Ummm, not impressed, it appears to have new owners? I ordered a small fish and chips, the chips were pale and underdone.. The fish was so thin you could see through it. The batter wasn't crispy either. At £8.95, I expected much better. Won't be going back 😔

Ordered large battered sausage, chips and curry sauce over the phone. Arrived 10 mins later. It was all ready to collect. It was a great value for money meal. Curry sauce was so tasty. Just wish they would open until 1.45 lunchtimes as 1.30 can be a bit of a rush to get there in time.

Went this evening to Goodies and was disappointed. Before the business was closed due to fire it was without doubt the best cod and chips in the area,it beat Hanburys hands down and I've told many how good it is.However tonight the first time since it re opened though the portions were as large as ever the fish batter was soggy and chips similar which never happened previously, in fact as poor as anywhere else I've been unfortunately. Why such a Change? The owner was still behind the counter who was so good before but seemed it was a younger man cooking now. Please return to how you were as previously you were worth a 5 star.

Top quality food, generous portions and the prices are really low too, with the added bonus of it being the chippie closest to where I live.

I came here with my family & there were 6 of us ordering. We all told the lady serving what food and drinks we wanted, she didn't write any of it down and then asked us to repeat what we wanted as she had forgotten. My mum suggested to the lady that she should write down the order to make sure it was right but she said she 'didn't need to'. The staff were rolling their eyes at each other and being generally rude. The order was then wrong and we ended up with missing chips, fish, sausages and mushy peas. The food we did have tasted fresh and the portion sizes were generous but wasn't worth it for the wait and the hassle of trying to get the order right.

Our GPS (sat nav) told us about this restaurant, so stopped in. The place was busy but the food came very fast. Big servings freshly cooked. The batter was a bit heavy but I dont eat much of that. Chips were great.

Food was absolutely lovely prices are brilliant, the review written before this was absolute rubbish as my whole family have just been fed for a tenner! The fish was absolutely beautiful! Wev just moved to the area so definitely be using there frequently. I read up on the place beforehand on here an the review before this was quite malicious think it may have been rivals as all other reviews were good. Personal opinion an I'm pretty fussy value for money lovely food and pleasant service x

We go there regularly it is not greasy at all, majority of the time i have to wait for the food to be freshly cooked which suits me fine, then I know it has not been cooked and left keeping warm for ages, it is just a shame that it is not open more and for a little longer in the evenings as they shut at 8pm.

The best chippy in the area. generous portions and beautiful skinless and boneless fish which is always fresh and delicious. Ken and Josie Goodyear set such a highstandard and after their retirement the standard has always been very high. mmm, saturday is going to be chippy night!

I've tried all the fish and chip shops in Newton Abbot, and until recently, would have to travel to Torquay's Hanbury's fish & chips in Babbacombe. But I've tried this place a few times now and although not as good as Hanbury's, a really high standard. It's the best in Newton abbot and I'm saving loads on petrol as well , Bonus ! However, a smile with the service would be nice as the staff appear very miserable. Only open Thurs to Saturday, and Cod & Chips around £6 ish. Would still reccomend this place on the quality of the food and the value

Stopped for lunch after walking from Lustleigh with a friend on Tuesday 26/3. She had a tasty baguette and I had the most delicious cheesy chips. The service was great, the atmosphere was warm and cosy and the waitress was so welcoming. The cakes looked amazing too. We're planning a return visit soon

We stayed here for two nights on the “2 nights for 1” deal and would gladly do so again if offered. The reviewer who said the place was a bit sad must be able to afford more luxurious places than us as we found it well maintained and the reviewer who said it could be cleaner is obviously living on a different planet! Apart from the receptionist who had only been there 2 weeks, the staff were welcoming and efficient. It was only the chef on duty in the kitchen on the first night that needs talking to: the starter took long enough to come, but the main course took so long that the lady on the bar had the good sense to offer complimentary drinks. And when my sausage & mash came it was swamped in gravy - why not in a boat I wonder! I was looking forward to sea bass but this was off the nexus that night. The banoffee pie was so outstanding, that I had it again on night 2! But why not serve it without cream when asked to? The prawn starter was good enough, but the Canon of lamb main course was to die for! I think 4 choices for both starter & dessert, and 5 mains, is a bit limiting. Room 1 was dog-friendly and had the most stupendous views out of the window - which opened properly to aerate the room. The bed was comfortable - even for me - and there was both wardrobe and 12 drawers. The TV was enormous and well positioned for bedtime viewing. The bath was pleasantly deep but sadly rather wide and so took an age to fill. The expelair was weak which made the bathroom rather stuffy. There was a 12” electric fan in the wardrobe and an extra blanket as the windows are single glazed. The grounds are beautifully kept and dog-friendly with a poo bin. The cooked breakfast on both mornings was excellent. Both fried & poached eggs were expertly done and it was nice to have a coffee machine so that you could choose what you fancy on the day. Sadly no grapefruit juice; just apple & orange. But the best thing was the dish of bacon & sausage for the dog! As many reviewers say, the drive needs resurfacing and the hotel needs to bite the bullet and have it done. Turning left at the lane is also not to be recommended but there is not a road to be seen from the hotel! The hotel is so quiet! Room 1 is above Reception but we never heard the comings & goings of residents. Dogs are neither allowed in the restaurant nor the breakfast room, but there is a large table on one side of the bar and 3 tables on the other side suitable. I would recommend this hotel whether you have a dog or not.
