We live locally but heard that Greendale had changed ownership and wanted to try it out. We’ve since been several times for brunch and lunch and keep going back for more .. If plain menus and ordinary fare is your preference maybe it won’t suit, but if you favour culinary flair and a point of difference to the norm Greendale is definitely worth a visit. They support local producers offering a small but interesting menu. There’s always a specials variation & everything is homemade. They have an alcohol licence and even pair some of their meals with various beverages as an option. The coffee is gorgeous, & served with a little homemade shortbread… what’s not to like A little Gem right on our doorstep, with great service and ambience into the bargain! 🤗

Very tasty sandwiches and cakes. Outdoor seating area is very nice when the sun is out. Staff are very attentive and our order arrived quickly. The only thing that has knocked this down to a 4 out of 5 is the pricing. Some of the prices for items on the menu just seem be in keeping with the climate we find ourselves in today. For example: £8.50 for a BLT sandwich! It was nice but £8.50 is a ridiculous price for what it is - two slices of bread, one rasher of cold bacon, some lettuce and some tomato, and then literally a pinch of salad on the side. You’d expect something else with it for that price. Also, £2.50 for a pot of tea for one or £4 for pot for two - it is literally water and a tea bag…

called in for family lunch last friday, we had the tapas, the onion tart, & the full bowland fry-up and cakes for pudding -it really was superb food, - there’s a wide choice from both menu & specials board, with everything prepared fresh from homemade or locally sourced ingredients - another u.s.p. is the range of belgian beers too, (the chef is belgian) and coffee & teas were also excellent- there was a friendly welcome, and attentive service throughout, we felt at home! -there’s plenty of parking, even a good sized bike lock-up rack under cover which would be perfect for cycling groups to add here as a cafe stop. we will definitely be back soon - cafes that get this many things right are very thin on the ground - it’s a real winner and deserves to be a success!

We called in yesterday with our dog......wow, what a little gem of a teahouse! From the lovely welcome, to the attentive service, and the very highest quality food obviously cooked with love and care - we were so impressed. The Bowland breakfast and the amazing bacon bun were, quite simply, the best we have ever had. Ever! The coffee was perfect (and we are quite fussy about coffee!). Beautiful views + great staff + wonderful chefs = very happy customers. Our dog loved the fresh water too :-) Thank you to everyone for making my birthday treat so special x

Visited Greendale for the first time (Saturday 29 June, 2024). We both loved the experience, ambience, tranquil setting and the food. The venue does what it says on the tin by providing locally sourced food presented with a high degree of professional flair in relaxed surroundings. We were both made to feel very welcome and look forward to repeat visits in the future.

Called here twice on the way to/from the Yorkshire Dales and really enjoyed Greendale Teahouse. Good parking, stunning views and just a few minutes from the A59. The staff were really friendly and welcoming and the menu choices were extensive and varied. Great pot of tea and the food was well presented and delicious. I have already recommended and will definitely visit again- thank you all.

Back again for another visit, this time with hubby in tow. Once again absolutely wonderful food and ambiance. It is well worth the 40 minutes travel from home to get here. I know that people usually review the food etc but I would also like to mention how clean it is. It must take hard work to keep the Teahouse so clean when there are so many visitors, dogs and dirty shoes walking in and out. Well done to all involved.

What a lovely place, had a lovely lunch. The quality of the food was amazing, lots of lovely flavours. I intended on treating my mum to a cheeky glass of wine, but honestly there was something about the place that relaxed us so much that we didn't need alcohol. We came away feeling full and relaxed. Lovely lunch, all fresh produce and tasty too. We walked up from Downham with our dog (who was made very welcome) and had a poached salmon sandwich on home-made bread, and butternut squash and ginger soup. Both delicious and perfect for a light lunch. We both had the dark hot choc to drink which was intense and rich, perfect for a winters day. Followed with rum cake and a new invention - lemon, almond, olive oil and rosemary bundt cake, so light and zingy. Hope to visit again, a warm welcome from all the staff and the perfect cosy tea room.

My vegan husband and I were taking a friend out for breakfast to a different establishment who called to cancel last minute due to staff sickness. I was following Greendale on Facebook so rang to ask if they could offer any vegan breakfast options and as they could we visited them instead. As it turns out I think the place cancelling did us a favour as we had a fabulous time at Greendale. The staff were lovely and helpful, they have oat milk and plant based butter and could veganise some of the dishes. We had overnight oats with raisins, hazelnuts and grated apple, mushrooms on toast and toast with marmalade. We had a chat with chef Michael who was very enthusiastic about offering more vegan options and asked us for ideas. He said they made as much as possible like the bread on site and you could tell it was homemade. The food was fresh, cooked to order and absolutely delicious, the overnight oats were better than the ones I make! The coffee was so good we had two large Americanos each which says a lot as my husband is very fussy about coffee. The views of the Ribble Valley are spectacular and I cannot wait to return and try more of the vegan options Michael has in mind for future. Revisited for coffee and chef had made a vegan gluten free chocolate cake so we had the last two pieces. Oh my word it was fabulous, moist, chocolatey and rich..It was a test cake to see what people thought, well let's hope they keep it on the menu, it was top notch.

