We were in Caernarfon for five days and every day we just kept coming back to this place. The staff was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about the food. It was a nice light lunch with coffee, a roll, quiche, or panini with small salad and shared treat. It is also away from crowds which was relaxing. I bought something in the gift shop behind as well. There are no toilets but public ones nearby.

I popped in here as was the only inviting cafe open on a Sunday in March. What a good job I did. Dewi served me with hot choc and a scone - delicious. And what a gem both he and the owner were, brimming with fun and facts about the local area, such a knowledgeable chap Dewi is! Highly recommended!

After spending hours exploring the castle (which we did just after lunch), we needed some refreshment and found this place across the street shortly before closing time. The server was friendly. What a wonderful cafe! I took my owners and family into Gray-Thomas for a drink and a piece of cake late in the afternoon. They are not just dog friendly but dog welcoming, with dog treats for any four-pawed visitors and bowls of fresh water. My humans had lovely drinks and gorgeous cakes and they too were offered glasses of water on the table. The adults hot drinks came with a little biscuit, and very thoughtfully, the same biscuits were brought to the table for the children, so they didn't miss out on one. The atmosphere was very welcoming and the two lads running it had plenty of time to talk to my humans and lots of 'skwuffles' for me and my puppy friend. If you are ever in Caernarfon you CAN'T miss a trip to Gray-Thomas! Archie

We called in for coffee and hoped for home baked scones but these proved to be doughy industrial versions, most unpleasant to eat. Indoor seating was comfortable. No alternative to butter was available, a real problem for those of us with health conditions or simply wanting to eat more healthily or reduce calorie intake. We were not asked for Covid track and trace information.

The atmosphere in this cafe is one of the best in Caernarfon. A lot of locals come here daily, even in Winter. Their coffee beats all other coffee in the town. There is a good selection of cakes available but would prefer to buy cakes made by local small businesses. The cakes are also relatively pricey, which I wouldn't mind if they were from homemade local sources. Since opening a few years ago they have branched out to serving lunches. Having ordered soups and sandwiches here a handful of times, they do take a while to come out even when it is quiet. This cafe would be so much better if they went back to serving good quality coffee and cakes. The staff are always nice to us but I don't think they realise what we can hear from over the counter. They can be quite unprofessional, being on their mobiles when tables need to be cleared as well as a few curses being heard. The cups can sometimes be a little stained and the floor and skirtings could do with a good clean. Overall I would recommend a visit here for a good coffee and chat with locals.

This is literally across the road from the castle and is therefore very busy. We just had hot drinks and cakes. My cake was a slice from a large cake and was delicious but the eccles cake my husband had was not very good - undercooked pastry and just a huge mound of dry currants. The pot of tea came with hot water which is a rare treat these days. The gallery and gift shop - these are usually very expensive when in such locations - was lovely and whilst there were many hugely overpriced items, there were a whole raft of affordable, reasonably priced gifts and it was a pleasure to walk around. It was also a café frequented by locals, which is always a good sign and should we return to Caernarfon, we would happily re-visit.

We visit often, and one day... perhaps... we will be served quickly and efficiently. But it hasn't happened so far.It doesn't stop us coming though, as we see so many people we know here, which fills up the time quite nicely between placing our order and that order arriving (sometimes even the wrong order) in the end.Staff training is DEFINITELY on the menu, I think. And the sooner the better. Such a pity, as the place has so much going for it - placed, as it is, right opposite the entrance to the extremely popular Castle.Yes, we'll keep coming back, and I would recommend that others visit too, especially for the coffee, which is one of the best in town. Called in for lunch. Expected better, given that this is a really nice and good quality gift shop (and used to be a nice gallery too). It was pretty empty for lunchtime but I assumed that was because most people had opted for cafes with outdoor seating in the sunshine, which this doesn't have. The staff were lovely - very friendly and helpful - but I had a long wait for my lunch which gave me plenty of time to inspect my surroundings. I was both surprised and disappointed to notice how dirty the place was. The widows, window sills, skirting boards and corners were really dusty/dirty. I also had to ask for my table to be wiped. The young lad readily obliged, brushing the crumbs off the table and onto the floor. Dirt does not instil confidencein me in an eating establishment. (It makes me wonder what the kitchen is like!). Plus there's no excuse for it. The food, when it came, was average but fortunately inexpensive (£6 for a pot of tea and a toasted sandwich). They'd got my order slightly wrong but I didn't want to delay things any further and so I said nothing. I won't be returning. It's not worth a second visit when there are lots of other options in Caernarfon.

