Just an update. The Bull Inn in Whitwell, Hertfordshire is only Closed during the refit. It’s planned to reopen on the 30th August 2024 😃

We booked on the day we wanted to visit with a request for a table with room to accommodate our greyhound. We given a large table with plenty of room so the dog was not in any ones way. The food was of a very high standard with the lamb rump outstanding. The service was friendly and unobtrusive.

Another great meal. Best pie for years. Best mash ever. All served by lovely, friendly staff. Dog friendly too. Why go miles for great food when this lovely pub is on our doorstep. It’s not cheap but then neither is the food which is top quality.

Another fantastic meal! The food is always exceptional and the service is great. It’s lovely that the owner takes his time to make sure you have enjoyed your time there. It has, in 3 visits, become our place to go! Looking forward to trying the Sunday lunch on Father’s Day!

Food and service was excellent. Really high quality ingredients and preparation. The pub has a really nice ambience and feel. HOWEVER. The experience was marred somewhat. I parked legally. Taxed. Car park full. On a road next to the pub outside a row of cottages. No disabled markings. No parking restrictions. No gates obstructed. An irate resident demanded the pub request I move the vehicle. Why? Because it was ‘their’ space. Had they been more pleasant I wouldn’t have mentioned it. They were just angry and twisted (JR Roofing) When it was explained I wouldn’t move until it was confirmed I wouldn’t be blocking cars in in the car park they went red in the face. Clearly they are used to people being intimidated by their angry demeanour. Rather than cause pleasant staff problems I went in and checked and accommodated. Hopefully the establishment can work out a system where this entitled, quick to temper person doesn’t try and intimidate patrons with their tantrums. Fortunately I’m used to dealing with such people - in the future this may become an issue.

We really enjoyed our visit to The Bull. Super friendly staff and the food was great! Our only slight disappointment was that the food took a long time to come out - over an hour. Love that the food is cooked fresh and they did explain it was because we were the first customers of the day and the ovens needed time to get warmed up. Personally I wish there were more real ale options with only Proper Job available. All in all, would definitely return again!

Friendly service, beautiful seasonal produce, cooked perfectly. We enjoyed a wonderful lunch here. Cosy surroundings with a lovely ambiance. Look forward to dining here again.

A lovely pub with different areas. Old and traditional with slanting floors. There were plenty of staff and all very friendly with great personalities. I love a roast… mine was pretty perfect. I booked a landmark family birthday party for 14 people at 5.30pm on a Saturday evening - we had youngsters so did not want to be any later. Some of the family had travelled here from Yorkshire and Berkshire with their children and we were delighted to be given a nice room to ourselves at the back of this well respected village pub. Unfortunately, it soon felt that the kitchen was not ready to cater for so many at one time and the two friendly serving staff made a hash of the orders, resulting in a bit of to and fro-ing as things were returned etc. Following a long wait (35minutes) after the starters had been cleared there was more confusion with the main meals resulting in a final steak being served long after the rest of us had finished, this was deducted from the bill but the optional service charge wasn't and it wasn't paid either! As we walked through the main bar, the place was busy with diners and we met a family friend who is a regular and told us the food is really good here whereas we thought it was average. I can only surmise that our experience was perhaps down to our early dining time when the the full kitchen compliment were unavailable.

The atmosphere was relaxed, cosy and friendly. Service was excellent and well the food was better than most top notch restaurants in the Uk.

We went for my mum's birthday. Excellent food, great atmosphere and they were especially accommodating of my sister's dietary requirements. All in all a great experience!

We came here for an anniversary lunch. So many restaurants only have a basic pub/burger-bar lunch menu, it was difficult to find somewhere that served home-cooked, top-notch food. The Bull indeed fulfilled the brief. Having dined in many of the best rated restaurants within a 10 mile radius of Hitchin, this is one of the best! The beautiful old building and village location provided a lovely ambience. The service was very friendly & efficient (thank you Storm). The food was truly delicious and the portions generous (thank you kitchen team). We thoroughly recommend this restaurant and will be back with friends and family.

Great local pub with a roaring fire and cosy menu. We’ve been meaning to eat here for months - it did not disappoint. A Great menu - all four of our mains were excellent, we love that The Bull are supportive of local suppliers and there are some nice English vineyards on the wine list along with the usual favourites - and great choice with wine available by the glass, carafes or bottle! Really friendly and super efficient service, dog friendly too with a great atmosphere with all tables booked on a Friday night. Would highly recommend and we’ll be back for sure. Thank you.

Nice pub food but over an hour's wait between starter and mains. Early evening so wasn't expecting such slow service. Friendly service sort of made up for it though.

Made a late decision to book somewhere for dinner on a Saturday evening. As there was 5 of us, we had to go further afield than normal. This was our first visit to The Bull and we were very impressed. There is a good range of dishes with sea food as a speciality. Our vegetarian and gluten free friends had no problem choosing. The service was a little slow, but attentive, friendly and helpful. The food was fantastic and we will certainly be back.