Found this place as we were walking up t'hill to Downham. A warm day we were looking for a refreshing drink. The friendliness of the staff was a great welcome. They directed us to an outside table and brought out the menu and updated us on the specials. We decided to have something to eat. I had mushrooms on toast and partner had a lancashire cheese tart. Both sound quite basic but both dishes were well cooked, very well presented and tasted great. Partner was tempted and had Wet Nelly (apparently a Liverpudlian favourite!) which was delicious. In addition to the great food, friendliness and professional approach of the staff, the view over to Yorkshire and its 3 Peaks was so relaxing. Really pleased we decided to stop for a drink. We'll done.

I was looking for a coffee and lunch spot for a catch up with a friend and found this lovely rural cafe. We were fortunate with the weather and decided to begin with a coffee sitting outside in the sunshine. We placed our order at the lovely kiosk stacked with very tempting home made cakes. The friendly girl serving said she would bring our drinks over to our table and when we asked about lunch were told we could eat outside or inside whichever we preferred. What a beautiful place to sit in the sunshine and admire the fantastic views over the valley. For lunch we decided on homemade soup accompanied with fresh granary bread. Definitely homemade as the gorgeous smell of bread cooking wafted by as we enjoyed our coffee earlier. After a quiet start the tables filled for lunch but the service was swift and professional yet very friendly. We stayed for quite a while and didn't feel we were rushed in any way. Tables were sprayed and cleaned as soon as diners had left which was reassuring to see. Lots of sandwiches were on offer. Some hot such as sausage or bacon and also a cold selection all served in homemade rolls and made to order. We had absolutely no complaints and would recommend a stop off here if you are in the area and wanting quality home cooked food. In winter the inside is very homely and I imagine very cosy on a cold winter's day.

Always visited this place and have always enjoyed it. But took friends here yesterday and was so disappointed by the size of the toasted sandwiches it was embarrassing.the sandwich was no bigger than a Blackpool roll size. The chips came in a small sized cup and we had to order extra. It’s very very overpriced at £48 for 4 child size toasted sandwiches with child size chips and 2 teas 2 coffee’s. We won’t ever go here again which is such a shame as we always enjoyed it previously before the portions were so mean. We all came away hungry !! I cannot understand some of the negative comments which have been put on this site. I have been going to Greendale since it opened and cannot praise it enough. There is always a warm welcome and the log fire is always burning brightly. This rural kitchen is great and the food always fresh. Maybe the people saying bad things had ulterior motives.

We know when we go to Greendale that whatever we have will be of the very best quality. We have to say though that should chicken tarragon pie be on the specials board then we have to have it. It is usually accompanied by, in our case, dauphinois potatoes and the freshest of vegetables. The vegetables are without doubt always so good because Trevor is so passionate about what he does that he always buys his vegetables from a specialist organic wholesaler in Manchester. There is only one downside, I cannot truly manage to eat one of their marvellous puddings or cakes. I have to admit that on certain days when we have eaten at home, sometimes we call in at the Greendale for dessert! Knowing how Trevor loves his ingredients we personally last year took him a huge carrier bag of damsons we had picked as a gift so that he could turn them into one of the kitchen's superb crumbles.

If you were brought up on really tasty homemade food, chemically free and fresh from the garden this is the place. If your tastebuds have been assaulted and destroyed by manufactured, tinned and highly processed food along with high sugar content drinks in your childhood and a portion of chips every day you just won't get how good this freshly made food really is. Educate and take a look at the quality of the ingredients. This is not conveyor belt food processed in some factory by machines with virtually tasteless ingredients this is high quality food worth waiting for and there to be enjoyed. When you go to the award winning Greendale Kitchen cafe you are dining on food that is well cooked, healthy, nutritious and above all else the tastiest food you'll ever experience. This food is made with love and a passion for taste. Enjoy!

Ow dear... It’s about the fifth time we have visited this cafe/restaurant and we have always loved it. But unfortunately things have changed. My wife and I decided to visit for late breakfast (11:15) and it was absolutely rubbish. The welcome we received on arrival was .. Have you booked ? Which we had not, so we decided to wait although we were shown directly to a table?? But we had no issue waiting. The staff have always been pleasant in the past but not this morning, a lot of long faces.

