Had an excellent meal in here the food is 100% quality and locally sourced the service is outstanding and great value for money. Tom the chef has an outstanding flare for quality and presentation would recommend this place to anyone passing. Also the decor has a quality style and feel to it and has a lovelly relaxing atmosphere. Overall a 5*establishment. Looking forward to my next visit.

First time visiting for Sunday lunch for an 18th birthday and there were 11 of us altogether. I thought the service was fantastic! I googled the menu ahead of arriving as I have vegan options and the wellington wasn’t available (I was worried there wouldn’t be any alternative) however I was not disappointed as staff came over to explain what they could do instead (which was a lovely touch; usually it’s that’s what’s available and that’s it in other places). They whipped me up a delicious mushroom delight with all the roast dinner trimmings! And I was in for a treat with the vegan tart for desert which was also delicious. The inn had a lovely atmosphere and we thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon. I can’t wait to return and try the vegan wellington! Who knew there was a gem down the road from us!

We stayed here for 1 night had evening meal and breakfast next day. The Griffin Inn has a real lovely vibe to it beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean. The staff were friendly and service excellent. The food was delicious and breakfast tasty. The bedroom was clean and everything you needed, especially love the heated towel rail that's a luxury to have white fluffy warm towels. Will definitely be returning. Thank you to Sian and her team. After watching ‘four in a bed’, I wouldn't allow myself to stay here as I found the owner and her sister in law’s behaviour to be despicable. To pay only £30 quid for another B&B was highly offensive. The breakfast alone was worth that! Just very petty.

Visited last Friday for a beer on my way home. The web site advertised "We also have real ales from Purple Moose Brewery, Cwrw Ial, Big Hand Brewery and Facers. ", I was very disappointed to find only one real ale available, in fact anywhere that only has one real ale rings alarm bells, it usually means that they don't sell a lot of it because it is not well kept. Unfortunately this was the case here. I will not be returning.

A welcome in the hillsides! The Griffin Inn is just the sort of roadside place you hope to find when touring Wales; whether for just a drink, some good pub grub or as a base. A friend and I stayed here on a walking holiday last week. The newly refurbished en suite rooms, are warm and spacious and look out over beautiful countryside. Our evening meal and breakfast were delicious and there was plenty to choose from. I have a raft of allergies which they dealt with well. The staff were efficient and friendly and they and the owner Sian, went out of their way to help us.

We visited for Sunday lunch today. Sorry to say we were disappointed. Our phone booking had not been completed. We were lucky to get a table (which was reserved for another name). We were served the wrong meal. The requested separate gravy was in a jug on the plate in a pool of gravy covering the whole meal. Mint sauce was dumped & spilt on the table. Service was perfunctory from the younger staff, one of whom appeared not to know the answers to any questions. Roast potatoes were awful. Under cooked & not crispy. Buried under a pile of meat. We aren’t in the habit of complaining but we both felt unwell when we got home. On the positive side the meat was tasty & veg well cooked. Sorry.

It's been a good while since I visited the Griffin. So many people said we should, so, on a whim, we visited on a Friday night. Staff were really lovely, found us a quiet table and the food was really excellent! The venue has been refurbished in such a tasteful way. It feels homey and comfortable with beautiful natural features like exposed stone walls, fireplaces, and wooden floors, which make you feel right at home. The menu has a great variety of foods, including veggie options, something a little fancier if that's what you're after but also really great casual 'pub food' with great portion sizes. We'll definitely be back!

Called on a Friday evening for a cup of tea followed by a meal and drinks. Lovely old, atmospheric pub with lots of character, open fires and very friendly and helpful staff. The clientele who were almost all local were also friendly and pleasant. The pot of tea for two had only one tea bag in it. The dry white wine was not dry - more medium. Fish and chips were very good, although the chips were actually potato wedges. Fish pie was disappointing. It had obviously not been in the oven and the potato had dissolved into the white sauce. Vegetables were not very warm and I don't think peas are actually seasonal in March!

