Friday nights... Snobby rude staff. No need really.

This used to be a great bar with amazing burgers. They now do a poor version of tapas style dishes. We should have realised when one of the dishes was unavailable but they had it on skewers instead that it was pre prepared and reheated on site. The duck croquette had no duck evident. The chicken and chorizo skewers were chewy and over powered by chorizo. The calamari was inedible, possibly worst I’ve ever had. Annoyingly, I asked to add a 10%, £4.50 tip as despite the food, service was ok. I realised later that this had been rounded up to just over £5, I assume as maths was easier. Disgraceful! Shame, as this place used to be so good!

Don't bother. Service is poor. Food has taken an hour and still not arrived. They don't even have all the items listed in their menu. Staff seem rushed and have a passive aggressive type attitude.

Stopped for a light lunch on Surbiton Festival Day. It was a disappointment. Firstly, the waitress had the hump about something and appeared to be taking it out on the customers. In a very 'I don't care' attitude reeled off a list of tapas items that weren't available. The remaining selection was poor. We later asked for some water, which never arrived. All I can say about the food is, they do a very poor version of tapas style dishes. Plus we were not convinced the sausages were cooked fully. Disappointing. I can't see us returning, certainly not for food. Maybe a drink.

Stopped by for Sunday brunch and sat outside at one of the tables on the pavement. Service and food was great. Would visit again.

Went for breakfast. Sat outside. Lovely young waitress took our order.she came back after a little while to apologise for delay as kitchen busy. Manager came out and served, apologised again and offered free drink as recompense. The breakfast was nicely presented and freshly cooked. Would go again

The tapas wasn't very good and I asked for the king prawn dish to be taken off the bill as they certainly weren't king prawns!! Patatas bravas weren't very good either.

Great place for breakfast. Classic breakfast dishes made well and great service at a fair price. The staff are very attentive especially when it comes to refilling the bottomless filter coffee! Highly recommended.

Had the vegan burger which was delicious. The service is excellent highly recommended.

Ganesh was very very rude, will not be returning

The worst place I ever visited, food quality and services are worst. The Manager is very rude and mean Ganesh.

My trial shift at this place was a disaster. The owner provided minimal guidance, and after just half an hour, they rudely dismissed me for not being overly enthusiastic. I tried explaining my concern for customer privacy, but it fell on deaf ears. With my experience in high-profile catering, I was appalled by the owner's unprofessionalism and complete lack of respect. I strongly advise against this place as long as Ganesh is employed here.

Lovely pub with delicious, simple food and bottomless coffee. A real sense of community. I drop by on Saturday mornings here and then, when my son rehearses. And occasionally, I bring my son over for a full English breakfast after his lesson

Great atmosphere with highlight of the evening being the delicious food delivered to our table by a smiling waitress. We chose crab, skinny chips, sweet, potatoes, chicken skewers, prawns & patatas bravos. Have heard about this place on Maple Road & it lived up to all expectations. Will be taking our son & daughter next time.

We visited recently and liked the atmosphere, so we booked a table last weekend. We requested a table by the fire. On arrival, much to our surprise, the place was empty and cold as there was no fire lighting. A young lady said she’d light the fire for us but half an hour later there was still no fire and no one came to take our order. It was capped off by another couple, who sat beside us, coming in and ordering within 5 minutes of arriving. That just capped it off. Why bother returning??!!

One of our favourites on Maple Road. Wholesome food, very pleasant staff and beautiful decor. We come regularly for breakfast, especially during the Farmer's market days!

Can't really fault this place. Popped in for a catch up with friends. The food was tasty and a nice varied tapas menu. The service was top notch, and great drinks menu and value for money. Will definitely return and would recommend. Thank you!

