Green Cardamom in Wigan

We've been going to Green Cardammon for a few years now but since lockdown lifted and new staff have come, it isn't the same anymore. The food is good but they need a more extensive menu. The staff are miserable and you don't feel welcome. We'll be going elsewhere.

Service was excellent and the prices reasonable but the food, as it should be with any restaurant, was the star of the show. The Gosht Banjaran was so tasty and the Butter Chicken was perfect. Well worth the visit. Would highly recommend.

After a stressful day me and a few members of my family wanted to try a new Indian takeaway so we ordered 3 chicken tikka on nan the nan was dry and all 3 kebabs hardly had any meat on 100% will not be ordering from hear again !!! We paid £7•50 each for the chicken tikka ×3 and look how much meat we had on one of them it was the same with all three and it took almost 2 hours

This restaurant has always been our favourite and having just got back to going out again after lockdown, we can say it is still the best!!! Friendly, professional and attentive staff served fabulous ( and we have eaten loads of curries from other places!!) curries and everything else!!! This place serves the BEST curries from far around!!! Will certainly be visiting again very soon!! Xxx

Bring your own alcohol - food was hot and tasty and resonantly priced. Was a little dated and tired in the restaurant. Night we visited lots of very loud drunk men there. Staff on the whole friendly but one very grumpy and abrupt. Would visit again.

Visited last night as a last minute change when our original booking at primrose farm was messed up by them. I rang everywhere I could to get a table last minute and these guys where happy to accommodate. Food was all cooked well, mine was abit too hot for me despite the waiter explaining they could do it medium instead of hot (i don't normally have any issue with medium dishes) but wow it was still hot - I managed most of it and it was nice and cooked well. Everyone else's meals looked great aswell with no complaints from any of them. I think the service was abit abrupt at times but they where busy and had new staff, just the way they get everyone served quickly i suppose. Couldn't fault the food, but their pop is flat. We took our own bottle of captain Morgan's (they don't have a stocked bar so its BYOB) and almost every glass of lemonade was flat, the attitude when we mentioned it after the first one was, 'you should have given it back, not drank it' .. i had mixed the rum when we realised how flat it was, i wasn't giving them my glass. Haha We will still visit again.

Cold and no flavor, will definitely not take away from there again. We have eaten in the restaurant and it has always been lovely but all 3 takeaway meals were very poor, cold and tasteless! Ruined our Saturday night!

Definately the best Indian in town and it's truly stood the test of time. Quality, lovely food, nice atmosphere and decor inside and friendly staff. Bring your own booze. Better than the other indians and worth paying the extra for. Don't be suckered in by the others in town that are £10 all in for early bird specials on Sunday, it's just not as nice in my opinion.

Ordered a take away for 7:30pm paid for in advance. The meal didn’t turn up until 8:20pm and it was the worst food I’d ever eaten. A chicken korma which tasted like sugar and the chicken was like tough leather. Absolutely horrible. Would not eat here ever again.

This is round the corner from us so Ideal. We wanted to try it compared to the one round the corner and never swapped again. You can take your own alcohol only which makes it a more affordable treat. The meals are hugely reduced if not eating in. I especially like their chef's special dishes. We went last Christmas day and this one fantastic value plus takes the stress away.

Came for a birthday meal last week as a group. We were late to arrive, as the postcode on the website takes you to a housing estate not the restaurant but eventually found it. We finally arrived, parked up (limited parking), got in and ordered. One of the curries arrived wrong which we ended up keeping instead of waiting for a new one but other than that no issues with the food. The only real problem with the restaurant is that there's no heating. On the evening we went, the temperature was -1 outside and it felt similar inside. Most of us had dressed up due to it being a birthday but then ended up sat in our coats and shivering. The toilets were a nightmare, being even colder than the restaurant. There was one heater but was pointed at the bar area where the staff were. Dont think we'd visit again purely for how uncomfortable we were all night.

The food was fantastic. Very understated, wasn't sure what to expect as we walked in to a little dated and quiet restaurant. But the food was brilliant, been to a few curry houses in Wigan but this one topped the lot. We had onion bhaji and pakora to start and the main courses were very nice Took a double take on the price as we were expecting a lot more than we paid

I have lived in Ashton for about 15 years but to my shame this was my 1st visit. I have seriously been missing out! The staff were outstanding, the food was great and it certainly won't be my last visit

We have been coming here for many years, mainly for the Sunday Special which is amazing value. On Sunday last it was better than ever. If you like Indian food and haven't been yet you are well missing out. We love the fact that we can take our own beer and wine which is a bonus.

