Central location - busy cafe - queue for coffees - plenty staff - typical Greggs style - friendly barista - had a joke about Scottish money - noted that this shop issued loyalty cards in paper form whereas locally in Perth - Greggs have been told about this but no action has been taking in the Perth shops -- is this a "training" issue?

Husband is in a wheelchair which I push - difficult at the moment as I have very bad back pain. The staff could see our difficulties, took our order at the table and delivered the food and drinks to us. Husband enjoys Greggs bakes and they were as good as ever. All staff were very helpful but Molly deserves a special mention.

A big fan of Greggs ,most every high street has an outlet, walking around the streets of Durham we chanced upon this Greggs down Saddler Street. Your typical Greggs, neat and tidy, a glass fronted serving bar showcases the goodies on offer, staff in here were super friendly, my twin brother Stephen and I purchased 4 sausage rolls, £3 for four sausage rolls, absolutely great value for money and in my opinion the best sausage rolls in the United Kingdom, love them,we munched our pastries outside and for a first time visit to this particular Greggs we were totally impressed, its easy to locate along Saddler Street, most definitely well worth checking out.

Went for breakfast, stood in the socially distanced queue outside for 20 minutes, then a further 10 minutes inside, in which (I assume she was the manager) a very angry blonde haired woman behind the counter barked orders at the customers that on 5 were allowed in the shop, so we all had to move back, some had to go back outside, and she constantly barked orders constantly at the staff she was working with (mini hitler) whilst packing bags and bags of breakfast sandwiches for dual in and just eat orders (she obvs couldn’t deal with the pressure). When I eventually got served I ordered 2 bacon sausage egg baguettes and 2 of the same but in buns, 2 coffees and a mince pie. I was informed that there was no bacon and I’d have to wait 5 minutes more (I didn’t mind considering how long I’d already waited). We really enjoy Greggs breaky sandwiches, I’ve never had a bad one yet, until today, they didn’t taste like the ones we normally get, my sausages were over cooked and greasy, the omelette was burnt and tasteless, the hubby didn’t get any sausages on his, the kids took one bite of theirs and threw them in the bin. I also had to remind the girl about my mince pie before paying twice and then again when she gave me our sandwiches. All of the staff were miserable throughout, and were rude in their manner to the customers. Furthermore there was nowhere to stand whilst waiting for the food as the restaurant part was blocked off for just eat orders, then people who had rang in could ignore walk to the front and pay in the normal service area, pushing customers who had queued and were on being served to the back of priorities, also they could just walk into the shop so it would seem that the covid rule of only 5 in the shop doesn’t apply to them!!! What a farcical experience!!!I think this Greggs needs staff training, for speedy, forward planning in peak times and customer service. I also they either need more staff if they are to keep taking orders, or not take orders at all and work with current staffing levels on a Saturday given that it’s a busy day.

Have heard of Gregg's for a few years. Don't believe we have any at home. I wanted to have my sister try a sausage roll for the first time We found this one right down the street from the cathedral. Was surprised by the amount of choices. So we added a sausage, bean, and cheese pasty to share. The ladies behind the counter were very friendly and helpful. Definitely a must do again. Lunch was 4 pounds 70 for the two of us.

I sat in with lunch up stairs and when I got up stairs the bin was over flowing with rubbish and they were trays with rubbish on them near the bin so I sat there for a moments until I saw a staff member coming up stairs to clean the bin they put rubbish that were on the tries in a new bin bag then took the rubbish out and got put a new bin bag in. They could of cleans the tables abit more by spraying them to make the more clean and to give them a whipe down.

Firstly, I love Greggs but me and my friend went in today, paid to sit in and then asked to leave before we had even sat down because we hadn’t paid to sit in when we definitely paid the extra 30p! It was so busy and embarrassing and the lady didn’t even give me my receipt at the till so I had no proof. I felt that this was definitely done because we were younger (only 16) so we couldn’t say anything back. However, my actual pasty was lovely :)

I work on the retail park so I frequently visit Greggs and there is never enough staff to serve the queue. I've never known it take 20 minutes to be served in a Greggs before but it can happen regularly in this one. Only ever a maximum of 3 staff in at any one time, and only ever a maximum of 2 serving. It's not good enough and shows no respect to the customers who have to wait while the staff just seem to pretend the queues aren't there. Not good enough.

