Gorilla Coffee Cafe in Birmingham

A superb breakfast was enjoyed at the Gorilla Coffee Cafe, made by Sarah, the new Cook, with non greasy hash browns, delicious mushrooms, crispy thick bacon, fluffy sausages, fresh tomatoes and more! A fabulous, value for money experience that surpassed expectations. Definitely worth a visit! Just off the main road,friendly atmosphere, clean and relaxing.

Lovely community space. Very friendly engaging people. The outside seating is south facing so if the sun's out, a fine place to share bike tips, or sit, reflect, chat

Having read another reviewers views being fairly negative I wanted to see gor myself. Ordering and seating isn't rocket science, order at the counter and they tell you they'll bring it over! Easy peasy. The lady who served me was warm and welcoming. Ordered a latte and breakfast. The comment previously that it's dearer than local brunch options.. yes it is.. but having visited many of the local places the quality of the products is entirely different. Great quality meat is a must. The food was hot, and tasty.. and really enjoyed... the latte..was a latte... the only downside was the coriander tasting beans.. that's purely my own preference but all in all a lovely place

Waited very patiently for about 45 mins for my breakfast to arrive as cafe was clearly very busy. No staff approached to apologise for delay. When I noticed other customers being served - who arrived after me -I queried with Waitress. She consulted the kitchen who said my order overlooked and it would take another 25 mins. I identified I unable to wait. Owner subsequently said a reimbursement of £15.50 (minus the coffee I consumed) wasn’t available until he totted up till at end of day. In terms of customer service, this is wholly unacceptable and I was that upset I ultimately left without reimbursement. This cafe really needs to generate a customer waiting time in terms of staffing capacity as I also observed at least two other customers given the wrong orders. They are basically overstretching themselves at a cost to customer service.

Popped in for a cheeky chai latte whilst visiting Kings Heath. Safe to say I found a hidden gem. Impressed with the greeting from the off. A friendly smile means so much, but costs nothing. The Jammie Dodger blondie was an absolute winner, as was the drink to wash it down with. Was fortunate enough to get parking outside too. All boxes ticked and would definitely recommend

Cafe has an excellent attached bike workshop that will sort out any issues you have, you can book in by ringing up the cafe.

A wonderful little cafe nestled away in Kings Heath. I came in and was greeted by very amicable and friendly staff. I ordered the sweet potato fritters and egg. This came and was one of the most delicious dishes I've had from an establishment. The way the mint sauce paired with the fritters, which tasted like an artisan dish. It was subtle, not too strong, yet very unique. The egg was the perfect ingredient with the fritter sandwich which was held together by the buns. These buns weren't soft or soggy, instead they hard enough to keep the ingredients together, yet soft enough that I could chew it effectively. I did say to the gentlemen at the front I would write a review. We need more places like this that value passion and good customer service. 10/10

Cycle Workshop Review: If you need anything doing on your bike, this is the place to go. I went today as I had an issue with my front brake seizing. Stupidly I didn't check the opening times (closed on Wednesday) but the owner was sitting just inside. He spotted me and opened the door. Not only did he sort the brake in a matter of minutes, he gave me a free spacer for my brake pads free of charge... Imagine what they do when they're open! This isn't the first time they've helped me out either. I was knocked off my bike by an inattentive driver a couple of years ago and took the bike in expecting to be charged quite a bit for repairs. They managed to untangle my chain which was wedged between the frame and the wheel, reset my handle bars and give it a once over to check it was safe to ride. Once again, they did this for free! I have also paid for a full service which isn't the cheapest you'll find, but it's well worth the peace of mind knowing they're trustworthy and they'll do a thorough job. Always recommend to my cycling friends, and I'll continue to do so! Thanks Gorilla Café!

One of the top places to eat in Birmingham, let alone Kings Heath. The food is incredible, great menu selection and nice portion size, the coffee, cakes and vibe are also top. I am very well fed and not easy to pleased but this place get's 10/10 every time.

Lovely place, very sunny, great service. Only downside is the acoustics- very loud when it gets busy & the echo from people's voices ricochet off the walls. Otherwise obvious favourite bikers' hub! 🚲 🚵‍♂️

I really like this place! A cute little cafe with indoor and outdoor seating with a concise menu, and good value. We sat outside and the interior fills quickly, the service was lovely and prompt food. I got the veggie breakfast which was filling and delicious. I would like some veggie sausage with my breakfast but they didn't have that on the menu. Unfortunately I can't comment on the interior or atmosphere but the seating outside was fine. The coffee was okay but nothing memorable. I will be returning to eat breakfast here again.

