Really disappointing as the place seems to have gone in rapid decline - why do you only seem to stock hampers for everything? E wonderful selection of cheeses in the filled cabinet has been replaced by tacky gift hampers and boxes - it’s feels like a Christmas stall. While the deli food is still pretty amazing and very tasty - the truly delicious Dirty Rueben is worth every single penny, the homemade lasagne (both beef and vegetable) is great and the cheeses and antipasti never disappoint, but it’s become hugely overpriced and service has declined too, it’s not friendly. Some staff are, but some means I won’t enter so I don’t have a row about the sour faces! Dark haired young lady with wonderful body art tattoos - smile, or get a new job where you don’t need to face customers. I hear her be aggressive to other team and NEVER EVER is welcoming. Almost a deterrent. I remember when I’d have conversations with the teams years ago and chat about the days while filling the basket with wonderful foods, those days are gone. A huge shame, as it is good food, but ditch the hampers all year round, and tell the team to smile.

So the price on the counter was £4.95 but when I went to pay the bill was £10! For a turkey salad sandwich and a cup of tea. When I questioned it I was told thats the eat in price. Maybe write a new price list then. The sandwich was made from frozen bread so was dry and fell apart. It was over packed with cheap nasty lettuce and the turkey would have just covered a tablespoon. Avoid. I've eaten cheaper and better in London.

We had a range of sandwiches for a lunch break in our group. I asked for cheese and onion. Told they couldn't do cheese and onion. What??? My wife wanted tuna. Told they only did tuna and red onion. What???? If you can pout onion with tuna, you can put onion with cheese! So I had cheese and salad abd my wife had ham and salad. Got home, checked what the prices were - someone else paid. Found that adding a couple of lettuce leaves was £1.00 each !!! What???? Shan't bother again

Me and my boyfriend had a “dirty Reuben” bagel and a turkey bagel for lunch today from the deli and they were to die for.. could have eaten them over and over again! Staff were so friendly even though they were very busy. Will definitely return. My only criticism would be the price, it is a lot more compared with other bagels you can get in Leigh. £11.90 for 2 bagels is steep for lunch 😬 but we do enjoy supporting the local businesses, especially during the tough times we are experiencing now.

I thought I'd treat my builders to a bit of lunch so popped in here for 5 sausage rolls, 5 scotch eggs and 4 brownies. I was gobsmacked at the £56 c ost and because they had bagged it I was too embarrassed to back out. My, fault as I knew the price of each item, but hadn't done the maths. Anyway it was all eally dry and not great at all. The sausage rolls were average, the scotch eggs were poor and the white chocolate brownies got thrown away. I felt I had been ripped off after lunch. They are however lovely people but I won't go back. Not sure why their reviews are good as I all of us found the food really uninspiring.

We popped in for lunch. The atmosphere inside was pleasant, and the variety of local produce and home-cooked items on offer was wide-ranging and well-presented on the deli counter. COVID measures were enforced sensibly and not over-the-top. We thought the food was delicious, and excellent value: would particularly recommend the pies and bagels. We were not as impressed with the cakes however. Unfortunately the service was quite slow. I don't know if this was because they were particularly busy or understaffed, but we had to wait a considerable while to place orders and then for the table to be cleared. Would have been a 5* otherwise. Despite this we would still definitely visit again and wholeheartedly recommend.

We sat in for coffee which was excellent and I even returned later in the day for another cup. Also an excellent range of stuff in the food store. We'll have to return and have a meal there

We visited this establishment under its previous owners when it was called The Estuary. and were very satisfied indeed. This time, we noticed a distinct drop in standards. The crab sandwich was a disappointment, served on a very average white bread bap. There were no options of ciabatta or sourdough. It was billed as being served with Sicilian lemon mayonnaise, but the lemon flavour was absent. The Vegan brunch was also a disappointment. Much of the plate space was taken up by the same type of white bap, which my wife didn’t want - it was not even mentioned in the menu description. Removing it left an extremely small brunch, a tiny snack portion rather than a proper brunch. The service was slow and less friendly than previous owners The Estuary who seem to be thriving in larger premises just a few yards down The Broadway. That’s where we will be going on our next visit to Leigh. Trying to be constructive, perhaps the owners of this establishment would benefit from some professional training so they can truly deliver a ‘gourmet’ experience. I would start by offering better bread choices and looking hard at portion sizes.

