We were there for a birthday lunch on Sunday and cannot fault the fantastic staff serving us a lovely 2 course meal whilst the restaurant and hotel offered fantastic elevated views of Swanage Bay. A short descent from the garden lead us to the lovely sands. Great location and fully recommended.

We had a lovely dinner at the Grand Hotel in Swanage for the blues festival before the finale set last Sunday night. Food was delicious and staff were friendly and helpful as usual. They only have one card machine though so we had to wait quite a while to pay after our meal. Do need to book table in advance especially when there’s a music festival going on. Lovely ambient and night. Hugh Budden and Katy Fox singing the finale gig.

I was shown to a table and the order was taken in reasonable time. For some reason my drinks (tap water and a large glass of white wine) did not come. I had to ask a third time after my main course had come, only to be told “That shouldn’t have happened, we have someone on the bar tonight” instead of an apology! When offered a desert I said politely “No thank you, just the bill please”. The waitress replied “Certainly”. Twenty minutes later I had to request again! I was not offered a debit card receipt, so had to request it.

The Grand Hotel is located at the east end of Swanage bay. Note that car parking at the hotel and in the surrounding area is very limited. Your alternative if coming from Swanage town or the railway station - as long as its not raining - is the pleasant approx 15 min stroll along the promenade. We were walmly greeted by the barman Noah, who showed us to our table in the conservatory. The views of the hotel garden (furnished with tables and chairs if you prefer your food and drink outdoors), the sea and Swanage town in the distance are spectacular. We had prebooked for afternoon tea. Their was a good selection of finger sandwiches, one large scone each, and a selection of 3 cakes per person. The sandwiches and cakes were excellent - especially the mango and coconut slice which was awesome. The let down was the scone itself. It was a tad dry and too big. Two medium size scones would be better than one big dry one!Noah came to check on us a couple of times, and was always friendly and helpful, including offering a free refill on the pot of tea.The Grand is a wonderful place and part of Swanage history. Would i return? Yes definitely - as long as they sorted sconegate...

I came in with 3 of my friends and had a very nice meal with a stunning view but very unfortunately it was completely ruined by a waitress named Megan with red dyed hair who would not stop complaining about fellow staff members, little did she know we could hear her whole conversation with another waitress. She was very rude but when it came to serving us she put on a polite voice. I have worked in a hospitality business before and there is nothing worse than rude management, if she is going to be nice to customers she must do the same for fellow staff members or it creates a very tough environment to work in and it’s not pleasant for other staff members. While we were just finishing our desserts we could hear her using foul and definitely work inappropriate language. My friends and I are looking forward to coming back and will definitely let the manager know what happened that night as it went on for roughly the whole night and was very sad to see other waiters getting picked on especially one chap who looked like he was on the verge of tears after she shouted demands at him and looked to make him feel uncomfortable Infront of other customers. Very upsetting!

We had booked to go on Tuesday 3 November but as it was for two nights we contacted reception and managed to get our booking to begin on Monday. This was to avoid the lockdown. This meant we lost the sea view and had a family room. This was a nice large ensuite room. When we arrived in the room we saw a notice saying we should have been given a pack with the coffee etc but had to go and collect it. We were very impressed with the amount of storage space. The staff throughout were very smart and all wore masks. The restaurant service was friendly and efficient. The food on both days was very good. The restaurant has lovely views over Swanage bay and we were lucky to be able to have a window seat both days .I felt sorry for the staff who were due to be furloughed as they could not have done better with their Covid precautions. We agreed we would come back and stay again post covid.

Refurbished bathrooms which were very nice but sea facing rooms have thin cream curtains which let the early sun in so no chance of a lie in. The room was also very small and liable to hit your head on the eaves. The restaurant was good but portions very small. Restaurant staff very efficient and friendly. If you are travelling by car to reach the Grand Hotel, I guarantee that you will arrive feeling rather peckish. How do I know? Because the parking is abysmal- very limited off street parking - no sign of a Disabled parking space ( although I couldn’t be certain and a car could be already parked there ).So you will have to park away from the hotel and park anywhere you can - on street. So we arrived feeling rather peckish. The experience soon improved, however. We were shown to a Reserved table in the Conservatory- and what a view.Looking directly over the expanse of Swanage Bay you could easily have been in the South of France. The air was clear and The Needles were very clear indeed-might have been something to do with the Harvest Moon which was due that night. But I digress - back to the High Tea.The service was speedy and initial response was very encouraging. The food was absolutely wonderful. A good variety of sandwiches; a scone tasting that it had just been baked and a sufficient supply of jam and cream. The variety of cakes was good and my wife couldn’t quite finish off her share.I did, however !

We came here on recommendation after being turned away from a nearby pub that wasn't serving food. There was only one vegetarian option: mushroom risotto. Sounds lovely, but it had absolutely no flavour and the mushrooms were rubbery (and I usually love mushrooms!). Given there were only two other tables filled, and it came out so quickly (risotto takes me at least 30 mins to make), we are guessing it was heated in the microwave or something. Totally gross. And it cost us £16 each for the pleasure. Avoid.

Afternoon tea came with Prosecco, fresh scones, dorset apple cake, delightful little sandwiches, choc eclairs all set of by the view. Lovely day

We booked a table here to watch a blues band. The welcome was gracious and the conservatory very pleasant and comfortable. The menu was varied and surprisingly reasonable. Waiter and bar staff were friendly and very helpful. ( Mark Damian and Elliot) The food was very good, hot tasty and well presented. The staff were accommodating particularly regarding our moving seats, singing and dancing!!

