I thought this place was still an expensive Wetherspoons but it’s just still expensive. It’s been revamped and no longer part of the Wetherspoons group - more the pity it’s gone down hill. I had a 6oz steak, chips and a cup of coffee for the sum of £18.00. The steak was disgustingly tough, came without the advertised grilled tomato and the coffee was like coloured water. I will never eat here again

Let's face it, when you are transiting through Aberdeen Airport this is the only pub and whilst it does what is says on the side of the tin, there is one 'member' of staff that needs to take a long, good, hard look at the way they conduct themselves. I have never seen him offer a please, thank you or even smile (e.g. when informing you of the price of a round of drinks, handing/receiving money, serving at the table, being given a dead glass etc). Whilst he might think working as bar staff is beneath him, there are plenty of people out there that would happily and politely step into his shoes. Please calibrate his attitude as he is damaging business IMHO.

After a 100 mile drive and on our way home my self, wife and friend were starving and decided to take a break in our journey and have something to eat - we headed for what was up to now one of the best places to eat in Aberdeen This was the first time I had managed to return to the Granite City Grill renamed NATIVE at the Hilton Garden Inn Aberdeen since it was taken over by celeb chef Nick Nairn and I think very possibly it will be the last time I will return to the restaurant under the previous runner of the restaurant the food was excellent and made staying at the Hotel an enjoyable experience - but under Nick Nairn the food is almost as bad as another celeb chef who opened up a restaurant in Aberdeen Jamie Oliver - what is it with these celeb chefs that allows them to turn out food that is disgusting and they have the nerve to cherge the earth for food that verges on inedible

It's a popular stop probably because of the fine selection of real ales available. I've alway found the staff to be on the ball when it comes to serving people. The food is OK and comes within 10-15 minutes, but dependant of how full the place is. The prices are reasonable for an airport too. There is an outside area, but not very good during Scottish winters.

I was looking forward to quality service and food but overall the experience was disappointing. We were a party of four. We ordered in the bar and were taken to our table about 20 mins later. No one offered take our coats. Cullen Skink can be a super starter but this one lacked solid content and flavour. My wife ordered lemon sole with carrots and fries as extra side dishes. The fish was excellent but the side dishes did not arrive at the same time and after reminding the waitress about the omission the carrot arrived but not the fries. I had lamb which was tender and tasty but one piece was mainly fat and gristle. The others in our party had steaks which were not exceptional given the £29.50 price tag. The desserts were very good. We ordered wine by the glass which was slow to be served. Compared to a restaurant such as Moonfish, atmosphere, quality and value for money were disappointing.

About midnight on Tuesday 20 Aug 2013, Nick Nairn tweeted that he was going to have a pop-up at the Granite City Bar & Grill where he's setting up in Sept/Oct this year. The menu was a choice of 4 starters, 4 main and 4 desserts for £37. We were shown to our table and introduced to our waitress seamlessly. Drinks were served timeously. The food order was taken a short time later and then the wait for our starter of about 20 minutes. I had monkfish & muscles with puy lentils in a broth. My wife had the cheese soufflé with crispy pancetta. My fish was cooked to perfection (the best I'd ever had) the broth was tasty too, however the broth was far too powerful for the delicate fish and that was a disappointment. My wife's cheese soufflé was good but no wow factor. Main for me when it finally arrived around 3 minutes after the starter was lamb, dauphinoise potatoes, with peas and broad beans. The potatoes were creamy and tasty, the lamb tender but the whole thing was slightly on the cod side and served on a cold plate - the runner beans I think could have been planted and hey would have grown. The presentation was also uninspiring. My wife had chicken, truffle potatoes and green beans. The chicken was moist and the potatoes/beans a good accompaniment but as with the lamb, he presentation was sloppy. Desert after I asked My Nairn to get a waitress to take our order, was for me the show stopper. I had apple tarte tatin with vanilla ice-cream and it was lovely and crisp with a slight bite to the apple and a generous amount of caramel Mmmmmmm. My wife had the chocolate tart with caramel and crème fresh. Not being a desert person I assisted my lovely wife and thought it was a good tart but not enough of a chocolate punch. Mr Nairn came and spoke to us agreeing with some of the points made and informed us that there were issues in the kitchen which would receive a full revamp of the kitchen, dining area and that all staff would be undergoing training. I would have expected a little more and my overall thoughts are that it was a bit over priced for what was received and that as a test audience he might even have offered a substantial discount on the night as I know the food did not meet with his approval. That said there was enough promise to bring me back again once the refurb is complete.

