Ordered a Flatwhite after waiting for sometime even though lots of staff behind the counter. When it came the coffee was awful, Bitter is an understatement. Nothing decent to nibble with it. Would not return for the fact that the coffee was horrible.

I've been meaning to try this place for a while. I ordered drink, toastie, and a flapjack. The inside of the place is nice, they also have a few tables outside, so you can enjoy it on a nice day. My toastie and drink were nice. The flapjack that I had was a delicious 😊 person who was serving me, was very polite. The only one thing that I was not a big fan of was the cutlery, which could do with some cleaning . Nevertheless, this detail didn't ruin my experience. It's important to mention that the price of food was reasonable . I definitely recommend this place and I would like to go back there with my partner or friend.

This coffee shop has good reviews, but they are undeserved. The place is horrible inside, closer to an industrial hall than a welcoming cafe. Tables are packed together very closely, making it hard to get to one without disturbing others. Once you get to your table, you will find it as dirty and sticky as a cheap pub. This is not the atmosphere I want to find in a cafe, so I will not be returning here. The coffee was mediocre at best. It was mostly tasteless, and the milk didn't have a smooth texture. There was also virtually no cake available when I went.

Very sad interaction at Grow Coffee House today. I've been a customer here for a few years, always usually the most friendly service and atmosphere and beautifulfood and drinks. In September I moved to Totnes, and today was exited to grab one of their delicious oat chai in a takeaway cup, but without a plastic lid because i dont use plastic wherever possible. But the guy (beard, large build) was being really difficult with me, telling me he will give me a lid and I can take it straight off again incase I sue him because of health and safety 😅 and it will go straight into their recycling bin. This made my heart hurt, the majority of recycling in this country goes into landfil and its my right to try and avoid being a plastic consumer wherever possible. There aren't many small business coffee shops in exeter so I like to support them. Sadly because of this interaction I left and gave my business to Ari's healthy life on sidwell Street. Heart breaking. We're all human beings, I'm not going to sue you if I burn my hand after asking for no lid. I'm just trying to help the planet. Recycling is not to be trusted! Bring back the humanity! 💪

One of my favourite cafes in Exeter. Lovely food, tasty staff; love the art that's featured in it and the staff always play a lovely music playlist.

So so accommodating, and willing to help you. They built me a meal that catered to vegan/ dairy free, exactly what I wanted and knew exactly what was okay for me and not. Would definitely recommend and come back because staff were so friendly and helpful

It is an amazing layout for a coffee house. Amazing staff and great service. I recommend coming to have a drink and a cake, also recommend the apricot flapjack amazing quality!

As with coming from a hospitality background in my previous life I am very hesitant for leaving bad reviews. But, I used to be a regular, this place used to have a little of should I say je ne sais quoi about it, the staff, coffee and atmosphere was superb. But, ever since new management has come in, it's lost a large chunk of what made it special. The old staff were fantastic, bonded well together and very much had a friendly vibe going on, but with the new management stepping in there was an overhaul, with the new staff in there is a certain amount of incompetence, lack of interest and cleanliness has definitely fallen down the pecking order. Coffee used to be fantastic with the upmost care put into each cup, to just a cup of mediocrity. In essence it's gone from a place that had lots of character to a sub standard Costa Coffee.

Nice place for an afternoon coffee a bit outside of High Street.

This is a quirky retro style cafe with a range of comfortable seating and really excellent coffee. The staff are speedy and polite. Well worth checking out

Lovely coffee, amazing cakes, nice atmosphere and super friendly service. The reason for 4 stars was that the coffee was so slow to arrive. We'd eaten the cake by the time it arrived, and that was only after we had asked for it. Interestingly the server brought 2 other people's order to our table before ours. If that one aspect could be improved it would be a resounding 5 stars. Come on Grow, I know you can do it 😏

Called in for a coffee on Friday afternoon. Three lads behind the counter, all doing nothing, didn’t even acknowledge us. My wife ordered two coffees but they said they couldn’t give us proper cups because they had run out of clean crockery - it was all over the tables waiting to be cleared! We then waited twenty minutes for our coffees before my wife returned to the counter, whereupon they said ‘it’s coming’. Another five minutes and we had our coffee. But no teaspoons. The server fetched us a spoon but he was holding the bowl rather than the handle of the spoon. Amazing incompetence from three lads completely unsuitable to this service industry!

Very nice vibe in this coffee shop. When we went it was very busy, but the staff were excellent. Would recommend the cherry cake.

After googling ‘good coffee in Exeter’ this place came up but it was clearly a fraudulent set of reviews. Terrible coffee and would rather had gone to Pret/Costa. See photos for their interpretation of a flat white.

