This was my second visit to Gouqi, and once again I was blown away by the experience. To start, we got crispy fried chicken and prawn/dragonfruit salad; the chicken was full of flavour - unlike anything I’ve had before. For mains: the lamp was marbled like wagyu, worth visiting for this alone; the sea bass was cooked beautifully, accompanied by iberico pork; and the jumbo prawns were cooked beautifully, quite rare to find. Although comfortably full, we were tempted by the desert menu — and once again, shocked by the quality and creativity. We chose a selection of three deserts, each of which had contrasting flavours and textures which were the perfect way to round off the meal. We can’t wait to come back to see what’s new on the menu, and experience the great service once more. Couldn’t recommend Gouqi any more!

French Gillardeau oysters are my favourite! This time, I chose the Thai-style hot and sour approach, after frying, but still retained the tender and juicy taste inside. Gillardeau is known as the oyster world "Rolls Royce", 59 breeding techniques &more than 4 years before they can be marketed, the meat is plump and plump, and it is said to be generally only served in the Michelin three-star Oh.

Had a great experience with my girlfriend last weekend! This was our second time to come to the restaurant. We were a bit surprised that we were given a private table. The Peking Duck was fantastic! The skin had little fat and was crispy. Combined with the caviar, the meat tasted super nice. The lobster soup with crispy rice was so fresh that we finished every single bit! The cocktails, however, were not our favourites. We ordered Mu Long and Gouqi Island 2.0, but both tasted too bitter for us. Finally, appreciate the restaurant for keeping the umbrella we forgot there! Will definitely come back!

One word- exquisite. I booked this venue after an intense search and research. I came across this venue from TikTok and started researching more about the hx of the chefs and my God did they deliver. I rented the private room for my gender reveal and everything about the whole evening was on point. The service was top notch, very mindful, very demure. We was a demanding group and everything was taken care off. The waiters was amazing, very fast and also did try their best. You can tell the training and experience was 10/10. The food was delicious! Every single option I picked was cooked to perfection. As this was a private booking I did request some off menu items which the restaurant accommodated and made. Prior to my big day I had a brief meeting with Alan who was reassuring and we went through the menu options together. - some advice - those ribs and noodles was AMAZING- please add it on the menu. I’m soo impressed with everything and soo grateful with the outcome especially being someone who always wants to be in control this was such a great event. Everyone spoke very highly of the team, venue and of course the food. Thanks so much to the whole team. I really appreciate it and you will see me soon !!!! Some pics I have uploaded. But the DUCK ! The DUCK!! Amazing.

I had the most amazing time celebrating my birthday with 18 guests this past Saturday. I could not recommend Gouqi more. Nathaniel the assistant manager offered impeccable service, even from when I called to make my reservation. The whole reservations team were extremely professional and polite, truly customer-forward. The Co-founder Alan Tang also emailed directly to ensure menu orders were arranged. On the day itself, the team graciously upgraded us to the private dining room (which was stunning) and we had the signature menus. There was more than enough food and it all came in a timely manner, not rushed, and piping hot. The actual food itself was divine, very inventive - the duck salad was beyond my guests expectations, there was a lot of tender meat paired delicately with honey dew melon. For anyone who is a fan of Yuatcha, Hakkasaan et al. I couldn't recommend more and it has a much more intimate vibe than those, with beautiful pods in the main room. At the end of the night, although it was past closing, the team were still constantly smiling and encouraged us not to rush. I will definitely be back again as will many of my guests who did not have one bad bite!

Booked a table here for two on Friday night, but needn't have bothered as the place was only 10% full. Reading the menus, the duck seemed to be a specialty here, so we were keen to try it. Ideally we wanted a duck with pancakes, but the menu choices were either the "Legendary Peking Duck" (£128) which comes with pancakes or the "Gouqi’s Signature Roast Duck (Half)" (£39.50) which came without. Not a problem I thought, I'll just order the half duck with some pancakes on the side. Not a chance. My simple request was met with complete intransigence by the waitress who told me this wasn't possible. She said I however could order the legendary peking duck as a half. Great, I said, "how much would that be". "The same price as a full one" she replied. So instead we ordered the rack of lamb (£52) and Kung Pao Chicken (£27.50), Dried and Fresh Scallop Egg White Fried Rice (£31.50) and Baby Pak Choi (£23.50). While the food tasted OK, portions were small, particularly given the extortionate price. I have had much better in China town for a fraction of the cost. Entry level wine was £60 (South African Gewürztraminer). All-in-all the bill came to just under £300 and we left leaving hungry and disappointed with the inflexible service that seems happy to treat customers like idiots. If you find this place by accident my advice would be to have a five minute walk up Haymarket to China town for a better meal at a fraction of the cost.

