Grand Union - Kennington in Lambeth

Went on bank holiday Monday. The food was poor - undercooked calamari, overcooked chicken burger, missing chicken from the salad we ordered. The service wasn't much better they tried to charge us for a drink we didn't even order. Won't be going back.

Great place to go with your friends. Very pleasant atmosphere, tasty food and brilliant drinks. The Staff is very friendly, especially Ana, Stefan and Harrison who looked after us in the best way possible and made our visit be amazing. Well done The Tankard (BrewDog) !

Despite Covid restrictions, Andrea and her team ensured a lovely night out for us with good food and service, thanks!

I have just spent a lovely Sunday afternoon here with my 4 year old son. Andrea (our waitress) was so kind and helpful. She really went out of her way for us. We both left very happy and with full bellies from the yummy food. Will definitely be back again!

Visited yesterday. Some initial difficulties ordering online ( Drafthouse app does not advise that the order you pay for in advance has the be accepted before the order is processed). Andrea explained the situation, sorted things out and everything went smoothly after that. Beer and Buffalo burger great. Good night.

my group popped in for a drink and were meet by slightly vague staff. There is an enormous array of beers behind te bar but these are listed anywhere so no idea what there are . When taking our order the staff were just vague as to what they had to offer and seemed to just want to offer the draught options. Quite slow service for each round and for payment as due to Covid there is no bar service.OK pub but wouldn't rush back.

We came for bottomless brunch last weekend, just the 3 of us, we turned it into my friends hen, as her wedding had been postponed 3 times due to covid, hoping for 4th time lucky next weekend! This place was just great, massive shout out to Daniel who gave us a 5* service, in fact the entire team were so so good to us! Can’t wait to come and visit again!

It was super busy as it was 2-for-1 wings but we had great service from Andrea and food was delicious (I recommend the buffalo wings). Lovely ambience on the terrace upstairs. Also the one-way system felt very safe and tables were nicely distanced. Fun evening, will definitely come again!

Saturday 12:30 pm It took them 37 minutes from point of order to deliver Burger and Chips which arrived absolutely stone cold. Luckily the place only had 4 other customers than us. I dred to think how long it would have taken if it was busy.

I visited The Tankard with some friends a few weeks ago. I paid £20 for the deposit for the table, we arrived on time and had a nice night. The drinks were very slow to arrive via the app and the food wasn't great - but all in all OK.It's now been 3 weeks of me contacting The Tankard and Draft House via email, phone, Facebook and Instagram regarding the £20 deposit, and haven't heard anything back. Just frustrating because it looks like other people have had the same issue...

Came here for a post-lockdown-easing pint with a mate. Great atmosphere, good beer, Andrea in particular is super friendly and made us feel so welcome! Also they're taking social distancing seriously whilst maintaining a relaxed and friendly environment so all round would defo recommend!

Myself and a few friends returned to the Tankard for the first time yesterday. From when we entered we were made very welcome and we had great service throughout. We get safe the whole time and the pub maintained a friendly atmosphere despite the new ‘normal’

Was so wonderful! Went to get takeaway beer to take to the park and they were so organised and great. I accidentally just walked in as I was just ordering at the bar but Andrea kindly explained the entry system to keep everyone safe and was wonderful. The service was quick and the roof top terrace is so so nice! Love this place!

A group of us went to Bottomless Brunch here for the first time.The pub is nicely decorated and has a good atmosphere. For £30 you get a main meal (burgers, pies salads etc) and bottomless drinks- four types of beer or prosecco for two hours.The food was delicious and the service good, if a bit intermittent. There seemed to be one woman running the whole show on this windy Saturday afternoon, and she did well to keep us watered, with a bit of prompting every now and then. They definitely could do with more staff in that respect.Overall we definitely got our money's worth, but charging an extra 3 quid for chips is a bit cheeky when they should really come served with the burger.

Vivimos enfrente y reservamos una mesa grande para 1300 los domingos. A las 13:50 nos dijeron: no hay más asados los domingos. . . y tal vez pruebe los 3 Stags en el camino! Esto solo fue impactante, pero luego esperar otra hora para que llegue la comida fría, dura y básica del pub después de tener que recordarle dos veces al personal que era extraño. Para agregar, ni siquiera estaba ocupado. He visto ir y venir muchos restaurantes en este sitio y creo que pronto habrá otro en camino.

