Two couples stayed in apartment 1a and 1b, two large ensuite bedrooms, beautifully decorated and the best beds ever either side of a shared lounge. An excellent set up. Breakfast was excellent for both the vegan and non vegan guests. Thank you Barbara and all the team.

We visited here twice during our trip to the lakes and both times were brilliant! Food was the best we had - huge recommendations for the venison and haggis pie and the chicken fajitas. Puddings - sticky toffee was a winner! Dog friendly inside, cosy by the fire. Lovely outdoor seating area too. Highly recommend!

One of the best beer gardens we found in the Lake District. Didn’t do Sunday lunch but they were happy to tell us where to go. So impressed with the friendly and helpful service we returned to spend another afternoon in the sun snd enjoy the delicious light bites served between 2pm and 5pm. Homemade pies were delicious and not to be missed

Very last minute booking due to a different hotel making a mistake with our booking. We were 2 guests and they had one room available which they offered to split into single beds rather than a double. Within 15 minutes we had gone from being left stranded in Gosforth with nowhere to stay to having our room sorted and being in. Great service, good price and also great food in the restaurant.

The inn is delightful and a great ambiance with good staff. That said the food was really disappointing. We ordered a good selection of tapas and whilst mushrooms and Camembert were good the rest were frozen processed nibbles that felt like they had just opened a bag from Iceland . Really disappointing given the inn is so nice but at £8/9 for tapas 4 pieces of frozen halloumi was not on really. I am sorry to leave negative review but it’s true.

Booked a last minute trip, from the minute we arrived to leaving, it’s been amazing and will definitely be back. Room is spacious and bathroom very modern, the place is spotlessly clean, I can’t find a single fault here. Had tea last night which was lovely, I opted for the tapas menu which was all freshly cooked. The bar is fully stocked with a wide range of drinks. The beer was great. Breakfast this morning I can honestly say was THE best l have ever tasted in any hotels/B&B etc, all freshly and locally sourced food even down to the bread and butter. The staff work so hard, everything in the bar area is spotless. I can’t recommend this place enough. Thank you for a great stay

Welcoming open fire on a very cold frosty evening. Varied menu, steaks, curry, scampi, burger etc but seemed to specialise in home made pies. A few of us went down the pie route (chicken & leak) & it was more than just a “pie” was very tasty. Is also dog friendly, quick service & choice of ales. All in all was a great evening.

We’ve just stayed here for my birthday, we took our dog with us. The hotel is perfect, the rooms are clean and comfortable. We had dinner in the restaurant which was amazing and the cocktails were delicious. The beer garden is great, it literally feels like you’re sitting in the med( the weather helped) . The staff were absolutely fantastic and helpful, they made such a fuss of our dog Max. I can highly recommend this hotel… we will definitely be back!

On our first night in Gosforth we found a superb place to eat. The beer garden is massive. So although there were other dogs there we were able to find a quiet spot in the corner undercover (dogs are allowed in the bar area too). They have a good selection of beers and the food is excellent (we ordered the steak, sea bass and the famous pie between us). We also went back on the Sunday for their festival and enjoyed standing at the outside bar listening to the bands. A great find. Highly recommend!

Came here as a family, 5 adults, 2 teens and a dog, on a recommendation of my son. We weren't disappointed. Lovely outdoor seating, perfect evening and a good family atmosphere, very dog friendly. Good drinks including a decent 0% beer. Our son raved about the pies here, choice of 3, but only one of the one we all wanted. Never had a pie so full of meat, I chose Moroccan lamb, which was delicious, son had venison and haggis pie, others all happy with their choices too. Finished off with the best Eton Mess ever had. Not the cheapest, but excellent quality. Best bit was our son paid as our 45th wedding anniversary present.

