This place has just amazing food! I had one of their signature dishes, and it was worth a try. Sorry to say, but if I didn't read about it on Tripadvisor up front, I would definately passed by. But despite an anonymous front, they mantain a good atmosphere inside. So close to the busy Royal Mile, still the friendly staff manage to create a relaxed experience.

Delicious food, best naan ever, light and non greasy. Great selection of vegetarian options. Staff were very friendly.

Delicious food, beautifully presented and graciously served. The waiters were very attentive and friendly and everything came promptly. The chef came out with a complementary appetiser at the start of the meal and again to check we were enjoying the food half way through. Which we were! We were served complementary refreshing orange slice and spiced tea at the end of our meal. It is very rare to be given things for free these days so this was much appreciated. Highly recommend!

Perfect small hideout from the busy streets to get a lip smacking delicious home style Indian / Nepali food. The staff were really friendly and accomodating. Would definitely recommend to try it out whenever in the area.

I have been visiting this restaurant for about 5 years. Both the Nepalese and Indian food are very well cooked and properly seasoned . My favourites are the Momos and the Fish Curry . The food tastes much nicer than the harsh westernised Bangladeshi food found in many other "indian" restaurants. The staff are very friendly and well mannered . The restaurant has a nice calm authentic atmosphere and is very handy for the Waverley Station .- Give the place a visit , you won't be disappointed

We were a group of 22 hungry people who were served very very well. Food was excellent and staff were very friendly. All food serverd to us had a genuine Nepalese taste which is difficult to find in most of other Nepalese restaurants. I am a very satisfied and happy customer. Will surely visit the restaurant again.

Literally just put the fork down. The best Indian I have ever had. Peshawari naan was great but tried garlic for the first time and both were exceptional.

We made a last-minute booking and were pleasantly surprised by the experience. We asked the staff to make a dish called poleko bhale with panner instead of the usual ingredients, and it turned out to be incredibly tasty. The service was excellent, and the staff, particularly a cheerful and humorous girl named Nuja (we think), made us feel very welcome. We hope to visit this place again when we return to Edinburgh.

Really enjoyed our meal at the Gurkha cafe, I loved that they had a lot of different things on the menu so we went with nothing we knew for a change, really lovely flavours, quick service and friendly staff, great choice of food !

Service was great, value for money as usual brill, We were there for my birthday and had a great meal, prices were great portion sizes massive even the drinks are reasonably priced, and, if they know its a special occasion, you get a surprise st the end of the meal. Would recommend to everybody

An amazing stop for some great Indian and Nepalese food. We ended up ordering their chicken momo's again as soon as we got ours. They have an authentic Nepalese chef. They make food fresh, loved the customer service and the food obviously tastes amazing!

Good food but poor service. Uninterested staff who certainly did not make us feel like valued customers. The restaurant also needed a good clean. We had been before but wont go back. As a dining experience, it wasn't good.

An unassuming little restaurant just around corner from Waverley station and Princes St Gardens. The best and most authentic Indian/Nepalese fare we have had in the UK and we don’t say that lightly! Pakoras crispy and beautifully fragrant. The garlic naan and pilau rice homemade and it showed!! My paneer/veg dish was cooked to perfection the delicate and subtle flavours were outstanding. The lamb madras curry was fantastic.All washed down with Everest draft beer! Staff were friendly and I would highly recommend a visit . We will definitely be back.

Not a flash establishment, wouldn’t have looked out of place in Brick Lane or Bradford. The food was wonderful, cannot recommend highly enough. The chicken dish we ordered for the Nepalese section was as good as I’ve had. Reasonably priced, great location, would definitely go again.

I enjoy Indian and Nepalese food and the Gurkha provides some of the best Indian food I have eaten. The service is excellent, the staff are friendly. What more could you ask for.

This was our second visit to the Gurkha and once again the food and service were excellent. We had the Poppadoms with the pickle tray to start followed by a vegetable Biriyani for my wife and I had the chicken Poleko Bhale Kukhura. Accompanying this was a pint of Everest lager, a keema naan and a spritzer - all served with a smile and no fuss. This cost us around £60 (including tip) and was worth every penny. I'd suggest booking for the weekends especially if you want an outside table.

Wasn’t the cleanest place. The wall beside our table looked like it hadn’t been wiped with a cloth in a long time. Toilet wasn’t clean. Drinks took a while, food took an absolute eternity to arrive. I had the gurka chicken special and it did not have much taste to it at all and I was disappointed, all for a much higher price than any Indian restaurant I’ve ever been to.

Wonderful food. Excellent portions and reasonably priced. However the service was slow and our meal didn't arrive for 50 minutes. This wasn't helped by one of our dishes having to be made again (we're not sure what happened but according to the waiter something went wrong in the kitchen). It was a shame as this took the edge off the meal after what had been long day for us. However I would certainly return for the quality of food.

Been going here over several years but on the strength of yesterday's visit won't be going again. A starter of 2 King prawns with 1 chunk of pineapple was overpriced and undersized at £9. My main of lamb khutta had a really nice sauce but the leg of lamb was undercooked by about 30 mins, so tough rather than falling off the bone. Poor service too, got the impression they rely on one-off tourists rather than regulars. Really disappointing.

Absolutely divine authentic Nepalese food. Hats off, great service too. Highly recommended for indian too but the spices are pure Nepal, thank you so much for a wonderful meal

The first time we ate here we had Chicken Korma which is served mild. This pleased my wife as she can't take the heat. We tried the apricot naan. It was very good. We spied a good looking dish at another table called Lamb Khutta, so we came back later that week to try it but alas there was none to be had.

I took king prawn tandoori with the 'special sauce' . The special sauce was a real disappointment - tasted like tomato passata. I should say my fellow dinners were happy with their choices and the service was good but this 'special sauce' should be avoided
