuse to come back

We went for my daughters 21st based on her previous visits, what a great choice. The restaurant is really quirky with a great feel to it, staff were fantastic and the main event being the food was joy, every body lover the pizza, calzone, pasta dishes and the starters are delicious. The bar has a great choice of quality drinks, our food order was taken promptly and the food arrived in a timely fashion. This restaurant is a real gem and well worth a visit.

Me and my boyfriend visited tonight for my birthday after a recommendation from a friend as we live out of town. From the minute we entered we were made to feel relaxed and at ease. The restaurant itself is very stylish and definately has an authentic Italian feel. We could not fault the food and I am quite fussy we will definately be returning! Thank you for your hospitality.

Firstly I cannot quite believe I live near enough to the ace little restaurant to visit regularly! Whether it’s “ I forgot to defrost the ingredients for tea plate”or a celebration meal this restaurant always delivers. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and professional. The ambience is great with a relaxed vibe. If you are local and have never eaten here or visiting kids studying close by give it a go...it’s fab!

We visited here with some friends for a belated birthday celebration. Arrived a touch early but no problems, our table was ready for us. Very friendly and professional staff, also informative and helpful in making our choices from the menu. Only difficulty was choosing what to have as it all sounded great! I had garlic mushrooms to start with, which were excellent, followed by risotto with Italian sausage , again really good. My partner started with mozzarella salad, and then the vegetarian risotto. Can’t honestly remember what our friends ordered, but they were all very impressed too. There was a good wine list to choose from, and the desserts were excellent. Lovely vibe and staff made it a great evening for us all, many thanks! Can’t wait to return.

Although we are from Derbyshire, Gusto is without doubt our favourite Italian Restaurant and we visit as often as we can, even though this inevitably means including a Hotel for the night.

From my first visit to the one last night (28/07/2018) I continue to be blown away by the sheer overall quality....the staff, the cooking, the ingredients, the setting.

Rustic atmosphere, friendly staff and speedy service. All this and GOOD FOOD too, six of us all had a really excellent experience with our meals. Will deffinately go again and again.

We were visiting friends in Hull and they took us to Gusto Da Gianni. We had such a good time; a warm friendly welcome, fabulous Aperol Spritzers! and delicious authentic Italian food served with a smile. We wish we lived closer, thank you guys

They were plenty of my favourite pasta dishes on the menu. 7 of us attended for a birthday celebration, a banner was put up for us. Everybody enjoyed their food. I had tomato and pesto garlic bread to start with a prawn pasta for main. It was delicious. Very impressed, will be definitely going again.

Well the food here is sublime! The past was super & the bolognaise was the best i have ever tasted. To top this off the prices are fair & the staff are very attentive. We will be back..........soon Simply gorgeous food.

We love this restaurant. Everything about it is perfect. The only problem is parking your car. The area is so popular so be prepared to park some distance away and walk. Its a good excuse for ordering the Tiramisu!

Their Grandmas homemade bolognese/ragu is exquisite. We've tasted this dish all over the world, and this is in our top 5 for sure!

Comfortable eating bit cramped for a business meal but fine for social after business. Sea food was excellent.

What a lovely experience at the small Italian restaurant, Gusto Da Gianni, a very quaint establishment that oozed charm. I will say that the restaurant was quite full but it had bags of atmosphere and the food was superb.

I have visited this restaurant many times and each time I have received a very high level of service and food. The staff are professional, friendly and cannot do enough for you. The atmosphere is calm and enjoyable in a little authentic style room. I have worked in Italy and can tell you that Italians themselves would approve of the food here! It is fresh, delicious and tastes exactly like it does in Italy! One of the best restaurants in Hull. It continues to be a favorite of mine. I would recommend to everyone.

Booked a table and when we turned up sadly no trace, however we were offered a table as long as they could have it back after an hour. We thought that mistakes happen and accepted, however, they investigated why the booking had failed and it turned out after considerable digging that my booking was under Morris not Wallis. All credit to them for taking the time to sort it out.