Well we always go out of our way to visit this coffee shop as the coffee, staff and atmosphere are so good. However today, this was not the case. Our order was incorrect and when we questioned it we were made to feel it was our fault. We accepted the incorrect order anyway but we’re disappointed to receive no apology. The toilets were dirty, no toilet paper and the dryers were not working either. Not sure if we will be back.

I’m a coffee lover and this place used to be a favourite hang-out. Alas the coffee has gone downhill and there’s a lack of vegan food options. Grow no longer accept cash. This is a bad move and means I won’t be back. It hurts the most needy people in our society who have no access to banks and digital money. I hope this decision is reversed.

I had a fantastic experience at Grow Coffee Shop during our student social event. The warm and inclusive atmosphere, along with accommodating staff, made us feel right at home. Regular and normally okay. I’ll forgive the no greeting as I approached the counter as I think the lady was new. When my toastie cheese and ham arrived, it was very sad looking. Previously there’s been coleslaw on the side but that has gone. No napkins. Toastie was like cardboard in roughness and depth. Had to prise it open to see if it actually contained any cheese to go with the single slice of ham. Not a pleasure to eat and won’t be back of this is the new standard. Shame

The coffee is great, it’s good to come with friends for chatting or spend time alone (read a book etc.)

Found this coffee house on my way to the cathedral. Lively, very busy, interesting clientele. Coffee is really great and dare I say it the toasties are even better! Heartedly recommended.

Our favourite coffee pit stop. The toasted banana bread with cinnamon butter is awesome 👌 The service is lovely they have a unique friendly vibe. Indoor spaces and outdoor space. Highly recommend 👌 👍 👏

I absolutely love this place. As a coeliac it can be terrifying eating out but this place is so switched on, and take it really seriously. I really appreciate the level of care they take. The food is great and the drinks are great.

I ordered a Frappe with cookie and cream and that was the worst coffee in my life. Maybe the staff forgot to put syrup in a drink...and a lot of pieces of ice, which means it was blended badly. That's my second time here and second time horrible drink. So never coming back. The staff is super lovely tho. That is the main reason why I gave this place a second chance.

What a lovely coffee house. Lovely staff a nice selection of savoury and sweet food available which is always good quality. The outside seating is a real bonus when the weather is dry.

Pretty poor. Me and wife called in for two cups of tea. The tea arrived in two separate pots, but when poured out it was weak and luke warm. When my wife asked for another tea bag, the waitress said she would have to charge the £2.70 for another tea. Absolutely disgusting charging all that for another tea bag. We won't be back

First visit. Lovely relaxed space and excellent coffee. No food purchased this time. Something to try next time. Close to the centre and handily located between the High Street and quayside.

Lovely place. Had espresso and i am picky when it comes to coffee. Really enjoyed their house roast. Warm staff. Did not try food but the banana bread looked delicious!

We walked passed this little café and thought it looked nice, so my husband and I went in with my two children (age 3 and 1). We ordered a coffee and a smoothie. They have a lovely area outside which was nice. However, we quickly realised that this is not a family friendly place because we were told that our very young children were not allowed to eat food that is not from the café. My one year old were drinking her milk and my three year old were having a biscuit and a piece of bread. We were told that we can order toastie for our children instead. During the conversation with the owner, our 1 year old fell off the chair and hit her face on the table and the owner did not show any concern about the incident and just kept on telling us that no café would allow young children to have their own bread and milk that is not from the café. We were very unhappy about the experience and would not recommend this place to anyone with young children.

Overall, this is a lovely coffee shop where they serve excellent coffee and play nice music from Tarantino films. However, my experience was spoilt by the waitress who hinted to me that I had to order more food and drinks to stay longer with my laptop. I thought it was rather random because this policy was nowhere disclosed and there were also other people on their gadgets. It made me feel unwelcome and I'm not sure if I'd like to return there again.

Very nice coffee shop/café. Dirty chai latte was very good, and the spicy chicken pesto toastie was excellent, really tasty. The salted caramel brownie was very nice. 👍🏻

A wonderful coffee shop, I’ve become a regular here popping in at least once a week. I highly recommend it. -Staff are welcoming, friendly and all around splendid- even building relationships with regular costumers. -The food is always delicious, and there are so many options- some of which I haven’t even had a chance to try, and plenty of vegan options too! -The smoothies always hit the spot (I don’t drink hot drinks so can’t comment on them). -The atmosphere is relaxed, making it easy to go there for a catch up with friends or to complete work. -Service is always quick and the tables/ chairs are always clean. -The pricing is very cheap for independent cafes in Exeter but it doesn’t compromise on the integrity of the food.

Excellent coffee shop next next to a great guitar shop. The perfect blend. Decent flat white, good atmosphere to the place and mix of customers. Will be back.

