Gordan's Trattoria in Edinburgh, City of

We found this restaurant on Google when we were visiting Edinburgh for an overnight stay before flying to Barcelona the next day. The service was fantastic and the food was delicious, we can highly recommend a visit for some great tasty food and very good service!

Went with the specials menu and ordered the Paccheri pasta dish. Delicious plate of food washed down with a jug of tap water and a Margarita and Mojito. Lovely ambiance and service. I would highly recommend.

Restaurant was recommended to me by a friend and I was so glad I went. Not only was the food fantastic and authentic the ambiance was very friendly and welcoming. Our waitress, Maria, was bubbly, informative and chatty without being intrusive. We only had two evenings in Edinburgh, I’m so glad we spent one here.

The food at Gordon’s was very good. Authentic lasagna and mista salad. The soup and garlic bread were classic Italian. The rest of the experience was disappointing. We arrived and were told it was a “cash only” night. With only £60 with me, we pushed forward as we had a late lunch and did not need to eat too much. The service was impersonal and rushed. The 12.5% service charge was the highest of any establishment we found in our 14 day Scotland trip. When I laid out my £60 to pay for our £57.55 bill, we were asked if we wanted any change back. That felt quite amateurish but it was consistent with the rest of our experience. If you are looking for a good Italian meal and don’t care about the service, give it a try. Otherwise, spend your money elsewhere.

Great place and the staff was wonderful. I've tasted Spaghetti Carbonara all over the world and this is the best Carbonara I've ever tasted. Will definitely go back to Cordons when I visit Edinburgh again.

This restaurant is the best place ever! The service are incredible and the staff are as well the most sociable staff I’ve ever met.

A absolute must visit. The caprese salad was so fresh. The lasagna was excellent and filling. But definitely save room for dessert - the gelato did not disappoint. The food was matched with amazing service.

My husband and I were born and raised in NY, so we like to think we know good Italian food. And Gordon’s knows how to do good Italian food! This restaurant was a welcome change from pub food. The portions are generous, and the food so good we all cleaned our plates! And went back the next night! End with limoncello! Great food and service. You will not be disappointed!

Was sightseeing and decided to eat here. They were really friendly and seated me soon. They even suggested half portion for an order when I said I was not that hungry.

We enjoyed a relaxed dinner in a very traditional trattoria. Gordon’s opened in 1982 and its success and longevity is clearly built on fresh, quality ingredients and quirky but engaging service.

Been here for my partners 75th birthday. Food was second to none, service was excellent! Had to help my partner finish his pizza as it was rather big. Would return here again the next time we visit Edinburgh.

We only chose Italian in Scotland because friends of ours who visited here the previous month highly recommended it, but they were right! The food was delicious and the service was friendly. Loved the gnocchi with bleu cheese, yum! Great location too, just a short walk from our Hilton Hotel. We didn't have reservations, so we ended up going to a pub and getting a beer and coming back when a table was free, worth the wait!

Grabbed a wonderful bowl of broccoli and mushroom soup with my wife before we went on our castle tour. It was busy but our waiter was friendly and relatively fast. Soup was very good. There are so many other restaurants in the area that I probably would not go back but not because of the experience.

My wife & I had waited two years to come back to this restaurant. She made sure we had a couple of extra nights in the city so we savor this experience again. Gary and his staff did not disappoint. From Starters to Entrees to Dessert, all were perfect. The drinks weretasty as well! The most rewarding part is the personal attention given to their guests. All are made to feel welcome. Love it!

You can’t walk past Gordon’s Trattoria. It’s hard to define what makes it the favourite resting place on the Royal Mile. The staff certainly move efficiently, are welcoming but assured in turning over tables. The buzz that comes from so many happy customers and tables bountiful with gorgeous food and clinking with all sorts of things to drink is just magic. Highly recommended.

