Superb! Went for some lunch with the wife, as usual the place was busy but we were seated really quick, ordered poached eggs with bread and mashed avocado, served really quick, tasted amazing! We go there regularly and cannot fault it, staff are brilliant too, highly recommend

Disappointing.....poached eggs were solid and over cooked. Mac and cheese wasn't nice my partner didn't finish it and prefers the one from m&S..for 13 quid you'd expect better the total bill was like 32 pound and it was just a waste of money and petrol. Do yourself a favour and don't bother if you want the food to taste nice. The food looks good as very presentable but the taste is not there. The staff also don't really seem to care .. they didn't ask once how the food was.

We stopped in on our way home from a day out and we are so glad we did! Staff were lovely and the food was absolutely fantastic! They even had a dog menu which we ordered from to take away for our dog at home! The cakes are out of this world - especially the cinnamon bun! It is a little on the pricey side but if I was in the area again, I couldn’t drive past without going in! I would definitely recommend!

We have just had lunch at Gro on the outskirts of Ayr with our Cocker Spaniel Mara. What a fantastic find this place is, so welcoming and friendly, with a great menu including a doggy section! The food was delicious and well priced, including Mara’s own fresh chicken. The staff were some of the friendliest we have encountered, especially the young lady with the delicately classy tattoos on her arm, I’m not one for tattoos but hers were very pretty. The array of cakes and other treats on offer were fantastic, too many to choose from. The whole ambiance of the place just made you feel special. Finding somewhere to eat with your pet is so satisfying and such a good move by the owners in today’s busy world, something that other establishments should take note of. Well done everyone at Gro, I couldn’t speak more highly about this place. Loved our lunch and so did Mara!

Arrived for lunch, pleasantly surprised when there was lots of empty tables as it is usually very busy however had to wait for 5 minutes until staff met us at the door to show us to a table and a further 40 minutes to order drinks. I asked staff if I was able to order and girl behind the till was lovely however servers on the floor wandered about appearing to deliberately look away from myself when trying to catch their attention. Food arrived quickly however my black pudding and links were cold. A very lovely place to sit for a coffee however staff seem to let the place down with their manner and attitude.

We haven’t had a great experience. The waiting time was pretty abysmal and it wasn’t even that busy. We waited 20 minutes to be served eventually after asking twice for them to do so. It then took 50 minutes for our food to come and I had to ask after 40 mins where it was. We were offered complimentary drinks and the girl who took the order left her shift and we didn’t get them. We mentioned this when paying and were offered takeaway drinks but we declined. No money was offered off the bill and the service was atrocious. The staff need properly trained in customer service skills as they are extremely lacking. The pizzas seemed like they were flung together and why they took 50 minutes have no idea

We went for a coffee then after we went to our appointment we went back for lunch. Food was lovely and huge - so if eating there go hungry. My hubby and I both had toasties, I had the pulled pork - hubby had tuna melt. Both were amazing, loads of fillings in both, lovely fresh salad the coleslaw was amazing. What I like was all the personal choices you had with everything, bread, cheese flavour, main filling then extras like onions etc, then what garnishes on the side - excellent. We found the staff lovely and helpful. Brought puddings home for later. The only small challenge was the speed of the food coming out - but didn’t detract from the over all experience. The ambience of the place was lovely, place was clean , staff kept clearing up. The toilets were clean too. If down that way will definitely visit again Oh and they cater for doggies too - their own menu for eating and drinking - love it 🥰

Came here for breakfast following a night spent at a nearby hotel. Looked nice inside, but once there ... oh dear. Food took an age to arrive and when it did it was barely warm. The green "garnish" on my eggs benedict was inedible - I'd have been better off eating the plastic leaves decorating the bench seating. My wife ordered french toast with bacon, which arrived minus the bacon, and as for the toast itself it had, as she remarked, only ever had a passing acquaintance with anything resembling an egg. To cap it all the waiting staff, with one exception, were abrupt and surly to the point of blatant rudeness. Avoid.

Waited 20 minutes to order from being seated. Drinks left lying on the counter with counter staff walking up and ignoring them. Eventually served ourself after they were left lying for 10 plus minutes. Food was good. Paying the bill is an ordeal!!! Couldn’t believe you had to queue up where they were also taking carry out orders. Asked 2 separate staff if this was correct as couldn’t believe they were turning people away at the entrance, despite a huge queue of people trying to leave. As a result, waited over 15 minutes to pay!!! Staff do not look energetic or willing and seem oblivious to the chaos around them!! Won’t be back in a hurry here unless they can sort basic issues out.

Waited 15 minutes after sitting down and eventually had to catch someone's eye to take our order. 3 members of staff all too bust having a chat. Cakes looked great, but bloody hell, they're expensive. £4.50 for a bit of millionaires shortbread. Which wasn't even that good!! Not going to be back.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

We visited recently for coffee and cake on a Sunday afternoon. No problem with the staff, the coffee or the cakes. However, we were given a table next to people who had two dogs with them. The smell of the dogs was a bit off-putting but the bitter end came when one of the dogs was lifted from the floor and sat by its owners on the bench seat next to them. That is against GRO policy (dogs should be on the floor) and is in any case very unhygienic. Dogs scrabble about heavens only knows where (they are dogs after all) and it is unacceptable for customers to then have to sit where dogs have sat before them. People pay for a visit to GRO - not dogs - and GRO should appreciate their client base before pandering overly much to dog owners who flout the rules. It is entirely possible for dogs and people to co-exist in GRO but only if dog owners follow the rules which are clearly displayed for all to see and these rules say dogs should be on the floor. Dog owners who do not follow the rules, risk it for other dog owners whose dogs sit quietly on the floor.