Let me say it does have an amazing beer garden quality furniture, ambient music, and really clean and dog friendly. The staff were fabulous very helpful and offered doggy treats. The drinks were well priced considering the location. The not so good was the lunch time tapas /light bites. frozen food, deep fried, and not of the best quality, I would have expected real onion rings they are not that hard to make, and the chicken wings were a little watery inside due to probably high heat and deep fried, so pricing to quality ratio was not as it should be, the cheesecake was delicious, but again the price point at nearly £9.00 for pre made cheesecake was a little high, I would go again enjoy the scenery the great surroundings but not to eat lunch/tapas, we eat out a lot and can normally get quality tapas 3 plates for around £12/14 for 3 from an independent restaurant. I felt £45 for dirty chips, haloumi bites, chicken wings, onion rings and 2 cheesecakes over priced

What a fantastic dinner we had in The Gosforth Hall Inn last night. We'd won a little money at the weekly quiz there and decided to recycle it by spending it on a meal and we certainly weren't disappointed. We opted to book our table in the ingle nook room which was very welcoming with a roaring log fire. Great service placing our food and drink order. To eat I opted for the Sea Bass, one friend opted for a lamb shank and the other curry. There wasn't a morsel left when we moved onto the desert course - 2 X Eaton Mess and 1 X Chocolate Brownie. Great meal, well cooked, presented and served. Highly Recommended 😁😁

Staff not the friendliest. Came in to an empty bar area and took a seat at a table only to be rudely snapped at “that table is taken”. No “reserved” signs as were on other tables. Waitress didn’t know the menu portions. When I asked how many pieces of scampi she replied “I don’t know, I don’t count them”. In my opinion this is a key selling point with scampi. Quality of the food was good.

A nice country pub. The decor inside was a bit sparse but that might have been because they had taken some tables away because of Covid. The food was a bit mixed. My wild boar burger tasted of sausage meat - no sense of it being boar. And it didn’t come with the extras you expect with a burger (salad pickles etc) it was just a huge hunk of sausage. The rack of lamb was over cooked. But the creme brûlée was very nice. The service was friendly.

There are always 2-3 pies on each day. We tried the steak, bacon and mushroom and also the Moroccan lamb. Both were excellent, stuffed full of meat and with great home cooked chips. There is an offer of pie for £10 on a Thursday saving £3. Our daughter had the steak which was huge and cooked just as ordered. The only reason I haven’t given 5 stars is that the rhubarb wasn’t cooked properly in the crumble and the service was a little slow. Definitely the best pub grub around though and well worth the drive for anyone staying in Wasdale area.

We ate at Gosforth Hall, it was my birthday and I was looking for something special. I had the lemon salmon with salad. The lemon salmon consisted of a salmon fillet with a lemon wedge next to it. We ate here because the reviews were good and the weather was terrible and we needed pie therapy! My partner was very happy with his sweet chilli pulled pork pie and I mostly enjoyed the inside of my 'spicy lamb' pie. It had good quality lamb in it but wasn't very spicy or exciting and the crust, oh my goodness! I couldn't get my cutlery through parts of it without a struggle. It was also quite dry and could have done with much more gravy. My mum enjoyed her cheese melt chicken which was full of meat. My son was disappointed at the lack of choice for 'normal' taste buds and opted for a you-know-where-you-are-with-it burger and asked for any 'frills' to be held back. They enjoyed their puddings. I did think it a rather expensive pie house.

I didn't give five stars because they have got to be reserved for somewhere like l'Enclume! We have never had anything other than a good food experience here. Whether it be breakfast or dinner, you can rely on an appealing, sensibly short menu. I say 'sensibly short' because so often menus try to offer everything and end up doing nothing very well. Rod's pies are well known in the area and always have some mouth watering fillings. They are a great meal - quite literally! The menu offers various alternatives for the more faint hearted or diet conscious amongst us. Along with a reasonable wine list, good cask ales and great staff, this is a good place to be. The owners take great pride in what they do and, like l'Enclume, they also offer very comfortable rooms.