After booking for a new years lunch, we were excited for our first trip to this little cafe. Only after ordering were we informed by our rather unfriendly waitress that the meals we wanted were not available, along with several other items despite being on the menu. As the menu is rather limited, and dare I say, overpriced, we decided to have our drinks and leave. I'll add the side note that they had run out of straws which wouldn't normally bother me but combined with everything it just added to the horrible experience. £2.00 for a can of diet coke seemed excessive but we were enjoying the views. Unfortunately one of the cans was flat. Upon explaining this as we left, the owner began a tirade of abuse at my elderly father who was attempting to pay. He was yelling across the restaurant calling my father all kinds of horrible names and telling us we were lying. The drink was there for him to try himself which he refused to do!! He tried to make the excuse that the ploughmans we wanted weren't on the menu as it was 'December'. As the abuse continued my dad became more upset. We are not rude people. In fact we go beyond politeness having worked in the food trade ourselves. I've never been so disgusted or seen behaviour like this in my life. My 2 year old son was horribly upset by this exchange and I cannot stress enough how awful this experience was. What a terrible way to start the year.

A lovely little restaurant, great for lunches and afternoon teas but also recently opened 4 double bedrooms. We used this for a function at the nearby Assheton Arms when we needed more rooms - these were lovely and spacious, 3 with en suite and the 4th with its own bathroom. Breakfasts were freshly made and greatly enjoyed, they make their own bread on site which adds to the aromas!

We stayed here for one night and were very impressed. The entire place is spotlessly clean, which is very important to me. I even looked under the bed (not in a Four in a Bed way but looking for something I dropped!) and it was clearly well hoovered. The bathroom was big, modern and lovely. The room and bathroom were lovely and warm (a bit plus) and the bed was plush and comfy.

I was recommended here by a friend and decided to treat the hubby for an afternoon cuppa. It was a glorious day to sit outside so we picked the tables outside. Great service and really enjoyed seeing the beautiful surroundings as we chilled. Would love to come back for a bite of lunch! Well done, guys, for winning the 2018 Tearoom/Cafe of the year!

Arrived at 1pm on a Sunday when it did not appear to be busy. We ordered soup and a sandwich and two coffees. The coffees arrived swiftly but then we waited 45 minutes for the food. The kitchen is open to the seating area and unfortunately there seemed to be a very animated disagreement going on between the Chef and his assistant and this possibly delayed our order. We mentioned to the waitress that we had long since finished our coffee but there was no offer of a refill. When we paid the bill we commented on the long wait and suggested that they should warn customers if tgere were delays for whatever reason.

I stopped for a light lunch with my 2 daughters on a rainy lunchtime. Delicious lunch of sandwiches, toasted sandwiches and soup. All freshly made to order, and the staff were so friendly and helpful, making sure the kids meals had the right extras for sale / coleslaw/crisps. Soup was delicious and made fresh from locally grown veg.

What a disappointment. 3 of us arrived at 1.30pm and the cafe was full and buzzing. We were shown to the only table available in the back room which was fine. We ordered 2 baked potatoes and a chilli special with chips. A little later we were told that they had run out of baked potatoes? As these made up quite a big section of the menu I was surprised especially as service is until 4pm. So we had to reorder -a platter and a sandwich with chips.

Stunning location, exceptional if sunny weather in the garden area. The bay window is good for 4-6 people. We had wisely reserved a table and a good job-- lots arrived after us. We had chilli baked potato, cheese melted sandwich and 2 cheese & onion pies. The best cheese & onion I have ever had. Chips could have been a bit crisper but on the whole very good meal- definitely a place to return to.

Just had tea and toasted tea cake today, which cost well over four pounds. Tea was long finished before the tea cake arrived. It was dense whole wheat, dry and burnt and already buttered. No knife or napkin. Not a good eating experience but the outside seating area has lovely views.

Been a few times now and every visit has been very enjoyable. The welcome is warm; the food is excellent, freshly cooked to order, tasty and plentiful. Its in a beautiful countryside position between the villages of Chatburn and Downham, very picturesque. The views from the restaurant and outside in the garden are lovely. Well behaved dogs are welcome. Cyclists and walkers are catered for with bike racks, and a small porch in which to leave muddy boots. Highly recommended.

Four brand new rooms at Greenview and the chance to stay at this magical place. Very nicely refurbished and comfortable. And Greenview is a brilliant place for walks in the wonderful Ribblesdale countryside - we left our car and had two delightful circular walks. And back at Greenview there was the tranquillity, the incredible views, the marvellous food and the lovely hospitality of Louise, Trevor and Ashley (and Skye the Dog). Very highly recommended.

Stopped off a couple of times now after visiting a local garden centre. The coffee and cakes here is really nice and the food simple but really good. The cafe is nice inside but if you get there on a dry day just sit outside and enjoy the view. If you are lucky, the dog may be in the garden and you can exercise throwing the ball for it.

Very friendly and welcoming staff who did all they could to accommodate the disabled gentleman I was with. For the first time ever in a cafe/restaurant I was asked if he would like a different type of mug for his coffee so he would be able to hold it better. They a wide range of food available, we will be back