Visited on the 22nd september and had to laugh at the service really. Looks like a lovely place from outside, not being from the area we were looking for somewhere nice to eat after exploring the museums. Upon entering we approached the bar and said hello for the girl to snap 'we dont serve here - wait over there' without even glancing up, after a few minutes waiting my partner asked about the menu and wether it was just roasts or there was a full menu being it a sunday for the girl to roll her eyes and rudely tell him look at a menu. Eventually after browsing the menu we ordered 2 pints of coke and 2 burgers (burgers around a 10er each) and a side of chips after realising they dont come as a standard side, and seated. I asked for a glass of water for her to glare at me and dump it on the bar as if offended. We waited about half an hour for the food which was again brought over by the forementioned bar girl who dumped the tasteless standard beef burger which was half the size of the bun and not even real cheese on them (by that i mean the plastic orange packet cheese) on our table before walking away. For the price of the burgers alone we expected it to atleast be worth it and the chips were cold. We ended up leaving our meals and drinks unfinished and can safely say we wont return.

Amazing space with great design and overall aesthetic, the terrace was a great space to sit and relax and offered plenty of seating! However, we were really let down by the food, we ordered two seitan burgers, as delicious as they were, the size of the burger was almost laughable for the price and in comparison to the bun and fillings. A tiny burger filled less than half the bun as was not enough for a main meal.The food was topped off by rude staff, who seemed like they didn’t want to be there and were very bossy. They couldn’t offer a substitute for part of the meal or in any cocktails.

I hosted my BF's surprise 30th birthday party and it was fabulous. The staff were so friendly and accommodating and the terrace was the perfect space to host it. Thank you Greg and Vanessa for everything! x

I’ve been to Draft Houses before and enjoyed the range of beers and food, but this one is awful,For a chain championing it’s beer credentials it had one cask beer on. It also had some keg options but no better a range than an average high street boozer.The food was the real shocker though. They weren’t serving it for most of the evening due to being “too busy” despite the pub being empty. When I eventually had something wish I hadn’t bothered as it was the worst calamari I’ve ever had. It looked like it had been shown a fryer as opposed to actually being put in one. It was rubbery and clearly had been frozen and was served with some lurid shop bought Marie Rose sauce in a plastic pot. It was truly minging, waste of an evening

Mondays are half price burger nights, so I decided to give it a go. A Yank in town, this popular watering hole in Lambeth typically hosts a young crowd. A rooftop is superb in warmer weather.

We had walked past this pub numerous times during our stay in London and had been advised not to go there. We had been to another pub and told the kitchen was closed so were on our way to our regular went we stopped in to ask if their kitchen was open and it was so we decided to give it a good. All meals were available quiet late in the day which was a change from most of the other pubs we had visited for a roast during our stay. We were regularly advised that something was off the menu. Our meal was hot and tasty. The service was OK so I would probably go again.

Great bar full of craft beers and lots of beer choices! Drinks are average price, but it was SO busy when we went on a Saturday night, it took ages to get beers from the bar! They could definitely use more bar staff to deal with the demand!

Voy a hablar con franqueza sobre este establecimiento, este es uno de los lugares más desagradables en los que he entrado. El empleado ha tratado a nuestro grupo de ocho personas como si fuéramos pisher que teníamos niños en nuestro grupo todos menores de tres años. El personal no nos ayudó y nos preguntó si se necesitaban sillas altas para los niños. El mal comportamiento y la mala conducta se manifestaron desde el momento en que entramos en el establecimiento. El personal ni siquiera pudo ofrecer una broma tan simple como un saludo. Estas acciones lo convirtieron en un espacio hostil e inoportuno para entrar. Ingresamos y nos sentamos en el establecimiento el tiempo suficiente para pedir nuestra comida, pero el personal no nos alertó de que la cocina se cerraría pronto. El protocolo estándar es informar a los clientes que la cocina se está cerrando antes de que realmente lo haga para que las personas puedan realizar su pedido y recibir su comida. El desagradable y decepcionante encuentro fue muy evitable si no hubiéramos entrado en un lugar así. Las acciones de los empleados desde el principio dejaron en claro que no querían servir a nuestro grupo. Hablar menos de querer que comamos allí. Esta experiencia me recuerda todas las formas no verbales en que las personas eligen ser descortés.

Este pub es mi local y nunca me ha decepcionado en mis visitas. Su selección de cerveza artesanal rota regularmente y siempre termino probando algo nuevo. Cuando sale el sol, la terraza del techo es encantadora y el edificio tiene toneladas de carácter. Los precios de los alimentos son bastante normales para Londres, pero la 'BFC Burger' es particularmente sabrosa.

