Great food, great service. I definitely recommend this place !

Lovely for brunch, lots of options on the menu. Service staff are very nice, and the atmosphere inside is cozy and modern. Food was lovely too, we had one full Scottish breakfast (10/10), and one poached eggs with hollandaise sauce (7/10). Also had a mocha but couldn’t finish it as it was full of bits and wasn’t done properly or drinkable. Would probably still go back though and recommend!

Food was tasty with decent portion sizes, if a bit expensive. The pancake stack is £15.95 for example. You only get your table for an hour which does feel a bit of rush. They do serve quickly however. Knocking points off for the 12.5% service charge on the bill which I absolutely hate. The staff did remove it on request though with no complaints.

What a lovely little place this is! We booked via opentable a few hours before we visited for breakfast, so glad we did as it’s a small venue and very popular, we seen lots being turned away who hadn’t booked, this was midweek so we hadn’t expected it to as busy. We ordered 2 coffees which were sublime, so smooth 10/10. For food we had 1 full Scottish which was again very very good, nothing tasted greasy, you could taste it was excellent produce and went down a treat. Other had eggs florentine on GF toast with added feta… again so so fresh and tasted incredible. Staff were very very friendly, non intrusive and happy to answer menu questions and make recommendations. If you’re looking for a great breakfast spot in Edinburgh this is a great place to try. We will definitely be back when in the area.

Solo traveller here! I decided to try Greenwoods because it had been marketed to me as "the best brunch in Edinburgh" and I can definitely say that that wasn't a lie! The food was great, the staff was super friendly and the restaurant had a very welcoming feeling to it! I was eating alone and I didn't feel judged in any sort of way. I would definitely advise people to book before going, because it's a very busy restaurant! I will definitely be back to try something else on the menu!

Visited on a Saturday morning for breakfast. Good job we’d booked as it was very busy, but the staff do a great job. Had the Shakshuka, and it was delicious.

Ordered the wild mushroom brochetta (can’t remember spelling). Mushrooms were cold while everything else was warm/hot.

I went after seeing some tiktoks. It's so worth it. I'd travel from London just for the scrambled eggs. Absolutely stunning 😍 good for vegans too, apparently it was worth it as we had to wait for about 20 mins for a table. It's a small restaurant but didn't feel like we were squashed in any way

Super breakfast,we didn’t reserve the table for 4 person, but I recommend to make reservations, because the restaurant was full of people at 8 a.m.Service charge was already in the bill ( around 12%).

Absolutely wonderful breakfast, we didn't book for a table of 4 and they managed to squeeze us in, but I'd definitely recommend booking as we just got really lucky! The whole place was packed out. The tables are quite close together, but it didn't affect our meal or the atmosphere. Our food was spectacular, the pancakes were light and fluffy, and the home made hash browns were perfect. The mushroom and goats cheese on toast was sublime, with the right amount of cheese to add a softness to the bread. All of the staff were clearly working extremely hard, and the bill does include a service charge, but we all thought this was well deserved and well earned. Everything came out very quickly, and we didn't spend forever waiting. We'll be back next time we're in Edinburgh, but with a reservation next time!!

Staff were fine, place was busy but nothing to complain about, we ordered the pancake stack and they tasted like sponges. No flavour. I thought it was maybe just me but the whole group confirmed. I regretted paying £25 for breakfast and a drink (just for me!) but did not want to make a fuss. Wetherspoons is close by and even their food would probably be nicer and cheaper! Very overrated.

We didn’t booked but thought we would try get a table anyway as a walk in. They seated almost straight away even though they were busy and the service was great. Really great food to top it off.

This place was on my radar for breakfast. We did not have a reservation but we were able to get in because we arrived about 15 minutes before opening time. They only have 2 or 3 tables available for walk ins so make sure to reserve or get there early!! It’s worth it!!

Food was smashing actually. Wait time surprisingly wasn’t bad. But the seating was awful. So close together feel like you’re going to elbow someone. What seemed like barely more than a shot of espresso but was a “mocha” costs £5 and comes in a very very small cup. Servers were kind.

Came in looking for a full Scottish breakfast, left stuffed with a belly full of flavor! We didn’t order the full breakfast, too much food. We ordered the breakfast stack instead & still quite a lot of food! The flavors were amazing, arguably one of the best breakfasts we’ve ever had! Pistachio latte & hot chocolate were also fantastic!

Llegamos temprano para nuestra reserva y nos pidieron que volviera en 10 minutos. El lugar estaba lleno de tantas mesas en un pequeño cuarto pequeño. El servicio era bastante lento para las bebidas, un americano y un agua con gas y para pedir comida. Sin embargo, la comida salió bastante rápido y estaba caliente y muy sabroso. Sin duda volveremos. Definitivamente se recomienda reservar y no pueden alojar más de 4 personas en una mesa, así que algunos grupos fueron rechazados. No hay espacio para esperar, excepto fuera, y no es adecuado para personas con cochecitos, buggies, sillas de ruedas, etc.