The service was second to none in Aberdeen. The menu is quite short but just enough. The champagn was very nice. The starter, haddock fish cake, was very delicious and memorable. The salmon and the sea bass were cooked perfectly for our main dishes. The desserts were very good. The prices are a little too high but reasonable for a restaurant in a hotel.

This place was a pure delight. Upon arrival we were greeted and taken to the restaurant, which was located at the top of several steps. I am currently on crutches after an operation so I was pleasantly surprised that they had a lift to take me up. The waitress was bubbly and friendly and gave us plenty of time to pine over the extensive menu of captivating food. The good thing about their menu is that if you are watching what you eat, the little heart next to some dishes easily indicates the healthy option. I choose the semi-healthy Pan-Fried Seabass, which came with spinach and potatoes – it was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. The potatoes were soft and buttery; the spinach was tasteful; and the Seabass was crisp and full of flavour. The interior design felt warm and inviting; from the lighting, down to the comfy chairs. I cannot actually find a fault with this restaurant! Worth the money and worth the visit.

Forget the fact it's in a hotel and that the lighting and decor is pretty flat and tacky. This is a quality dining experience in a city that is not known for fantastic restaurants. Five of us came here the other night and had a really first class meal which was pretty faultless from a taste and quality perspective. Unfortunately there was a mix up in the kitchen and one of our party received their food more than 10 minutes after everyone else, but at least the price of this meal was docked from our bill. This place could really go up a notch if the staff were a little more attentive and some mood lighting was applied during the evening. I would certainly return to have one of their sirloin steaks any time.

Like maureenmahon we read previous reviews and were looking forward to dining here. There were 3 occupied tables..on a saturday evening...and the waiting staff despite being attentive(until the coffee) were let down badly by the 'chef'. The food was below average, salmon starter bland and tasteless, when my partner asked for mash with his steak( a decision he deeply regretted) what came on the plate can only be described as disgusting, gray, very lumpy, cold and with a 2cm thick skin! My seabream was also cold and tasteless, and when asked if all was ok the reply was met with '0h!that's a shame' , the salty chocolate desert revived our tastebuds however our coffee took over 30mins to arrive, after a few reminders with a bit of shortbread as a way of an apology! Think the 'chef' needs to rethink! or was it his night off??

