Just good all around decent service. Tasty kebabs and good sized portions

Just eating the fish and chips I got from here in my car as I'm a long long way from home. They are amazing. Massive portion of chips and a huge fish and this is just the standard portion. I can't recommend this place enough.

Won't be going here for a while half the chips was cold and the rest only just warm kebab meat cold and asked for garlic mayo and got mint sauce had roughly 10 chips a small mouthful of kebab meat then It went in the bin and my cat had the kebab meat will not be back knocked off a star because of the brilliant intelligent remark! How hard is it to keep some kebab meat and some chips warm not to mention listen to your customers!!! If you are not the actual owner which I don't think you are you need sacking!

My husband went out to our local chip shop that showed on google as being open, it wasn't, so he googled nearest chip shop and Desford chip shop came up, i called them and he said very polite yes mam we are open all day till the evening at weekends, its so hard to find a chip shop open in the day, Anyway he came back with fish, chips peas, and a spring roll, thiught i would be able to eat due to such small portions at previous chip shops, he had a kebab, Pita bread was cooked in a kiln, and the size of the kebab along with salad could have easy fed two people, plentiful, my chip box was full to the max and it was ment to to a mini fish and chips, the fish well what can i say, not consumed by batter, it was fish and lots of it, thick and tasty and not dry. Thankyou for serving such portions in the current times of struggles for many people. I will next time however only take what i can eat, i dont like chucking good food away.the fish was eaten and the spring roll half eaten. My husband only just managed to eat the kebab. £36 for 2 fish, 3 chips, 2 peas, 2 curry sauce, fishcake spring roll and a battered sausage. Chips under cooked fish on the small side fishcake dry and batter soft on fish and sausage. We felt properly ripped off. We'll stick to the Manor in Ibstock in future.

Large portions & good quality food staff friendly

Do not go to this place I had ordered food for me and my brother and my dad I had thought I could get 2 burgers with a cone of chips with enough money I had ordered and I had less money than thought I was scammed by this place as they scammed me for more money than the original price of my order so I had bought my brother and dad a burger and a cone of chips and the original price for a cone of chips is 2.00 and they charged me for a large chips I used to be a regular and now I don’t go because of the price they also over cooked the burgers and then I had to by myself a a pot noodle at my local shop and told my dad and my dad said that it was a scam and they had binned my receipt while not asking if I wanted it and I was told by someone who works at my dads work that they went there and had the same experience so I won’t go there again

Very poor, you have to watch your change and how much they charge you, I used to go regularly and now they have lost my custom

I would say standard fish & chip/kebab - price ok for what we got to feed 4 - personally I like more flavour on my chicken...

I've moved here recently from London.... Desford Fish bar does the absolutely best food... Fresh, hot & delicious!! Trust me I was spoilt for choice back South... Great friendly service at fair prices & generous portions... Erdi... cooks the Kebabs to perfection!! Just the best!!! Just try them & see for yourselves... I will be a customer for life!! Unfortunately, our experience wasn't the best. We usually love this chip shop, usually great chips, etc... however, our experience this time wasn't great, we were checking what we wanted to order, the lady asked for our order, I answered, still looking then gave part of our order, I was just checking with the others what they wanted, then went to carry on saying what I wanted, the lady was already taking some one else's order than asked if that was everything to me I said no, she then continued to take our order, then again serving someone else, I felt something was wrong with our order so I checked is that definitely all of it yes, she replied I then tried to re-check the order once outside. I couldn't figure out what was missing, so I was hoping all okay has we had to travel home. The potatoe fritter was ordered with a cone of chips, yet that ended up with the large bag of chips sausage and fish cake, yet we ordered it separately with a cone if chips, due to our being a vegetarian. So, there is no cone of chips, no rice with kebab, and couldn't eat the potatoe fritter. So, I had nothing before going to work. £25 the order cost. Unfortunately, I won't be visiting the nearer future. I don't usually do reviews, but I was extremely shocked by the price, then not to have all our orders and didn't taste nowhere. The nearer has great has they used to. It's such a shame. I felt it could have gone a lot better if concentrated on the customer you were serving rather than trying to serve too many at once.

Had the mixed kebab for 2 lots of different meat donor chicken, lamb ,spicy lamb peppers mushrooms, rice salad and portion of chips with sauces plenty of food for 2 ate left over the next day really enjoyed

Been going her now for a few weeks now, thought I’d review this business as they are doing a great job, they are always friendly and inventive to our needs, They cook the fish while your waiting so it’s fresh and not dry, I had one of their kebabs last week it was truly amazing Keep doing what your doing because your doing a great job 👏🏻

Getting too expensive. If you can, you would be better served by Greedy Fish in Newbold Verdon. Dropping the rating again because of the snarky response. Good luck with your customers with an attitude like that. I've witnessed the same in person too though, so I'm not too surprised. You might need to raise your prices again in order to maintain your income as people decide to go elsewhere.

My partner tonight bought diner meat, chips and asked for mushy peas and garlic sauce to be out in separate containers. What did we get but garlic sauce over everything but did get mushy peas in separate container. 2nd time they've done this. 2nd time too many as will not buy again from there.