This was EASILY one of the top 3 places we ate throughout our 1,200 mile journey around Scotland. First - call ahead. Don’t get mad at the staff if you walk up and they don’t have space for you. It’s that desirable. Second - The service is quality. Very kind staff. Third - The food was incredible. Fourth - GET A COFFEE. Anyways. When we return to Edinburgh, this will absolutely be one of our stops.

Not my favorite one, unfortunately. The food quality is ok, however not as great as in other places I have been. The biggest problem of Greenwoods Edinburgh is that they kick you out one hour after you took a seat. That is not nice, especially because they do not inform about that at the beginning before they take an order. The waitress asked me to leave the table for another client, who was coming in 10 minutes, while I was eating. That was stress. I did not even get my cup of tea at the end. It is definitely not what I expected.

We made sure to reach here before 8 AM. It was worth it. The staff were the most kind for giving us the best table and the food was amazing.

L’hôtel nous avais proposé un restaurant pour le petit déjeuner mais nous avons été tellement tentés par la carte du Greenwoods que notre choix a été vite vu ! Une très jolie carte , les assiettes sont bien garnies et joliment présentées . L'accueil est chaleureux et que dire de la salle …. Un magnifique coups de cœur , ce cadre est juste parfait !!! Merci ☺️

Excellent breakfast, we came back a few times during our stay in Edinburgh. Great options for gluten free, great options for vegetarians. The coffee, hot chocolate, and chai lattes were incredible. Also the best service we had in Edinburgh. I cannot recommend this spot highly enough!

Love the window seat. Portion of the food is large and delicious! Recommend the banana bread. Very sweet though, will recommend to share it.

Our choice for local breakfast was Greenwoods. Since we don't eat bacon and sausage, we ordered the Scottish breakfast as a vegetarian. It was delicious. Don't go without making a reservation.

Upon arrival in Edinburgh in the morning I was hungry so I went to a good place. The atmosphere is great and everything is delicious! I went without a reservation, but luckily it was mostly open. I could eat it~ When the food came out, everyone was waiting to eat. I had Scottish Breakfast and a scone, and it was all delicious with clotted cream and strawberry jam!! All the other menu items looked delicious too! But he said he had a reservation for the next time and he was a bit fussy while eating so I noticed it a little^,^ But it was still delicious..

BOOKING REQUIRED!!!! And I do wish it would say so outside the door so that people wouldn't walk in every 2mn asking for a table and letting the cold in. It was so cold in the café that most people were eating with their coats on....! This being said, the food was delicious and the staff lovely. We're happy we gave it a try (we had a reservation).

Food was nice however, the service was slow & uncomfortable. Our food arrived long before drinks & staff interrupted us 3 times while eating to offer the bill. We had full glasses & plates of food and were asked "what are you doing? Finishing up? Can I get you the bill". We couldn't get staff attention to order but they were hovering like hawks to get us out.

Very cramped and staff desperate to move us on after we ate. However food was excellent 👌

I found this place based on reviews, and it was recommended to try the banana bread. However, I opted for the Scottish breakfast instead. The lady was incredibly kind and offered me a small portion of banana bread as well when she realized I wanted to try it. The result? Absolutely amazing! I highly recommend the banana bread, no matter what else you order. The cappuccino was fantastic too!

Lovely staff, food tasted great, lots of options and took nut allergy seriously. Mix of the banana bread and breakfast hash enjoyed at the table, both delicious! Only thing that knocked it down a star for us was the seating plan. People may (and seem to) enjoy the set up. However, we hadn’t been before and we felt the seats next to us were very close so we spent a while wondering how we would get out if all tables were seated. Its not a complaint, just personal preference ✌🏼

Food was delicious to a high standard. However the cafe itself was extremely busy and the staff didn't make any eye contact when taking our order or giving us our food which to us not making eye contact comes across as quite rude. The waitress didn't take note of our order and made a mistake with the beverage.

Having been here quite a few times, very sadly Greenwoods is not nearly as good as it used to be. My friend ordered the Full Scottish Breakfast and it no longer has black pudding. On my order of Harissa Roasted Root Toast the chef unfortunately had been slightly 'over eager' with the balsamic glaze and as such, ruined the dish. Further adding to the disappointment, parties of two are only allowed an hour. Brunch, and Greenwoods is a brunch restaurant, is a leisurely meal but here there's no time to sit and properly enjoy the food and company, no time for a second cup of coffee or pot of tea. So you feel rushed and 'on the clock'. Given that they automatically add on 12½% service charge, this is really cheeky. If they're booting you off after one hour, service should be less, or certainly optional, with waiting staff making it clear it's optional. The booking system is also quite severe with them warning you that if you cancel within 24 hours, or are a no show, then it's a £10 charge per person! Fair enough if you don't bother to show up but people don't always get prior notice for getting sick and in those cases, they would easily be able to reuse the table. All in all, a real shame as Greenwoods used to be wonderful in every way but now its perhaps become slightly a victim of its success with the focus now being on profit rather than the customer experience.

