Stayed over for a night in our campervan. EHU worked great, owner was able to supply a connector for our adapter! Had a few drinks in the pub before an early close due to being very quiet. Kitchen was shut for the weekend but the landlord recommended a good takeaway as offered plates and cutlery, very handy! Amenities was basic but was able to get a shower and use of the toilets 24hours. Would stay again if in the area. Very quiet area, minimum noise. Dog friendly in the pub which is always a bonus.

Lovely setting/ decor and friendly staff but limited sunday menu and the pork was tough and fatty. Told waiter who said they would pass the feedback on to chef but I didn’t get an apology or any reduction on bill (I didn’t ask for one but since I didn’t eat it I though they would have offered). Wouldn’t rush back but everyone else in my group was happy with their beef roast dinners so maybe I chose badly

We camped here over the weekend and couldn’t have asked for more. The landlord and landlady couldn’t have provided more for us, they went above and beyond and we are so grateful. We had the bar kept open later for us and a gorgeous full english in the morning. Only 15£ for the camping pitch, with hot showers, toilets, and fridges provided. So much stunning country side around, 100% recommend to everyone.

Had stayed over with friends in Wrexham the night before which ended up a late / heavy night so needed a full English (or Welsh in this case!) breakfast. It was a lovey day so decided to go the back lanes back to Chester. Our friends told us about this place recently starting breakfast at the weekend. It did not disappoint in the slightest, perfect breakfast - bacon, sausage and black pudding all supplied from a local farm we were told (and it tasted like it), perfectly cooked. Highly recommend this if you want a great breakfast at the weekend.

Menu isn't the widest range but the items on it are well priced (below £10 per main) and are good sized portions even for a big water like myself. It's a cosy venue which soon fills up. Staff were friendly and welcoming. If in the area I'd go again.

We visited this pub last weekend while researching family history in the area. Never been here before but looked nice as we drove past. What a lovely pub it turned out to be. The owner (Gary) was very welcoming and the pub had a lovely traditional atmosphere. We had a drink and ordered some toasted sandwiches - quality ingredients and very reasonably priced. From what I can see there is a camp-site with facilities behind the pub, which is perfectly located for anyone visiting North Wales or West Cheshire / Chester area. We had never been here before but felt they treated us like regulars and will certainly be going back there next time we are in the area. Thoroughly recommended !

Came here for Mother’s Day as it was the only place we could get a reservation at short notice. What a great surprise. When I saw the prices on the menu my expectations were low (in line with the prices), but the food was excellent. No, it’s not fancy and the surroundings aren’t upmarket, but the welcome was friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The Tempranillo was lovely too and there was no trouble getting an alcohol free beer for my partner, who was driving. Menu choice was limited but no one had trouble choosing something they could eat. The haloumi fries were the best I’d ever tasted. Would definitely visit again.

After many years we decided as a family to give the Griffin a try for dinner on Thursday last week, because we knew there was new management from before, and the online menu looked appealing and reasonably priced. It turned out to be the BEST choice because we had a really lovely experience in this little place! Despite the horrible weather there were some local guys sat at the bar putting the world to rights when we arrived, just exactly the atmosphere you hope to still see in a village pub. The owner Gary welcomed us and showed us our table and then let us try the two cask bitters before ordering our drinks. There was a lovely wood burner at the end of the room, and just plain and simple tables and chairs with no fuss and frills, which we totally loved. The menu was just right, and we loved the little introduction at the front mentioning the cats who sadly were missing from the pub the night of our visit, because we love animal friendly pubs! Luckily a local lady brought her adorable rescue dog with her a bit later on and he sat up next to the bar keeping an eye on proceedings which was just brilliant!

I did not think these places still exist. I thought we all had to eat mass-produced food from major pub chains who have an evil plan to take over the world. Fantastic, welcoming atmosphere, happy locals, fantastic food, great Prices, lovely location, £15 camping. Don't expect an al-a-cart dining. Expect a lovely, well cooked, juicy streak, with home made onion rings and a nice pint served with a smile by a person wearing jeans. Five stars because you could not have done better. Well done. A busy night very well supported by both visitors and locals. The beer was excellent, and no long waiting times. The only disappointment for me was that the music finished to early at 11.00pm. How dare licencing laws prevent the continuation of a great night.Oh well, look forward to the next one!. I have to say that Gary and Jo have done an excellent job of turning a pub that despite its charms was not a place I drank in regularly, into a warm and friendly local. Everywhere is spotlessly clean, and most noticeable in the gents toilets. To me that goes a long way. If the standards are exceptional in that area, I have no doubt that they are throughout.