Went along to the granie city bar and grill at the hilton garden inn for a meal with my family to celebrate my birthday . Balloons on the table gave it that special touch, thankyou so much. The staff are very welcoming and the atmosphere is warm, relaxing and friendly. The menu has something on it for everyone's taste. The starter of scallops, black pudding with sweetcorn sauce was very delicious. I had the monkfish for my main meal as never tried this before and, i can honestly say that it was the most delicious fish meal i have ever eaten; went really well with the asparagas and potatoes, along with a side dish of fresh mixed salad. Will definately have this dish again and again! The taste was heavenly and it just melted in my mouth, very satisfying. My husband had the Mobley burger which he thoroughly enjoyed and is very filling. The chef Brian makes these burgers himself, very impressive. My two boys had Brian's own made margharita pizza and chips which they say is the best ever pizza in town! Chocolate pudding with ice cream is to die for! Finished off with a latte with vanilla sauce, mmmmm yummy. The waiting staff Merili, Rory and Andy were very attentive and the service was perfect. The Assistant F & B Manager Donovan was very polite and ensures satisfaction gauranteed. It just made our night even better. Food was excellent. I was so close to order liver starter again, just because it tasted so good and the steak after was just perfect. Went on Sunday evening 3rd July with my husband and son. Maybe it was an omen that the taxi driver had never heard of it or the fact that only one table was occupied should have set warning bells ringing. However, armed with the good reviews we perused the menu looking forward to a good steak...not to be, apparently because it was sunday, they only had one sirloin steak left. Ok, ordered a rib eye and then asked for baked potato..well, no, they had no baked potato left. Went for the sea brill with crushed potato. Oh my God, I wouldn't even give it to my cat. It was dry and overcooked and the potato inedible. The steaks were equally disappointing, did'nt even resemble sirloin or rib eye. I sent my fish back, but apparently the waitress couldn't get anyone to speak to us so she just decided not to charge for it. I wanted the guys to send their steaks back but they were starving and just decided to eat them, along with the burnt chips. The only good thing was the decent bottle of wine which served as my dinner as I hadn't the heart to order anything else at that stage. The bill, a staggering 91 pounds, the experience, disappointing beyond words. Be warned, and if you do find yourself there, ask to see the steaks before they cook them..we should have.

Nicely appointed room with friendly waiter but he became rather too friendly along with his companions asking if we were ready to order about 10 times in 15 minutes! Anyone menu looked promising. We both order scallops with parsnip puree, pancetta & grapes for starter. Looked nice when it arrived 4 little piles topped with scallop but in reality very little substance. Nice big scallops but they were cut so thin I'd be surprised if we actually got 3 between the 2 starters. Puree would have been lucky to see a fork never mind a blender and was basically just big lumps and grapes did not go with scallops as sour. Moving to main I had ordered jerk chicken with mash, green beans and mushrooms - well the mushrooms were nice - chicken was dry and tasteless, mash was dry and lumpy (although there was enough for about 3 plates) and there were no green beans - the waiter had advised this and asked if that was OK. When I asked if he could bring another vegetable instead I was given 4 small pieces of microwaved carrot in a soup bowl??? Anyway we thought we would risk a dessert and I have to say the sticky toffee pudding was lovely - moist sponge soaked in gorgeous not too sweet syrupy sauce with ice cream. All in with tip and 2 soft drinks we were £52 and I can honestly say there are much better options in Aberdeen.

After this was pointed out, we were asked if we would rather skip starters and have a pudding instread! As neither of us have a sweet tooth, this wasn't an ideal solution and we suggested that we have our starters after our mains. Our actual main was ok but not amazing - my friend found her duck noodle salad extremely fatty. There also seemed to be problems with the wine, in that they seemed to have run out of quite a lot of the reasonably priced varieties. Service was friendly but slow and we were waiting for some time in between courses.

I use trip advisor all the time to read other people’s reviews, however I have never actually felt the need to write a review until now. I visited the Granite City Bar and Grill not long ago with my family for a meal to celebrate my birthday, upon entering the restaurant we were greeted by several members of staff who were very friendly and welcoming. Being a week night, the restaurant was not overly busy, so our waitress asked which area of the restaurant we would prefer to sit in, we chose a table up at the back corner which looked onto a lovely courtyard. The ambiance of the restaurant was lovely and I felt very relaxed from the minute I walked in. The waitress give us a little time to look over the drinks menu and come back over for our order once she could see we were ready to order. She was very attentative and friendly throughout the whole meal and made the whole experience enjoyable. When the food arrived at the table it was of an excellent standard, piping hot and cooked to absolute perfection. I didn’t want my meal to end, but when it did, I felt completely satisfied. After our meal we decided to look at the cocktail menu, however we did not fancy anything that we saw on the menu, when we explained to the waitress that we didn’t want anything, she asked us what kind of flavours we did like and suggested that the bar staff could made us something that was not on the menu. This was a lovely touch, and make me feel like they really wanted to give us something extra. They even waited for us to try our drinks in case we didn’t like them and wanted to try something else. The meal was one of the best I’ve had in a long time, it was great value for money and I would not hesitate in recommending this restaurant to family and friends and I will definitely be re-visiting the Granite City Bar and Grill again in the very near future.

