Good Luck Chinese Restaurant in Dumfries & Galloway

Took 2 hours to arrive, this might suggest it’s busy because it’s so good. That would be wrong. Bland, tasteless and possibly the worst Chinese meal I’ve tasted.

Possibly the worst food I’ve ever been delivered. Was supposed to be crispy duck with chilli and garlic. What I got was a few boiled bits of duck in with boiled veg in dirty water.. no chilli no flavour and in the bin now

I ordered my Chinese unfortunately it was the wrong address but i corrected this. I never got any prawn Crackers but was charged for them. The bag was soaked with gravy and chips were covered in it. Charged an extra £2 for the wrong address but was not told this on the phone.

I got a chicken curry and the chicken wasnt cooked very well and the fried rice was all hard but im also certain that it wasnt chicken they put in it as it certainly didnt taste like chicken so defo do not recommend and wont be ordering again

I cant lie the portion sizes are huge, the food is great and whoever delivers is always polite and professional. The only real problem me or my friends have found with Good Luck is the deliveries are really hit and miss (most takeaways are in Dumfries) example is I ordered food at 5:30pm and it was there 20 minutes earlier than informed - a friend on the same night ordered at 7pm and his food was 45 minutes late roughly. Obviously this could be a one off but it is something to look out for.

Ordered through just eat. Was told it would be 1hr30mins. Phoned to ask if they could do it quicker and they said 1hr. 2hrs and another phone call later food arrived. No chips that I had ordered. Chicken was stringy and slimey. Carrots were black. No taste to food. Didnt bother phoning back as they were so u helpful previously.

Ordered take out which was Quick to arrive. Alright food. Chow mein was tasty. Affordable prices which is good

ordered a king prawn with ginger and spring onion- what arrived was a congealed mass of old veg including cucumber??? broccoli cauliflower and a tangled mass of old mushy cabbage/beansprouts . the dish looked and tasted like it had been recovered from last weeks compost heap . This type of "food" deserves to be criticised to the max and in all honesty , places serving "food" like this must be ashamed ? The prawns - all five of them were flaccid and half cooked - please look at the photo- never waste your money buying slops from this disgrace to Chinese cuisine .

Ordered food at 7:30pm. Was told it would arrive by 8:30 and then they changed the delivery time to 9pm.. which then tried to contact the restaurant on their online chat service which when we said what our issue was they said their server had closed. When the food arrived there as sauce leaking everywhere. Took the food out of the bag and sauce from the bottom of the bag poured all over my floor. Absolute joke. First and last time I will be ordering from here.

Got sweet and sour chicken balls with fried rice and the sauce was far to sweet and inedible, the rice tasted burnt and had green veg the whole way though it. Not impressed, will not be returning

Regular customer to this Chinese food tonight 24.10.18 was revolting ordered chicken satay skewers plus main course chicken was under cooked and had a foul smell contacted directly they were rude and insisted the smell was marinade they eventually sent a driver to collect the food and he said it was stinking and wouldnt eat it too we kept hold of the chicken and Connected our local Environmental Health officers not happy at all about tge lack of care shown the staff are rude and couldn't care less avoid at all costs unless you have a death wish they also delete comments left on just eat and change reviews from terrible to outstanding its a joke there are several other comments about the chicken smelling dont risk it

Ordered on just eat. Won't be using again. 40 mins added to the order Chilli chicken was about as moist as my boiler insulation. Ordered my wife a simple chip and gravy, the gravy was very spicey.....I mean gravy unless I've been doing it wrong shouldn't be spicey. Would have enjoyed a quaver sandwich more than that meal.

Was edible just, only cos I was starving, really disappointed with the food overall, most dishes didn't taste like any other takeaways dishes and not in a good way, for example the ribs I got were battered, that's a first for me, I wouldn't recommend using this takeaway

The folks who ran the restaurant on English Street have relocated to 9 Queen Street, Dumfries DG1 2JG and operate as a Takeaway only. Great quality chinese food

Good quality food, served promptly to the table even though we were in a big group. Attentive staff offered good service and price.

Myself and my partner ordered a delivery takeaway from here tonight. After waiting an hour and 45 minutes for it to arrive, it came STONE cold. I phoned the Chinese. To be asked by the Chinese lady on the phone "why my dinner was cold" I answered by saying "you tell me". I then asked her how we can solve this. To which I got the most disgusting answer "have you got a microwave, use that to heat it up". I couldn't believe it. I'm sorry but what person with a hygiene certificate would tell someone to do that especially with fried rice and chicken? Both dangerous foods when cooked and reheated. I'm absolutely appalled. To be honest I'm going to take this higher. As I don't think al be the only one who's had his said to them!

Was here in july for a meal with a friend and the food was nice but my friend went to use the ladies and the lighting was ment to come on as you walk in but had been switched off so had to go in the dark,was ok but dont think i would come back as it was a bit costly as we have been to others in town and had the same meal and drinks and didnt cost as much.