Have just returned from a weekend break in Gosforth and feel I need to make a comment regarding Gosforth Hall's restaurant. We visited the restaurant on Friday night the 19th of Feb and were looking forward to a drink and a good meal in the restaurant. I must say the pub is quite lovely with a good atmosphere and a welcoming warm fireplace which added to the expectation to our evening. The menu looked appealing with a good choice of dishes and we ordered our meals, I ordered the house special curry and my partner ordered the lamb casserole. Our meals arrived duly and looked delicious, however this is where things changed a little for the worse. My partners dish as stated was the lamb casserole which looking at the dish you would have seen 2 lamb cutlets covered in a rich gravy with accompanying vegetables. She cut into the lamb and started to eat her meal whilst we chatted and enjoyed our evening, however after her first mouthful she looked at me cut a portion of the cutlet and said this is not lamb its pork ! She cut a further part of the cutlet and clearly you could see this was not a lamb cutlet but a pork cutlet, now both us are not the complaining type but it was felt we needed to clarify with a member of staff our confusion with ordered lamb casserole, the response we got was it was definitely lamb even when my partner sliced the cutlet and showed the staff member, as anyone will agree pork tends to be a white meat whilst lamb a rather brown meat when cooked. The member of staff however still insisted it was lamb even saying it might be an older sheep ! If that was the case then we would have been seeing a portion of mutton which again is brown appearing meat when cooked. Whilst the member of staff wasn't exactly rude her attitude was a tad condescending, now at this point I could have made of fuss and upset the atmosphere of the other diners but held my temper in check. The member of staff did offer to change the meal but there was no real empathy with my partner nor an acknowledgment that the cutlet was not lamb but pork. At no point was it our attention to create a fuss nor look for recompense, by this time I had almost finished my meal so the offer to change the dish was too late. My partner did not finish her meal which rather ruined the evening, we had a sweet which was good and then decided we wanted to pay up and leave. However my partner did feel she wanted to make her feelings known to the member of staff before we payed, again there was no acknowledgement of my partners complaint just a condescending comment about that the member of staff had the dessert herself and was not pork, the result when the bill arrived was a £3 reduction ! We payed and left, my impression of Gosforth Hall is one of disinterest where customers are concerned and where there is a paying customer paying £50 for a meal a little more interest in what the customer is saying would be appreciated.

A friend from work recommended we try a meal here sometime, and on a Thursday evening (weary from a long day at the office) we did. It's a little difficult to find if you're not familiar with the village, but with seeking out. Our server was Nikki (sorry if misspelled). She was absolutely delightful - fun, knowledgable, and professional. All of the staff were attentive. The food was very good. My chicken and leek pie was full of flavourful meat, the accompanying peas and freshly made chips were cooked to perfection. (The only thing I would change is to serve any gravy on the side.) My husband ordered the Cajun spiced salmon. The fish was perfectly cooked, the seasoning had just the right amount of heat. They had plenty of local beer on tap, are dog friendly, and just enough olde worlde-ness to make you feel you've been to a proper pub. Thoroughly enjoyable. Must remember to thank our friend on Monday!

What a wonderful place to stay. It's such a refreshing change to find a hotel that doesn't think it's OK to put dog owners in their worst rooms which are always second class! We arrived and were very warmly welcomed by Barbara the owner. Our room B7 was in a new build or barn converted annex separate from the main hotel. The room was beautiful. Attention had been paid to details a huge comfortable bed, fabulous shower in a gorgeous bathroom. The floor was wooden so great for dogs! Our evening meal and breakfast were beautiful. The staff are very friendly and can't do enough to help. We will definitely be returning. Thank you Barbara and staff for a wonderful weekend

Within walking distance of our visit so drinking wasn't hampered during our stay. Food is great, recommend the pies there.

The Gosforth Hall Inn had been recommended to us. So we quickly visited in the evening and were told we could sit in the bar with the wheelchair, and did not need to make a booking. So we arrived at about 7:30 and ordered bar meals including Fish and Chips etc. So then we waited, and waited etc., for well over an hour. Enquiries as to the whereabouts of our meal were met with, 'the table bookings in the restaurant come first, your meal is on it's way'.When it eventually did turn up, one person left the fish, as it was nothing like that described on the menu. I struggled through mine because of hunger, and nothing else. Another member of the group had a pie, which they said was fine. The bar service was fine, no problems at all, the meal was a sad disappointment. We will not be visiting Gosforth Hall Inn again.

