Worst meal I have not eaten in years, I literally didn't eat more than a couple of mouthfuls.I ordered curry. It had a burnt taste, the Poppadum's were greasy. The rice was Yuk.The Naan bread was cold ? How can anyone prepare, cook and serve food of such poor quality astounds me. The refurbishment looks great, but the awful quality of food means we will not be returning any time soon.

Refurbished hall stunned the eye, looked like giant chess board. Very unusual sence of the space. But nice. When fhe food was served this odd sence of space continued, such large plates left us shuffling around with the glasses condiments veg dishes etc. Quite a fete for us four. We each ordered different meals which were quite nice but nothing more. We did however find the staff really good, the service fast and the food hot. The atmosphere calm comfort and very friendly, As a non drinker on leaving I had to wonder what affect that hall floor would have if I had enjoyed a wine or two. Very nice indeed

We booked an evening meal at the Castle Hotel for our friends birthday, The Castle has been closed for a few weeks whilst an extensive make over has been carried out, The eating and drink areas have been refurbished and i think the Hotel has lost its character, gone is the story of where the WRU was started, the main bar just off the reception is a bare room, The restaurant is next to the reception and set out very well, The food was cooked very nice and we enjoyed our meals.the staff were very helpful.

We were having an evening out with friend's and we decided to book a table at greens restaurant, we had drinks in the bar first, this is a nice comfortable area for a drink and chat,.There weren't too many guest's so it was fairly guiet, we then went into the restaurant and also there weren't many eating, we ordered starters which were very nice, our mains of chicken wrapped in bacon and great chips, steak and chips, and fish and chips, all cooked to our tastes, everyone enjoyed, the meals are not expensive and very enjoyable.

My wife and I called to the castle hotel for an evening meal, when we walked into the restaurant it was quiet and plenty of tables, there was only 1 waitress serving, we ordered 1 cod and chips which was very good and chips were excellent and 1 hunters chicken which was also tasty but chicken seemed tough had to have a steak knife, the meal was very nice. But after a while the restaurant was filled up and the waitress was rushed off her feet to keep everyone happy, she needed help only person available was the barman who did help with drinks.

We have been going to this Hotel since around 2004 three or four times a year on a Friday evening for a 'pub dinner'. Excellent value and well presented. 20/5/16 was very disappointed. Bar man gave me a well priced lunch menu (at 5.30pm) and the menu for the evening. The Manager said not the lunch menu (training need for bar man). My meal was fine but my wife had to take her plate of food to the Manager who was in a quiet part of the main restaurant, not to make any fuss in the busy main bar area. Most of the scampi were raw beneath the bread crumbed - cold and nasty, not having been heated properly in the cooking. Such a simple error it is very hard indeed to imagine anyone with any basic skill could make such an error. It is very doubtful if any of the locals in the bar noticed. The Manager asked my wife if she would like a dessert, my wife said no - she rarely eats desserts. Nothing else was offered. My wife went outside for a cigarette, and while she was away, the Manager came and placed a £5 note by my plate. We go out for a meal 2 / 3 times a week, and have never had a fundamental problem such as raw food. In fact over many decades, this is the first time we have been served uncooked scampi - this was only just thawed, stone cold and watery, horrible. The Manager obviously did a calculation, eaten some, for a meal costing just under £8.00, give £5 back. The Manager needs a training course on customer relations. An obvious failing in the product must result in full refund. If an apology had been forthcoming with a full refund, this part of the review would not have been scripted. What happened to my wife on the way out of the busy public bar would have made a review on its own. She needed the loo, and in the lady's of the 4 cubicles, only 1 had a toilet roll, and the front of that loo pedestal was heavily stained. She had been very annoyed at the return of just £5, and since no one was at reception when she left the loo to go back to our car, she left it for someone else to complain. It is generally accepted that it can be accurate to judge the cleanliness of a restaurant by the state of the toilets. Well, on this occasion ... leave the reader to ponder. Reason for confusion of menus, new menu being developed in next 2 weeks. Single A4 piece of paper not the right image to a 3+ Hotel. When a meal goes wrong / apologise / offer an alternative not straight to dessert / and refund the cost of the meal- meal paid for upfront. Public toilets - imperative these are checked every hour at least, possibly more frequently at busy times.