Food and bar staff always first class

We had a lovely experience a week before, we ordered the tempranillo and thoroughly enjoyed the wine. Came back a week later with guests and ordered the same wine. Our waitress didn't ask if we would like to taste it and poured 4 glasses. After drinking about 3 sips I realized this was not the wine we ordered. So went and spoke to the manager who, admitted that they had run out of the wine we ordered and had substituted another without advising us. Apparently, they serve whatever is delivered, not what is on the wine list! I complained and sent the wine back and ordered an alternative bottle. They refused to take it off the bill despite serving us a wine we didn't order nor drink! That is completely without exception the worst customer experience I have had in a wine bar. Used to be the place to go to entertain friends for a great night out experience. Shame the staff's lack of customer care ensured I won't be back.

First time and yet lived locally for many years. Absolutely unbeatable service - so attentive and coming to the tables which I believe if it were my business too, is now the way forward. We were never without a drink and the whole evening was fantastic. A pub but of more a bar type feel and food and service. Recommended.

First time visit and was pleasantly surprised. Hubby ordered steak tapas and I ordered vegan prawns. Pleasant atmosphere enjoyed listening to Italian music.

Visited Sunday morning for a full English breakfast and cup of tea. Great food and great service, we'll be back!

We used to be relative regulars here but we wandered away. Dropped back in this evening and it was excellent. A lovely bottle of red and some great tapas (the harissa spiced patata bravas were really really good) and the staff were very friendly. Where have we been all these years?!

Amazing cooked breakfast. Great quality ingredients make this the best breakfast place around. Great coffee too. Also unlike most of the local restaurants they actually take ventilation seriously so it feels covid safe even when busy

Staff very nice and professional, only 3 stars as the food menu is tapas, hadn't been there for around 5 years, but the food used to be proper pub food high quality, the tapas wasn't great either.

Nice busy atmosphere, food and service was good. The toilet entrance is an accident waiting to happen, as soon as you open the the door you step down, the door needs urgently hanging from the inside so when you open it you can see the step, as it is now you push it open and as you are stepping forward you immediately fall drown the step. When you are coming back out because it’s a step up it doesn’t present the same safety issue. There is a sign on the door, but it’s very easy to not to take it on board, especially if you are drinking.

Disappointed with the three burger sliders (tiny!!) But the rest of the food was amazing

Popped in for New Year's Eve for tapas and drinks. Food was amazing and the Negronis were fantastic. Also had brunch the next day - farmer's market brunch was very tasty. Staff are very friendly and attentive. Would recommend 🙂.

We’ve eaten here twice in the last year: outside during the Eat out to help out scheme last summer and last night inside. On both occasions we very much enjoyed the tasty, well-proportioned tapas and the service was friendly and efficient. We’ll definitely return.

Always loved G Bennett now love it more because they are on the ball regarding Covid. Fab staff remind you to tap in, use the sanitisers and where your mask. Nothing heavy handed just great service. The food is also excellent with lots of choice.

Lovely atmosphere and great service. We we fed us with the Queue at The French Tart nearby and gave Gordon Bennett’s a chance. We ordered 2 English Breakfasts, toast with preserves and smashed avocado with salmon and poached eggs on sourdough. The food arrived with in 15 minutes and as I was ravenous my breakfast didn’t last long. Our waiter, Ben, noticed I had finished and gave us a toast basket on the house along with extra butter. Our water was never empty and we were in and out within half an hour. Calm atmosphere, brilliant service and outstanding quality. 10/10 would recommend.

This was our second post lockdown visit to sample the new autumn tapas menu (there were 2 “big plates” available as well). We arrived earlier than last time because of the new closing time. First the admin - we were asked to scan the QR code, there were 2 which was a touch confusing. They have their own code and the Track and Trace code. We scanned both just in case. We wore masks while moving around. The tables are well spaced and the staff were both wearing visors. Hand sanitiser was available. Onto more pleasant matters, we received a great welcome and were seated quickly, orders for drinks were taken immediately. The menu is varied, plenty of vegetarian, fish and meat options. We had a selection, all of which was delicious. The staff were friendly and the service was attentive but not intrusive. I would recommend visit if you are looking for a good meal out in a relaxed atmosphere.