This restaurant has very friendly staff and make you feel very welcome. They have very special pies, my husband had spicy Moroccan lamb, other included buffalo and many more. The pies are quite large but full of meat. Gordon Ramsey had called in that day and was coming back to eat the following Saturday. The chips are to die for. We had a four year old with us who was tired and ratty and wanted to eat porridge, that was exactly what he got. The staff were happy to keep the four year old happy. I would recommend this restaurant.

I’ve been staying at this wonderful hotel whilst in the area on business for the last 5 years and from day 1 there has always been a warm welcome. The rooms are excellent especially the newly refurbished ones in the old hall. There is a good selection of beers and a varied menu which is always of excellent quality. I tried other hotels / eating places in the area but nothing compares to the Gosforth Hall. The staff are extremely friendly and will always help with any requests. Would highly recommend.

After a long walk we were walking passing and looking in the window to see if they were open. The woman from behind the bar came out and told us to come in. The atmosphere was great, music playing, fire burning and the barmaid asked about our day. We both ordered pie (one kangaroo the other steak) and chips and it was amazing!! Can't wait to go back :-)

We stayed for two nights. The hotel is tastefully decorated and has a friendly atmosphere. The staff are professional and seem genuinely happy to be working - which means the service is great. The food was amazing. I am a vegetarian and often find the veggie food can be a bit flavourless. Not here, I really enjoyed the food. They have a beer garden and are dog and family friendly. The owners (Rod and Barbara) are clearly passionate about good service and are really lovely people. The hotel is only a short drive away from Skarfell and the surrounding views are definitely worth a look. Will definitely come back for another stay.

Few drinks with the girls, perfect to sit in the beer garden enjoying a jug of pimms, or two...Small bar but lovely staff and for a village full of contractors prices are reasonable.

This place was booked for me as I was travelling in the area. I was late in and had to order quickly from the menu. Opted for the sirloin steak medium rare. When it came it was perfectly cooked and had hand cut chips with it. Very friendly attentive staff made the meal an all round very pleasurable experience.

Went for a quick meal and ended up having a 3 course dinner. Starter of black pudding salad was very tasty as was the goats cheese that my wife had.The mains of pan fried duck and a tuna nicoise were excellent. Dinner ended with a couple of deserts that would not be found on any diet sheet. All in all a very fine meal.

This looks like a very nice restaurant but the food let's it down.....unfortunately for us we were there when a golf crowd were in...so very noisy. There were no steaks on the menu and no burgersI had tuna steak...very tasteless and looked like it had been microwaved ..two thin pieces...no seasoning...We were there on a Saturday night, there were only 2 staff serving, couldn't get their attention to order more drinks.Shame as it looks lovely ....

Lovely setting in this old inn. We were quite late for lunch so it wasn't busy but the service was friendly and efficient whilst the pies were well worth the visit. I had the Steak and Ale version whilst my wife had the Moroccan lamb. A very hearty helping and sustained us during our walk in the afternoon! Great value for money given the quality of the food and the surroundings. The range isn't huge but from what I could see from my fellow diners you won't be disappointed whatever you choose.

We were here for two friends' birthday party and had a great time. The food for lunch was good and the bar was really friendly with a good range of drink. Stuff in the garden for kids to play on. Big screen for the rugby. Also free parking. What more do you need?

Staff were very friendly, the atmosphere was good and the food was well cooked and they had a varied menu that was not too large. The only down side, if you can call it that is that the portions are on the big side, a pity as I like dessert!

Welcoming and great homecooked food, nothing fancy, just good, tasty wholesome food. We had two Lasagnes and a fish n chips and Scampie enjoyed by all and generous portion sizes. Family and very dog friendly. A lovely atmosphere and character. We would be very happy to return. Thanks

Does the boss ever smile? Food was okay but the boss rushing around with a face like thunder. Doesn't matter how busy you are but doesn't take much to smile