Beautiful, tasty meal at very very reasonable prices, with lovely friendly service. Beautiful presentation and plenty of time to enjoy our meal. Would totally recommend a visit. Would go back.

We struggled to find a Chinese restaurant open in Dumfries during the past week We say the Good luck and went in. We had a lovely meal at a reasonable price. Highly recommended to all

I can recommend this clean well run establishment as we have been many times on day trips for lunch. Their three course set menu is extensive and the food is piping hot and decent portions for a very reasonable price. Go for it.

We didnt book, just turned up and were seated without fuss by Connie the owner. who provided 1st class service.. We had a lovely two course meal of the "A La carte" menu. We had a sharing platter to start and the crispy rolls were wonderful, filled with haggis. The prawn toast ribs etc were lovely as well. Main menu was very tasty we had Cantonese Prawns,(huge portion) and Spicy Beef with fried rice. No hesitation in recommending a visit. We shall be returning.

Many other restaurants were full on Saturday night, but we got a table here.The food was OK. The Yat Heen prawns were good, but the Szcechuan prawns could have come from a mediocre takeaway.The decor is tacky and it is cold. The waiting staff hover in the background and take plates away the instant you lay your fork down. Eating with someone watching attentively is offputting.

After reading lots of reviews,we decided to give it a go and try this restaurant.As soon as we walked in we changed our mind to sit and dine in ,in the restaurant as the atmosphere was so clod and not nice.there was no other customers and no music playing at the background as would have felt so awkward if had decided to eat in the restaurant.We ordered some take aways and there wasn't anything special about food to mention(noodles were so dry & could have been tastier if there was a bit more soy sauce in them).Eat in menu prices much more expensive than take away menu.

Best Chinese in dumfries by far ! Always consistent.. food is excellent - as is the service... as coming from England this is our 3rd time at the restaurant & never fails to please... the aromatic crispy duck is a must! Thank you ♡♡

Good meal had curry ,sweet and sour chicken kobo noddles chicken fried rice char sue whole family loved it value for money and excellent delivery

We stumbled upon this place not long before closing time on a Saturday night. The food and service were absolutely amazing. I cannot recommend enough!!

This restaurant is very friendly and lovely modern décor. Food was as good as I have ever had in a Chinese restaurant and price was excellent for the quality.

I have been here and I have to admit it's the best Chinese ever I have never had any faults at all with it and the food is 100% the best I've ever ate from any Chinese!!! I would definitely recommend it, I have never had any problems with the food or anything here! The staff are all nice and friendly they all make you feel very welcoming!! I am proud of what the people do here as they put so much effort into everything! Keep the good work up! ☺

I got a takeaway last night for my birthday but it must be the worst meal ever. I started with the Good Luck Special Soup but they forgot to put any veg or noodles into it. It was just a bowl of salty stock with three small pieces of meat floating in it - more like Bad Luck Special Soup. I'd ordered King Prawn in Oyster sauce but got Prawns with Mixed Veg (which had no sauce at all). The king prawns were so over cooked they were like chewing rubber whereas the veg (which was mainly cauliflower) was raw (not crunchy - raw). The boiled rice was also stale. It must have been for a long time as most of it had dried out, some of it had actually turned back into hard inedible kernels. I didn't ask for crackers but they gave me some free ones. I'm not surprised they give them away, they were so greasy they were yellow colour. Wasted £10 on this. I "drank" the soup but the rest was inedible. To round up: £9:20 for uncooked Rice, uncooked veg, overcooked prawns, wrong meal, stale crackers and forgotten ingredients!

They were able to take 10 of us no problem on a Friday night. Decor maybe is a bit old fashioned and random but the food was excellent. Another table drank all the Sav Blanc though. I don't think the restaurant had many bottles in reserve! I chose the spiciest thing on the menu (4 wee chillies at it) but I didn't even need to take a sip of my beer. If you like really spicy it may not be the place for you. And a wee tip, if the menu says "banana fritters" it is actually a banana fritter - singular.

We visited Dumfries for two nights, and chose this restaurant for one evening's meal. On the outside the restaurant seems a bit run down, and the menu on display seems run of the mill. But inside it's much better. The menu is far from run of the mill. We were welcomed by the staff, and looked after attentively all through the meal.We decided to have a main meal and a sweet. I had a Korean hot pot. It was excellent, with plenty of duck and vegetables, and with rice included in the price. It consisted of meat, veg, and a lovely 'gravy' which was delicious. Some of the puddings were home made, which is unusual for a Chinese restaurant; my wife had the cheesecake, which she found excellent. I just had ice cream, because I had found the main meal very filling.The restaurant has a very good wine list. We had a 2009 Rioja, which was outstanding. We had looked at many other restaurants, but chose this one. We're glad we did.

Very clean, great choice of food. Had the 1/4 duck which was a large portion between my mother and myself but really tasty. Took a recommendation for one of the main dishes and I was not disappointed. Good value.

Ive been here a couple of times and willContinue to do so! Fab Chinese great value for money and very plentiful portions! Staff are friendly and service is prompt. I recommend the takeaway service also!