Visitamos durante el fin de semana del 26/27 de septiembre, el sábado por la noche para tomar una copa mientras esperábamos nuestro taxi y luego nuevamente a la mañana siguiente para un delicioso desayuno. El personal fue muy amable y están manejando muy bien las mayores restricciones de Covid. El desayuno era fantástico y el Bloody Mary y Mimosa que lo acompañaban deliciosos. Dejamos una bolsa por error durante la noche y la mantuvieron a salvo para nosotros: el personal que trabajó ese fin de semana fue brillante y un crédito para Gordon Bennett.

Mi novio y yo cenamos aquí anoche y fue una de las mejores comidas que he probado. El menú era diferente, ¡sin las aburridas opciones habituales allí! También son tapas, así que puedes compartir muchos deliciosos aperitivos y cócteles. El personal del bar era encantador, nos puso en una mesa preciosa fuera y fue muy servicial y amable. Altamente recomendado. Gran entorno y ocupado! Lo que siempre es una buena señal. Delicioso. Volveremos.

Had a nice breakfast with family

Hemos comido el desayuno aquí durante muchos años, pero ha ido cuesta abajo un poco, los artículos en el menú constantemente se perdieron del plato por el chef un domingo. Solucionado siempre por el personal de servicio, pero ¿cómo puedes equivocarte siempre? El tamaño de la porción también disminuyó en el aguacate, el salmón y los huevos: excelente salmón, pero una pequeña cantidad de tostadas y parece que había escasez de aguacate.Realmente esperamos que mejoren nuevamente, ya que es un gran lugar con un personal amable, pero la comida los decepciona en este momento.

Love the dark interior, the open fire and the bar - old style and comfy. Had the halloumi burger and tasted great. Although noticed that there was 1 very very small strip of halloumi in it. Basically it was a brioche bun of salad. Quite nice, but disappointing. I assume the just run out and usually aren't that stingy.

Lo pasé muy bien en la última noche de Gordon Bennett. Amigo número 50 El ambiente y la comida eran geniales. El personal era educado, profesional y bien presentado. El servicio fue insuperable. Bien vale la pena el viaje de 2 horas e incluso tocaron una excelente selección de melodías para permitirnos sacudir una pierna. ¡Algunos de los otros comensales se unieron para mostrarnos cómo se hace! !

Good local brunch bar with excellent service and an appealing menu. The interior feels rather dated and dark inside and not to my taste, but that's a minor quibble.

Como restaurante, mi familia a menudo nos visita para el desayuno, esperábamos la calidad decente que generalmente proporciona, pero desafortunadamente hoy no nos reunimos con tales estándares. Cada lugar puede tener un mal día, pero la forma en que se trató fue inapropiada. Nos sirvieron jugo de naranja que se había echado a perder, nos dieron una taza de té (pero nos cobraron una olla), nos dieron información incorrecta sobre la comida y nos sirvieron comida fría. Went here for Sunday brunch. It was quiet and service was good. Staff were friendly. Quantity of food was good. Coffee was excellent. I wasn't going to go as the reviews on here were bad but these reviews couldn't have been more incorrect.

Nos enviaron desde el restaurante asociado, Surbiton flyer, de buena fe para que podamos tener un buen almuerzo de domingo. A su llegada, descubrimos precios altos, comida de mala calidad, demasiado dura para comer carne de res, verduras sin sabor. Muy decepcionado. Especialmente cuando hablamos con el personal y nos dijeron "se lo diremos al chef".No recomiendo este restaurante a todos.

Refused service with family at 4pm on Saturday for wearing vest. Went next door and there was no problem. Basically a venue that embraces discrimination...

Popped in on Sunday afternoon for a meal, pleasant welcome and enjoyed a well prepared burger with chips, excellent food, couldn't fault it, I will visit again!

Partner and I were delighted with our evening meals, both opting for steak. Following a domestic we've agreed to give 5 stars, we feel the the dish as a whole was lacking something, such as with a salad or some greens.