Wanted a great sea view for an elderly relation celebrating a special day! Phoned ahead to ensure we would get a good view but an informal meal. They had prepared a lovely table in the conservatory near the open door as it was so hot and sunny!! We all had fish and chips - fish slightly dried out but all very tasty. Puds were good and the service couldn't be faulted. The view was to die for and this place is worth seeking out!

We had last carvery which was excellent, also made better by the manager of the restaurant, she was so pleasant and helpful. Couldn't do enough for us.

Myself and my wife went for afternoon tea and it wasn’t the best we have had which is a real shame as it’s a superb setting. Parking is the first real problem as basically there isn’t sufficient parking. Warm welcome when we arrived and superb reserved table with stunning views. The afternoon tea was mediocre at best. Sandwiches were fine but cakes and scones left a lot to be desired. In fact we thought the scones were stale and had been warmed up but might be wrong. My wife does not drink tea only coffee but she was not offered any more coffee other than the one cup she had when first seated and no one came to see if everything was okay or if we needed anything more. As I said real shame but won’t be going back.

A great Sunday lunch at The Grand Hotel: the carvery offered roast beef or pork, and other options were available. We both had the beef: delicious, with excellent Yorkshire pudding and great vegetables. Horseradish sauce was just right, enough heat, but not too much. The staff were friendly and efficient, and the wine by the glass we chose was just the right one to accompany lunch. Great table looking out across Swanage Bay, nice to be snug and well looked after on a drizzly Sunday. Would be fab on a sunny day too.

Swanage does not seem to be blessed with lots of restaurants, so we were glad to find this one. It was not crowded, the views were marvellous, the menu interesting and the service excellent.

The food in the restaurant is very nice but you dont get much on your plate for the price. You have to book a table, although there is often plenty of room. The conservatory restaurant is much better value for money and the meals are slightly bigger. you do need to book a table as that isnt as big as the restaurant.

What a great place to eat! The restaurant and bar take bookings for time slots and prepare the tables in advance, so you can be sure of a table. We chose the bar menu, which offers plenty of choice and a thoughtful presentation at a very reasonable price. The portions are not huge, it is true, but then again, they are on a par with a fine French restaurant, and the quality was excellent. Most of all, there was no pressure to order or hurry our meals; it is a relaxing vibe, overlooking the bay and beach. Take a camera for the sunset!

We drove here specifically as we've been here a few times before. My attention was drawn to the seafood platter & I was advised that the fish was fresh. The platter was 3 fish varieties, crayfish & salad @ approx £11. When it arrived, it didnt look large but,did look very nice, with plenty of crayfish. It tasted even nicer than it looked and I found it more than sufficient for a light lunch. You get what you pay for and it was worth paying for.

We went here for a Easter Sunday meal. The main resturant was fully booked, so we had to go to the bar, but it was still beautiful inside and out. There were a couple of ingrediants not avaliable, but they were replaced quickly and without fuss. The food was a delicious and the bar menu was reasonably priced. Finally, the service was great, and the staff were extraordinarily friendly and helpful. A great experience!

We were invited to a lunch time 60th party here. Parking is an issue so leave your car elsewhere. It was unfortunate that it was a very foggy day so although the hotel is right on the sea front we could not see the sea. The staff were attentive and I enjoyed my sea bream. My husband thought the pork tenderloin overcooked. The staff coped well with the volume of people. The building seemed very dated but we did not see the bedrooms.

Lovely view from the Conservatory where we ate . Went for the Beef Bougononion which was ok , but for Twelve Nicker i expect more than small childs portion that contained about four mushrooms , a few strips of beef and a piece of Dauphinoise Potato that measured about two inches square !

Had afternoon tea. Lovely view and setting but service was dire. Wanted another coffee and had to go to the hotel reception to find someone. Eclairs weren't made with fresh cream, tiny portion of clotted cream, apple cake was ok, first coffee was cold. Next to no parking at hotel and lots of double yellow lines around so had to walk some distance from car to hotel.

Haven’t been for a long time. Decided to meet some family who were holidaying in the area and was not disappointed. Will definitely be back as food and service was on point. We had mixed grills which were advertised at 24oz and certainly met that with high quality well cooked meats. The chunky chips were crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside. My wife said the lasagne was one of the best she has had. So whilst we haven’t been here for years l, we will be changing that to revisit again soon!

We have recently attended two Sunday carveries under the new management. Our first experience was the trial carvery day and the second was two weeks later. We enjoyed the first carvery (the meat and potatoes being particularly good), but some of the vegetables on that occasion weren't so good. However, our second carvery food experience was markedly better. The turkey, beef and gammon joints were all well-cooked, the meats were succulent and tender and the portions generous. On the second occasion, the vegetables were also well cooked and there was a good selection. The staff are friendly and pleasant, but the ‘front of house’ could be better organised, although to be fair one member of staff said that they were trying different “meet and greet” options on the day. Hopefully this will also improve as experience is gained. After seeing very mixed reviews since the pub changed hands earlier this year, it is great to see a good carvery returning to the village. Give it a try and help support your local pub. We will definitely be back.

Lovely food, once again. The omelettes were piping hot and delicious, and absolutely fresh. I know they were not scrimped, as they were crisp on the outside and deliciously runny on the inside. Lots of love to you all xxxx :)