Vi skulle have lidt aftensmad og kendt pubben fra tidligere besøg. Besøget var en søndag og der var Roast på menuen. Vi fik en menu med svin, okse og kylling på tallerkenen. Derudover var der diverse grøntsager. Skønt mad, kan godt anbefales.

Great pub. Stopped in during a walk. Had a pint and nachos. Yum Ladies bathroom upstairs. Very old building. Lots of atmosphere.

Visited this establishment with a family of 6, was told there was seats upstairs a left to it. So we looked through menu and went to order to be told that actually we cant have it as its only certain items available on a sunday, yet no sunday menu was offered. We finally order 4 beef burgers £11 each and 1 chicken burger £11 4 fries £3 each. When food arrived they had 2 chickens 3 beef, when we queried it we were told its not his fault as he didnt take the order but would have to wait for burger to be cooked whilst the rest of the family to already be eating, took the chicken burger and no apologies where offered.

Had a long visit to the nearby Imperial War Museum and, when we had finished, the only thing we needed was a beer and a bite to eat. The Tankard was in sight so it was an easy choice. Friendly staff, nice atmosphere and a quirky lunch consisting of foot long pork scratchings, half a pint of whitebait and some fries. The scratchings were superb and the whitebait perfectly cooked too. Really enjoyed the visit.

Booked in for the bottomless brunch. They were very helpful with making changes to accommodate my allergies, both at the head office and the pub itself. Very friendly service from the staff at the bar and good food and drink. Plus for London, a very reasonable price. Couldn't fault them.

We stayed in a flat about three blocks from this Pub during our World Cup-time visit to London this past July. I used to live in England and my wife and I try go get back every chance we get, but this was our first time staying in the Oval...and we loved it! And the Tankard made or stay even more enjoyable...from the great service and friendly staff and the quality and selection of beers, to the surprisingly great food - including their truly epic Sunday roast! It is truly to die for. No, I’m serious, my wife and I got the roast for two and it was not only delicious, had we actually eaten it all we may well have died from shear food overload. However, we would have gone to our reward VERY satisfied.

I had spent most of a Friday afternoon in the nearby Imperial War Museum after which I was in dire need of a pint to cheer me up. I spotted this brightly painted pub on the corner from a distance and headed straight over.

Encontramos esta caminata de regreso a nuestro hotel en el Embankment y decidimos llamar para un almuerzo tardío. Un personal amable y un ambiente agradable. Cervezas locales y una buena selección de comida. Tres de nosotros tuvimos pasteles y tuve la hamburguesa vegana de Seitán, que era un poco duro. Galés perry muy bien.

I've been on two occasions: firstly as part of a large business party for our Christmas meal in 2017, and secondly when it was warm this spring to enjoy the sunshine and drinks on the roof.

The interior has changed for the best and the ambience of the place when I visited on a weekday afternoon was relaxed and welcoming. I ordered the butternut squash & spinach pie and it was well worth the price!

Found this place be accident. Had the nachos, cheeseburger hot Toddy and peach cider. Excellent. Adam was a great waiter and gave us good info on some sites to see. Would eat here again.

the Thaziki Sour draught was really nice the food was about what you would expect. Some of the staff seemed to be more interested in their phones than getting my next beer

A lovely neighbourhood pub and restaurant close to Days Hotel Waterloo. Discovered it was half priced burgers (Mon). The Smoke burger was delightfully delicious and the cider refreshing, not too sweet and not too dry. Perfect. Nice menu and drinks on tap.

I ordered a Sunday Roast. It took ages to be ready and it came cold, meat was clearly not fresh and overcooked. I have tried to give it a chance. It was impossible to eat. Vegs instead were uncooked. Service not very helpful; mostly young adults with very little will to work.

Agradable, cómodas sillas y un interesante interior, quizás la mejor característica es la terraza en la azotea, que tiene también un bar aunque no está abierta en el almuerzo, el bar que no es la terraza. Después de haber ido por la variedad de cervezas que había leído, me decepcionó encontrar sólo una bomba de mano con algo disponible y el personal bastante indiferentes que habría sido más cómodo vendiendo caro cervezas de artesanía a los urbanitas que ale a un antiguo fósil como yo.

I visited here for a pint of beer after visiting the Imperial War Museum on a Saturday Afternoon. Good selection of Ales on draft, and a decent London Boozer as well. Well worth a visit.

Very pleasant pub with a great range of good beers. I had a roast beef dinner which was excellently prepared. My only negative would be it was not very filling.