Everything you read isn’t true. Never judge a book by its cover. I sat here on Wednesday lunch time with glorious sunshine and a wonderful love heart pizza that the chef took time to make me. They were busy it was hot but it didn’t stop them working hard. I couldn’t believe when I saw “average at best “ review! I sat 2 along from him and it’s such a lie. The girl serving was shocked when he shouted at her, as were we! She charged him through contactless after placing the bill down and went to get the machine. He didn’t say a word when she picked up

We needed to sit down and eat and saw this place, a quick scan of the menu and we ordered two Perone beers and a Pizza Della Casa.

Pasamos por este restaurante, echamos un vistazo al menú e hicimos una comprobación rápida en Trip Advisor antes de dirigirse a (muchos comentarios geniales). La comida que se servía a otro par de comensales olía muy bien, así que estábamos ansiosos por la comida. Los dos elegimos platos de pasta que incluyen salchicha italiana picante, esperando trozos carnosos de esa deliciosa salchicha hecha con carne de cerdo, hinojo y vino tinto. Cuando llegó la comida, nos quedamos consternados al descubrir la pasta cubierta con rebanadas de pepperoni (podría haber sido salami) de una calidad que esperaría en una pizza congelada barata. El penne speziale de mi compañero parecía una lata de estofado barato sobre la pasta y cubierto con el pepperoni, y aparentemente sabía un poco a los raviolis de Heinz (no hay nada de malo en los raviolis de Heinz cuando eso es lo que le apetece, pero esto cuesta más que 14). Los camareros eran bastante agradables, pero no reconozco el alegre ambiente descrito en otras reseñas. El lugar necesita un poco de renovación pero eso nunca me molesta si la comida es buena. 32 para dos tazones de pasta de mala calidad (ni siquiera porciones particularmente generosas) y dos refrescos es indignante, incluso para la Royal Mile. Visited this restaurant on Saturday evening after previously being here 13 months ago with my partner. The first visit was made by the gent in charge that evening maybe the owner. On arrival this time we got shown to a table and felt a little out of the way at first at the rear of the restaurant, after a little bit of a wait the drinks order was taken by one of the waitresses and drinks arrived promptly. And then the evening took a turn for the better, the guy in charge (samuel) entered the stage, great advice on the food and fantastic banter with the 4 of us, absolutely made our night, the food as last year was fantastic, fresh and generous portions. Situated on the Royal Mile. Gordon is a real character, very welcoming and entertaining. The restaurant itself needs a refurbishment. The food wasn’t as good as I’d hoped (didn’t seem authentically Italian), but it was ok. The portions are huge, which I find off putting.

Highly recommend Gordon's. We ended up here TWICE in 3 days. Great atmosphere, food and staff. I am not sure we will find anything like it at home.

Food was delicious and the atmosphere was cosy and spacious, front of house was berry friendly and had a good sense of humour. The Risotto was knock out and the penne special was tasty too

I and friends were looking for a Dessert place and relax. Found Gordon's Trattoria and don't regret going there. Had an amazing dessert and tea. Staff members were very respectful, welcoming and prices were avarage. (PS: One of the staff members looked very alike from the the German rock band by the name of Rammstein. A Rammstein fan will understand this and once they visit Gordon's Trattoria.)

Nous nous y sommes rendus deux soirs en famille au cours des vacances, les lasagnes et pâtes sont délicieuses et l'équipe est très sympathique. Ambiance détendue et personnel super ! Seul petit reproche, à notre goût la musique est un peu trop forte mais quand nous l'avons fait remarquer, on a su nous écouter et la baisser un peu. Super adresse, avec un bon rapport qualité prix.

The food was unbelievable! The best Italian food I've had ever! Super tasty pasta and pizza. Penne Speciale, Ravioli with sage and Pizza Paesce.

Cannot fault this place. From the tasty food, entertainment by the staff, service from Emmanuel and all over ambience. there was a party of ten of us. One main meal was delayed and compensation given without being asked for. 11/10, at least.