Was recommended to come here through a friend, we had been looking for a good cafe for ages. This is by far the best cafe we have been to in a long time. The service was amazing and the food was really really good. The owner was really friendly and informative and just a generally nice place to get some food. They also do deserts too which we had. 10/10. Also very queer friendly 🏳️‍🌈

Forget your corporate chain coffee shops. Gorilla Coffee Cafe is an independent cafe with quality food and drink, a relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff. The owner, James, is a welcoming host with an attentive manner ensuring everyone in the cafe has a great experience. The children's corner keeps little ones entertained with colouring in, building blocks and a big blackboard, making it the ideal family / friends meeting place but you could just as easily sit on one of the window stools and work happily away with a delicious drink. We'll definitely be back, I just wish we lived closer.

Our experience at Gorilla Cafe fell short of expectations, unfortunately. Despite hearing positive reviews, our visit left us feeling unwelcome and uncomfortable. High expectations were met with confusion as it wasn't clear where to order or find seating initially, making our entrance feel quite conspicuous. The lack of clear guidance left us somewhat ignored, possibly due to not being regulars. The food, though good, took longer than anticipated to arrive, and the overall pricing seemed a bit steep compared to other local brunch options. While the quality was commendable, there was a sense that it could have been better, given the reputation. Parking added to the inconvenience, as the cafe's location wasn't the most accommodating in that regard. The overall experience didn't align with the positive reviews we had heard, and we left with a feeling of disappointment, especially considering the initial high expectations.

Had the most unexpectedly amazing toffee and apple cake when I last visited. V much recommend.

This is a wonderful independent cafe why wonderful? Because....It has truly excellent coffee with every barista trained to perfection so you don't have to 'worry' who's making it 😊 Excellent food menu & employs actual chefs so the standard is excellent. Very neat & clean which is so important. It attracts a civilised decent clientele so you can enjoy in peace. This is so important! The owner 'James' brings his own fun & warm personality & All his staff especiallyErica Jo & Josh are polite, jovial & caring. Gorilla cafe values its customers which makes me go back too much!🤭 Lastly the cafe has cycling club attached but this never impedes upon regular customers. All the members are decent respectful& actually add to the experience. 'Kind hearts❤,not coronets👑' make a place welcoming😊 ❤

Smaller space but the coffee and food are top tier.

Went today for breakfast. Lovely guy who I think may have been the owner chatted to us and was very friendly. Ordered gorilla breakfast and the bacon sandwich. Absolutely lovely. Great surroundings, great concept and happy to support an independent business. Would highly recommend and will be returning next time we are in Brum.

Best place to get a coffee in kings heath. Also the bike shop is really helpful. Got mine serviced there and also got it repaired after being hit by a car. They were really helpful with outlining my options and pointed out some things to consider replacing in the more distant future based on my bike's wear and tear.

After a number of years I came back to the Gorilla coffee cafe and the food was as good as I'd remembered. I came in last week with a friend and came back on my own today and I had the same gorilla breakfast which was awesome, even down to the mushroom which was very tasty. The meat loaf bacon wrap thing was fantastic, never had this before. I had a hot chocolate last week and it was better than any of the place I've been too. Staff were very friendly, attentive, polite and helpful. Thank you from my friend and myself. We will be back.

Brought 2 bikes for a quick service. It took the handyman 5 days to do it. Paid £60 cash and 2 bike repair vouchers (£50 each). The bikes were apparently ok, only needed a chain change. Feel like I've been swindled.

I like this place but one thing really annoys me. 3 poched eggs on toast for £6.50 isn't cheap but you only get one small piece of toast. Twice I've said it wasnt enough and my comment was laughed off. Another piece of toast cost me £3 ! I don't think I'm being unreasonable but paying best part of £10 for 3 eggs and toast leaves a bad taste in my mouth even though the eggs taste good

the food's so good omg, we were just looking for a basic caf for breakfast, wasn't expecting this. lots of vegan stuff, it's that sort of place, but the meatloaf was amazing. even the tomatoes were tasty af. friendly staff. proper brewed coffee and tea. nice sitting outside in the sun.

