Great atmosphere , service was pretty lovely and quick the ladies are getting waisted there they was lovely , however the food was mediocre, had the the works breakfast and it just wasn’t it , burnt black toast , mushrooms undercooked , hash browns was bitter , sausages had no taste and barley any colour to them , my friend found a thick beard or moustache hair in her beans ,the bubble squeak had no flavour to it at all , however the milkshakes are pretty nice 👍

Me and my partner are regulars here, the food is amazing (breakfast and lunch/dinners). The staff are always so welcoming and friendly. The food itself is such good value for money, good portion sizes, full of flavour. We’ve not had a bad experience yet!

Paid £16 for a small bowl of nachos with chilli (barely any there ) paid for extra nacho cheese and mushrooms . There was only a few nachos . I wondered why there was no customers in there on a Friday afternoon . I mean if your paying £16 for a 1 person nachos and you barely get any I can see why . I used to love this place but will definitely NOT go back there again !

Went in for my birthday's dinner yesterday. Absolutely amazing, Kerry was amazing. The food was great with great selection of safe gluten free options. Thank you for the great experience. We will back very soon

Took my daughter for lunch and milkshakes and we loved it. The food was tasty and staff were polite and attentive (albeit a tad slow). Will definitely come back soon!

It's American diner. the food is ok, I just haven't had that oh that was lovely thought in my visits.(2)has all that American diner atmosphere. But for me there are better cafes around. Never been for dinner so only leaving review after having breakfast.

Hired the venue for a private 60th birthday party - 50’s/60’s night. Fantastic host, fantastic bufffet. Everyone had a fantastic time - thank you so much x

If I could give any more stars, I would! Kerry our server was delight from the moment she seated us. Nothing was too much trouble even letting me order off menu. She was interactive with my six-year-old daughter providing her with colouring sheet and nothing was too much trouble. I wish I was lived closer as we would be regular customers without a doubt. And the food was cooked fresh, it was hot and absolutely delicious.

Our family love Grumpy’s the staff are so lovely and really look after us - especially the children. I love it that their breakfast menu is on until 4pm - so today while everyone had lunch I had my very favourite salmon and eggs. The lovely waitress knew how much I loved this dish and after not being on the menu for a while, she gave me the nod that it was back. It was lovely. My husband had the half rack of ribs and my grand daughter loves pancakes and fruit whilst her brother liked the hotdog and curly fries. There really is something for everyone. Also as it is near Christmas there was a hunt the naughty elves game for the children to add to the word searches and colouring that is always available. We had a really chilled out and enjoyable lunch. Thank you Grumpy’s (and for bringing back the salmon)

Been here many times as it's a stones throw from cliffs pavilion and we always double up a show with a meal here For a venue that makes such an effort with it's decor and has such a fun feel it's always been quite quiet which surprises me. Chicken strip burger was lovely and there burgers taste like a real authentic burger should (unlike many well known fast food joints, cough cough) make sure you have a milkshake here, never one that competes, my only negative is that you have to add components on to your burger and I like to keep it simple, keep them all on and say if you want anything taken off. Always used to be the way I'm sure. Margaritas are good as well!

Another great lunch at Grumpys. They've really made an effort with the Halloween theme with fun activities for the kids. My son had the witches pancakes! Would reccomend!

Have been here quite a few times and return because we really like the food and the quirky decor. More expensive than McDonald's, etc. but the quality and size of the portions far superior. Always surprised that there are not more customers.

Fantastic food, great value for the portion sizes. And you can get a beer with your lunch!! Indie made us feel so welcome, was friendly, funny and just perfect with her service. Couldn't have done anything better!

Went to Grumpy’s Diner today with my wife and son. Fantastic service by Kerry and Lily who were very attentive and friendly. Excellent portion sizes for both adults and kids at a good price. Food was really great can’t fault it

We attended one of their special events with the Knightingales. Great, friendly place, food was very good and a brilliant atmosphere. Staff were efficient and friendly. Overall, it was a great night out.

Spent a lovely evening here, while being entertained with live music from The Knightingales, who were excellent . A great venue and the food we ordered was excellent. Had BBQ rack of ribs, they just fell off the bone, cooked to perfection. Decor was very well done, as an American Diner. Happy staff and a very nice atmosphere. Definitely recommend.

Food was cooked perfectly and the portions were exceptionally large , should have more veg and salad options on the menu. The staff are extremely efficient and friendly.

Great food as always and came sooner than expected

Build your own burgers are great and the curly fries are yummy and a really good portion size. The packaging was also plastic free. We have used before and will use again.

Don't bother going here I ordered a 10 0z rump it was tiny and got about five chips my daughter also had half a chicken it was as dry as any thing what a waste of 60 pound

Had a very good meal, great service.