Exceptional service and food. After being let down by a local pub who can’t run a restaurant properly, we retreated here to be greeted by friendly staff who even offered us towels to dry off from the rain . Great place and food, excellent service and helpful staff . Well recommended

We are regulars here and love the personal touch which is friendly but not overwhelming. My husband's 70 th bithday was coming up and I asked Hussain if it would be possible to have an Indian roast lamb leg,( which is not on the menu) I was delighted when he said yes.

This place has been on the site of the old (& much-missed) Lal Quilla for a few years now, but we've never managed to get there, despite it being right on our doorstep. Anyway, the two of us celebrated my birthday there last night & we were NOT disappointed!

I visited here for the first time on my birthday in September with family, and I was not let down! The service was amazing, and the food was gorgeous! Having previously lived in Warrington, and have family there, we attend another Indian restaurant regularly and thought no other place could beat it. Well, we were all proven wrong.

Our favourite restaurant at Lowton had closed down and we were looking for another Indian to go to. We chose The Green Cardamon and glad we did. The food and service was excellent. The interior of the restaurant is roomy and nicely decorated. We hate restaurants where tables are cramped together but this is really spacious. The food is very reasonably priced. There is no alcohol licence so if you like booze with your meal, you need to take your own. The restaurant only sells soft drinks including mineral water. Only criticism is the diet coke tasted cheap like an economy brand. Will definitely return.

Have visited this Indian restaurant on a few occasions recently and the food and service only gets better. We took some of our friends with us on Christmas Eve who hadn't been before and they really enjoyed it and said they would definitely be returning.The food is excellent and the staff are very efficient making it the best Indian by far in Wigan.

This has got to be the best value Indian restaurant ever. Having tried many Indian restaurants in the area we always come back here as the food is as good as it gets. Nothing is too much trouble for Hussein and his staff, they will alter any curry to suit your taste be it a bit milder or really spicy they always seem to get it just right. We are regulars on Sunday evenings for the special menu, its just too good to be true.

we have been to green cardamom many times both as a couple and in a party and not once have we been disappointed, the food is excellent lamb chettinad and king prawn chilli chingri are a must if you like a good spicy dish. the staff are always very polite and helpful and will advise you on a dish if your unsure what to order. you will need to take your own alcohol as the restaurant is unlicensed

Visited on a Sunday night with a family group of 10. Great service and flexibility with kids menu. Food was terrific.

Visited the Green Cardamom many times with friends, family and work colleagues in the past years and every time the food and service was amazing.

Regular visitors here, food always delicious and waiters very attentive. Good value banquet menu on Sundays and Thursday just now. Bring your own alcohol, so a cheap night out!

So 1st of all the place lacks any kerbside appeal and the parking at the rear is badly uneven and badly lit. Didn’t feel great.

Visited many times and never had a bad meal....always friendly service, food always fresh and hot! Local restaurant to us so handy for mid week stop. Will continue to visit, lovely food!

Not been here for some time but my wife surprised me for my birthday with all or kids and grandkids . 7 of us with 5 children , enjoyed great food and service . Will be back again for sure Dave and Lisa Mather

I don't normally eat spicy food but this curry house got it spot on along with friendly staff and a great atmosphere this is how a curry house should be

Our regular curry haunt and somewhere we visit as a family every Christmas Eve. A fixed price for starter, main, rice, poppadoms etc. Despite being busy food arrived in a timely fashion and was good as always. Being able to take your own drink helps to keeps the price reasonable. Well worth a visit if you are after good food at a reasonable price.

I went there with my family on 28/11/2017 the food was really disgusting I have complained to the waiter about that and found out they have changed the chef before that I went few times with my family the food was always good but this time it was absolutely DISGUSTING. Also it's always freezing there every time we go there we complain to the boss to fix the heater but they never do I wouldn't recommend anyone to visit this place.

We went on a Wednesday and were the only people in which had plus and minus points! They don’t have a licence which means if you’re on a budget you can have a cheaper night out if you don’t mind carrying your drinks. The food was good and had no complaints. For a low cost night out I would recommend this place.

Our friends took us here as we all love Indian food & this didn't disappoint.

Con el aumento de la competencia para los negocios en Ashton, recomendaría este hotel como el mejor de la India en el pueblo de lejos! Recomiendo este lugar! ¡volveremos!

Fuimos como una familia para una comida india. El edificio no parece demasiado atractivo desde el exterior, pero es luminoso y ventilado y ordenado dentro. El personal es amable y servicial. La comida es abundante y sabrosa. Tuve un pollo con arroz frito hongos de madrás.

El personal del restaurante es muy agradable, nos preguntaron si queríamos como vasos para las bebidas alcohólicas que llevamos con nosotros. Mi pollo shashlik & peshwari naan era cocinado a la perfección. Un montón de pollo perfectamente sazonado y tan tierno, verduras deliciosas. Mis socios de cordero balti y naan de ajo también era excelente. Siempre elija este restaurante cuando nos visita familiar en la zona, ya que recibirán una cálida bienvenida aquí. Nuestros amigos también disfrutamos de su comida. Tenemos ganas de volver cuando esté en la zona. Los clientes de aparcamiento en la parte trasera es muy útil para nosotros, ya que necesitamos ir en coche al restaurante. Sin duda recomiendo encarecidamente.