Whoever manages this cafe needs to step up and manage it properly. I would never eat here again in fact it was so bad I didn't eat my purchases. Condiment area needs a deep clean and the staff although not rude definitely need some training in friendliness. If you intend visiting here , and i hope someone who works here sees this review , then check the state of toilet and dining area first . I really do not like the way this outlet is set out, although it remains popular for eats on the go. The access/queuing/browsing area is narrow and, as it is the only entrance straight off a busy pedestrian area,it gets easily cluttered with customers going in to and leaving the restaurant area. It doesn't take many people waiting to get served for those at the back of the queue to clutter up the street outside. Embarrassing and inconvenient really as passers by jostle to get past the narrow pavement (can be miserable too for those waiting to get in as there is no shelter in bad weather).. If dining in (and paying a little extra for the privilege) then the restaurant area at the back of the shop is clean, functional and basic (imagine an old cafe but without the charm). The staff are friendly and food quality is usually good with a fair variety. Pretty good value for money and quality control is adequate. I prefer to go at quieter times and try to avoid lunchtimes at all costs. Unfortunately this is precisely when Durham's many tourists and visitors will be most hungry looking for tasty treats. A redesign of the reception area is long overdue me thinks...

I first encountered Greggs Cafe early one summer morning a couple of years ago. During the Lindisfarne Gospels the cathedral had offered people the chance to take photos of the Flower Festival as the sun rose which meant a very early start. As we wandered back through the streets of Durham at about 7.30 we were longing for a cup of coffee when suddenly the doors of Greggs opened and we realised that not only was it a take-away but it had seats. Even better, upstairs is a very elegant room with lots of tables. Look up at the windows above the shop next time you walk along Saddler Street.

My mother and I stood in the queue one recent busy Saturday and were annoyed by the fact that some people were pushing past us to go further inside. Just as we were second in the queue, I noticed a sign on the counter which isn't visible until you're right next to the counter, which informs you that if you're eating inside there is a different queue, again not visible from the queue as it snakes out of the door. I moved into that queue and when it was my turn asked the friendly staff if there was a sign on the door telling you to move to this queue if eating inside. Another disinterested member of staff said, no, it's here on the counter. I pointed out that this was not visible to me until I had waited in the queue for a while. The coffee and food is standard Greggs fare. But they should communicate better with their customers.

I can't remember the last time I bought a Greggs' sandwhich. It was late around 5.15pm and I was hungry. I went into the Sundeland branch on Blandford Street. I scanned the shelves and grabbed a Mexican Chicken Oval Bite at £2.50. When I got home to eat it half an hour later, all I can say is it was not fit for human consumption! The bread bun was rock hard, especially underneath. This was the entire bun - all dried out and stale. While I did not expect it to be super fresh, I still expected the bun to be soft and edible. There was 3 slithers of chicken inside with some limp lettuce leaves. I know I shouldn't be expecting Pret a Manger standards, but surely expecting a sandwhich made of soft white bread at full price is perfectly reasonable? Am I asking for too much?! I took a bite of the sandwich and could no longer finish the stale out of date, should have been binned the day before sandwich! I believe that the sandwich must have been at least 2 or 3 days old. Instead of throwing it out, Greggs' kept it to sell to unsuspecting customers. All I can say is that I will never return. Greggs is a huge let down, disgusting, money grabbing franchise. I may as well have thrown my money down the drain as I had to throw it out!

Greggs are simply getting greedier and greedier. What started off as a low cost snack/ bakery store has now become a greedy corporate empire with little tricks like keeping the sandwich fillings right in the middle and so when the bread is cut it makes it look as if there is a decent amount of filling. When you open it up you find that there's hardly anything there at all. The pictures of how to construct sandwiches to make them look full are sometimes visible when you see the staff referring to them. For what you get for your money, be it a sandwich or a pastry/ pie, the value once offered has disappeared a long time ago and you find yourself looking at a cold, overcooked sausage roll wondering how they have the nerve to charge the price they do for what , in effect, is something that costs pence to produce.

Typical bakery restaurant. Pleasant enough but nothing overtly special. However, there is more than one branch of Greggs in Durham and they have very different pricing structures. A four pack of sausage rolls at this Greggs costs £2.35. However, the branch of Greggs on North Road, which is only a couple of minutes walk away, charges £1 for the same pack. The reason for the price difference is that a new branch of Cooplands has opened on North Road a couple of doors away from Greggs. Cooplands regular price for a 4 pack of sausage rolls is £1 (and they are better tasting too). Will be avoiding this branch of Greggs from now on.