Accueil sympa et patron extraverti qui met tout de suite à l'aise. Les prix à la carte sont déjà élevés par rapport aux standards locaux mais bon. La nourriture est cuisinée sous vos yeux. C'est frais et bon sans toutefois casser 3 pattes à un canard. Mais attention aux extras proposés par le patron l'air de rien car là les prix deviennent délirants. Plus de 5£ pour une boule de glace, près de 9 £ pour un Whisky et 7£ pour un verre de vin de table qui aurait probablement plus sa place en cuisine par ailleurs. Résultat, une note qui monte rapidement à des sommets astronomique au point de se demander si ce n'est pas celle de la table d'à côté, avec deux fois plus de convives...

I was recommended to visit. I wasn't disappointed. The pasta special was different, and most enjoyable, as was the tiramisu. Good value to as its on the Royal Mile close to the Castle.

After reading all the excellent reviews we chose Gordon's Trattoria expecting some great things. Sadly the food was at best average and extremely expensive. Portion size was huge, a bit off putting to be honest. Presentation was not good! I had squid to start which was good. Hubby had pate which he said was ok. Mains, I had chicken milanese which was dry and I left most of it. I did tell the waiter but all he said was "noted"! Hubby had prawns which he said were good but were overshadowed by enough rice heaped onto the plate to feed a family! Two starters, two mains and two glasses of wine each and the bill was £112!! Went to another italian the following evening had similar food which was far tastier and far better presented and a bottle of wine for £59.95. You pays your money you takes your choice!

Upon the recommendations from a few friends across the globe we happily went to Gordon’s for dinner. Every part of this experience was amazing! From the very moment we stepped foot in the door until we walked out I couldn’t have asked for a better atmosphere, food, and service. Gary and team customized every plate set in front of us. He was incredibly attentive, fun, and made it an absolutely fantastic meal.

This place has a stripped down diner sort of feel - or it does at the front booths, which face the kitchen - but the service and the food is a very high standard.

What a fantastic family run restaurant in the heart of the Royal Mike in Edinburgh. From the warm welcoming smile of Gary to the happy smiling faces of the front of house team of Samuel, Joseph and Paolina, this food experience was a joy, the preparation and production of each course was expertly prepared by the chef and kitchen staff in full view of the customers and the flavours were sublime. Cannot fault any of the meals but need to sort out plumbing in the basement toilets. Highly recommend this small but delightful restaurant do not miss it if in Edinburgh at any time you won’t be disappointed.

Back with my sisters, brother husbands and wives and took them all to Gordon’s as I had been last year. Fab welcome, food was excellent, everyone thought the food was superb and good value. Definitely recommend, great Italian atmosphere.

Had a great dinner here tonight with our fabulous server Samuel. Food was great - we shared a caprese; I had the lasagna and my partner had the chicken marsala. We shared (reluctantly on my part) the sticky toffee pudding which was SO very good. Great atmosphere - highly recommended!

Gary and his son made us laugh and the service was personal and dedicated. We both had dishes that weren’t on the menu and were cooked to our taste! We had dropped in earlier for a quick hot chocolate because the weather was awful, we went back just because the staff were so entertaining. A great decision, any place that’s on the royal mike will cost more, that’s just how it is, I’ve paid more for worse food, it’s worth it, just go!

Came in here to escape the torrential rain to be greeted by Gary and his son who are just the funniest double act! Had a lovely hot chocolate as we weren't quite ready to eat yet but Gary was happy to throw some recommendations at us for later. We came back to eat for a birthday meal as the menu looked great. Gary was amazing and I told him what I liked and he came up with a dish for me which was great. Good selection of gin here too, the Malfy gin was great and thanks to Gary's son (didn't catch his name) who suggested mixing it with San pellegrino...it was amazing! Food was so good and cooked exactly how we requested it. Portions were big too and we ended up taking some home in a goody bag. Would highly recommend and I'm sure we will return when we come to Edinburgh again!

After attending the Scotland rugby game against Ireland in Edinburgh,we were desperate to find somewhere to have an evening meal.Strolling back into the town center,we had no luck with finding a restaurant which could accommodate all six of us ,until we came across Gordon’s trattoria ,not far from the city chambers on the Royal mile.