So in town for a few days and stopped off here for a bite to eat. Looked nice and cozy from the outside. A warm welcome from staff, quick service. I ordered a coffee and a cheese and ham (vegan equivalent) toastie. Coffee was great, toastie was slightly burnt around the edges but was not a huge issue. Nice ambiance and relaxing surroundings. It was a bit pricy for what I had (£10.20) All in all not a bad place to stop off.

A lovely selection of vegan coffees, cakes and food for reasonable prices. Staff are always super friendly. One server (blonde dreadlocks) was really helpful and accommodating after I’d accidentally ordered an extra toastie and refunded me no problem. Definitely my go-to coffee house in Exe!

Have been here before for coffee meetings and the coffee and general atmosphere are nice. Today though I was meant to feel extremely awkward. I came in with my son and had just bought him a cake from the street market up the road, the cake box was sealed and we had seated ourselves before I went to the till to order. When I had paid, the server next to the lady who had just taken my money said rather abruptly, we don't tolerate people eating their own food in here, I immediately turned as I expected from the cool comment, that my son (who knows better), had opened the box of cake and was munching his way through it. To be greeted as expected by my son sat good as gold, patiently waiting for his smoothie, cake box still sealed. I turned to the server and said we had just picked up the cake from the market and simply, as the other patrons in there were, just carrying our purchases of the day, of which this was one. The server then rudely told me "well we are hot on it" I said I think your attitude is unnecessary. The whole experience was embarrassing and awkward and spoilt what should have been a relaxing coffee stop. I won't be back. Looking at the reviews it appears that many of the disgruntled customers repeat the same, the staff are adept at jumping to conclusions and abrupt in their chastising delivery. Maybe some staff customer service training is in order. Spoilt experience, such a shame.

What a lovely original cool cafe such a relaxed feeling, a range of seating options from sofas to traditional tables and chairs, tables with charging points if you wish to sit and work, perfect for enjoying time chatting with friends a mixed crowd. Nice food/sandwich/toasties, cakes and pastries and great coffee. Just a 1 min walk off the high street to escape the shops! Well done to the owner thank you

Along side the coffee house and Life guitars, there is a 'Retro clothes and accessories ' shop. Delightful staff, comfortable and welcoming. Highly recommended.

Always a bit sceptical of a 'hipster' coffee house but this has great vibes, great coffee and nice places to sit and be. My mother's cappuccino was 'nice and hot under the froth' so must be good as she's a tough one to please!

Nice little coffee shop with outdoor seating too. Only issue was the cold and blunt reaction from the waiter. We had been eating there with our two dogs on leads, who were fast asleep majority of the time. However another customer came in with a dog off the lead, and she didn’t prevent it from approaching our dogs, one of our dogs barked briefly to tell it to back off. The waiter swiftly came over and told us we would need to leave if our dog barked again. We understand the reasons why, but felt it was unjustified in this instance, ruined the whole experience for us. So we would not say that this is a dog friendly spot for those looking for one.

My #1 cafe in Exeter. Very nice people working here, always very quite, coffee and free wifi. The place was my everyday stop for drinking coffee while working remotely. I'm a cortado man and they serve really tasty one.

Wonderful little coffee house. Stumbled across it accidentally as we'd come to visit an exhibition that was on at the Corn Exchange. My hubby was so glad we did! Coffee and guitars! His two favourite things. Honestly, I could have left him there and he'd have been fine! The staff are super welcoming and really friendly and it had a chilled out vibe Would love to visit again when not in so much of a rush!

Had a really nice oat cortado here -like a true coffee officiando! The staff were really friendly and the coffee was delicious. They've got a decent selection of side nibbles and some hit food like vegal sausage baps. Although it's on the corner of a main road in Exeter, you don't have nt actually notice it even when sat outside. Definitely one of the better coffee houses in the city and would recommend going.

One of my favorite cafe in Exeter. Good coffee and free wifi. The place is quite peace and relax, even during the busy time. The vibe here is best for you to relax, study, or do a little bit of work. There are some food and soft drink to be served as well.

Certainly one of the best coffee houses in Exeter. Very popular with students and professionals alike, in desperate need of a larger or multiple venues as afternoons finds it hard to get a seat.

What a character and lovely staff at Grow. I did lemon drizzle, flat white, bacon buns with avo and it was glorious. I like the location and the quality as well. Definitely my favorite breakfast/coffee place in Exeter!

The people working are super friendly + the coffee is STUNNING! However I was really disappointed by the food, all the "toast" we ordered came out barely toasted, it was just warm bread. The toastie bread is too thin and it disintegrates when toasted, they also don't use any fat while it's being toasted so again the toastie bread is just warm bread, not at all crispy. Also the bacon is really bad quality, very cheap and thin. Won't eat here again that's for sure, but stopping by for a drink is lovely.