A great night out before the cinema, table of six was pre-booked but the welcoming staff allowed two tables to be added together to fit us, great service, great food, great place

We ate here on our first evening in Dumfries and enjoyed it so much we booked for Valentines night, also our wedding anniversary, the food is excellent and staff are very friendly

The food and service are both very good but the drinks are a problem. No draught beers and the pinot grigiot is honking! Overpriced drinks too.

Decent takeaway. Best in Dumfries. Albeit nowhere near standard of three central belt Chinese used to get when I lived up there, other 4 Chinese tried here poor. Friendly and polite staff.

Had an unexpected vist from friends from Glasgow yesterday 21/08/14 so I took the to my favourite Chinese,and as always the food was fantastic,the hot and sour soup and chilli ribs are to die for, my friend likes alittle less heat in their food and choose sweet and sour chicken Cantonese style which they said was perfect.the menu is all homemade with fresh ingredients, I work in the the food industry and I drive a 24 mile round trip to this restaurant when I feel like a takeaway, (passing three other ones on the way )I have also use the restaurant at lunch times and they have a very good 3course set meal and good value. I have tried a lot of the menu and never yet had a bad meal, there is also a wide choice in drinks. The staff are always very helpful,and connie is always there to greet you with a smile.You can never please everyone all the time, but this restaurant will bend over backwards to accommodate. The best Chinese in town.

We had had a very tiring day when we changed buses in Castle Douglas and confessed to the bus driver that we were starving and ready for a good meal. He told us right away that he knew exactly where we were going to eat that night and when we got to Dumfries he pointed the way to the Good Luck Restaurant. My partner was dubious but we pushed open the door and were immediately clear that we were somewhere with personality. The very tender and meaty duck dish that we ordered for one of our dishes was equally assertive and successful. The beef dish was a little more laid back but tasty. I live in an Asian influenced city so was really intrigued to see Asian/Scottish fusion dishes, including haggis, on the menu. I'd also never witnessed Chinese food being served with chips before but watched a table of six having this new to me combo. I also found the beer and bar menu more extensive than most Chinese restaurants I've eaten in. I noticed lots of people comment on the friendliness of the service. I found the two servers very efficient but perhaps we looked too bedraggled to befriend.

Visited good luck on sat 5/7/2014 and we both were immensely impressed with the welcome and level of service. Had scallop starter which was to die for and the beef curry with fried rice was the best we have ever tasted. eleven out of ten to the team at good luck and hope your future remains bright. We are working our way around Dumfries Chinese takeaways trying to find best one. (There have been some shockers!) Unfortunately for them the reference point is the excellent Cotton House in the central belt. Best crispy beef so far and curry was judged to be good by better half. Would have given 3.5 but lady who served us so friendly and helpful, which isn't always the case in Chinese restaurants, so a 4.

lovley frersh cooked food great service couldnt fault it in any way i had haggis sticks to start king prawn marinade and fresh home cooked chips the service was out of this world would highly recommend good luck for eating they also do a lovley 3 course lunch

Worst Chinese food I've ever had in my life!!! Chicken noodle soup tasted like cuppa soup with noodles and packet chicken chucked in, there was also a hair on my bowl!!! Had a beef curry for main which was unbelievably sweet, had to heep it with salt! Inedible, yuck yuck yuck!!! Never going back and would not recommend! Best part of the meal was the pint of Tennants! Now back home with a rather sore stomach! Won't be back.

Some dishes were ok, but battered duck? What the? And battered ribs, with next to no meat?Also, item missing from order. Only our second chinese takeaway in dumfries. This is much better than Yangtze River, but still not great.

I went to Good Luck Chinese restaurant today with my gran for lunch, the place is like Marmite, you either love or hate it.The good points are the food, my lunch of chicken and noodle soup, sweet and sour chicken Cantonese style with fried rice and vanilla ice cream and Gran's lunch of spring rolls with plum sauce, rainbow chicken and vanilla ice cream was all very nice.But the bad points were that the restaurant was a bit drab, good if your favourite colour was purple and the place was quiet too quiet, if you do choose to go this restaurant I would recommend going at a buiser time, but come early if you decide to eat here as you will get better service.I hope that by reading this review you will make Good Luck your first stop

We went to celebrate my 50th birthday. Had a wonderful evening. The staff were very pleasant and couldn't do enough for us. We were a group of 27 and the food just kept coming, so tasty. How do you please all these people. Can't thank Connie , her husband and staff enough for a fantastic evening..fantastic.

Great food, great prices, great people, nice, kind and funny. The food came out hot and smelling great, the food tasted wonderful, some of the best Chinese we have ever had. We had the dry crispy chicken stir fry and the salt and pepper beef with some chow mien and a quarter duck, and all of it was finger licking good. We recommend everyone go and bring your mom, its that good.

Visited on a Sunday night and can't fault a thing, starters were freshly cooked and tasted great, followed on by amazing main courses, a lot of dishes are Scottish-Asian fusion and work well together.Connie is a great host and we look forward to returning.
