Golden Pheonix in Plymouth

Been here a couple of time and must say fantastic food! sweet and sour chicken is very good, and special chow mein is excellent, service was exceptional and delivery driver was lovely, definitely be ordering from here again!

I've been using this Chinese for about 6 months now & never had a bad one from them, one of the only that I have found that you can get a mix of sweet n sour batter balls chicken,prawn & pork.

DREADFUL! Went to golden Phoenix and ordered sweet &sour chicken hong kong style Duck in Plum sauce and special chow mein with NO VEG or SHRIMP in anything. Got home opened sweet n sour chicken and it was absolutely full of VEG! Duck in Plum sauce had jelly-ish stuff all over it and truthfully it looked terrible...didn't taste any better. Chow mein had plenty of meat in it but could of done without the spam tho it didn't belong in this dish at all. I did call to complain about it being full of veg and was told they thought I meant no veg in the chow mein so I suppose they could of misheard me . I did actually make myself try to eat my food (as I'd just paid £27.50 hoping I could eat it over 2 nights saving me cooking again tomorrow) but only got about half way through and just couldn't eat any more of it having to admit to myself I had wasted my money and in the bin it went. The girl on the counter was very polite and helpful shame that the food didn't match. Overall VERY POOR

Over charged me, difficult to get resloved

The food is above average and the staff are really nice. They don’t take cards or contactless payment, the only digital way to pay is by bank transfer. I have 2FA on my account so can’t send money to a new recipient without my card reader.

Excellent chinese meal yesterday (during lockdown). We ordered sweet and sour chicken balls, chicken and cashew nuts, Sambal and Crispy Chilli Beef. It was all delicious, hot and fresh tasting. Good variety of beg too (some takeaways just fill the portion with beansprouts or waterchestnuts!) but this had a really good variety of veg and meat. We will definitely eat there again.

Pedí una comida de Golden Pheonix recientemente tengo que decir que me sorprendió gratamente. Las raciones son realmente grandes. Panqueque roll masivo. El rebozado era bastante grasiento, las gambas muy suaves en lugar de crujientes. Las verduras también eran suaves y no crujientes. Fueron rápidos y llegaron a tiempo.

I didn't have a menu so was guided by the lady who took my order Food very good - have seen previous reviews state heavy on the garlic --- and that is true - but you could always ask for less Seen review state there's steps @the front - does that change the quality of the food? My order was exactly what I asked for -- arrived within time stated Very pleased Thank you ---

An amazing experience the true taste of Asia

This is the place we go to for a family treat. We have a large family ( 5 kids, 2 adults) and this place does excellent portion sizes for good value with money ( there is always some leftover). The food is served quickly and always cooked thoroughly and deliciously. I cannot recommend them enough. My husband loves their chips and often fancies a snack of chips from them! The actual property is not accessible for wheelchairs/pushchairs, but they do free delivery within 3 miles and the staff are always very helpful and friendly.

There are plenty of Chinese takeaways around this area but this is certainly the best. We have tried plenty of dishes here and even when ordered to be delivered, the food always arrives piping hot and very tasty!

Used on holiday good food very tasty

I've tried quite a few in the area and beyond but I find The Pheonix is the best takeaway Chinese I have had. Amongst my favourites are the spareribs, in either sweet and sour, Szechuan or Peking. Great marinated pork dishes too. One of the things I like is that if you choose a dish that has various meets in it plus prawns they have no problem substituting beef with another meat. I have never been a fan of beef in a Chinese food. Great sauces, great variety and home delivery. The Pheonix has risen.

Always friendly on the phone, food is the best we found in Plymouth. Has been our regular Chinese for a couple of years now even after we moved out of the area! Delivery ussally quite quick aswell!

Hadn’t been here for years. Used to be and maybe still is small functional and out of the ordinary. There are issues. They are not currently taking cards or contactless phone payments, you cannot get into the door without steps, parking is limited and worse than hit and miss, they also have to compete with at least two other long established Chinese takeaways each within two minutes walk.

Order arrived in time, but missing a dish. Called to fix the problem, but told 3 times to search the bag. Only ordered 5 dishes, so didn’t take too long. Was then told dish was definitely placed in bag and could have a free dish next time. Stated I wouldn’t be ordering again and would like a refund as a result of being questioned 3 times. I was told my order was the only on delivery and cctv shows the chef placing order into bag. Annoyed at the lengths they have gone to, to not to rectify there mistake. Poor business practice in order to take £5.20. Please be aware if you do order and there is a problem, you will be questioned on your honesty. Pity really as food taste good and ordered a couple times with friends, but not the first time with difficulties when they make a mistake.

Have been ordering from Golden Phoenix since I lived in peverell. Food is always great. Recently changed their sweet and sour sauce but it's nicer than other Chinese takeaways so another reason to keep coming back!
