Dined there last night fir friends birthday. Food was amazing, I had the special lamb Koriah....superb. The naan bread was the best I have tasted. My friend enjoyed her Chicken Korma. Price unbelievable. Service slow, but really nice staff. Overall 5 stars will definitely come again xx

Me and my partner had the Yorkshire masala and chicken madras. Pretty much perfect. Best curry's in thirsk.

We’ve been customers of the Grand India as long as we’ve lived in Thirsk - 25 years. We’ve seen it vary a lot recently, but tonight was by far the worst experience we’ve ever had, anywhere. We waited 15 minutes even to be asked what we’d like to drink, and our food took an hour and 20 minutes before it was delivered. Other customers were getting up and leaving due to their wait. Just as we were about to pay for our drinks and popadums before leaving in disgust, our food finally arrived. It tasted good, but the portions were small. In the entire two hours we were in there, the SAME Bollywood track played on repeat. I think I’ll be hearing it in my sleep tonight! The final insult came when we went to the bar to pay. The young lad said it was cash only! They hadn’t pointed that out to us before we ate. We had no cash on us. We walked down the road to the local garage which had a cash machine and withdrew enough cash to pay for the meal… and paid an extra £1.99 at the machine for the privilege of accessing our own money. When we returned I pointed out to the young lad that he should have told us, before we ate, about the cash situation. He pointed out an item to me on a flyer for their ‘banquet night’, which said ‘cash only’. The problem is that we had eaten a la carte. The young lad apologised for his mistake… thought he might have offered us a discount, but he didn’t. We paid in full and left, and that’s the last time we’ll ever eat there.

Visiting the area for a few days and fancied a curry, couldn't fault this place the food was fresh, very tasty and plentiful we shared the mixed platter for starters and then shared a lime & coriander rice and pashwarie nan with our curry's it was really good. Service was good gave us time in-between courses. The only let down was its a bit tired both inside and out and it was a little cold in the restaurant but they turned off the air con when asked to, so please don't be put off by aperances as the food was good and very reasonably priced.

Service a little slow but to be fair very busy at the time with a lot of people arriving. Food was very nice, fresh and tasty. Had the banquet offer(popedoms,starter, main and side) plus 2 drinks each. Cost around £33 for 2 so a reasonable price. Enjoyed. Visited again Dec 2023. Service was very good, food was very tasty. Had the Yorkshire massala. Very tasty and quite sweet which is fine by me. Chatted with staff/owner (?) as we left. Very friendly. Very good value for money for the food and drink we had.

Had a takeaway from here. Prices were amazing, food was dreadful. We won’t be back. Naan bread was over cooked and dried out. We also ordered a scampi off the menu for a young diner but this was unbelievable. Was so hard you couldn’t break it. Not sure what meat was inside (we think maybe chicken?) as it was black or absent. Lots of much better places to eat in Thirsk.

Quality food, welcoming and friendly. We go there weekly, can't fault it. No change from our last visit.

This was the 3rd restaurant we attempted last evening. The kitchen in the first was closed for the week. We had tried to call, but no answer and a mail box that was full. Should have known! At the 2nd the chef decided to close down 35 minutes early, 10 minutes before we arrived. Luckily, we spotted Grand India! Ali and his staff were extremely personable and helpful. The food was delightfully presented and tasty. The locals who were present seemed just as happy. Highly recommended by Clarke and Debbie

Absolutely brilliant Indian food. We had it on our last night of holiday as a takeaway, absolutely stuffed our faces :-) and felt great afterwards! Wouldn't hesitate to go again or recommend

Just had a really excellent meal here, thoroughly recommend it. Would come again when in the area. We had popadums and chutney, mixed starter between us, chicken tikka balti, mushroom rice, vegetable rice and a garlic naan. Brilliant!

Googled and stopped by on the way down south. Would give it a 8/10. Bit slow with service but were packed out for a bank holiday Sunday. Right size portions for the offer, left feeling full .

Best Indian we have had for a long time.