Having climbed the local mountain Moel Fammau, and being from out of area, we set off in "any direction" looking for lunch. Having stopped at The Druid (down the road), but not bothering to sit down, because the blackboard menu was boring and expensive, we resumed our search of a welcoming hostelry. The sign outside The Griffin said NEW CHEF, recognising this as a positive, we stopped, were warmly welcomed, with a coffee and the menu, we quickly agreed we would be happy with every dish on the menu, including the vegetarian options. After careful consideration, we settled on 3 starters.... Garlic King Prawns, Black Pudding with Bacon and Stilton Stack, and Breaded Whitebait. We also had a portion of Chunky Chips. WE couldn't finish all the food, as the portions were so generous, the food was absolutely excellent, and will certainly call in again, when we next visit this lovely corner of the UK.

Went there for dinner with three friends. We use to love this place, but it's now in a dire situation. The food is the worst I ever had in a pub. My girlfriends cod was inedible, proper disgusting. She send it back and the owner apologized, he said they had anew cook. But they shouldn't be serving food like in that state. My burger was literally some cheap supermarket beef overcooked slumped in a cold bun, no mayo, no lettuce, no tomato, no nothing, just a crap burger on bread. And it costs £10. This place is a write-off, avoid like the pest.

Stel je voor: je komt naar beneden om te ontbijten. Alles is stil.

The good part about The Griffin Inn was the staff, lovely and helpful. The decor is great also, a real good place with lots of potential.. Nevertheless the place was really let down with the amount of kids running around throughout the restaurant, as the only people in the whole place - the kids were obviously family members of staff or owners! It really puts you off when kids are constantly passing your table - its not what you exactly want when your trying to enjoy your meal. (Nothing against children, obviously not their fault but if management is reading this I would take it has a suggestion that children should be somewhere else to play and frollock instead of in the pub!)The meal would of been much better if the food was hotter - the chips where cold which really put the food down. We didn't fancy staying for dessert when all you can hear is shouting and screaming kids.Won't be visiting again.

We stopped here in the hope of finding a lovely lunch on a rainy Sunday en route home from North Wales. Outside they advertised a new chef and new menu and home cooked food all day. We were looking forward to something warm and hearty but sadly the reality was something very different. Firstly, the service was very slow and the staff were disinterested, and although there was only one other table of customers it took 45 minutes for the food to come out. We ordered 3 roast dinners,a bangers and mash and a children's mini pizza and chips. On arrival of the dishes each of us were utterly disappointed. The roast pork was hard and dry, the roast beef much the same ,there was an absence of the advertised 'seasonal vegetables' which later arrived and were just grey and over cooked pieces of broccoli and green beans. In the words of the 11 year old the pizza was 'rubbery gloop'. I asked the waitress politely if they had any more pork as I could not eat what had been served and this was replaced with a marginally better portion. We ordered desserts and coffee in a hope to salvage matters but really wished we hadn't as it took so long for them to come out. The microwaved sticky toffee pudding was fine but not worth £6.95 and the child's vanilla ice cream cost the same. Lastly, a group of children who appeared to belong to staff continually ran around the bar and restaurant and were quite disruptive whilst we were eating. We expressed our disappointment when paying the bill but staff didn't appear to care. It was our 1St experience at the Griffin inn and although we drive this route regularly we will not be back and wouldn't recommend it to any passing traveler. It really did promise much from the signs outside but we left with heavy hearts and much lighter pockets.

Asked for coffee: told that the coffee machine was out of action, but was brought large cups of good instant coffee. The dining room decor could be improved; and I'm not a fan of Robinson's beer, but the house wine was a tasty Merlot. If I'm in the area I shall go back - and I would certainly recommend the Griffin wholeheartedly.

Our group ate here for two nights and we were very well looked after especially as we had spent those two days walking on Offa's Dyke so had worked up big appetites. The portions were generous and the quality very good. We will be back I hope.