A multi-generational staple of dining for the last few decades Gordon's is a fixture on High Street. Excellent food, great starters and a typical Italian restaurant atmosphere complete with regulars lends itself to a great experience. Things can get a little noisy and raucous late in the evening, but its all in good fun and typically Italian.

Five of us came across this lovely restaurant and even though it was busy and we had no reservation we were lucky enough to get a table on a Friday night!! Food came quick and was gorgeous.

It was a cold January afternoon when we found Gordon’s, our welcome into the restaurant was warm and friendly, really genuine. The food was amazing a hug on a plate.

I wrote a review for here last year, but I just had to write again. It's a tradition for us to eat here every New Year, and we will not stop. The food is simple(in a nice way)and very very tasty. Our waiter Baham! He could not do enough for us to enjoy our visit. Even after we placed our order, I noticed a dish on the special board. "Ah nah! I said, wish I say that earlier" Baham heard me, even then he offered to change my order. I thanked him for the offer, but I said it was alright. Thanks to all the staff. :)

Went to this place with group of friends, food was excellent, drink was brilliant and staff and service had been the best you can get. Great place and never feel rushed. Food is very tasty and big menu selection.

Chose this restaurant for dinner on 30th December, we didn’t book but had a warm welcome & great Italian food. This is a family owned business, Gary & the team really enjoy what they do & take customer care & having fun very seriously, big emphasis on the fun part! It’s relaxed, reasonably priced & great food served with a smile. Don’t miss out & add it to your ‘must try’ list next time your in Edinburgh.

Had a very nice dinner at Gordon’s Trattoria, staff are very friendly and make you feel very relaxed. I had the steak with potatoes and pepper sauce, it was very tender and quick service. Can definitely recommend it.

We just happened to notice this place, we were hungry and it wasn’t busy. We timed it perfectly because by the time we left it was buzzing. Gorgeous prawn cocktails followed by scrumptious pizza Diavolia and Gnocchi with blue cheese and spinach. Very pleasant Rose and lovely service. Highly recommended. Just sorry we won’t have time to visit again this trip.

We were so glad we were able to dine at Gordon's Trattoria during our trip to Edinburgh. The staff were so welcoming, friendly and so happy - it was during the run-up to Christmas, so songs were playing and the staff were singing along to them. The food was amazing - we ordered a pizza, pasta and the lasagne and we were all very happy customers. We also shared a pudding and it was delicious! Couldn't have been happier and they were in no rush to give us the bill.

This is by far the best restaurant in Edinburgh..we were not sure what we felt like for dinner so Kelly gave us some options of what went well together with flavours and it was perfect..great service and staff were very friendly and the music in the background made for the perfect night. The Lasagna was amazing, as was the fantastic service - at a busy time of year for them. Went back for a third night in a row (pretty good considering all the other options close by) only to find they were closed and having their staff party/drinks. Gordon was outside and, even though we were just customers he invited us in and gave us each a Prosecco and we had a chin wag with him and his son Jason. How can we not love this place!

All 5 of us opted for a pasta/gnocchi dish and all of us were very impressed with our choices. We watched other meals come out and had food envy as well - it all looked amazing.

Food was okey, but i and my friend ordered only pizza and beverages, when we refused to order more food or something to drink they just brought us a bill.

My family and I were in Edinburgh for the day and found this restaurant located in the heart of the Royal Mile. We lucked out with the timing and were seated before it got really busy. It’s a small space, but they have an open kitchen and lots of staff. We had drinks and their soup of the day which was Leek and Potato. It was delicious. We ordered Calimari, Lasagne and Pizza, and everything was very flavourful and perfectly cooked. The price was very reasonable and the gratuity was added in which was a little surpassing as we were just four people, but I’m glad we noticed it before we left an additional tip. We would definitely go back to eat there. Not as fancy as Zizzi’s, but the food was excellent, and that’s the main thing!

