We loved this typically Welsh pub. It was next door to our Airbnb in Trevor. We arrived around 8PM on the night of the opening ceremonies of the Paris Olympics. They were full of locals and the kitchen was closing. The owner came out and said they would keep the kitchen open, sat us down and turned on a second TV so we could watch the ceremonies comfortably. We ordered fish and chips, curry, and the steak and ale pie. All of the food was delicious and fresh. The steak and ale pie was the best we had the whole trip.

Staff were so accommodating and even let us watch the Olympic opening ceremonies there. Food was delicious!

Fantastic Sunday roast. Best I've had in ages. Traditional roast with all the trimmings, proper homemade & delicious. Staff super friendly & welcoming. Catered to our very fussy son, very accommodating. Lovely garden areas for kids to play around. Very relaxed atmosphere, perfect for a sunny Father's day 😊

Very nice to pup, friendly staff and good beer. Watched a band there. Sun was shining, very good day.

We went in for lunch today as we where visiting the aqueduct, we got a lovely roast dinner with braising steak then cake and ice cream afterwards , it's a shame everybody goes to the pub by the aqueduct and waits an hour for food when this little gem is just up the road ,would definitely recommend

A great place. The only things on the menu are things that they can cook for you! The food was good at really low prices and the beer was excellent. This is what I want to see in a pub rather than a menu as long as your arm with everything precooked and 'pinged'. So much better than other local offerings.

This is a proper pub serving great food which will definitely fill you up, great service from the very friendly owners, good choice of beer and sports if you want it ,big garden area if the weather is good,lots of banter with the locals good fun ,a proper pub

We have stopped at this pub a few times in the past but had not visited for a while (only because we have not been in the area) On our way to Wales so knew it was a good place to stop for lunch. Always had good food, everyone is very friendly and we will be stopping there again on our way back home

This pub is fantastic. We had Steak and Ale pie and three curry, chips and Naan. The pie pastry was delicious and was full of steak. The curry was absolutely delicious too lovely and creamy. Then we went for puddings. The Jam Sponge and custard was light and fluffy and the apple crumble and custard was delicious. If you want good home cooking at a very reasonable price, this is the place to go. Without hesitation, we would highly recommend The Duke of Wellington in Acrefair and you won’t be disappointed.

Food very disappointing ordered the fish & chips it was a cheap frozen battered fish that was hard & tasteless my friend had the homemade pie the pastry was way to thick to eat all in all most of the food went back to the kitchen no comment from staff when told it wasn't enjoyable so obviously used to people not eating their food all in all would Not recommend it

Pub re-opened with new owners 04/2023. Lovely couple running the pub, children and dogs welcome inside and in the amazing beer garden. Great home cooked food and a plenty of choice of drinks.

A lovely old world pub ideal for those who have been walking or are looking for a stop off for a refreshment, fully enclosed child/dog safe beer garden at front with lots of good quality tables and a tractor the kids can sit on play on. Good selection of drinks on and off tap, friendly staff and locals. Well worth a stop off. Not a big family food pub inside, more of a traditional old man's pub and bar but lovely nonetheless.

Just visited recently with family. Better than it was the last time. Needs to do food, just a simple pub menu will be sure to attract the custom that is required. Did meet new licencees, need to be a bit more welcoming. This is not a criticism, just advice.

Came to visit when with family had some lovely times . I know times have been difficult with covid etc, it's nice to see that the Duke is open, but I think that a bit, no, a lot more effort is needed .

This is one of the best places to go for food and in the summer she puts a bouncey castle up by the seating area and the kids love it and the food is very good and its cheap aswell and they done a kids menu aswell the staff r great u should try it u wont be disappointed believe me.

Popped in for dinner at the Duke Of Wellington, was made to feel very welcome by the lady behind the bar. My dog and I sat in a very family orientated bar, it was lovely that kids and dogs are made so welcome. From the menu I ordered the ham and eggs, not something I would normally order but it was recommended by the lady at the bar... Well.... Who knew that ham and eggs could taste so good?? It was lovely, I thoroughly enjoyed my visit here, I felt very welcome and comfortable and the food was lovely and great value for money.