What a place, what a people. I remember when 🦍 first opened and I thought to myself 'Is Brum ready for a Cycle Cafe' the answer? An emphatic YES. The cafe is great, the people are wonderful but here's a particular shout out to the lads in the workshop (yes they have a bike workshop hidden away upstairs). I had a complicated job I needed done and it requires both skill, diligence and focus. Boy did they deliver! So so grateful. A truly great place!

This place is amazing, and I mean A-MAZ-ING. The breakfasts are out of this world, so much so, when I moved my daughter to the University, we ate there 4 out of 5 breakfasts… and that was only because they were closed one day. Honestly, I don’t care where in the city you are staying, get over to here. It’s small, but I’ve never had to wait. Seriously, we don’t visit our daughter on a Tuesday evening as they’re closed Wednesday’s it’s that good!

Had the gorilla breakfast.. Was huge plate of food! 2 slices of bacon, 2 sausages, 2 eggs, fresh tomato, baked beans in a ramikan, spinach and mushrooms. DELICIOUS 😋! Great coffee. All served with a smile, in a clean cafe, which has a (road?) racing bike fixed on the wall. There is a quotation by Eddie Mercx, painted on the wall. Rack to park your bike.... And you can sit outside. Highly recommended. January 2023...it's just as it is described above. I had the gorilla breakfast again and it was DELICIOUS 😋. May 2023. Just as good last time!

The food is really good with great services. Perfect for an afternoon tea during holidays.

The cafe accommodated us for a pint of beer and cake. We enjoyed sitting outside in the glorious sun it attracted. The service was very friendly, and we were made to feel welcome and relaxed. I must remember to come more often.

We had both veggie and meat breakfast each and a couple of coffees. All very good.

I wanted to have vegetarian scotch egg but they didn't have it. In fact the menu now is very limited. The portion is quite small. Sitting on a plastic chair and paying more than £10 for a cafe food, I don't think it's worth it.

That was my first time to go there for breakfast, but only 1 person was working in the cafe, we queued for long time, finally we left and went to another cafe for veggie breakfast.

First time we'd been here... Its been open for years and we are local.. We are now asking myself.. 'Why did we leave it so long!!!'. What a lovely place. The staff were friendly and attentive. Very clean, very busy, lovely atmosphere, all age ranges were in there and fantastic food. The coffees and food we had were soooo nice. Thank you... looking forward to returning... quite a few times....

A good coffee and cake place, especially if you like cycling. You can get your bike wheels repaired here and watch some cycle racing on the TV. They do light meals as well, like soup, and beans on toast for £3. The coffee is good and the cake v tasty. You get a generous size cappuccino. There are also breakfast and brunch options.

Great selection of food and lovely coffee. The light brunch menu is lovely. Good portions. The brioche bun with halloumi and courgettes is a personal favourite.

Went in around 1500 and was told we are closed .. couldn’t quite understand why it was open to the 6/7 cyclists who arrived at the same time…

Website says closes 4.30. Gets there at 3 to be told we're closed. Nice place but has a habit of closing too early.

Generally a lovely place but the food can be a bit hit and miss. Stick with the full english and you're in for a treat (although it's quite pricey and I do wish they didn't charge extra for toast and hash browns - they should come as standard!) Great selection of beers, good service.

Went for breakfast with friends last Friday. Great coffee with v good poached eggs and avocado. Really like it here.

£11 for 2 bacon and egg sandwiches that were vile could only eat half as tasted disgusting definitely would not recommend eating here massively over priced for below average food

These guys are amazing; Tom and the guys have been looking after my bikes for a couple of years now. I really wouldn't trust anybody else. They are honest and turn the bike around quickly.

Had brunch here today it was AMAZING. Harissa scrambled eggs on sourdough with wilted chard and feta. Also had some home made hash browns on the side. Absolutely delicious, best brunch I’ve had in years. THANK YOU!

The best coffee shop in Birmingham, bar none. Attentive service, superb coffee, and a unique selection of interesting beers. Also great bicycle servicing, which Costa certainly can't manage... Update 2022: just collected my bike after a service. It's like a brand new bike again! Tom is a wizard. Astonishing attention to detail. Highly recommended!