We stayed in a hotel a mile away and after reading the review for the pub we decided to have dinner here. Entering the pub I was so happy, it was an old style pub, nothing glamorous just a pool table, several tables and seats at the bar, my idea of a proper pub. Ordered a round of drinks and asked for some menus. I don't if it is because I work in London and live in Surrey that I thought the £17 we were charged for a 9" pizza, chilli con carne and fish and chips was very cheap that the meals weren't going to be that good (despite reading the reviews) but there was three empty plates at the end, we all really enjoyed our food. We normally come up this part of Wales once a year and will definitely be coming back to the Griffin again.

We camped here on a Friday and Saturday night. A good sized field and not at all full so we had a little corner to ourselves. The facilities are basic, but perfectly adequate for the price - plenty of hot water, toilet roll and soap in the loos, an effective shower and a sink for dishes, cleaned daily. The Griffin is about a 25 minute walk from Rossett (and the no. 1 bus route from Wrexham/Chester), though be cautious if you're walking with little ones or dogs as there's no pavement and a lot of blind bends. The owners, Paul and Amanda, checked with us regularly that we'd not been disturbed by the stag party also camping on the opposite side of the field, which we'd not been (I think they were at their most "laddish" when we were off site). The pub, like the campsite, is good value, friendly and no frills. Small and cosy, a mixture of locals and campers, with three real ales on draft when we were there. At £2.80 a pint, Amanda's own "Witches Brew" comes with our recommendation - delish! We ate there Friday night and had the carvery on Sunday. Despite a particularly meanspirted review further down this page, we can attest that the food IS homemade and good quality. Paul is keen to point out that they are a pub that does food, not a restaurant, so the menu isn't vast, and there can be a wait if it's busy, but he's really upfront about their limitations. We didn't have a wait at all and cleared our plates everytime. The steak and kidney pie was particularly good and the pork sizzler is a massive portion. MASSIVE! Good solid hearty pub grub. Nice tender meat on the carvery too which was particularly good value. Paul and Amanda are really nice, friendly and helpful hosts. It's clear that they want their customers to be happy (and their neighbours!), and they do everything they can to reasonably ensure this is the case, including managing expectations (that must be a balancing act with a stag party in residence but extremely well handled in our opinion). We had a great time and would definitely consider coming back. Thanks!

Paul and Amanda are a lovely couple and could not be more helpful and pleasant. Paul's meals are lovely and at great prices. We will be back! Thank you so much.

Part of a large group that attended a dinner. This pub is very small and can't really accommodate large groups very well. Very cramped. The meal was so so. The staff were friendly and very helpful. It was a Good atmosphere but I wouldn't go again for the food I have to say. It wasn't proper home cooked food. Tasted a bit like the bulk buy food places. Sorry Griffin Inn. Just my opinion...more like a pub you would call into for a drink.

Have been in The Griffin many times. Have always had a very warm welcome. The Landlord and Landlady can not do enough for you. They are soo friendly. The food is always fresh and tasty and very good value.Last week I asked if I could have a small buffet for a few people as it was my sons birthday. There was so much lovely food we even had to take some home with us. So if you are thinking of having a party or celebration I would not hesitate in recommending The Griffin as the place to hold it. The Sunday lunch is fab and a good price and very filling.

Visited on saturday evening, and should have walked out as soon as we entered! Ordered at the bar with drinks and were told the food may be a bit longer than normal as it was busy, this by the way consisted of a table of 8 across from us, after 40 minute's the waitress laid our table and told us the food would be out next. After an hour my sister asked politely if the food would be much longer as it was now 8:30pm and we would have to leave soon, at which point the waitress/bar lady was far from civil and seemed annoyed that we,d asked her! After her attitude we decided we would cancel the order, the chef then came out of the kitchen and told us he was plating our food up as we were leaving. At no point was there an apology. Would not recommend this pub to anyone and will definitely not be returning.

Called in just after Easter. They only had a limited menu available, but the food was lovely, I had the gammon and my wife had plaice. The chef and landlady were really friendly and went out of their way to make sure that we were looked after. They even tempted me with the sticky toffee pudding which was tasty and light. Not fine dining, but if you like freshly cooked, good value, hearty meals then well worth a visit.

Another fabulous Sunday lunch carvery at the Griffin. Chef's homemade soup is lovely. Quality fresh meat cooked with care to accompany a variety of veg, mash and roast potatoes. Friendly staff did everything they could to make sure we where ok. We live about 10 miles from the pub and come to stay on their caravan site quite often. We met up with family today and where given a very friendly welcome. This is a lovely country pub that serves lovely food.