Had been a while since we went to Gordon Bennetts but stopped off for dinner one evening with some friends. What used to be a great place to grab and drink or something to eat is a shadow of what it was, very little atmosphere with a few people at the bar. But worst of all the food was a massive let down. The burgers were dry and crumbly and did not taste like they had that much meat, everything seemed a bit overdone and greasy, considering the kitchen wasn't that busy wouldn't of through the food would be overdone. Do not think will be going back anytime soon.

Really enjoyed a lunch here, four of us and baby in a buggy. Unobtrusive background music, great menu and very good service. The meals are big, two of us shared a meal and were very satisfied. Everything we had was freshly and perfectly cooked, as requested. Excellent range of drinks. Great venue for a late Saturday lunch.

It was a quiet night when we went for a drink.We were served seasoned peanuts as we drank and chatted which was a super touch. The meals passing us 'when brought to the tables seemed like great portions and everyone around us seemed to be enjoying their meals . We were bookd somewhere else to eat that night so did not geta chance to any .I believe there is a quiz night also that is popular

Used to be good a couple of years ago but does not have the following now and older clients with not much atmosphere.

Had one drink here and left. Such a shame as I wish the Gordon Bennet was a competitor for the Antelope just down the road which gets the mix of atmosphere, bar staff and beer just right. This place needs a rethink.

Family-friendly, go-to breakfast spot when meeting friends (and their kiddies) in Surbiton. You can't go wrong with any of the menu. Quick, friendly service and clean toilets.

We arrived here pretty late for breakfast as they were just about to start on the lunch menu. Luckily for us they very Kindly said if we were quick he would have a quick word with the chef so we could have a breakfast, which was very much appreciated. All in all a very good full English, with very good quality sausages and I had smoked salmon with avocado. I even knocked over my drink and before you knew it they had bought me over another. A great place for breakfast....ohh and dinner too as we have often been to meet friends here for drinks and dinner.

Visited here for the first time for a few drinks on Saturday night, definitely the more mature crowd. Good atmosphere, nice wine and friendly service.

Un lugar básico lo suficientemente agradable, pero podría ser mucho más, como destacan otras reseñas. Aunque las hamburguesas eran buenas, el pollo "supremo" con frijoles, lentejas y tomates "estofados" no era ninguno de los dos. Estoy bastante seguro de que era una lata sin condimentar de frijoles mixtos, con un poco de pollo. Difícil conseguir algo así de mal, pero de alguna manera lo lograron. El personal del bar puede hacer o deshacer un lugar como este, realmente ambientando el ambiente. Me temo que los muchachos de servicio anoche no agregaron mucho. Quiero decir, ¿me dolería una sonrisa? ! Me dio la sensación de que realmente no querían estar allí, ¡lo que tampoco nos hace querer a los apostadores! Pero aún así, conservo un gusto por el lugar, tal vez debido a los recuerdos de varias noches divertidas y una primera cita significativa allí, pero dada la competencia local, se está convirtiendo en un lugar menos frecuente y necesita un poco de inversión y mejora de gestión.

Everyone in restaurant is eating breakfast. Owner: "Sorry, the kitchen is closed, did nobody warn you?", Me rather pollitely: "Oh, why?", Owner: "Because I decided to, that's all you need to know. Later!", then turns his back - this has never been the best place to be honest, but I don't think you'll be seeing me again after such rudeness. Thanks.

Pleasant enough with a nice G&T menu but they gotta do something about the bar flies especially with food being served - it certainly put us off eating there.

Waited 50 minutes for our food (just a chicken burger and burrito). Really bland food. And the chips were gritty. Won't return.

Never been to the Gordon Bennett before but popped in for a quick drink after dinner out with friends..so glad I did . They have an interesting wine list with plenty of choice, I looked at the menu and will definitely return to sample the food at a future date . Found the staff friendly and attentive - particular mention of Kathleen.
