Groby Fish Shop in Hinckley and Bosworth

Popped in for chips,pie,mushy peas ,service is excellent, only drawback don't take credit/debit cards ,my local chippy does near me considerably more people pay contact less these days..

First time using them was last night, this was the best chippy I’ve had in a long time. Friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere inside. Chips were excellent, mixed kebab was excellent. Must try their potato fritters, I never knew they could be so nice. They even gave some freebies as they were closer to closing time. 10/10 would recommend, and will be back 👍

Nice food, but cash only! Why is that do you think?? Hmmm... Also, they're using plastic containers rather than cardboard ones, which I thought had now been banned...poor choice.

Best kebab I've had in a long time. Reasonable prices and friendly staff. Worth a stop if you're in the area.

The staff are really friendly. I chose the skinless cod so had to wait whilst it was cooked from scratch. I was offered a free sample of chips whilst I waited. This was my second visit so I knew the portion sizes were huge. One large fish and a regular portion of chips was more than enough for two.

Had a cheese burger and Donna kabab with salads separately Well done so fresh best I've had for years great food 10/10 paid for a can but forgot it 😜 see you soon

Food cold portions have become ridiculously small, considering the competition is also rubbish, time to go out of the village

Issue was not one of quality of food but other issues One you can do little about ie car parking my wife is disabled and could get no where near The 2nd however we were surprised when told could only pay in cash not everyone Carrys cash about nowadays

Best chippy I have ever visited! Their kebabs are also amazing!! Must try the chicken shees with the cabbage salad!!! The small fish is size of a regular fish on the seaside!! I dare you to eat a regular fish! You won’t need tea for sure!

£5 regular chips and sausage, but comes in polystyrene box,definitely not regular chips! Cash only to avoid tax man obviously, not card in this day and age 🙄! Don't go in at night time as they assume, typical English drunk so can Rip them off!

What a fabulous find, we called here this evening on our way back from Leicester, food was delicious, staff were patient when I asked a million questions (thank you), we managed to sit at a table in the corner of the takeaway and we were really looked after everything faultless we couldn't believe the endless amount of people calling on a Monday evening which just proves this is one place not to be missed, will definitely be back when next in the area 5/5. 30mins. It took way too long to serve 1cod and chips After asking several times how long my order was, I realised that they’d served a lot of customers that came in after me. It’s really upset my evening

Previously allowed bank transfer, in a road worker starving hungry no food for miles and the bloke says no more. Get a card machine and get with the times, left a hungry worker hungry shame on you.

Cash only. Other than that, it's reasonably priced, clean and the service is courteous. Plenty of space for cars to park, 1 bench outside and 1 table inside.

I just wanted to let you, the public know, I’m a pest controller , and to this date, I have never been into a take away and not found and issues what so ever, until visiting Groby fish bar , it gets 5stars for hygiene , the food, there attitude , everything a credit to them.

As a Flyball team, after training hard, at our summer camp. What more could we ask for….. fantastic fish & chips, excellent quantity & quality. Customer service, was fab, as staff went above & beyond to ensure names were put on each individual order. Highly recommended

Very generous portions here. Fish and chips and kebabs were delicious. Nice people working here too. Only one 6-seat table inside and one table outside.

First time I visited this place last Friday on recommendation for their kebabs. So glad I did. I live in Rothley and usually use a certain kebab/pizza place in the village. Nothing wrong with it but after trying Groby,s mixed kebab it blew them out the water. I cannot remember the exact name but it easily fed 3 people and consisted of chicken shish (cooked on the skewers in front of you), doner, chicken tikka and peppers and onions in a large container. Also came with separate salad, sauces, large chips and a large bottle of drink. All this for £21. The food was great in quality, quantity and taste and definitely worth the 12 minutes drive from Rothley to get this. My new go to place when the family are wanting a mixed kebab. Highly recommend!

The fish & chips here are good (nice and crisp) but the service from the staff wasn’t. We ordered ‘fish & chips’ and had to wait - while others came in & went with their orders. At no point we’re we told our order would take time. (This is why I will now be using Glenfield Chippie - the chips there aren’t as good but at least he tells you if you’ll have to wait.) When my wife asked why our order had taken longer she couldn’t understand the explanation. This place does give away freebies (chocolates?) to some of the kids who come in. For some reason my kids weren’t offered them, maybe they’re just for regulars?