Went in tonight (thurs) at about 5 30 - 6 pm. Not many eating so atmosphere only 3 tho I'm sure if it's busier that rating would have been higher. We were served by indie who's personality made it easy to relax and feel welcome. Nothing was to much trouble and we never felt rushed. Food was good although there was only rump/sirloin steaks ( other items obviously available ) but I really wanted rib eye to be honest. I know that the menu should be good food at affordable prices ( which it was ) before anyone gets upset but I really fancied it. Sal had jacket tatty which she also enjoyed. All in all a good experience with some 60's tunes just loud enough so that you never had to shout.

Grumpys is our go to diner at least 3 or 4 times a month. The food is exceptionally good, the Vegan options are fantastic, pancakes with berry compote and biscoff waffles to name but a few, plus a good vegan full English. Also the cocktails are 😋! Kerry and her staff are amazing, can't do enough for you. Thank you 😊

We visited here five years ago and I'm sad to say the quality of food has deteriorated since. I ordered a cheese burger (I don't remember there being a complicated menu to personalise it when we visited before? But it did feel like a con that you have to pay extra to add toppings which should be available as standard). My burger meat wasn't that nice and ruined the meal. The chios were OK if a little overcooked. We ordered pints of Coke zero only to be told they sell these in bottles. A bit of a con and not expected when most other diners do free refills. The restaurant wasnt overly busy and it just made things feel more awkward. The shakes were nice though and the facilities were clean.

The food was good although it was very poorly presented which made it a very lackluster experience. Whoever dished it up clearly takes no pride in their work.

Great food, good price and friendly staff

First time here at grumpys. We don’t live in Southend we only come down 2 or 3 times a year. We normally go to the usual places but I must say we liked it here and will definitely come back.

My partner and I came here for dessert and breakfast and let me tell you the customer service was outstanding I couldnt find one thing to complain about even if tried. The atmosphere with the live band, the dancing, the music and the people was amazing. We pressed the waffle with ice cream and berries and I’ll tell you what the sweetness with the ice cream, the syrup and the crispy waffles was absoloutely incredible. My partner got the banana split and that was just as good. For Brekky I ordered the eggs Benny and it was for sure worth the wait, the sauce, the eggs, the bacon was by far the best. Had that Smokey smell and taste to it and just completely made the whole me. I will definitely be coming here next time I’m around the place I loved it so much and the owner is by far a geniune guy and will always look after You. I had a blast!

Waitress was friendly and helpful. Didn't have to wait too long for service and food was out quite quickly. Everything was tasty but it was a fairly pricey for lunch.

Last time I came her was about 5 years ago and I had been really impressed with the range of interesting sauces that were freely on offer to customers. Sadly this is no longer the case. The waitress struggled to find me ketchup on this visit. To add insult to injury they got my order wrong. I can see why this time I was the only customer in, if they have gone this downhill

Always a pleasure with hard working, friendly, attentive staff and great food. It was breakfast today for my usual mini works and my partner tried the American works which is pancakes and stuff. We needed it. Two coffees later and a white twix milkshake each sorted is right out. Will always recommend this place for any meal of the day.

Been here a few times before but not for breakfast so off we went for pancakes, we arrived and was seated very quickly our server was a nice girl called Indie she quickly gave us the milkshake specials one of which I order which was very nice Indeed Our breakfast was at our table in good time and was very nice all cooked really well Will be back again for lunch next time :) .

In Southend for a show at the Cliffs Pavillion, both of us fancied Shakes and Burgers. 25min walk from the city centre, the venue was easy to find. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Decor was typical American 50s diner, clean and smart. Started with Ice cream shakes, that were FANTASTIC!! I had ‘boost chocolate bar’ shake, my wife had a chocolate shake. Really proper shakes (far superior to the McD rubbish) for mains I had a double burger with cheese,bacon, fried onions hot sauce with fries. My wife had a chicken strip burger with excellent sweet potato fries. We shared a side of coleslaw and onion rings (the only slight disappointment, as they weren’t homemade) both burgers were really tasty! Well cooked and generously sized. Bill came to £56 inc tip which I think was great value. Definitely visit again!!

I got two of the philly subs to takeaway today, the onions were flavourless. The bread was soggy. The steak was unseasoned and the two bits of burger cheese thrown on top hadn’t been melted and were cold! I was expecting thick, hot, Philly cheese poured over my nice steak sub but alas it was not to be!! Please do better! £22 later and we still hungry and our tastebuds are unsatisfied! however the waitress was very sweet :)

Always use grumpys for family gatherings Kids can get up and move about with no issues. Service is great food is great Best thing of all they seat you altogether not scattered like most places because they can’t be bothered to move a table. Had a fab night last night 17 of us and food arrived all together. Will be back

Been here twice since my last review, full English breakfast and a build your own burger. Always a treat at a decent price and always grand service from friendly staff. Chloe and Emily served us after walking in yesterday with offers of specials amongst a busy restaurant. Previously indie served us before in an almost empty one and is a pleasure to chat to. I have yet to find something not to recommend on the menu.