A regular haunt. The food is very good and not too pricy. The menu is not huge but there is more than enough to choose from. Added bonus you can take your own alcohol but don't try and take your own soft drinks they now don't allow this as they serve these themselves. Service is pretty good, we visited on both Christmas and New Years eve and there was no delays and despite being full the food was still very good. Starters, main with rice/ban for 3 around £45. Would definitely recommend.

We visit here regularly on our girly night out. Excellent food everything. Staff are lovely, nothing is too much bother. Place is lovely, portions are really good. Keeps us coming back keep up the good work

Just back from an amazing Christmas dinner- staff were brilliant-especially Shumon who couldn't do enough for us! Price was ridiculously cheap for what we got-Poppadums, starters, mains, desserts and coffee-with the choice of traditional or Indian menu. The food was excellent, flavoursome and plentiful. Thanks for making our Christmas that little bit more special!!

As a regular business traveleer, I was staying overnight in The Holiday Inn Haydock (Wigan) I didnt fancy the food on the HI menu as they choices are pretty much the same in all of the IHG Group. So where to go, I found the Green Cardamon, it's a 15 minute walk into town, helped build up an appetite, once I arrived, it was pretty empty a table of 10 and 6 others, so this is not usually a good sign, however, I was wrong.One thing to note, that's why the title has a "But" the resturant is not licensed, so you have to take your own booze.... Luckily there was an off license (Cheers) 6 minute walk away, so I purchased my alcohol and went back for Chettinad Chicken very hot, it wasnt it was spicy and very, very tasty, not like other resturants where you get too much sauce, this was just enough, and a Saag Aloo, it was phenominal..... So please if you are in Wigan visit the Green Cardamon, the lack of an alcohol license does actually save you a fortune on beer, generally this is what bumps up the price. I have to also say that because the resturant doesnt make a lot of profit on alcohol it has to make sure that it's food is excellent, and it is, plus the staff were very polite and attentive.

Tonight was our first visit. There is a car park at the rear of decent size. The interior has wooden floor instead of carpet, but don't let that put you off. It is spotlessly clean.On arrival you get a warm friendly greeting and taken to your table. If you want alcoholic drinks you have to take your own. They will happily give you bucket, ice, glasses etc so you are not charged high prices for drinks like some restaurants do. This makes your night less costly.The staff are very patient and willing to explain the meals to us all.We had 2 excellent meals and really enjoyed the whole experience. We will be going back to try the rest of the menu.If you have never been in the last 6 months, try it out. It has had new owners 6 months ago. Sumon and his staff do a great job.

What a fantastic night, I hadn't been before but came highly recommended. We weren't disappointed the staff made us very welcome, the food was excellent, great choice and very accommodating to one of our party who has allergies. Fab night will definitely be back!!!!!

Called in here on our way home from a weekend in Storth, randomly selected it when we pulled off the motorway and what a find it was. Really friendly staff and delicious food, freshly prepared and greats ingredients and a really good price, will definitely look out for the others in Macclesfield, Bramhall and Culcheth.

It doesn't matter whether it's date night or just sheer hungry night. This place just excels every time we go. So much so it's become at least a weekly occurrence. The staff are amazingly attentive, even when pulled out of the place. It's a bring your own but we have never felt like we need to leave, in fact, you could bring a sleeping bag and they'd be happy with you spending the night. Onto the food...i honestly don't know how to describe it. To be fair, I have the same every time (garlicchilichicken) and it's the best I've ever tasted... Honestly, it's sublime... Anyhow, if you're in Ashton either for a visit or you've been the races get yourself there because it's bang on. ✌

Have visited here a few times but not recently, and was a little worried due to a few bad reviews I'd heard. I needed not worry, it was a lovely evening with 3 girlfriends. It was very busy but our table booked for 7.30 was ready and the waiter did not rush us for our order (we were too busy chatting!) We had poppadoms, shared starter and a main each and nann bread. I had the sagg dish and it was delicious. Because we took our own wine the bill was £15 each which I think is great value for money. The staff were really friendly. Would recommend for a cheap and cheerful evening!

As always the green cardamon was really good, meal for four with relatives from the south, friendly and efficient service. Would definitely recommend .

