Undoubtedly, this restaurant serves the most authentic Chinese cuisine in Middlesbrough. However, if you crave chop suey or house specials, this might not be the ideal place for you, as they specialize in more traditional Chinese dishes. They also have a standard English takeout menu, for delivery, but its only ok. However the sit in menu is extensive, featuring various unique dishes such as beef aorta, jellyfish, offal, and chicken feet. During my visit, I ordered the Mongolian lamb, and my partner opted for the braised tofu dish. Both dishes were exceptional.

Do not order from here, evening gazette has everything you need to know. Absolutely vile. I cant even express how horrendous this place is.

So I ordered a munch box and it took 1 hour and 30 minutes to arrive. On arrival the box has fell to bits because of the grease. I begin to eat with my partner and I can honestly say it has been the worst meal I’ve ever ever had absolutely rotten. The food is way over cooked the ribs are drier than the Sahara desert the chicken it greasy way over fried the food seems like its a week old we spent £28 for it to go in the bin if I were you I wouldn’t waste your money here it needs closing down.

We used to regularly go to Guli for lunch with my Teesside University course mates and friends, as this restaurant is located only about 100 metres from the uni campus. Guli just reopened after the 2020 lockdown, so it was great to pop in for dinner and some authentic Chinese tea. The food has always been top notch here, and my Chinese course mates said that most of the items on the menu are actually an authentic Chinese food, not the Westernised versions found in some other restaurants. Definitely worth a visit when you're near Middlesbrough's town centre (Linthorpe Road area.)

Not a usual Chinese take away that you found in your local area. It is not as perfect as restaurants in Newcastle china town but one of the few places you can find authentic Chinese food found in Middlesborough.

I go here at least once a week. Me and my husband both work in China and crave the food we have over there. This hits the spot. We know what time they eat (this place fills up with Chinese students) so we try and go before they arrive. My family love the hotpot which is like a fondue, cooking your own ingredients in two types of stock, bowls of dips to flavour. Personally I prefer to be cooked for. The frogs legs are amazing, the Chinese version of shredded potatoes in chilli also 👍. All the noodle soups are 100% superior to Wagamama etc. Last meal was fish soup with pickled cabbage. As you can see this is proper food. The takeaways are generally Cantonese- too sweet and bland for me and adapted to European tastes. Guli gets 👍👍👍👍👍 from us.

Hands down my favourite Chinese restaurant/takeaway in Teesside. As an international student this place has the best and most authentic comfort food that tastes just like home. I come here to celebrate good news, birthdays, bad news and on rainy days when I'm craving a comforting warm noodle soup. The hotpot tastes just like one of those high end ones in bigger cities, and the new 'all you can eat' selection is a good addition to the menu. However service isn't the greatest, there is a language barrier but there's always a lovely lady behind the till who comes to help with communication. and she always makes sure everything is going smooth. Space is limited though so if coming with a big party calling beforehand is not necessary but ideal. All in all would recommend if you're looking for authentic chinese cuisine.

I ordered takeout twice from this restaurant and both times I was very impressed. The clear noodles, the tom yum soup and a chow mein type of dish that I asked for :)) all tasted fresh and spicy. I genuinely had a moment when I thought to myself: oh, so that's why they mix all these things together :)). While I was waiting for my food I noticed many asian students eating there so I'm sure it's close to the real deal.

A response to Dorothy H. Firstly I should humbly and honestly confess my comments are very possibly biased - as I am the owner's fiancee. However, I have asked her about that day and would like to clarify a few things if I may as this is a true Chinese restaurant and they can't defend or explain very well. "No wait staff": that is something to be marked down for, agreed. Unfortunate timing, as it was a rare short-staffed day and the owner was trying to do it all at once. She apologises. Possibly every work-day you have is awesome. Well, lucky you. The "waitress" was the owner, who felt bad about you being left with non-English speakers and was very attentive when she managed to scramble back from a delivery. Or as you said "friendly enough". Being a truly authentic Chinese restaurant (i.e. no sweet n sour chicken balls here...), the only member of staff with good English was the owner. Of course, you understand this, yes? The order in which your dishes arrived was not acceptable, I agree. Again she apologises profusely. Now then, your issues with the food...exemplified by your remark "The menu is very weird, you can have fried jellyfish". If you came often and look at the typical clientele, you should find that the vast majority are Chinese. That should indicate to a logical person that the cuisine is authentic beyond that which is typically available in the UK. I understand you may be used to "Chinese" food which has been heavily Westernised to suit Western tastes, which is fine as businesses need to make money and therefore should cater to the clientele's tastes. However, you appear to be someone who has unfortunately wandered into an ACTUAL Chinese restaurant with Western expectations. That is unfortunate. Upshot is: until you have left the village, it is not appropriate to criticise the world.

I went for lunch with a friend last week. When we arrived there were no wait staff, just someone washing dishes in the kitchen who ignored us. We managed to get his attention and had to explain that we wanted to order food. 20 minutes later a waitress arrived at the café and took our order. I ordered a Japanese-style chicken curry (the menu is very weird, you can have fried jellyfish if you fancy it), my friend and I both ordered fried dumplings to start. My main arrived 7-8 minutes before my friends' and the starters arrived 10 minutes after that. The curry was the worst I have ever tasted. The chicken was complete mush, the sauce unlike anything Japanese-style and the rice was like nothing I have ever tasted before, or ever want to taste again. I left mine almost untouched. The dumplings were horrible, dried up wrappers and indescribable mushy filling (and not too much of that either, not that you would want more). It was not value for money, the waitress was friendly enough, but nothing could make up for the disgusting food. Obviously, won't be returning.

Disgraceful, left waiting for nearly 2 hours for it to say delivered at 13.40 when it's actually currently 13.17 as I write this! Can't really comment on quality as it's not actually arrived at all

Love this place, but they changed the menu. It's so oily now, my stomach hates me after my meal. You don't get anywhere near as much in hot pots anymore and it is as I said oily, very oily. I really hope they go back to the old menu, it was delicious.

Worst Chinese I have ever ordered, the only take away I’ve put straight in the bin. Salt and pepper chicken wasn’t sealed it was in a half opened paper/card container, and was actually cold, it was just plain cold chicken and black onions. No hot bag from the driver, wrong can delivered, hard cold rice. Never again.
