Went with friends on spec. Friendly and attentive service, and food was very good and well presented. Would certainly go again if in Oakengates, or for a takeaway from there.

I was excited when this place opened as we lack a sit down Chinese restaurant locally in a high street that at one point hosted four sit down Indian restaurants! I walk past regularly on the way back from the train station and regrettably it often seems very quiet, with at best one table occupied which is a shame as when we got round to visiting we thoroughly enjoyed it. The food was fresh, hot and tasty and generous portions at a reasonable price. This was the early days of the restaurant and I think a lack of experience did show in the service - despite it being incredibly quiet (we were the only table in there on a Friday night) there were 2 waitresses AND a supervisor constantly milling around and we did become conscious in the end that they were always watching - they also seemed unfamiliar with the menu, often having to check what exactly they were offering. Despite that though they were pleasant and friendly enough and it didn't detract from a lovely meal. Months down the line it rarely seems any busier despite various pricing initiatives but hopefully they can persevere and make it a success because it's a good addition to Oakengates solid portfolio.

We visited this restaurant on a Friday evening at around 7.30pm and we were surprised to find the restaurant empty which is such a shame as it has a lot going for it. It's the only eat in Chinese Restaurant in Oakengates and the food is really good. Every dish was freshly cooked and really tasty, nothing was 'gloopy'. The duck starter was excellent, very flavoursome instead of being cremated to a total crisp and the main sizzler dishes were delicious. The prices are very reasonable for a sit down meal and the service was excellent although as there was only one other couple that arrived, it's hard to say how they would cope with a full house. It's definitely worth a visit.

I went here with my partner and our friends for a joint birthday bash at Chinese New Year; we'd booked a table thinking it was going to be busy, but were a little concerned to arrive at 7.30 pm to find only one other couple in there. And only one other couple turned up whilst we were there - 8 customers in total! Perhaps a Monday night in Oakengates was a much greater influence than the fact it was Chinese New Year, because the great food at a really keen price should have seen this place full. Having looked at the menu, we all selected the 'As much as you can eat' buffet at only £11.95 each. Between the 4 of us, we selected 8 different starters and each portion came with enough for each of us to try, including the crispy duck. Everything was well cooked, tasty and clearly not just smothered with MSG. All you can eat? OK, lets have another round of starters - different ones, but again all really tasty. After this, we moved onto the mains. I had ribs and they were great - meaty and tasty once more. Stir fried veg was crisp and dry whilst the noodles was just right. We also had a selection of beers and a couple of bottles of wine - it was joint birthdays. Total price was around £22 each and we were all full. The Golden Star hasn't been opened long, but should be doing really well on our experience. If anyone fancies a sit-down Chinese in the Oakengates area, perhaps before or after a trip to @The Place or a pub crawl, then I'd heartily recommend that you try here.

Service really slow, waited over an hour for my food, after a long wait wasn't that nice anyway. Definitely won't be returning.

This was our third visit to this restaurant. They have now started a new menu with a great variety. Food is excellent and so is the service. Good value for money. The only negative is that it is never busy, with many empty tables. Hopefully with more reviews they will get more deserved custom in the restaurant.

This is the only sit down Chinese restaurant in Oakengates although they also do takeaways. This was our second visit following an excellent meal two weeks prior. We had a starter which was like a full course in itself, and asked if we could share a main course. This was no problem. On the first visit had duck with plum sauce and on this visit had Cantonese beef. On each occasion the food was very tasty and beautifully cooked, perhaps though the duck was a little salty. Restaurant is spotless as were the toilets. We found the price of the meals and drinks very reasonable. Also on this occasion there were no female waitresses, as were on the first visit. The female waitresses were dressed in full Chinese costumes which added to the occasion so a shame was not the case on the second visit. I have to say that they were far more attentive than the male waiters. Also if you have any food left, they are more than happy to let you take it away with you and we left with chips nicely parcelled up in a heat save container! We will definately be visiting again

Tried this restaurant out last Friday with my family including 3 kids. Was excited to go here as Oakengates has no local Chinese eat in and take out restaurant. I ordered a starter and mains for everyone and was met with a friendly and helpful waiter who could not do enough for the children. Décor inside is brand new and the food came out hot and fresh (which is what I judge my meals on) and tasted great. Would highly recommend. I have not tried the take out service yet but will be doing shortly! A1+

I tried this restaurant as it had just opened and was offering 20% off as an introductory offer. Ordered chicken satay skewers, pork chow mien and shredded chicken with fried rice. Order was over £20 (with discount) which I thought was a little expensive. Food was diabolical and every course except rice was dry. My shredded chicken was really tough and (I hate to say) reminded me of chewing a rodents tail 😁 I will not be eating from this restaurant again.

Missing a Chinese Restaurant locally, we were excited when this opened. When I looked at menu and saw they did Pork Dumplings as a starter, I was sold! Family of 5, 3 children. Food was average tasting, (have had tastier takeaways), I was short changed by 2 Pork dumplings to which the response when I pointed to out was 'sorry'! No efforts to make amends or reduce the price of the dish! Cost was £73.00 had 3 beers between us 2 and the kids had a coke each. Expensive for what it was. We were the only diners and were constantly stared at. Glad we have been, don't think we will be going again. Seems vey little foot traffic, be interesting to see if this goes the same way as so many in Oakengates. Pity, it could and should have been a better experience!

TheMeal was a absolute Joke, The special chow mein came in Two Containers, these containers were half the size of normal containers and the containers were only half filled, the container with the so called Vegetable's and meat was a joke, There were two king prawns, two small pieces of beef, two small of pork, and one piece of small chicken, 4 half’s of mushrooms and one sweetcorn and the rest was mainly onions, these had clearly been counted into the half full container, the boiled Rice is the smallest container I have ever seen, this was certainly not value for money and I would never go here again,

For the last 25 years we have relied on Wondercook as our go to Chinese takeaway in Telford. It’s a very authe style of cooking and as we are vegetarian we usually get a Tofu based dish. Wondercook is one of the very few local takeaways that actually use fresh tofu rather than canned or packet options ( which are spongey and tasteless). The food is always delicious at Wondercook and the delivery and service is always reliable and in good time. Best takeaway in the world in my humble experience.

Had house special curry and house special chow mein. Decent food and value for money. Not the best I've ever had but still good