We were visiting Caernarfon Castle and were pointed in the direction of the cafe shop as a place to eat, as the castle did not offer refreshments. We ordered 2 turkey sandwiches, a pot of tea and a latte. We sat at a table near the window, which had not been cleaned after the previous tenant, and had to move the coffee table to make room revealing a lot of muck and old food. We waited quite a while for two pieces of run of the mill bread with a slice of turkey, some tired looking salad leaves and a small pot of cranberry sauce. Total cost £12.75 assuming the sandwiches were £4.50 and totally over priced. Obviously priced for the tourists.

My husband also had a pot of water with his coffee and he was happy to water down his coffee to get extra cups. We sat by the window and looked at the castle. There is also a gift shop attached to the cafe which we looked round. We didn't try any of the other food but would be happy to recommend for a cake break.

The staff were very friendly and welcoming, prices are resonable to say it is opposite the castle a good place to rest for a while.

After a visit to the Castle we popped in here for a quick bowl of soup. Soup was luke warm and quite obviously shop bought. The 'bread' offered was one slice from a standard loaf cut in two, not even a roll complete with Irish butter. Staff were polite enough and attentive, but this place is obviously trading on tourist trade being so close to the Castle.

We have been to Caernarfon for many years, during this holiday stopped for lunch here, the best cheese and tomato sandwiches ever, delicious cake, so bright and airy surroundings, staff were lovely and good value for money, although height of the holiday season service was good, would go back!

I have visited this cafe on numerous occasions and I can honestly say, it has never failed to impress. As a local person, I have visited the cafe many times for the excellent coffee, customer service and child friendly attitude. It's also very good value for money. Situated a stone throw from the castle, it is the perfect place to sit with a coffee (or panad, if you're in Wales) and one of their delightful yummy locally made cakes (impressive selection). They have a great, huge window for watching the world go by and seems to be a firm favourite with locals and tourists alike. Definitely worth going to if you're in the town.

We are a family of 2 adults and 1 child. We popped in for lunch as we were visiting the town. The cafe looks very welcoming from the outside. We took a seat and waited a long time for any member of the 4 very young members of staff to approach us. It seemed (after asking) the idea was to order at the till point. It would have helped if this was made obvious to customers. After having to ask what sandwiches were available (not written on the menu), we ordered a cheese and ham panini, a turkey sandwich and a children's cheese sandwich. After a VERY long time, we recieved a cheese panini, a ham sandwich and nothing else. I had to approach the counter to ask if this was in fact our order. It was!!! So, after jointly inspecting the hand written order with a staff member, it was clear that perhaps the staff here cannot read or in fact process a very straight forward lunch order. So, another very lengthy wait for our lunch order to be put right. (No offer of replacing the ham sandwich to the original order of turkey!!) Then, it seemed that the staff then talked about us from afar.... Any appetite we may have had on arrival quickly dissappeared. The bread was not fresh and we certainly did not want to stay for cake. It would appear that the cafe should stick to what they know best.....cake and coffee.

The coffee house /cafe is well laid out. Bright and spacious. However after placing an order for tea and cake.I sat and waited for 21 minutes. In that time no other order was taken, I was sitting less than a metre from the counter. but staff seemed to be trying to catch up with orders.Which seemed odd as there was only 3 others in the cafe. So after another 3 minute I got up got a refund and got to the cafe less then 20 metres away and got my tea and cake. With a friendly smile on a very much more service orientated cafe.

Called in here for lunch whilst in the area. Had a Panini and coffee, both of which arrived promptly and were fresh and warm. The cakes in the cabinet looked very appetising. You can sit here and drink your coffee whilst looking across the road to Caernarfon Castle.