We visted on a recent Sunday. We found the place did not live up to the other reviews. It seems like one young lass was running the whole place on her own, and could not keep up with the small number of customers spread through out the large pub.Food was average, at best, with items on the menu not being avaiable. The place is typical of pubs in the area, tired looking, as customers drift away in the wake of cheep booze from supermarkets, and the smoking ban.

Rang from Clywd Gate for transport to The Griffin and were collected by a friendly young lady, who showed us to our room and told us that if there was anything we needed to see her as she was working all evening. The Griffin seems to have an excellent chef - I had cranberry, mushroom and brie wellington with salad and chips - it was absolutely delicious. Breakfast the next morning was a little short on fruit/cereal choice - but the young lady cooking the poached eggs did an excellent job.The chef had prepared a beautiful filled roll for the requested packed lunch - fortunately we had fruit and bars from the previous day to supplement this.We enjoyed our stay here - and once a sustaining packed lunch can be provided - it will be a great place to stop for walkers.

Excellent pub, B and B. We stayed a the Griffin on our offas dyke walking tour and I have to say that this is a lovely pub run by the brilliant Hugh, you even picked us up and dropped us off to the path which was just what we needed. The bedrooms are fine given the price but the food is excellent. The lamb was excellent and we were well looked after by the waitress / barmaid who was quite charming. If you are into your pub B and B, this is welcoming. Ps the Posh Fish and Chips is highly recommended.

Returned with my sister for her birthday! Started with wine and Drinks and a pint of Dizzy Blonde love that name ! As a few of us mix of food from Lamb shank delicious , posh Fish and chips - sister said best she had ever had and love the rustic homemade chips. I had the Griffin Burger was brilliant and there was a tasty Hunters Chicken and a huge homemade lasagna with Garlic bread . The host was very welcoming and his staff are young polite a bubbly not often seen theses days - nothing is any trouble which is a brilliant attitude to have. This is value for money with banter and atmosphere and great food. Well done Griffin we will be back again !

My two sons and I were made to feel very welcome when we stumbled upon this nice inn after exploring the area. Since they had toys in the family room and served tasty grub, we will be back!

A recent visit to the Griffin proved to be a pleasant evening for myself and guests, as we had last visited some 50 years previously.A pleasant evening in fine weather and glorious scenery, ( 0f course ) A welcome by the young lady member of staff or licensee, we're not sure as she appeared to be doing everything apart from the actual cooking, but nonetheless a warm reception and continued attention to detail and our requirements.

I was looking for a stop on the way home from Holyhead and found the Griffin on TripAdvisor. Thought we'd give it a go and wasn't disappointed. One of the best pub meals I've had and the beer was good too.The landlord makes you feel welcome but isn't over the top. The bar and waiting staff are also efficient and friendly. The locals are lucky to have a pub like this, let's hope that they support it.

I always choose to come to the Griffin Inn when wanting to eat out as the food is amazing and the staff are very welcoming, friendly and helpful. The pub has a great atmosphere. I usually get the lasagne as it is to die for, but have also tried the steak and ale pie, welsh rarebit, pate and burger and they all taste great. I would always recommend the Griffin as somewhere to eat out and drink in Ruthin. Thank you to all the staff and the head chef.

Nice pub which changed owners last year (and became much better) just after we moved 9 miles away! Now we stop off after walks up Moel Famau. Limited selection of own brewery beers but we usually go for a Dizzy Blonde which is nice enough. I really like their chunky homemade chips (though they're still not quite at the standard of the chips at the White Horse at Hendrdrwydd, those are delish and come with garlic mayo!). Food is generally good, not amazing, but ok pub food at a reasonable price and fair portion sizes. Overall a nice place to visit, very pleasant surroundings, and a good menu on which to refuel after a long walk.

A very clean and cosy little restaurant with friendly helpful staff. The food menu was just a little bit pricey but the food was worth it.