Visited on Easter Sat for my grandaughters birthday (aged 7). We had 7 children and 6 adults. Friendly welcome, majority of staff are in their teens but very very attentive. The staff/food/atmosphere was 10/10, would recommend Grumpys to anyone of any age, can't wait to go back. Management have the perfect formula, keep it up.

Had a lovely impromptu meal with my Son. Food was very tasty, delicious burger, service was good and overall good value. Delicious Margarita too!

My regular breakfast, lunch, or sometimes dinner joint. Staff are always so friendly and helpful and chatty. Atmosphere is nice and light with a 50s diner vibe. Food is always so good from burgers and hotdogs to full breakfasts and ribs. We've had most choices on the menu. Milkshakes are excellent and there's a handful of beer choices. Staff that stand out with great service are Indie, Kerry, the chef, and Emily.

Grumpys is always a good bet for a night out. Went with my family to celebrate my birthday. Nothing is ever too much trouble (even with 5 small children), staff are always warm and friendly. Kerry always picks good people and the food is always huge portions and delicious. Thanks for a lovely evening. x

The pot wash was so pale it put me off my food. Also my cup had stains on it. I went last Saturday and the food was okay but the hygiene was a massive let down to be honest.

Nice place to eat the food was lovely I'm not a big burger fan but the ones in here were really nice and nothing was too much trouble for the girls serving us will definitely go again!

Arrived cold and missing an item. Got a refund for the missing item quickly and the driver offered to go back to get the item for us but we declined. We live about 15 minutes away so I guess food being a bit cooler is to be expected. And the missing item could easily happen anywhere

First time here. Staff great. Food great. Had same 4 breakfast items at another establishment not far from here last week, and that place food quality not a patch on Grumpys. Interesting internal USA theme decor. Will be back.

Not sure why I've haven't reviewed before. Been going to grumpy's for years, with friends, with family and on dates, any excuse really. The staff are always friendly and accommodating. The food is delicious with generous portions and they cook bacon how I like it. Its very clean and I love the decor. Delicious cocktails. If I had only one small reccomendation it would be the odd happy hour.

Went to grumpy diner for my partners birthday, the staff were lovely and very welcoming, always checking if we were okay or needed anything. Food service was quick and very nice no complaints. Atmosphere was good with lots of old school photos and even grease playing on the tv which we loved hahahaha would recommend this place for sure! Also like to add I was very impressed with the choices on the vegan menu lots of options for myself someone who can not eat dairy I was very happy

It's a quirky American style diner that's just so out of place it's brilliant! Food is good and reasonably priced and staff are friendly and polite. Worth a visit just for experience - I'll be going again, I'm sure

I had to put my Motorcycle in at Honda and thought why not try Grumpys diner up the road, I'm glad I did, I had a friendly welcome and quick service, all the waitresses where attentive, when looking around they were all busy doing something, so a credit to the workers. Il ne back with the family for breakfast/lunch/dinner.

delivery time was just over and hour but showed up early luckily, the food was bland and boring but the customer service was lovely, the mac and cheese wad dry, not saucey at all and greasy, the chicken nuggets were hot, crispy and tasted fresh but unfortunately they weren't seasoned at all, I also got a nutty brownie, was bitter and the texture was more like cake than a brownie, I wont be ordering again but they staff are nice :)

Very good food one of the best in area. My only niggle is that the corn on cob was stone cold - cooked properly just served coooold. Will come back just might avoid that side which is shame as I love that side

I really want to like Grumpy's. I really want it to be good. But it just isn't. After giving it one too many chances, (I've been with my family 3 times over the past 4 years) I will not be returning. The bottom line is, the food is simply crap. It tastes cheap. It tastes loveless. It's horrifically overpriced. We really felt aggrieved at the £70 bill for 2 adults, 2 little kids, with no desserts. The final insult (and this could go a LONG way to resolve some of the flavour issues) is the use of the cheapest, nastiest condiments. You leave feeling queasy and mugged off. We will not be returning. Another woeful example of an inadequate and rip-off eatery in Southend.

Me and my gf dicided to show up before closing and thought we would be turned down but was met with a smile and a warm welcome at are suprise! Staff were so lovey and we were served by Emily. The place its self was really interesting with loads of classic picture and props topped up with classic music and classic movies playing. Food came up really fast as was Lovley overall was really really impressed with the food the place and how kind and quick the staff was couldn’t recommend more.

Lovely diner! Loved the vibe inside with the decoration and music :). Great range on the menu and very American! We were served by Verry & Emily who were both attentive and nice ladies. Liked they had lots of veggie/vegan options.. great vegan Oreo milkshake! My husband said his burger was one of the best he’d ever had! ;)