We love it here and go nearly weekly and are rarely disappointed! Nice staff and as someone who's always been fussy with chips theirs are great.

me and my auntie came in when we out delivering little India (takeaway net door) we ordered a bag of chips and wow they were salty and had a good portion size will be going back

Just popped in for a tray of chip. First time I have managed to get a break near the chippy. Very impressed with the portion and great taste.

Salty , way too salty marinade for chicken shish. Took 25 mins … because they have cooked it to within an inch of its life. Hence chicken dry very dry . Poor

Only moved 1 minutes walk from this chip shop at the beginning of october and only used it twice but I must say each time (1 for fish and chips and the other for a mix kebab for 2) we have both enjoyed the food and thought it was cooked to a very high standard with quality ingredients

I have been using the Desford Fish n Chips shop for more years than I care to remember. However since the new people took over a number of years ago, the quality and pricing have been firmly moved in a positive direction. There is always a small que for service, but if you want something special (Kebab, Scampi, Haddock etc) then going in and given then a heads up is always welcome. The foods is cooked as it should be, and they don’t skimp on portion size when it comes to chips🥳. It’s tasty, the fish is fresh and nothing appears to be to much trouble for them. Pricing is fair and I have never felt I paid to much or that their was no value for money, unlike some seaside resorts which I have visited recently including one in Westen-Super-Mare who tried to pass off River Cobbler as an ocean swimming fish and refused to admit what they nd down even in the face of what was staring at him in the face. Desford on the other hand will always provide quality and go out of their way to make sure you enjoy your meal. During the recent lockdowns, they were open and social distancing was adhered to. All in all, I live some distance from Desford and there are other Chip shops closer or the same distance, but I have given up on them. All in all a quality establishment with great service and great food. Handy parking outside and well attended by local,old visitors alike.

Been here a few times and normally very good. However today the chips were cold and there was hardly any batter on the fish. The fish was OK though. What a shame first fish and chips for months and we got that.

Shocking service. Food was ok. Assistant got my order wrong and when I tried to correct it all I got was attitude and she throw the change at me on the side.

The food is so lush November 1st 2020.. thats all good guys, I think the range of foods is great. Could do with Gluten Free days or offers. My mum is Celiac and helps take care of me. She loves a good chippy dinner now and then but no one offers it unless you can drive. There are alot of Celiac's in the village.....might be something to consider in the future (I know its expensive but it would be worth it in my opinion) keep up the good work guys. Have used this chippy for years. The standard of both service and product is normally excellent. Is reasonably covid safe - stand on one of five crosses on floor! Howver, they permit people to be served whilst not wearing a mask - there were two of the five last night - did not feel safe and may consider future visits if this continues.

A great little village chip shop, the chips and fish are excellent. They offer a wide range of standard items along with a large selection of burgers and the quality is very good. (so if the price)

Nothing special. Seems expensive. And the food is average. I don't think this chip shop business will survive. Like many other small businesses. It's hard work for little pay.

Last fish and chips we had were awful. The fish was grey and smelly. The chips greasy and overcooked. Any comments or complaints are met with rudeness. Not been the same since the parents retired !

Not been to this establishment in over 2 years due to their utter rudeness! Tonight, against my better judgement I gave this place another chance and the picture says it all! Do they serve rubbish like this deliberately?? I wouldn’t serve this so called food to my ferrets, if I had any!! Do not eat here if you like quality food!

The best kebabs and burgers for miles around, generous portions allowing for slightly expensive pricing. The chips can be hit and miss.

Good quality chippy at a reasonable price

Best shish kebabs I have ever tasted, the meat served on a bed of rice and the salad and naan bread wrapped separately. All of the meat is beautiful and cooked perfectly, I haven’t tasted a kebab like this anywhere and they are reasonably priced and the premises are clean and bright. The staff are pleasant. The fish and chips are very nice and you get a decent portion that will actually feed 2 people.

Don't use this place very often because I don't live round there but I have used it for a few years.it sells one of the best kebabs anywhere well worth a detour to visit

Good lunchtime deals & quick service

Needed a takeaway after helping family move into new home nearby. Fish cooked to order in about 10-15 minutes and absolutely huge portion. One would easily feed 2 people. Nice fish and chips at reasonable price.

Gravy and chips were good but giving me a stale bread bun didn't go down well. Trying to microwave it just made it go even harder! 70 pence too, it went in the bin.

Me pareció que era una tienda de pescado y vergüenza chip completo. Pescado con batería pasada. Chip de mi salchicha maltratadas tan fría estaba más caliente. Parecía como patatas fritas calentado de vez cena buena kebabs, pero tienes que subir su juego y mejorar. No será tener pescado y patatas fritas de nuevo

Have used this fish and chips for a few years. The fish is beautifully cooked as are the chips. Reasonable prices. Good variety of food e.g. Kebabs burgers as well as the usual. Pleasant helpful staff. Would definitely recommend.

One of the best fish I ever had.

Chips are stale with too much salt. Fish is over cooked covered in too much salt.. Very oily. Service is very slow. Customer service is bad. A man called Urdi was very rude when confronted about how salty the food was. Would not recommend.