Another fantastic evening at The Griffin Inn. Lovely fresh food. Chef apologised for the delay in serving (which wasn't a particularly long time) but we were fine with it. We would rather wait a bit and have fresh food than microwaved food rushed out like you get in some places. One of the many plus points about this pub is the fact that there is no music blaring in your ear and no TV at ridiculous volume, so you can have a conversation at a normal volume. Definitely one of my favourite places locally to eat.

We enjoyed a lovely meal here last night to celebrate our daughters birthday. They had been away to Scotland for a weekend break and we're looking forward to a hearty meal after their long journey. The party consisted of 6 adults and 4 children. The owners did everything possible for us to enjoy the occasion and checked on us throughout the evening to make sure everything was OK. The food was very tasty and along with the wood burning fires made for a very cosy country pub. We had the sharing combo's instead of a starter and they were fantastic. The children also liked the idea of a sharing platter. The mains were also very substantial and tasty and consisted of two Steak and ale pies one Salmon two chicken sizzlers and a burger. They all came with various vegetables dips etc. the owners couldn't have been more helpful and we will definitely be calling again. We have had two meals this year previously to the party and again they were first class. Three of the children had their mains from the children's menu.

Staying at the near by Best Western and needed somewhere local to eat. Me and my partner went in pretty late and ordered 2 steaks from the menu and a mixed starter. Even though we ordered towards closing time we did not feel rushed or uncomfortable, the owners made us feel very welcome and like nothing was a problem for them. The starter was huge for the price and when the steaks came out we where shocked at how big the portion size was, the food was perfectly cooked and you could tell it was all fresh and home made. anyone looking for an authentic home made meal at a very good price make sure you check out this place. Great value for money.

Unplanned lunch with mum n dad. Scampi, fish n chips & steak n ale pie. Followed by sticky toffee puddings. Lovely welcome. Lovely service. Great food...the steak n ale pie should be renamed "half a cow with some pastry on top" !!! Brilliant. The sticky toffee pudding was a delight. So light compared to some of the stodge that gets served up in some pubs. Can't recommend highly enough :)

Brought the family here for a Sunday cavery, after being recommended by a friend. And was not disappointed. The service was great and the food was outstanding, with a good selection of meats. It's a lovely family atmosphere and a nice and cosy pub, with log burners in each room keeping it nice and warm for this time of year. The whole family enjoyed the experience at the griffin Inn, and will most certainly be returning again soon.

The Griffin is the "Village Pub" in the hamlet of Trevalyn, a mile from Rossett.I have used this pub regularly when visiting my sister who lives in the area. It has always been a cosy (two log fires in winter) pub and we have had many a pre dinner (at home) drink in the pub, and also eaten there at least once during my regular visits. It has recently had a change of management and I met Paul and Amanda on my two visits this year.(O.K. Last year, between Christmas and New Year)The visit in question was made in the evening of the Sunday between Christmas and New Year, not the busiest night on the calendar for a village pub. We went in about 8.30 P.M. and there was but one customer at the bar.On asking if we were too late to eat, we would not have been surprised to get an affirmative reply, Paul said that he had just turned off the fryers but it would be no trouble to offer us a meal from a limited menu with a slight delay. This review is not about the quality of the food which was perfectly acceptable and probably better than the average pub for Scampi (my choice), but the cheerful manner in which the late arrival of customers asking to be fed was handled.Paul and Amanda are a lovely couple who certainly deserve to succeed with The Griffin in Trevalyn. Their plans for New Year's Eve included a free buffet for customers, and their Quiz Night, free chip butties. There is also a plan afoot to have a Burn's Night Celebration (to be confirmed)

We booked a table for eight but unfortunately due to illness only four of us were able to go. The hosts were fantastic, the food was delicious, It was all fresh home cooked! We had three courses and were absolutely 'stuffed' when we left. The pub is very old but there was a log fire in one room and a gas fire in the other. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Moved back to Whitchurch recently thought we would give it a try, Well driving up the drive we wasn't sure it was open no lights on the long driveway The table we sat at needed wiping the waitress didn't even notice it I had the burger which I must admit it was really really nice and at 13 quid was very reasonable My wife had the salmon which was a massive let down nearly 17 quid a small piece of salmon with potatoes and veg (which was about 5 pieces of broccoli and nothing else ) As for the drinks very expensive

We tried a selection of products from here including a sausage roll, large oggie and a pie. All were excellent, pastry and filling alike and good value, especially as we bought multiple items for which a discount is offered. Recommended
