Gopals Of Soho in City of London, Westminster

A long standing Indian restaurant we were delighted it surveyed the pandemic - I had my first meal here 30 years ago. The restaurant has been completely refurbished and the menu expanded with a good choice for everyone including vegetarian. It felt like the restaurant has changed hands recently as none of the old team were in evidence though we were looked after by the young staff. We had a selection of mains and sides (think chicken tikka, chana masala, roti, rice and nan) and everything we ate was enjoyable and freshly cooked. Including a beer each the bill came to a reasonable £120 for 3. If you like Indian food and find yourself in Soho this place is worth a visit (in a side street off Dean St).

We here for dinner we order Onion bhaji .somosa . Chicken tikka Masala.tandoori chicken rice & bread all are tasty batter than Delhi Brasseri . Here service & food very good .we are very happy about service .Delhi brasseri service is very poor if compared service .we will come back soon

This is our go to restaurant whenever we visit London now. It is so welcoming and comfortable with great food and service. Upon arrival we were ushered to our table which was close to the bar, but an excellent little corner to enjoy the evening in. We booked the table for 4 about a week earlier so as not to be disappointed if we just turned up and there was no tables left for us. The menu is good, not vast as it does not need to be, but it has all of the old favourites listed with a few chefs specialities added also. Just right. Drinks service was prompt and polite. We chose 3 x bhuna prawn on puree starters which were absolutely delicious. They were a bit different to a standard one, as the chef had added a very delicate spice to increase the flavour which was bursting with oomph. Our other chosen starter was an onion bhagee which I am told was " just beautiful ". Our mains consisted of a chicken madras which was a different play on the bog standard one. It was so tasty and well executed by the chef. Two of us had a dip with our naan bread into the one bowl and agreed with my wife who had ordered this that it was lovely. Two of our dishes were chicken manchoozi which was a more spicy dish and again I can only say they were just perfect in their flavour. The taste was just so right and left a slight spiciness in your mouth for a little while after eating. Beautiful dishes the both of us agreed that opted for this. The last choice was a chicken tikka masalla which again I was told was just right, very tasty and fresh with again a slightly different take on this old favourite. Rices and breads all great also. The waiting on team were great. If you have a bit banter they will react to this, if you do not have much craic I think they stay just a bit staid as we noticed on adjacent tables. As I say ours was great, he looked after us very well and a bill of £185 for 4 with marvellous food and service in the west end of London with 8 drinks and a 3 course meal was excellent value. We will be back.

Food and customer service is great....

Tried their Chicken Manchoozi and prawns in poori. Excellent preparations, quite different from the usual chicken and prawns preparations. Quick and efficient service.

Recently ate in this lovely restaurant as a group of 6 after a long day of work. I can honestly say, having eaten in many Indian restaurants across the UK and London that this is up there with the best. All 6 of us agreed that it was really nice food. I order a chicken Jalfrezi as a way to compare and this was up there with the best. Beautifully balanced heat and flavour. Highly recommended.

We had a decent Indian dinner here, quite a good variety on the menu. We were just expecting something more for the prices. The portion sizes could have been a little bigger and the service a bit quicker.

Overly costly and less than average food. Not authentic Indian.

The service charge is automatically included in your bill, often mentioned discreetly in the menu's small font. Unfortunately, the service is lacking, with staff exhibiting poor customer treatment. The food falls below average and doesn't qualify as authentic Indian cuisine.

We had dinner there last night we ordered bhindi masala and tarka daal with naan , food was delicious especially the bhindi masala best Indian food in soho with great service 👍

We popped in for a meal on New Year's Eve, and had a fabulous meal. My wife said her veggie started and main were possibly the nicest she'd ever had. Great service from Ardeep. Definitely one to recommend

Worst food don't try if you are Indian

Highly recommended. The chai tea was amazing and the food and desserts too. Thank you to Hardeeb in particular who took care of us in such a nice and warm way.

Delicious and friendly service. We ordered green chicken curry. Rogan josh and sag paneer, rice and garlic naan. Definitely would return.

We had a fantastic lunch. The service was amazing. Hardeeb and Naresh were so friendly.

Our rating is based on the vey “thin” sauce with our Dhansak - tasted watered down rather than the thicker sauces we are used to. Drinks unnecessarily expensive for bottled beers. Service was prompt but overall we would not go back.

Overall very good value for money. 40 quid for starter, mains and drink inc. service. Mixed grill and bhindi (okra) veggie dish were very tasty. Chicken curry was also good, but whatever creamy lamb curry I had didn't agree with me, so they lose a star.

I have been coming here for over 25years and Gopal's have been so friendly staff, quality and excellent service and food.

My old colleagues and I meet and eat here from time to time for a catch up. We are always warmly welcomed and the food is excellent. The staff are so friendly and the service is first class. Highly recommended.

We had a wonderful meal at Gopal's. Both the food & staff were fantastic. Our waiters Naresh & Hardeep were so accommodating & happily helped us to navigate their extensive menu. All of their recommendations were delish! We are looking forward to returning during our next trip to London.

I was looking for a restaurant which serves traditional curry and Gopal's did not disappoint. I had my all time favourite saag chicken (spinatch chicken curry) with mango chutney and it tasted so rich and authetic. The saffron rice was nicely cooked and had a delicate flavour. I liked the calm atmosphere and the quiet background music and the waiter was polite and plesant.

Been visiting this Soho curry house for many years and they never disappoint. Took our staff there for our Christmas meal tonight and they did us proud with great food and service as ever.

I have visited many Indian restaurants over the years with mixed experiences. Gopals is great. Excellent and attentive service and lovely food. They were very accommodating with vegetarian requests. Would certainly visit again.