My husband and myself popped in after a visit to the Imperial war museum, on arrival we were made to feel very welcome the gentleman behind the bar came round to us and chatted took time to find out what we liked to drink advised us on what we may like to try poured drinks and brought them to,our table , we ordered food I had Cumberland sausage and mash which was absolutely beautiful my husband had the beef pie served with mashed potatoes and cabbage which was recommended and that was beautiful, they do foot long scratchings which are to die for we come from the midlands and I have never had anything like it before the are made fresh and boy are they worth it . I can honestly say it was good food and good value for money we had food drinks and the scratching s all for £48.00 would I recommend to eat here hell yes and enjoy like we did

This pub is excellent. We randomly picked it to watch the rugby and were pleasantly surprised. The downstairs bar is a decent size, serving a good selection of beer. The clientele was mixed - families and groups of friends. The atmosphere was lively and the decor is quirky without being one of those wannabe hipster places. There's an upstairs bar which looks good for private events. We didn't try the food but will likely go back to sample it.

We have been visiting this venue in its various guises over the years and were pleased to see the latest offering by the Draft House and return to The Tankard. Two trips confirm that the burgers are amazing! There is a great and pleasing food and drink selection - a small kids menu would be appreciated (there were a lot of kids there on both visits). We thoroughly enjoyed and will be back, but this place could be so much better with just a bit more attention from the staff. From walking in the door until the food arrives, the staff are amazingly attentive. Once the food comes, it's tumbleweeds. We easily would have ordered pudding or another round of drinks on both visits, but lost interest before we could attract attention. We'll be back to try the Sunday Roast!

Metimos en este pub, después de visitar el Museo de la Guerra Imperial, comida de bar ordenados para 5 personas, que no estaba mal. Pero sólo quería decirles a otros que pegan un cargo por servicio en la factura, no me di cuenta de esto en el tiempo, como no me mostró la factura, habría pedido a ser eliminado. Así que no es muy feliz. .

Fuimos para un rápido almuerzo aperitivos. Sal y chili calamar y aros de cebolla. El calamar era la sal, y se sirve con un inmejorable, mayonesa en vez de aioli. Aros de cebolla eran estándar congelados y sosa. ¿Por qué incluso la molestia.

Ordered a ‘crispy kale’ chicken caesar salad. No kale, iceberg lettuce and 3 thin strips of chicken. Sent it back

We where walking to the Imperial War Museum and looking for somewhere to grab lunch on the Sunday. There isn't much nearby so kind of stumbled onto this pub offering Sunday roasts by happenstance. What a great find.

El pub está relativamente limpia (excepto los inodoros! Pero por desgracia no hay señalización) para advertir a los clientes permiten perros! El director era muy servicial cuando este fue elevada con ella. Mi marido es alérgico a los perros y si éramos conscientes de las condiciones de perros no habría ido.

On y retrouve l ambiance londonienne , hamburgers maison délicieux , service rapide , à 2 pas du musée de la guerre. On s’est régalé

We have been to this place a couple of times and really like it. It is next to the Imperial War Musuem park and so nice for a stroll and then drink or food. It is dog friendly, which is great and the staff are very friendly. The food is good as well. Would recommend it. It has been redone if you are confusing it with the prior "draft house"

We got a table on the sun soaked roof terrace over looking the imperial war museums garden.A lovely atmosphere with friendly service, chilled music and a fantastic roast dinner. The highlights being the incredible Jalapeño Mac and Cheese Balls and All The Farm sharing Roast for 2! Pork, Beef & Chicken. Stuffed!

He visto este pub ir a través de las encarnaciones. Yo vivo localmente, y fue bueno ver que cambian de manos, ya que el Grand Union no era estupenda. Visité recientemente, pero no estaba muy impresionado por la nueva versión. Mi amigo pidió un sidra que era plana, y cuando volví a la barra, el barman estaba más interesado en su teléfono que a mí. This pub has had a makeover and recently reopened. It had a promotional weekend and local residents were given a voucher for a free pint and half price food on the first weekend.We all showed up expecting a real treat and were terribly disappointed. The food was very average and the service slow and unpolite.You have to order and pay in advance at the bar, like any pub, but we were repeatedly asked if we had paid. One member of staff run up to us as we were leaving to ask if we had paid. I don't know how you could get the food without paying in advance?I don't know if this is poor staff training but we left feeling like thieves!

It's much nicer than the pub that was there before (Grand Union), the beer selection is great. The food was OK, nothing special. The menu was not very exciting. They don't take American Express.