I am so glad to be awarding this restaurant a 5 star! What a place! 🥰 Is it the food, service, staff etc they all went over and beyond to ensure it was a fantastic private dining experience. So we had this customised menu which gave us the opportunity to eat about 12 courses of great food. Oh my daze, packed with flavour, texture, colour, presentation, service...they are super excellent! This is authentic Chinese cuisine and the price was sooooooo great value for money. Location wise, the closest tube station is Charing Cross and it's a 4 mins walk from Trafalgar square. The staff were professional and attentive, super friendly and accommodating. The layout and decor showcased Chinese culture and they stay true to it. Though the toilets are located at the basement (stairs by the entrance, it doesn't take away from its beauty. The dim sums, duck pancake, beef and chicken in black sauce, the crab starter, everything ticked the box so right! When you see the Chinese eating in a Chinese restaurant, you can be rest assured you are having the real deal. The bar area is sufficiently stacked and there are 3 other semi private dining areas. In all I will definitely visit again and again and recommend to everyone who cares to know that Gouqi is the best Chinese restaurant I have visited 🥰

GouQi in London has quickly become my favourite Chinese restaurant, especially for its unbeatable location near Trafalgar Square. My recent dining experience there was nothing short of spectacular, with both the dim sum and Peking duck standing out as culinary highlights. The dim sum menu was extensive and offered a wonderful variety of traditional and innovative options. Each piece was crafted with precision and care, resulting in delicate, flavourful bites that were simply unforgettable. The prawn dumplings were plump and juicy, while the BBQ pork buns were soft, sweet, and savory. The variety ensured that every palate was catered to, and each dish was a testament to the Chef Tong’s expertise. The Peking duck, however, was the star of the evening. Served with all the traditional accompaniments, the duck was carved at our table with impressive skill. The skin was perfectly crisp, and the meat was succulent and flavorful. The combination of the duck with the delicate pancakes, fresh cucumber, and rich hoisin sauce was pure perfection. I was so lucky to have Chef Tong himself preparing the fresh Peking duck. In addition to the outstanding food, the service at GouQi was exemplary. The staff were friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable, making excellent recommendations and ensuring our dining experience was seamless. The ambiance of the restaurant added to the overall enjoyment, with its elegant decor and comfortable seating providing a sophisticated yet welcoming atmosphere. For anyone seeking an exceptional Chinese dining experience near Trafalgar Square, GouQi is a must-visit. Their dim sum and Peking duck are truly top-notch, making it the best Chinese restaurant in the area. Highly recommended!

I ate with my friends and ordered the signature roast duck with caviar in advance. Maybe I am a rough person and the caviar feels fishy and I can’t appreciate the duck skin. It’s not the crispy type. The service is quite attentive. The waiter is quite humorous and keeps serving, but it’s a Chinese restaurant. There is no special tea set for making tea, which is a bit awkward. Then I mistakenly ordered a dish I didn’t order and hurriedly withdrew it. My friends said it was okay. The salted egg yolk barbecued pork and the Regal Fried Rice were okay, mainly because I didn’t know. Is there any other Chinese restaurant in London that can compete with Royal Treasure House? So I can’t decide. This restaurant’s experience is just okay. If you want to eat, you can try it. This meal for four people without ordering drinks is about 500.

My overall experience was deeply disheartening, beginning with the lackluster service upon our arrival. Despite being walk-ins without a reservation, the reception we received was surprisingly unwelcoming, leaving much to be desired in terms of hospitality. The noticeable delay in receiving our drinks only added to the frustration, a perplexing occurrence given the near-empty state of the establishment. Upon finally receiving our drinks, we were eager to enjoy our meal, only to be met with further disappointment. The food, unfortunately, fell short of expectations; it was dry and lacked the attention to detail that one would hope for in a dining experience. From the presentation to the taste, every aspect seemed to miss the mark. In the end, the combination of poor service and subpar food left a lasting impression of dissatisfaction. It's unfortunate that what could have been an enjoyable dining experience turned out to be quite the opposite.