My family went here for lunch on Mothering Sunday; two in our party had been before and said it was excellent. We were not to be disappointed. The staff presented themselves very well and were generally very good. Only a slight mix up at dessert time when it looked like a manager tried to help out, unnecessarily, and got the wrong table. However it was the food that we were most impressed with, the good was very, very good given the reasonably price of the special day menu. One in our party described the sea bass as the best she had ever had. However, the burgers were a little disappointing. Although they were presented well with chips in little baskets they were obviously, by taste, the bought-in frozen type and not the hand-cut chips that I’m lead to believe was on offer when the restaurant first opened. The restaurant seemed focussed on delivering very good service and this is very admirable. At the end of the meal they asked us to review them on trip advisor and I’m only too happy to.Overall, for the price we paid for a three-course lunch, a glass of wine and good service considered, I don’t think this place can be beaten for value in Aberdeen.

I find it hard to believe that we visited the same establishment as the other reviewers!! Even though it was quiet when we arrived we were made to feel like our presence was an inconvenience. The service only got worse, our order was wrong, the serving staff were nowhere to be seen most of the time and consistently ignored our empty plates when we had finished. The food was okay but relatively mediocre and more what I would expect from a Wetherspoons than a well respected hotel chain. The staff tried to excuse the errors by claiming it was because of how busy they were which is a poor enough excuse for a full restaurant so for one at 30% capacity it is just pathetic. I worked in both a pub and hotel which served food when I was a student and I would have been embarrassed to provide such poor service. After reading the other reviews we were sorely disappointed!! Although on the upside the whole experience was so bad it was actually funny so at the very least we got a pretty good laugh out of it!

Nice sized portions for lunch, but we only managed two courses each. Reasonably priced and varied lunch and dinner menus, and a great place to slip away to from the likes of the Bon Accord Shopping Centre just down the street. Being a city centre hotel, parking is at a premium. The Hilton Garden Inn has just 20 spaces accessible from Charlotte Street, but these are mostly taken by hotel guest.

It is a very nice place that offers quick escape from busy streets of the city center. The food is excellent and refreshing. People that work there seem all happy and look like they really enjoy what they are doing. This can be then seen on the quality of service. I would say that staff and the manager are very friendly and professional. They have loyalty cards which offer really good deals.

Have been to this place atleast 10 tinmes now. The food is lovely. I go there regularly for lunch or a coffee. There is no other place in Aberdeen like this. It is located a stone's throw from Bon Accord centre. Very convinient to pop in for lunch or a coffee while shopping. The ambience is great and the sandwiches and coffee are actually cheaper than most of the other places. Dinner is wonderful, staff very friendly and chefs are interactive. I have one of their loyalty cards and have already been rewarded with a free night stay at Hilton which i will be using this month...really looking forward to it.If you havent been there yet.................you are missing out on something great

I went to Granite City Grill when they first started with Jazz nights! Live music with a lovely atmosphere, quality food and well recommend wine (from one of the team members) made my night memorable. They have also Loyalty cards which is really good deal to get Champagne and free stay. Prices for that kind of food and service are very low if consider that we are talking about Aberdeen.Defiantly place where to go back and have a good time with friends, family. They will take a good care of everybody!!!

Had a great meal here. Staff very friendly and professional. Food - excellent quality and very reasonable and is actually cheaper than a lot of high street restaurants. Drinks - very innovative cocktail menu....cocktails are to die for. We were a group of 6 and ended up having 5 cocktails each....must visit. Best day to go is Friday evening when they have live Jazz......great ambience.

Was a bit trepidatious about coming in given the frosted glass (typical of 'locals only' type pubs). However couldn't have been more wrong - great atmosphere inside, very busy but not too crowded, fri