My mom and I are in Edinburgh for Hogmanay and wanted to find somewhere to eat after the torchlight parade this evening. Gordon’s had an open table and we decided to eat there. It was such a welcoming environment and very friendly staff! The pizza was fantastic and we thoroughly enjoyed our dinner! Would definitely go there again!

Myself and my wife visited Edinburgh this weekend gone for my birthday weekend. We came across Gordons and thought we would chance trying to get a table, as we had no reservation.

Really overpriced for what it was. As far as Italian food goes it didn't blow our socks off. We go to Edinburgh every December, this is one we'll give a swerve as we really weren't impressed with. We were even shoehorned into our seats and considering we had pre-book it wasn't very good. Overall, not impressed.

I was on my holiday in Edinburgh and felt myself coming down with a cold. Staff went above and beyond in helping me out with incorporating a family flu recipe into a dish and gave me a gorgeous mint and lemon tea. Food was delicious and I felt wonderfully taken care of. I woke up the next day free of fever and any cold symptoms. I appreciate their efforts and kindness so much. Thank you!

Popped in here mid evening, got the last table and ordered 2 pasta dishes, both lovely!

We visited recently thinking we would have a nice Italian meal. We ordered a Focaccia starter to share, we got a pizza base with rosemary scattered on it, that is not Focaccia!! They charged £7.95 for it!!! Rip off !!! We ordered 2 pasta mains, both ok not nothing more than cafe standard,, at £14 each we definitely expected more!!! To cap it all to then charge 10% service charge is just a joke!!!

We visited Gordons on Friday evening we booked a table several weeks in advance as it has good reviews.we booked for 8 people when we arrived to find we were squashed in around 3 small tables we had a long wait before they took are order 1 hour the calamari starter was mostly all batter & exspensive the rest of the starters were poorly presented.Are mains didn't get better pizza arrived burnt the second attempt was under cooked. When the bill arrived we had a service charge very exspensive for poor to very average food at best.

We visited this restaurant on our trip to Edinburgh and so glad we found it. The staff were very pleasant and friendly. I had one of the carbonaras ever. My friends also enjoyed their meals. We will be back.

I used to spend hours and hours in Gordon's about 35 years ago when I worked for Rock Steady Security. They were one of the few restaurants in Edinburgh which was open long into the wee small hours. At that time, the food was good, simple Italian fayre at reasonable prices.. a great deal all round.

Once again Gordon and his staff did amazing. Best Italian Restaurant in Edinburgh nothing is a problem food is outstanding as is the service. Great value for money. Thanks again everyone can't wait to come back

We stopped off here almost by accident as it was pouring with rain and we popped under the awning just to check the menu. We were really glad we did though, as the gent inside was arguably the friendliest chap we'd ever met, he couldn't do enough to make us feel welcome.

There are many restaurants on the Royal Mile, but I would have to recommend Gordon's Trattoria! Its a nice Italian restaurant with a very welcoming service and good food! Highly Recommended.

I had dinner with friends at Gordon's Trattoria and could not have been more impressed! The food was incredible, and the service was next level. All of the employees were extremely personable and friendly. The appetizer, main course , drinks, and dessert were absolutely delicious. I couldn't recommend this restaurant more!

A very welcoming little Italian restaurant. We were seated and had our menus within minutes of stepping over the threshold. I had the ravioli with spinach and ricotta, with a tomato sauce. A generous portion which was freshly made and very tasty. My friend had the gnocchi with spinach and that too was delicious. Both the house red and white were good choices of wine to compliment our pasta dishes. We followed this with an espresso and the best ever sticky toffee pudding and ice cream. My only criticism was how the 10% service charge was automatically added to your bill. It is voluntary but you’d look mean to refuse.

This little gem on the royal mile has seriously good service from the front of house to the chef working in full view. Very friendly team and the food was some of the best Italian we’ve had. The gnocchi, the lasagne, and the pizza are highly recommended as was the fudge cake which we had to share 3 ways as the portions were very generous. Highly recommend.