Had a meal in here tonight. I've lived in Neath all my life and never eaten here before. I cook for nine people Christmas Day so my husband treated to a meal I didn't have to cook. We booked the three course festive menu. When we arrived we were shown to a very plain looking table, no crackers or decorations. The starter was good, pigs in blanket with a dip. The turkey dinner was the quality of bad school dinners. It was already plated on a small square plate. The peas were disgusting. The gravy was thin like water. Really really disappointed. Only two small slices of Turkey. Dessert was good but not normally find of sweets just did as it was a set menu. Staff were friendly and kind but came away feeling I didn't have my special Christmas meal. £51 for that and I only had a coke and my husband a lemonade and lime

Went to the greens restaurant today with a friend and my experience was horrible! We booked a table and told the waiter we had a table booked and he said "yeah your table is over there!" Didn't show as to our table, he then came over and gave us our drinks and just stood there and stared at us, we then said what we wanted for food and he replied with okay go up there and get it! Very disappointed in the costumer service! He Didn't smile or was not very polite! The food did not taste like it use to! The food used to be lovely there and today the gravy was like water and had no taste! The veg was horrible too! Very disappointed!!

Been to the Castle Hotel on a few occasions for Sunday lunch - but the last time will be the last time!! I ordered Nut roast which was rock hard and had no flavour - went up to the counter to choose my vegetables - of which there are plenty and not overcooked - and merely glanced the meat - only for a very officious waitress with long hair (fair) - some of which hung around her face - curtly said "you are having nut roast and cannot have meat" - I was rather taken aback at her dreadful attitude - and felt somewhat embarrassed - so taken aback could only mumble to my friend - how rude is that! She certainly needs to learn a thing or two about customer service. If I had wanted meat I would have asked for it and paid for it - in hindsight should have sent the dreadful nut roast back - surely the hotel can come up with something nicer for vegetarians like myself.

We live near to the Castle Hotel and enjoy dropping in for a meal occasionally, however we have noticed that standards have dropped. Last night we had a meal, which was difficult to choose as the menu is pretty limited, my husband had the cod, which he couldn't finish as it was so greasy, and I had the chicken chasseur, which was so rubbery that my dog would have had a job chewing it, and he can eat anything. On a positive note, the tatws a caws side order was as lovely as ever. After our meals arrived via a sniffing waitress, we never saw her again (although we could hear her sniffing in the kitchen). At no point did anyone come to check to see if everything was ok, and in the end, we gave up waiting to order dessert and actually left the restaurant and sat in the bar, unnoticed. When we paid for our meal the waitress didn't ask if everything was ok, just took the cash, sniffed, and handed the change over (we didn't leave a tip as the service was pretty poor). It's such a shame as The Castle is a lovely, historic building which has served the people of Neath well for a few hundred years. A tip to the restaurant manager: go and have a meal in The Towers Hotel in Jersey Marine, to see how a restaurant is run properly with superb food and excellent waitressing.

This is Greens Restaurant at the Castle Hotel in Neath, South Wales. I'd eaten there many times in the past but had been neither amazed nor apalled nor driven to write a review. However I found myself back there recently and the menu has shrunk in size but has blossomed with choice. This is good local pub/restaurant cooking. Definitely a step up from where they used to be. Most certainly worth checking out.

We arrived at Green's by a side door off the street, straight into the restaurant bypassing the main Bar and Entrance . So I went to the Bar to ask if they had space to have lunch. I was rudely told I could sit on any table that did not have reserved on it. And the same barman came with the drinks and shouted “Wine” and just banged it down on the table. The Service provided by the ladies during the meal was Excellent !!!The meals arrived and were average. My Mother had the fish and chips and she said it was good,My Wife had the Chicken Castell Nedd, every part of meal was over cooked.I had the Lasagna which was OK-ishThe price was meals were cheap but reflected this in the quality of the food and the service provided by the Barman, But saying that the venue had a good atmosphere and it a good location for a cheap meal

My wife and I wanted somewhere warm to eat and found greens, as we walked in there were 4 full tables, two of them waiting to be seen, we sat down and had to take a menu from another table, 10 minutes later there was still nobody around to take our order, so I went to the bar and 3 members of staff were there just talking.Being cold from outside we were to hungry to complain so we ordered. 16 minutes later our shared 'platter' arrived, it was meant to be a full welsh cured meat deli platter, that came with olives and branston pickle, not liking either, we asked for them to be left off. But alas the pickle was left on and the waitress said that the "peppers" were left off, so as we finished our 4 tho slices of meat each with the tiniest 6 slices of stale ciabatta, we needed a drink, so up to the bar we went, asked for a pint of carling and a j20, got a pint of cider and a dirty glass of j20. Mains arrived 25 minutes later, these were quite good, apart from my curry being cold and coming with the greasiest pompadom I have ever seen. We would have complained if there were any staff actually on the floor. Never going to Greens again