Love the sourdough bread, very tasty! Coffee cups are very nice. A bit pricy otherwise I would buy one to take home. Very welcoming service. Can be crowded in the morning so better check before go.

Told the kitchen was closed at 1.45pm. It would be helpful if this was clearly advertised.

Spectacular!! Lovely place, the food is DELICIOUS! Really: one of the best breakfasts I have ever eaten and they are beautifully presented as well. I told the staff it was my husband's birthday and they sent his order with a cute birthday candle. Nice touch! So, definitely: worth the visit

Turned away with clearly a table available at 10.30am. Said next available slot is at 1pm and didnt even offer us to wait as we are next (no queue). Not customer oriented for walk-ins, clear intention to turn us away.

We luckily got a table as a walk-in but it was a Tuesday mid morning. Service was down to earth and friendly. Glad we managed to experience!

Dined at greenwoods today with my friend who had booked for us because it had been listed as ‘baby friendly’. Went along with my friend and my 3 month old daughter. Waitress said there was no room for the pram and offered me a high chair so I could move my pram into the back at the kitchen which I declined as my daughter is too young to sit in a high chair. t I offered to sit at a table against the wall so that I could pull my pram next to me. During this time my daughter woke up crying and as I was trying to feed her 3 different members of staff came one after the other to ask if we wanted to order food yet despite me explaining I hadn’t even looked at the menu then less than 2 mins later another waitress appeared asking the same thing. Twice more this happened. The waitress who initially seated us came back up to us and asked if she could move us table as we were ‘blocking’ their serving path. Overall the food was nice and the venue had a nice feel/look to it however the whole experience was let down by the complete unawareness of the waitresses who made a stressful time even more stressful and made me feel like a nuisance to them and fellow diners. Don’t book if you have a baby/small child.

The BEST breakfast I've had in Edinburgh. The banana bread is so delicious, it's absolutely to die for. The ambiance and customer service was great and the place is just amazing. They do take walk ins but if you want to avoid waiting, Book well in advance as the place is quiet packed all around the week, even on a Monday! All in all, amazing place. 10/10.

We visited on Sunday around 2pm and it was full, but only waited 15 mins for a table. The service was fab, the staff are personable and polite. We ordered the breakfast stack pancakes and the breakfast hash. Both were absolutely delicious, the pancakes were so fluffy, the eggs were runny and perfect and the chorizo was delicious. We'll be back before our week here is over!

Greenwoods is breakfast heaven! We had the full Scottish with haggis and the smoked salmon on hash browns topped with Hollandaise sauce—both absolutely delicious. The perfect flat white and a refreshing pear and green juice sealed the deal, particularly as a great hangover fix. The place was buzzing, with a queue out the door and people being turned away without bookings. It’s a tiny space, packed with energy and happy diners—a chaotic charm that just works. If I lived in Edinburgh, I’d eat here every day. Highly recommend booking ahead—this little gem is clearly no secret!

Overpriced and very average.Tasty bacon but small portion of sausage, hash brown, beans and muffins. The presentation lacked love and cheap cutlery. The door was opening constantly letting in a draft and they kicked us out ten minutes after we finished eating. Clearly a place that makes the most of tourists that don’t know any better

UPDATE OCTOBER 2024: ✨ OMG! ✨ That Greenwoods magic is still fully shinin' and I am delighted! Return trip here on our Scottish hols this half term and honestly, it was just as good as two years ago, it fully lived up to the rose tinted hype of my memory and I am so so pleased. Had the courgette salad this time, very healthy, very demure. Fab service, great vibes. Would recommend booking to avoid disappointment. Have already booked our next visit, for December 2024 and can't wait to see you soon 😘😘 REVIEW FROM DECEMBER 2022: Amazing breakfast stack pancakes 🥞 I would fully recommend this place for breakfast, brunch, and everything in between. Really cool atmosphere. Very good service. The food tasted amazing and its presentation was super cute. I don't normally care about food presentation, but this was pretty great. Easy enough to reserve a table too.

Had a great breakfast here on Monday. Everything including the crockery was done well. We absolutely loved it. Would definitely be back if we get another chance to visit Edinburgh

We had breakfast here 3 days in a row. We tried different flavors every day. They were all delicious. I recommend it for breakfast. You can enter without a reservation on weekdays, but it is better to make a reservation as it is busy on weekends. Bon appetit in advance.

Vaya, qué desayuno increíble. Muy bien presentado y probablemente el mejor desayuno que he comido. Pila de tortitas con jarabe de arce y tocino, huevo escalfado, hachís morenos y salchicha. El marido desayunó completo. Excelente servicio, amable. Tenía el mejor asiento de la casa, asiento de ventana. Fabulosa experiencia, lo recomiendo encarecidamente.

If you are looking for breakfast in a cozy atmosphere, Greenwoods is the perfect establishment! The staff is very welcoming, very caring. The dishes are plentiful and the products are quality! My partner and I highly recommend this restaurant and we will return with great pleasure! Be careful though, remember to make a reservation because the establishment is in high demand!