The staff are friendly. The food was lovely. Nice and little country pub.good value for money. Made us feel very welcome. The dog even got a little treat.

Had lunch here after a boat ride on the nearby famous aqueduct at Llangollen. Located just a 2 minute drive uphill from Jones the Boats. Had a steak and Guinness pie served with freshly mashed potatoes and peas. The included side of brown gravy was delicious and very large. Everything was hot and delicious. Followed it with a really outstanding dessert. A summer fresh berry crumble was served hot and covered in fresh cream. It was outstanding...not sugary sweet. The owner, Seanee, was delightful to us. She cooks everything herself and even lives in the historic house. The place has been a pub since AT LEAST 1852! She said the house was between 200 and 300 years old! Way cool history and atmosphere. Food was very reasonably priced, was served promptly and the portions were large. Highly recommended!

Staying locally and went for Sunday lunch. Friendly staff and even agreed to make my wife vegetarian lasagne which was much appreciated. Fantastic roast with super tender beef and beautifully cooked. Cosy atmosphere and seems popular with locals. Recommend booking as gets very busy.

A cosy pub with lovely inexpensive home cooked food. A couple of real ales on the go and a TV and jukebox, plus an outdoor play area for children. The staff are really nice and friendly.

Had a very nice meal with the family. Lady who took our order behind bar and served our drinks, who also cooked and also waited on us did a great job at multi_tasking.

Brilliant welcome, phoned on route to Brass Band contest in Wrexham. Group of 17, all catered for lovely home cooked meals. Watched the match and all enjoyed the food. Would definitely recommend this pub, staff brilliant catering for us all at short notice (30 minutes). Couldn't do enough. Thank you all xx

Very friendly and beautiful food at amazing prices. Portion sizes are large too. Definitely a favourite local pub. Toilets are outdoor and a bit rough though

The service is great. Didn't enjoy the oven chips, the peas like bullets or the fatty ham. The eggs were however cooked perfectly and my partner enjoyed the cheesy mash with the chicken and leak.

This is a classic traditional small pub that does good quality food at a very reasonable price. The service was good and the food came out quicker than i expected. It is a small pub with beams in the ceiling and is quite homely. My wife had ham and cheese sandwiches with chips and the meal was big. I had sausage with onion gravy. Very tasty. The tea and coffee come in large mugs - great value.. Well worth a call in if you are passing. Far more economical than eating down the road in Llangollen

Was really looking forward to our roast at this place to celebrate my fiance 40th birthday with our children but what a disappointment the food was awful I would be ashamed to serve a meal like that. Mash was lumpy roasties were shameful meat didn't even taste like Lamb portion was shocking for the price just completely tasteless wouldn't waste your time going here. Waitress was lovely but the food was such a disappointment wanted to refuse to pay. All you could hear was ping from the microwave. Never again

The two stars are for the friendly staff. We seen some reviews and sounded great but the warmest thing about the microwaved dry food were the plates not to sure what meat we had but we were told it was lamb 🤔 I don't think we will go their again for food unfortunately..

Always a warm welcome from the hostess,as I am not a regular all year me and my mate always call several times during the shooting season for good pint of beer.

Very very disappointed. After reading other reviews we thought this place would be great, as we had just moved to the area. How wrong could have I been . food was cold and so was the service, “service” was non existent to be honest. !! we were talked to in a very poor manner, infront of our 6year old daughter which almost tipped me to the point of losing my temper. But due to the fact our daughter was with us I kept cool. This place feels almost like if your face doesn’t fit ! Then expect the worst . Anyway back to our 40min drive for a decent Sunday roast with warm welcome oh and service !!!!

We was walking along the canal and bumped into a man ( John) and his dog (Gracie) who recommend this pub for it great food. He wasn't wrong. Lovely pub friendly staff great food. Just around the corner from the Pontcysyllte aqueduct.