For dessert I ordered the cheesecake. It arrived after a long wait and it was awful. It tasted cheap and the sauce on top was chewy. Staff were okay but seemed to have no idea what they were doing. The restaurant itself is pleasant enough comfortable, a nice atmosphere overall. However a large TV played at an annoying level is totally inappropriate while dining out. We had to ask twice to have it turned off as the volume set was hard to drowned out. The service was good enough, the food however was not. I ordered one of the specials having had steak on a previous occasion that was tough and below standard decided on fish cakes. What arrived was not even of a greasy spoon standard. Pathetically small and overcooked discs of potato in a greasy batter was actually inedible. If it hadn't been for the good company, I would probably have left.

My husband and I decided to give this restaurant the benefit of the doubt, having had a few mediocre meals here previously. I ordered the lasagne and my husband the sausage and mashed potato with gravy. As it was lunchtime we imagined that the place would be busy, however there were only 2 other couples and they were finishing their meals. After a 20 minute + wait, our food arrived. My husband's looked tasty, but I looked forward to tasting my meal. What a letdown! The pasta sheets were thick and globby, there was very little moisture to the lasagne and perhaps worst of all was the " mince ". As an avid fan of all Italian dishes, I found it hard to place what the mince actually tasted of. It was bland, very chewy and appeared to be a poor quality tinned mince. I use good quality mince frequently and can honestly say I have never tasted such poor ingredients in an easy to make dish. With drinks our meal came to £20+ and I left feeling both hungry and cheated. Why didn't I complain? Again, the staff were lovely and were doing 101things at once. Its a lovely restaurant but the food sourcing of some products most definitely needs reviewing.

My wife and I popped into the Castle Hotel late Sunday Afternoon for a late lunch. We enquired about food at the bar and were told food was no longer being served, (nothing, not even a snack) this was about 15:30 hours (surely a good time to be serving food to hungry people who have finished shopping and are looking for refreshments). I then asked for a non-alcoholic beer because I was driving, I was informed by the barman that they did not sell non-alcoholic beer. So, there we were, no food, my wife drinking a coke and me drinking a glass of fizzy water which set us back £3.50. Rather expensive I thought. I felt the attitude of the barman was very unapologetic when informing us there was no food available and astonishment that someone would ask for beer with no alcohol in it! Altogether a very disappointing experience in surroundings that have seen better days.

The food was lovely a mixture of cold and hot including lovely hot cod goujons and tempura prawns! There was a lovely atmosphere and would like to thank Clive and his wonderful staff for a lovely afternoon.

The golf range is a fantastic facility for the area. Unfortunately it looks a mess. The driveway approach is adjacent to the golf range. The netting is falling down, full of holes and patches & looks appalling. The whole track is overgrown. Once inside the car park, you are faced with the scruffiest marquee... Which I'm sure was once white but is now green. There are weeds everywhere and ashtrays overflowing with fag butts. The decking area's out on the golf range are full of holes and dangerous. The whole area looks unkempt and uninviting. The restaurant area is decent and clean. The staff are well mannered and competent. Overall... The facility, whilst busy, needs money spending on it. To be honest, it is an eyesore.

Met with a few friends for a coffee and snacks. despite the coffee machine not working, they made homemade coffees through the morning. Waitress service was excellent, very polite and value for money was very good. Will go again.

We went for an evening meal on a Saturday night. The bar downstairs was busy as there was live music. We were offered the choice of where to eat and plumped for the upstairs restaurant. The owners served us. We had the Pate for starters, a 10oz ribeye steak with a red wine and stilton sauce, Dauphinois potatoes and vegetables. We followed this up by sharing a piece of delicious cheesecake. The service we received was absolutely excellent as was the food. It was all beautifully cooked and presented and very very tasty. The meal wasn't cheap by any means but the price reflected the quality. The restaurant is quite sizeable and very well decorated in a modern but rustic way using a lot of reclaimed materials, if that makes sense. If you find yourself in need of a tasty meal in relaxing surroundings take a trip to Crynant near Neath and give this place a go.
