We usually pop in Gusto if we’re out and about in Shaftesbury. We love the cosy atmosphere there. The coffee is lovely. The paninis, sandwiches and cakes have generous fillings and always served with a nice little side salad. The staff are always attentive and efficient. Gusto is highly recommended by us.

What was intended to be a one off visit to Gustos 3 years ago has become a weekly habit. The coffee, the food and service is getting better (if possible) every time.We admire the patience of Russell and his team towards their customers which is always impeccable. Many other establishments could learn from it in Shaftesbury, We should know what we are talking about having been in the hotel and restaurant business ourselves for many years! We wish them well and long may they continue at Gustos.

My husband and I stopped here for some breakfast whilst we were en route to Devon. We were more than welcome to enjoy breakfast outside with our puppy. My husband had a delicious cooked breakfast and I had eggs and bacon on toast, I couldn't fault it.

We love it here the coffee selection is good. You can be sure of a decent cup of coffee. If you like hot chocolate then its delicious. A good selection of light bites etc. The staff are lovely here always helpful. The lighting could be better. The table and chairs are not that comfortable. But still worth a quick visit. A tip on where to sit the cafe is long and narrow sit as far away from the toilet as possible as it does smell especially if you are sat at the table near it!

Always come here when I am down in Shaftesbury to visit my girlfriend - the coffee is really nice and the gingerbread latte they do is especially nice! Have also had the cakes a few times when I have been in (and failed to stop the temptation) and they are absolutely lovely as well!! All round a great place - next thing is to try the sandwiches

We looked at a couple of coffee shops and just walked on. The first thing we noticed at Gusto was the smell of fresh coffee which drew us in. We were welcomed as we entered with a cheery good morning by both people behind the counter. We ordered sat down and the food and drinks arrived promptly. Simple and no questions. We went back for lunch. Again straight forward cheerful service

Very cold wet day and so we needed a warm drink and slice of cake. The first cafe we tried couldn't accommodate our dairy-free requirements and so we warily tried "Gusto". We received a friendly welcome and were assured that soya milk was in supply and drinks would be made on request. The hot chocolate that was served as a result was perfect and went down a treat. The gentleman behind the counter was again swift and efficient in sorting out which cakes were dairy and nut free. There was only one option available (apple and date flapjack) but it was delicious and well received.

Whilst meeting a family member in Shaftesbury, we popped in just for a coffee. We had the coffee which was promptly served in a pleasant manner, and then left, having noticed the attractive display of paninis and cakes. An hour later, when we were thinking about somewhere for lunch, we decided to return. We ordered 2 jacket potatoes and a panini, followed by cakes all round. The food was very good, and very tasty and the cakes were also excellent. Definitely somewhere to return to, next time we are in Shaftesbury!

I hadn’t been here for ages but was passing fairly early on Saturday morning and decided to pop in for a cup of tea. The display cabinet looked amazing, very festive and full of delicious and fresh choices. The cakes looked amazing and the choice of panini fillings looked lovely. I’d only wanted a cup of tea but had a pice of toasted panettone too and enjoyed both.

I visited Gusto with my husband on Saturday afternoon. We placed a simple order of one baguette, one toastie and two teas (one decaffeinated) but my husband was told that his filling (brie and bacon) only came in a toastie format (why?), even though it was listed as a baguette in the window. My husband pointed this out but the waitress insisted that he couldn’t have that filling in a baguette. Eventually another waitress came over to explain that there were no baguettes left; I’m not sure if the first waitress knew that or if she was being difficult about my husband’s choice. Anyway, my husband said that a toastie would be fine, but the waitress failed to write it down, even though my husband asked her if she was clear on the order, because she didn’t look sure. Anyway, the tea arrived, as did my toastie, with my husband’s food order entirely forgotten. At this point I noticed the colour of the tea, which was completely stewed and resembled strong tomato soup. I couldn’t help exclaiming that it looked vile, which it did and looked totally undrinkable. The man who had brought the toastie (I think he may have been the chef) demanded “what did you just say?” in an aggressive manner. I had no choice but to answer defensively that it was way too strong and was undrinkable, even though my comment was not directed at him in the first place. He wanted to know if I wanted more milk, but that would have not solved the situation; the tea would still have been stewed, but cold as well! I said that I wanted fresh tea (I don’t think they had remembered my choice of decaffeinated either) and exclaimed again that I couldn’t drink it as the colour was vile. At this point the man demanded to know if I wanted the toastie (“do you even want this?”) but then changed his mind, took it away and aggressively said “I’d like you to leave please”. My husband and I were more than happy to do so, wishing we had never gone there in the first place! Before I left, I accused him of being rude and advised him that I would be commenting on Tripadvisor. He then went around to other customers, in the style of Basil Fawlty, asking them if they thought he had been rude. I’m sure they wouldn’t have dared say so, or they could have been kicked out too! So, in short, there are a lot of good comments about the establishment on Tripadvisor, but this was not my experience and I would not recommend them. In fact, having read all the good reviews, I cannot equate them with our experience at all. The service and lack of comprehension for our order were poor, the tea was stewed and the appalling behaviour of the chef(?) was unprofessional, intimidating and inappropriate. Good luck to anyone in future who wishes to complain. I don’t know if the chef was the owner of the business; if he is, then he needs to take a long, hard look at his customer service (and tea making) skills. If he isn’t, then the owner needs to have strong words with him about his behaviour. Probably as strong as our tea!

Popped into this café for a coffee stop during the afternoon. I had previously visited maybe a year or two ago but the inside was not as I remembered it. It turns out there has been a new owner hence the changes. Whilst I didn’t eat this time, looking at what’s on offer, I will be back. Oh, and the coffee was great btw.

A great cafe, busy in the morning with breakfast and coffees etc. Clearly well liked by the locals and visitors alike. We travelled almost 20 miles to have a lovely fresh breakfast here. The decor is fun especially the cruet - you need to visit to see! The staff were helpful and the service good. I recommend it and we will go again.

Eye wateringly expensive if you need to buy something to take home for lunch. 3 slices of quiche £22.50. Only 50p each less than having it heated on a plate with salad. Arrrgh.

Popped in for a coffee and some cake - lovely but wouldn’t necessarily come again for elevenses. The cakes were good but quite a small/basic selection which has never changed, one of us ordered a pain au chocolat which came very overdone, and the vanilla latte I ordered came in a cappuccino cup and was small and extremely sweet as a result! Savoury food has a better selection so I’d recommend it as a lunch spot. Service was great (very welcoming to a small child and baby in pushchair which was lovely) and very prompt!