We were staying at the Travelodge next door and this place was convenient for eating out. But it is a bit of an enigma. Is it a restaurant or a coffee shop? The seating is relaxed and comfortable - many armchairs and couches - so the place has a very casual appeal. We had dinner (pizza and a burger) when we arrived but most of the people around us seemed to be having coffee and cakes. They stop serving food around 9pm and the place shuts at 10pm! The following night (Saturday) we returned at 9pm for a final glass of wine before bed and we were the only people there! However, a member of staff told us that earlier in the day there was a wait of up to an hour for a table! She gifted me the very last cake they had left - an enormous Empire Biscuit! We returned the following morning (Sunday) at 9.30am for breakfast before driving back to the South of England and it was busy. People with kids and dogs having pancakes and waffles. We had the more traditional egg, sausage, tomato etc which was excellent. Despite being described as "The Wee Gro Breakfast" it was about as much as I could eat. On leaving, we spotted the vast selection of cakes laid out for the rest of the day and they looked amazing. So go to this place if you want a very relaxed experience with friendly service and you are not too worried about your waste line. Don't go if what you want is a traditional restaurant because it isn't that, although the menu is extensive.

Absolutely terrible customer service none existent! Obvious that the woman waiting on did not want to be in work, everything too much trouble. Had a pizza to share- had to ask for plates & seasonings face on her was like a bad weekend. Did tell a different waitress that the pizza was overcooked when asked if everything ok but no apology or feedback. We finished and left. How can this place get it so right for breakfast that we came back the same day and then they get it so wrong and don't care!

Came in for a catch up with my friend. Decided to have coffee and some dinner, food was spot on as per, can’t fault it. However huge fall down with the staff, I found them quite rude/unapproachable. Normally don’t have a problem except this time was different. We initially got sat by a lovely girl at the door, but waited a while for someone to come over to take our orders. When we went up to the bar to pay up as we were leaving the staff were having their own conversation at the coffee machine, laughing and joking before greeting me. The girl I encountered was named “Libs” on the till, think some customer service skills need to be implemented she was just so rude, didn’t crack a smile or even say hello/goodbye, just told us the amount which was owed and practically rolled her eyes when I asked for a box for my unfinished cake. She was just unprofessional, while serving us she was still engaging in conversation with another co-worker from across the bar. I have worked in hospitality for years and I get the pressure, however during cashing up we felt as though we were an inconvenience to her.

This is a very very busy restaurant with great music, plenty of good smells and a great welcome and that's before we are shown to our table.... The menu is vast with plenty of vegan/vegetarian choices, we had and earl grey tea /breakfast tea all came in a lovely tea pot with its own built in strainer. We then ordered a black pudding and smoked ham 4egg omelette with spiced mayo, and butter milk pancakes with buttermilk chicken and a fried egg.. My omelette was well over cooked more of a bread taste with no texture or flavour even though it had smoked ham, and the spiced mayo was very hot not spicey ,the pancakes also were slightly burned dry although the syrup helped to moisten them the chicken was dry and stringy but the egg was nice...the cola was vegan and not to my taste.. The counter was loaded with some fabulous looking cakes but as we had left our table and was on our way out, and on a diet it was hard to resist but did soo. Also it's card only.. This was only my finding and how I found it..

We visited here over weekend for lunch. Was packed so had short wait for table. Beautiful surrounding and fabulously decorated in time for Xmas holiday season. GRO has the most exquisite cakes on show. I didn't try any as my belly foo up with what I had eaten from my lunch which was pancakes with buttermilk chicken topped with fried egg. I have to say, I was not greatly impressed (sorry). My pancakes wete overdone, (burnt) as was the chicken all around the edges and I'd to cut those bits away. Service to our table was a bit scatty. Tea served, no sugar, teaspoons etc, then had to ask for extra milk (again forgotten but delivered eventually) Was nice to visit whilst in area, but not sure, despite it being a beautiful establishment inside, that I'd visit again.

Staff were helpful in finding out the gluten free options. There is a large menu with lots of brunch/lunch options. I would go again and would recommend booking at weekends to save waiting outside.

Lovely fresh new restaurant. Have now been a couple of times but my only complaint is personally I find the portion sizes too big which is very off putting for me.

Large chips....well small sweet bag full... pretty poor show for 8.00 with an unbattrted sausage, not a hot dog or a saveloy . I don't usually do bad write ups as usually just don't go again but that was seriously disgusting.....oh and not chip shop chops either

Drove to Dobbie's for lunch at 1pm today. The roll and sandwich counter was busy as usual, but the hot food counter was empty, I liked the look of the cauliflour cheese, a waited to be served, and waited, and waited. To my left people were being served, to my right ( coffee point) people we being served, i made a point of looking like I would like to be served, i noticed a staff member or possibly the cafe boss made a great job of ignoring me as she wandered backward and forth several times. Eventually I gave up, I shan't be going to Debbie's Ayr any more.

Had lunch here on a quiet Wednesday afternoon. Sits on a busy corner of the main street but once inside it opens into a bar area and good restaurant area and garden overlooking the river( and boatyard). Menu has a good selection of classic pub food. Took a little time for our meal to arrive but as is was freshly made this was not a problem. The boatyard burger was one of the best burgers I have had in years and my wife was delighted with the chicken pie with mash and fresh veg. The chef knows how to cook!! If you are in Girvan this place is worth a visit for the food and the view.