What a fabulous event! Martin is an extremely knowledgeable host, and he thoroughly captured our attention with his passion for food and wine. His team are lovely, very welcoming, professional and fun. Our group of eight were blown away by the variety, quality and amount of food and wine served, everything was simply delicious, the jury was split only by the caramelised smoked salmon :-) Several other foods were new to us, and how nice it is to discover new flavours, we thought it was inspired to get us to guess the filling in the delicious appetiser 'sausage' rolls ( none of us did ) yum! I really can't praise this event highy enough, a cracking evening was had by all. Looking forward to the next one.

Absolutely fantastic little place. Wide variety of locally produced goods. You can literally pop in for some treats to take home like pies, scotch eggs, antipasti, cheeses and pâtés or you can dine in. My favourite so far is the Dirty Reuben Bagel, it’s I like any bagel I’ve ever eaten before. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area!

Absolutely appalled by the experience we had on Sat night. Booked a table for 11 people (family came down from Ipswich, a yearly catch up). It was booked a couple of months ago and confirmed on the day. Was never told there were a few sittings. Our meal came fairly quickly and all was good up to that point. As soon as our meal was finished so our bill came which we never asked for as we were still drinking. They never even asked if we wanted a dessert or further drinks. We sat for a short while but was asked to leave as they needed the table. We were fuming as it had only been just over an hour since we got there. A long way to come for an hour. Needless to say we will not be going there again. So please when booking there make sure they tell how long you have.

We visited for my husband‘s birthday. We were a table of five and arrived at 7 pm. On arrival. We were the only diners in the restaurant. Three other tables were occupied by the time that we left 9 pm. This was a sat night. The menu has changed fewer choices or maybe fewer fine dining choices. The signature dish seemed to be the steak either steak on the stone or cooked so we opted for steak. The menu even contains a little joke. “Don’t ask the chef to cook well or medium well “ I opted for medium rare so when it arrived, I struggled to find the pink meat. I also ordered some garlic bread for our daughters, it arrived smothered in cheese but no mention that it would have cheese both daughters don’t eat cheese . The waiting staff require additional training. A female server. Didn’t even apologise when I complained about my steak instead told me it would be a further 15 minutes for a new piece , that wouldn’t work as everyone else had been served. They would’ve been nearly finished when mine arrived. Her solution was to scrap the order all together, but I came to a restaurant to eat. That wasn’t a good solution, the senior server, or maybe the manager later came over and offered to compensate for the steaks and provided a discount, which is really good of him, the chips could’ve been triple cooked for that crispy restaurant feel they suspiciously look like they may have come out of a packet also . After we complained about the steaks, we didn’t receive any additional service. We had to request a desert menu, being gluten-free. I asked what was gluten-free on the menu. I was told nothing it’s not completely unusual but usually you’re offered either ice cream or sorbet. We had the feeling that we were no longer wanted so forfeited the deserts for our table of five, asked for the bill and left, one of our diners was in a wheelchair, no point did anyone offer to open the door so we navigate of the double doors ourselves and left disappointed . Positively the cocktails and the beers were delicious. My recommendation would be hire some staff that smile or are attentive, become a bar and do what you are good at. This used to be one of my husband’s favourite restaurants in Southend. I’m not sure will visit again though. Bad times!

The waitress was an absolute star, she persevered with two pensioners. The fish and chips were a tad disappointing, though the fish was well cooked, the chips were suffering from anaemia. I would struggle to describe the mushy peas but my wife's side salad was brilliant. All in all, a little disappointing, though we would go again.