Not very expensive. they are mainly expecting foreigners, not Indians. Not much spicy that is the reason I felt like. A lot of white people were there to eat Biriyani and many chicken items are available there

Un.service parfait. Les serveurs sont adorable et a l'écoute. La nourriture est genial plein de bonne choses plus ou moins épicé. De bon conseils. Certe le cadre paie pas de mine... mais justement pas trop touristique. Donc idéal pour manger un bon indien

Can’t say enough good things about this restaurant. We tried a few other restaurants before finding this and all of them were reservation only. We were able to walk right in here, the service was phenomenal, the food was delicious and although it was warm when we walked in (like every place in London) as soon as we sat down, they kicked in the AC and it was very comfortable. Highly recommend this place to anyone in the area.

Food was solid. The service unfortunately was really bad. The waiter seemed to be frustrated to have more customers; he was tired and barely said a word. Not a pleasant experience.

We had a great meal plenty of choice, we were a large table of 10 and they managed perfectly the service and food were very good . Drinks at a good price as well a good choice.

We are visiting from the USA and had lunch here today. It was wonderful!! The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating to my one year old, and the food was delicious. Their loaded samosa was great, as well as the squid with pepper dish. They even cooked special chicken tikka masala for my baby. We 10/10 recommend!

Had lunch at Gopals today (our second visit). Here are my thoughts: Service is excellent and friendly. Food came out quickly. Ambiance is nice...the restaurant was surprisingly busy on a Monday afternoon. Food is good: aloo gobi was the best, tandoori roti was good too....

We found Gopal's through a recommendation from a friend. I thanked him when we left. The service was top notch and could not have been better. We ordered: Vegetable Samosa - They were smaller than what I'm used to, but they were excellent. Naan - I would have rather went with the garlic Naan, but my daughter would only eat the regular. It was soft and perfect. Vegetable Korma - Probably the best I've ever had. I would have liked more pieces of potato and cauliflower, but it was great anyway. Butter Chicken - Again, another dish I would have not gotten but had to due to my wife and daughter not liking spicy food. Since we are staying at a hotel, it would have been a waste to order a 3rd main course (spicy) and not finished it (and I didn't want to stuff my face and feel awful). Anyway, the dish was tasty and I would highly recommend it for anyone that doesn't appreciate spicy food. If I come back to London, Gopal's is 100% on my list.

I recently visited Gopal's of SOHO restaurant and the service was great. The wait staff were attentive and polite, and the atmosphere was pleasant. However, I was disappointed with the food. The dishes had good presentation, but the taste was lacking. Overall, I would recommend Gopal's of SOHO for the service, but not necessarily for the food.

We had the butter chicken with garlic Naan and the dum biryani(made authentically with a dough seal for its final step) loved it😍. White wine(sauce blanc) paired really well with our food. So glad we stopped in during our lay over ❤️

Wow, that was the BEST curry/experience i’ve ever had in my entire life. I cannot fault any part of it. The staff were friendly, dealt with us quickly, the food - wow. The food was spectacular. I’ve had many curries and this is a different league. I cannot fault this place and I will definitely be back!

The food here was the star of the show, one of the best Indian food experience I’ve had. Had to ask for more naan as it was amazing Only downside is the staff. They are constantly watching you eat and as soon as something is empty they remove it instead of waiting for you to finish all your food. Very off putting

Good service, nice indian food and good atmosphere

I had the pleasure of dining at this Indian restaurant and I must say, their vegan dishes were an absolute delight. The freshness and burst of flavors in each bite were truly impressive. It's rare to find such well-prepared vegan options that satisfy both the palate and the desire for a wholesome meal. If you're looking for a fantastic culinary experience, this restaurant is definitely worth a visit!

Had a wonderful meal there last night with family. We had vegetarian dishes, the samosa chat and paneer sweet sour as starters and daals, chana and Hyderabadi veg as main courses. Food tasted like restaurant food you get in India, which was fantastic! Straight up traditional Indian fare with no mucking about. I like that. And our server was particularly lovely gentleman called Mr Kishore. Fabulous service too! Only downside was they didn't have quite a few dishes on vegetarian menu available. So we were left to choose from whatever they had and didn't get to eat our first choices.

Old fashioned Indian - in that the sauces are made in bulk in advance and they drown whatever protein you choose with it. Food gets worse from there. Unfortunately they haven't advanced over the years like most Indian restaurants.

Me and a friend ate there recently, I had the Chicken Tikka Masala, he had the Biryani, Tarka Dhal and Saag Aloo. We both agreed it was quite possibly the best Indian food we've had and we'll both be coming back again in the future. Great staff, nice and quit for the area as well.

My wife and I have already experienced the lovely food fayres of this restaurant. We had visited a few years ago in a six person party. On this occasion we visited with close friends and we were not let down. The refurbished restaurant is lovely...

As curry is my favourite dish I wanted to find a curry in London. I was in the area and thought I’d try this one. Curry was nice and so was the naan and rice. The waiter was a bit rude when all we wanted...

I tried the biryani, it’s below average, the quantity was also less coupled with standard service.

I would give this restaurant more than five stars if I could! Delicious food and the hosts/staff were friendly and attentive!! I will definitely be stopping back by the next time I am in London!!!! Nyc Ambience Value of Money food Amazing

Incredible food and genuinely awesome people work here. The chicken Tikka was perfectly seasoned and everything melts in your mouth. Clearly they care here. Nar sh made us feel like we're at home and made the experience special. Felt like I was getting food directly from India. Authentic, classic, and delicious. Go go go!!!