Extremely long wait in an almost empty restaurant for very poor uninspiring and insipid food. Arrived only marginally warmer than the luke warm plates and cooled immediately. Restaurant chilly and uninviting with no atmosphere whatsoever. If I could have given it less than 1 star, I would have done so, and my 3 friends dining with me felt exactly the same. We definitely won't be back!

Ate here last night, atmosphere was great, service was excellent and food was amazing. All staff were very friendly and created a very nice atmosphere. Would highly recommend and will definitely go back when we return to this area. Definitely worth the five stars

The food from here is always delicious but the waiting time is shocking. We ordered a take away last year during lockdown to collect at a certain time. Upon collection I still had to wait 50 mins for it to be ready. Despite this experience we decided to give it another go and ordered tonight for 7.15 collection!! Obviously lockdown had nothing to do with the previous wait as still waiting for its 30 mins after the collection time again. They must take too much on and would be much better if they are upfront with their customers about the realistic wait time.

Only stayed in Thirsk for 2 nights and went to the grand India first night. The food was so good we went back the second night.food excellent and staff very friendly.

Our first time to this restaurant the service was excellent , friendly staff and nice atmosphere, food arrived quickly and was hot. Food 10 / 10 and took advantage of the 4 course meal for £9.95 great value and will definitely return and certainly recommend , but must agree with Mr Khan the restaurant is a little tired and needs a makeover though not enough to stop me going it's very clean just a little var var voom required 👍👍👍

What an amazing place to dine in. The food is lovely and the staff are really friendly. Will definitely recommend to anyone. The decor could do with a little update in some areas but it looks decent overall.

Staying in Thrisk while touring round on our motorbikes booked a table for for the 4 of us at the last minute, staff very friendly and welcoming nothing to much trouble, food was excellent best Indian cuisine We’ve had in quite awhile we all agreed it was excellent highly recommended it deserves 5 stars

Takeaway. Very little taste and watery. My least favourite Indian takeaway I can ever recall. Whoever left 5 stars was not eating at this place

me and my workmates booked this place last minute..due to lockdown 2. I'm from Bradford and know a good curry. so when I say it's on my top three curries I've ever had.. you must listen. the simple things like chapties being cooked fresh , is important .... as for rest of our meal .... well if its my tip there Indian meal. that should be enough

Fell short of expectations. Ate in with 4 friends during August. The cleanliness of the restaurant was not up to scratch i.e. there was a food stain on the table cloth when we sat down (see pic), one of the napkins had a stain on it and the radiator next to the table was filthy (see pic). The waiter brought us the wrong starters (destined for the table next to us) and didnt realise until we were half way through; they then gave our starters to the table next to ours... bizarrely they did not knock anything off the bill to compensate. The food tasted good and the staff were friendly but did mess up the order. Probably won't re-visit.

Stayed for a long weekend on a caravan site local to the Grand India. Booked a table in the restaurant. Friendly Staff and food spot on, Highly recommended. First time in the area but when we stay again we'll definitely book here for food

AVOID. Ate here last Saturday around 8pm and was projectile vomiting and Diarrhoea by midnight. Severe tummy cramps, chills, aching bones. 2 days on still suffering unable to keep water down. I have reported them

Really helpful, I wasnt sure about ordering something different, but the waiter explained exactly what the dish entailed and even offered to adjust it to my taste. He also offered me a sauce when the dish didn't come with one. We really enjoyed the food and will definitely be going back. Good value for money.

Excellent curries, but the atitude of the staff leaves a *bit* to be desired. Do not let me put you off, the food more than compensates. UPDATE; New staff, excellent service, excellent food, great bunch of lads.

Staff were extremely friendly and helpful, they have a sense of humour too which is always nice. Food was very good also and couldn't fault it. Portions were just right with many feeling full at the end.

Now called The Grand India. The chicken dansak is nicer than The Raj's used to be - it's a bit spicier and has a nicer flavour.

Hi I am jack I came to eat in Raj of Indian one time and I order khary it was really nice and spicy that's why I give five star's.

This was always one of our favourite Indian restaurants and we have frequented many times but after giving it ' one more chance ' unfortunately this will be our last time, as yet again they continue to over book, with skeleton (unhappy) staff. Great food but when you're paying premium prices you do expect and should receive that kind of experience.