We visit here on a regular basis as do our other family members. We can't fault anything about the place the food is always amazing, staff are really friendly and attentive. We even had a party here for our 11 year olds birthday, a table for family and a separate table for her and her friends there must have been about 30+ of us and again nobody could fault anything - highly recommended

Went here last week,on a Saturday evening,booked meal for 8.30 and eventually got the meal around 1.5 hours later,and it weren't up to normal standards either, I found out Ramadan was on so maybe everyone disappeared for a bite to eat themselves? Anyhow I will give another chance but no more, my family give me a hard time about my recommendation.

Had a lovely meal with a friend here last night. Excellent food and excellent service. We took our own wine and we're given a wine cooler and all our drinks were poured for us by very attentive and friendly waiting staff. Would highly recommend and will be visiting again.

Even though service was slow, I understand this was because of the occasion and high demand. Food was still gorgeous! However you only get small potions compared to other Indians for example me and my boyfriend shared potions of rice and chips but it was nowhere near enough. Overall would recommend and might be better to order as take out.

Only small and from outside you would walk past, but inside food nice staff helpful and reasonably price! No licence so you take your own booze, not much atmosphere and a bit scruffy with a try, car park is a bit rough so take care when parking

I have been to this place many times prior to its new management. Last night I went and I was pleasantly surprised to see the menu contained some new dishes. The quality of the food was brilliant and as always the staff are a good laugh. I look forward to going again very soon.

This restaurant was the LaQuila for many years. The new people have renovated it. Really friendly waiters, food is OK prices reasonable and the fact you can take your own alcoholic drinks makes it a reasonable night out.

My second time here in three weeks food brilliant, best Indian food I've had, bringing your own booze makes it even better and cheaper. Easy to find just off the Main Street Wn4 Ashton in makerfield. Super

Friendly staff and a nice atmosphere!We had popadoms, rice, main and sides, and we were really impressed with every dish. A lot of care had clearly gone in to these recipes, and they were full of flavour.We're both vegetarian and there was plenty of choice for us.

We've been here a few times and always really enjoyed it so when we found out that it was under new management we were a bit dismayed. We didn't need to be! Good value, great food - very fresh tasting - brill onion bhajis - and still BYO! Go for it!

Lived in Ashton for several years but never been in here until this weekend. The restaurant was busy but staff were still attentive. Food for all (we were a group of 8) was excellent). Bring your own alcohol worked a treat although glasses were initially only offered for wine drinkers- beer it was assumed you would drink out of the bottle/ can. Great place will certainly go again.

Went there first time with friend and loved it. The food was so good and very testy. As they only serve soft drinks you have to bring your own alcohol to enjoy a great night with good food as well as great service. Will be there soon as I enjoyed the food very much and will tell my family and friends to try it.

I went here with 19 other people. I was on a special diet for medical reasons and before we booked it my friend who also doesn't do spicy food went in and asked if they did any plain food. They said they would do us a piece of plain chicken and chips so we all agreed to go there. On the night I ordered the plain chicken telling them my requirements again as my friend had previously. They then said I couldn't have the plain chicken as it came to them pre prepared with spices on it. Which ment the only thing I could eat was chips. And when they brought it my friend it had some sort of stuffing inside it and a bright red covering all over it. Which ment she couldnt eat it either. And from what they said everything comes into the restaurant pre done and all they do is warm it up. Which to me is not a proper restaurant. I would advise anyone to stay away from this place as they obviously don't know what they are serving you. We will never go there again as a group. Or myself.

Decent Indian restaurant and good standard for the local area. Without a drinks licence people take their own alcoholic drinks with them which I guess is suitable for people who like to drink with their meals. Staff friendly and certainly a good choice if you are staying in the area.

We visit the Green Cardamom frequently and every meal has been excellent.They don't have a drinks licence so you need to take your own beer or wine.There is no corkage charge so happy days.

Simply cannot fault. I had read on here about taking your own drink, this is still the same although they do sell soft drinks. Very attentive from the minute we arrived and all the way through the meal. The chicken tikka biriani was absolutely delicious although would easily be enough for two. We will definitely be back.

Three of us visited here on a Friday night and I can honestly say this was the best indian food we had eaten in ages.The tandoori chicken (on the bone) was huge and very tasty.Lots of excellent food and under £15 per head.Taking your own alcohol keeps the price down.The staff are very friendly and the service is excellent. When you have finished eating they don't rush you and we stayed for nearly an hour drinking our own booze.

This is a good local curry house for us with decent food and good service. The BYO makes it very popular and the Sunday offer makes it even better.

Been to this restaurant many many times! The food is to die for, service is very friendly and they always get everything perfect! Not once have I had to complain nor have I ever seen anyone complain (despite them always having massive tables in)...can't recommend it enough!

Me and few friends stopped other night for an indian meal.. i must say the service, food, setting and decor everything about this place was mesmerising. Waiters are very friendly also easy to approach when needed anything. Best Indian food we tasted by far.