Went here a few months ago for the Peking duck tasting set. The food is not bad, although the ordering of the menu is kind of strange. Also eating duck on its own without other dishes is a bit strange for a Chinese person. What I hated was the wine pairing. 65 pounds for 5 glasses, each pour less than a two sips. When we asked the sommelier about it , he was very haughty, all “we can’t pour you more, you’d be having too much wine!”. I’ve never been to a restaurant where the wine pairing was insufficient to go with the food we were consuming. Ridiculous. Won’t be going back. The music was terrible too. There I was, wiping away tears on Chinese New Year’s Eve as a Chinese, instead of celebrating. It was the close of the Year of the Rabbit, and all I wanted was to dive into authentic Chinese cuisine with my friends, sharing the flavors I cherish deeply. We picked this restaurant for its rave reviews—authentic dishes, an atmosphere buzzing with energy, and the promise of a dragon dance that brings any celebration to life. Despite a frustrating start with our booking, the actual meal blew me away. The food? Spot on, every single dish. The vibe, with dragons dancing through the room, and the team's kindness made it unforgettable. It was supposed to be a night about the joy of sharing food, not frustration. But getting to that point was a headache. I tried to tweak our booking to fit more friends in, avoiding a set menu that was a no-go for me (thanks, lobster allergy). All I asked was to shift our night out by a week. Simple, right? Wrong. The restaurant's director shut me down with a cold "No, you can’t. It’s $100 each if you reschedule now... That’s the policy." before that I already have several phone calls with them. What got me was OpenTable said fees were for no-shows or cancellations, not pushing a date back. This felt like hitting a wall when I was just trying to share a piece of my world. In the heart of China, food transcends mere taste—it weaves emotions, memories, and a sense of belonging into a rich tapestry of communal experience. Fuchsia Dunlop captures this essence beautifully, noting the enduring impact of a meal on our souls. Yet, before even setting foot in the restaurant, the anticipation was marred by procedural sourness. Now, having dined there, both I and my friends are all praise for the food and vibe. I It's just a shame that the journey there was marked by such unnecessary stress.I hope future guests can enjoy the great food and ambiance, feeling welcomed by the genuine warmth and flexibility that epitomize true Chinese hospitality.

Wait staff said people with reservation at 19:30 aren’t seated yet because guests arrive late and refused to leave when their time slot is up. We got our table at 20:35. 2. Cutleries were directly placed on the empty table. Initially I thought its their serving style but when the waiter brought out plates, napkins, chopstick rest for the 2nd round I realised they simply didn’t tidy our table when we sat down. 3. First dish that came was the desert. 4. All dishes served was cold or lukewarm. We complained about the sticky rice dish which needs to be eaten hot and got a replacement, which was also lukewarm, and they charged us for the replacement. 5. We reserved a £120 roast duck 3 days before our reservation, was told it needs at least 45 minutes to prepare as if they are making it on the spot. Then it took almost 2 hours to arrive cold. 6. Restaurant manager’s reason for duck being cold is because he “worked in hospitality business for years with experience at shangrila that’s how peking ducks were served: cold” 7. We were offered discount due to the horrible experience, and then the final bill was wrong with extra item and portions added to the bill. They took more than £30 off the total cost after they removed incorrect items. For a restaurant that wants a Michelin star and is charging more than £150 per person, we had a horrible experience throughout and the limited menu food was mediocre at best. It showed how incompetent they really are. I do not recommend this place to anyone.

Came here in August 2023 with family and had a lovely meal. All the staff accommodated us really well, including all the dietary requirements we had. The food was delicious and the service excellent. We really enjoyed our lunch. Thank you to all at Gouqi, especially Alan who managed our booking. I hope to come back again soon.

salty Peking duck taste like honkong roast duck. Steam fish is overcooked so I don’t know what the chef was thinking and the chef made the Peking duck taste like 5 pound roast duck was desapointing. A suggestion for all restaurants owners stop finding Cantonese chef to run your Peking duck’s section they don’t know how to do it.

A restaurant that successfully fuses elegance and modernity with traditional details and recipes. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive. We loved the duck menu, including duck salad, soup, Peking duck and duck fried rice. The dessert, a medley of mango and passion fruit, was also out of this world. Can’t wait to go back to try their dim sum.

I absolutely love the stunning decor, stylish furnishings and overall vibrant ambiance. The highlight was undoubtedly the dim sum and duck, both of which were incredibly delicious. The service was top-notch too. My only complaint is the cucumber and leek that came with the duck were dry and the sauce was a bit too sweet for me. For the second course of the duck dish, try 椒盐鸭架!

Nice bar with very polite and professional service. Can be very busy and quite noisy. Good wine and cocktail list. Not the cheapest of venues but worth it for a special occasion.