As a fan of the other Draft House pubs I have been to I had high expectations. They feel like proper pubs and are inclusive. The Tankard has the atmosphere of a coffee shop. The roof terrace is pleasant but I suspect that it will be regularly booked for private functions as it was on the evening of our visit so don't visit just for this. As the pub has only recently opened I hope the staff will relax more when the overseers from HQ leave.

I have recommended this place to many friends and booked it out myself for a number of events over the past two years but following a change of management I have been left extremely frustrated and disappointed in its service. I booked the roof terrace for my partner's 30th birthday back in April and in the couple of weeks between confirming my booking and paying the deposit I was suddenly informed that the minimum spend had gone up from £500 to £2,500 (!) I am forthright enough to stand up to something as outrageous as this hike but not everyone would be - to their credit, Grand Union apologised and reverted back to the original £500 spend I was quoted.However, the worst came today when out of the blue I had a phone call saying the company had been bought by Draft House and they were cancelling all events in July for a refurbishment. This meant that we no longer have a location for the birthday party that friends and family are travelling to from all over the UK, that we had told everyone about months ago; that everyone outside of London had made travel arrangements for. I am now left desperately scrabbling to find an alternative venue just a few weeks before the event. The pub did offer me alternatives (including suggesting changing the event to next month despite knowing it is a birthday!) but none of them were remotely suitable. The least they could have done is given me more notice to find somewhere else and not put a 30th birthday party in jeopardy.

Vi bestilte Mojito - og det var ikke nogen stor oplevelse. Der manglede mynte og der blev ikke brugt brun farin, så smagen var lidt flad

It's basically a theme pub portraying a Victorianesque interior. Little, if any, atmosphere. But the worse thing about it is the price: a bottle of beer and a small glass of wine nigh in £11!! There's far better establishments nearby.

Looking for an early dinner and a pint, and found the Grand Union fit the bill. We ordered drinks and six appetizers. They were all delicious, and served as our dinner. Very near the Imperial War Museum, and our hotel. Was well worth a visit.

We held a drinks event at the Grand Union, which was a great success. Everything went very smoothly and we were very well looked after by the staff, who were very helpful. A good time was had by all! I would definitely recommend the venue to others.

Contacted the Grand Union to bring our event group of 30 people for a "talk" with drinks and snacks after a tour of the Imperial War Museum. They were very helpful and willing to open a little early just for our group. The space turned out to be great for our event - the mix of couches and tables made it very cosy and casual. Would recommend it for similar events but also just as a general destination if you are visiting the IWM as it is very close by! A perfect museum+lunch pairing for an afternoon out :)

Var på iwm og trængte til en lille snack bagefter. Faldt over denne lidt smarte café/bar. Fik en øl fra et middel udvalg som det desværre ses alt for ofte i London. Valgte at få nogle nachos fra kortet hvor man kan vælge fra en sharing del. Her kan man vælge 4 for 16£, vi tog kun en (dog i stor) det var rigeligt til to.Desværre virkede det som om stor blot betød flere nachos og samme mængde tilbehør. Lidt tørt. Det så dog ud til at de lavede nogle ok burgere, vi smagte dem dog ikke. Rimelig hurtig servering og venlige medarbejdere.

I have used this Grand Union before and been realy happy with the service and food. My experience today was so so bad , I ordered the food options in advance, they were all wrong and the food was late, cold and a really bad quality. The burgers were all cooked medium rare with out options,the buns were hard and the Coleslaw was off and smelt like sweaty feet.The chips were barely cooked let alone hot, the cutlery was put in a basket not set out and there wasn't enough to go round. The management kept passing the blame on to staff that wasn't there ( convenient) I would never use them again as I was in tears at one point of the evening. We was given 25% of our bill ,but only after endless complaints and us demanding something in compensation. They ruined a straight forward easy lunch for 20 people on a really special occasion. I really advise you not to book a table for a special occasion with this Kennington Grand Union. A have heard that they have a new manager starting next week, goid luck to them

I went to this Grand Union with my other half back in April since we were spending a weekend in London - and it was amazing! Burger and unlimited Prosecco for £25 is an amazing deal in itself but ontop of this they treated us like royalty and were extremely attentive. They were over topping up our prosecco before we had an empty glass, they gave us a jug of water and a jug of lemonade free of charge (Sometimes Prosecco can be a bit too dry for my other half). The staff were involved in our conversation without being too intrusive, they really are a credit to this establishment. They even lit the terrace heaters for us to sit outside despite being the only ones there. The food was brilliant and felt more than just a burger, it was the most delicious burger I've ever had! Credit to all the staff there, really made it a fun and special evening.