Used to always go to Rothley in years gone by but in recent times that’s gone downhill and got very expensive. This chip shop is brilliant, decent portions and really efficient service. Always nice to see the young ones being trained up professionally behind the counter too. Our go to chippy in the area now, it’s open when you need and food is fantastic, usually freshly cooked and always worth the wait.

It is one of the best ones in the area. You get loads of chips and a really healthy portion of fish for your money. As I asked for cod and it was going to be a 5 min wait, the nice bloke gave me a small plate of chips to help while away the time. How nice was that?

Don't cook the chips long enough

Always use the fish and chip shop In groby village. The quality is great and friendly staff and portions are great. The fish and chip shop is very clean and has a high standard of cleanliness by far.

Been meaning to review this fish and chip shop for ages, as its consistently excellent. The fish is gorgeous beautifully cooked with nice crispy batter, the chips are really good, nice and dry. I'd highly recommend this place it's very friendly too.

Great staff, great food, great price

I can’t emphasise enough how much me and my brother enjoyed our food here! We were served outside by the friendliest member of staff and are 100% going back next weekend at 11:30am for the freshest and tastiest food! We absolutely love both fish and chips and kebabs and this has to be the best I’ve had in a long time. I unfortunately didn’t have a photo of the fish and chips we also shared but it was so fresh and crisp.

I have had a fair few donner kebabs in my lifetime. After a 20 minute wait, you would expect for a half decent kebab. What we received was a container full off donner meat in a plastic box with a pitta bread shoved on top that hadn’t even been sliced. Groby fish bar, google donner kebab and learn some very basic lessons.

Excellent. We had Cod with chips. The Cod was of such a high quality, cooked to perfection in a lovely and golden crisp batter. They were hot and fresh and a delight to eat.

Nice food but getting more and more expensive

Very lucky to have the best chippy ever nearby! The food has consistently been excellent for many years and the friendly, professional service does them huge credit. The chips actually taste of potato, the haddock is always huge and succulent while the chicken tikka kebab meat is amazing! A regular tray is ample for two adults but it keeps well for sandwiches the next day. Enjoy!

Been going to Groby Fish bar for years on average twice a week early on tonight ordered my usual cost me an extra £7 compared to normal smaller portions and food tasted like it has been sat there for a long period of time will not be going back The food does not reflect on prices

You do get loads of chips with a burger. It was delicious. They only do fizzy drinks and water. They don't accept card. They do have a co op next door.

This place has gone downhill. Been using for years but the last couple of times has been awful. Fish batter soft, mozzarella sticks with no mozzarella and wrong order given, ordered chicken and mushroom pie and got potato fritter! Will give it a miss now, dont know what has changed?

One of the best / yummiest fish & chips in LE3 & LE6 areas, freshly cooked food, friendly & helpful staff, reasonable price, the place is clean. There are seats / picnic tables outside for decent weather days, a couple of seats inside. As food is freshly cooked, so there is a little bit of waiting time, which is worth for the wait. Parking can be a bit of a problem as the village is getting busier but there are some street parking s nearby and also coop next door 🤭

The best kebab i've eaten so far. Chicken shish kebabs are perfectly marinated , chunky and juicy. They put pitta bread and salad separately which is very new and impressing for me. Large kebab is enough for two people easily unless you are starving lol. I will definitely recommend this chippy to everyone who wants to have a proper kebab. See you very soon again.

Looked good... tasted bad.... resulted in food poisoning. Enough said. First warning sign was staff cleaning the kebab grill with degreasing chemicals - with kebab meat still on the grill!! What food hygiene course have you been on? Second warning smell from the chicken - wasn't good. Smelt like marmite and tasted sour. Third result - probably best not enlarged on. A shame because the portion size was huge, and it looked great, (although I have my doubts as to the freshness of the Naan), service was good, bit on the pricey side, chips were a bit stale - but come on, there is no excuse for serving dodgy chicken at all.

1st time went here as just moved to Groby, yummy, fresh fish, white inside, crispy batter tasted lovely. Chips were not very hot though. However, 2nd time. Fantastic, Battered sausage brilliant taste, chips,,,,,,,,,,,, Hot, hot ,hot and fresh. Yipppppppeeeeeeee Update Oh, So yummy, been so many times every time, fresh, hot, tasty, now i have to go to slimming world over the road from chip shop. Ohhh the temptation. Best chip shop everrrrrrr