Over the past two months I've had two bikes serviced by the Gorilla team, headed by Tom. The first, a commuter, was prioritised as I don't drive so it is my main form of transport. It was turned around in a less than a day, despite needing a new chain, and runs smoother than it ever has - including the day I bought it. Makes such a difference! I was offered a similar turnaround on the second bike, but as it was not urgent I was happy to wait a day. Again, the bike now runs beautifully. I was particularly impressed by the level of communication over both services. The mechanics took great care to explain what theyfelt needed to be done, the reasons why, and the degree of urgency as well as the cost before any action was taken. They also gave a careful rundown on handover, with an assurance that if I had any questions, or there were any niggles that emerged after the service, I could bring it back in for a check and tweak. Very satisfied, and well worth the price for the quality of work, peace of mind, and great 'aftersales' support. On top of this you get to support the whole Gorilla Cafe project, led by James, which is really devoted to developing cycling in all its forms. So much more than a cafe, though the coffee is good - and you get a free one with your service, on top of everything else! Quality!

Although small inside, this was a lovely place to stop for brunch. They have a great selection on the menu for vegetarians (I had a halloumi and courgette sourdough) and a good range of coffee, with specials available. It is a cyclists cafe with a theme, and they even do bike repairs, though I didn’t need to take advantage of this! Good customer service as they were having problems in the kitchen our food took longer to arrive so we were given our choice of a hot drink on the house

The food is amazing and bursting with flavour. During my visit I had the Vegetarian brunch and it was amazing to have home made hash browns and garlic mushrooms that I could genuinely taste the garlic on (perhaps even all the more impressive as I had a cold at the time of my visit). My only criticism would be the coffee isn't as potent as I'd have liked, though this is more of a personal preference. Regardless, I will certainly be visiting again.

Only stopped in for a coffee and do some work while my car was in mechanic down the road Didn't have food but the coffee and friendly service itself is worth 5 stars.

Tom Wieckowski did an absolutely superb job of assembling my new bike in the workshop. He also went to a great deal of trouble to explain the various mechanical aspects of the bike and ensured that everything was appropriately adjusted to my size. All this done in a most friendly manner and at an extremely competitive price! I will certainly use the services of the workshop for all of my bike maintenance requirements in future.

Went in for KoM service. Tom and the team helpful & really efficient, even took care of the bike whilst I was away for a few extra days. Bike rides really well, a heads up on possible future maintenance & cost of existing repair before completion but importantly, just a good all round vibe. Definitely recommend for any level of cyclist looking to give their bike some TLC. Thanks guys.

Best coffee for miles around, especially cappuccinos, which can be pretty awful in most places. We moved away from Kings Heath earlier this year, but have to keep coming back every now and then to remind ourselves how good they are!

I am a keen cyclist and have enjoyed the convivial atmosphere, fantastic food, coffee and beer at the wonderful Gorilla Coffee Cafe for a few years. After having had knee surgery, I found it difficult to get comfortable on my bike, so was delighted to find Gorilla had started to offer a bike fit service. I found this was a bike fit with a difference Damien Kimber as a professional physiotherapist was able to not only look at how my bike fitted me but also how my physiology worked with my bike, the way I ride and how changes post surgery affect that and could be managed. Not only did I get a bike that felt instantly more comfortable but I also got some stretches and exercises to help me get more out of my cycling and feel better generally. This was all in all a fantastic service which I highly recommend to anyone cycling.

I completed a bike fitting on my original road bike at Gorilla Coffee Cafe with Damien who is an established Physiotherapist in Birmingham. I suffer with saddle soreness and have done for many years, with a few small adjustments my soreness has disappeared. The whole process is very professional and Damien has a wealth of knowledge in his field. Well recommended and value for money.

As a keen cyclist have been using Gorilla Cafe since the first day I moved to Kings Heath. After moving to Birmingham for my work in the West Midlands, I didn't know many people, but the coffee, beer, service and food are all brilliant, from the moment you turn up you are treated like family... its magic, and Tom in the workshop is probably the most thorough, friendly and helpful bike mechanic I have used. Recently I had a bike fit done as I wasn't happy with the fitting I had recently had elsewhere. Damo takes a totally different approach to bike fitting, but its one that worked really well for me, starting with a physiotherapy approach which highlighted all the potential issues to correct rather than just sitting me on the bike and measuring up, its been brilliant and I am more comfortable and faster on the bike. Can't recommend this place more highly.
