Golden Lion in Allerdale

I was in Keswick, to do some solo mountain walking, prior to going to my accommodation, I always visit the Town Centre, I pick up some essentials, followed with a visit to the Golden Lion, on this occasion I only attended for a couple of drinks, however, as always the staff were friendly and welcoming, and as lone traveller, I always find that the other customers are a mix of visitors and locals, and it is easy to strike up a conversation with other customers, often this is to do with my love of dogs, and it is hard to find a suitable place sometimes to accommodate dogs as well, so it is lovely that you allow dogs in. Overall a very pleasant experience, thank you.

Absolutely amazing food and service ,all staff went above and beyond ,we was very well looked after ,staff made sure we was OK and we had enough drinks ,couldn't of been looked after any better well done to the staff and management at the golden lion kewsick Thankyou

What a lovely Sunday roast we had here last weekend with lovely friendly staff. Food was well priced, decent portion and hot. My daughter is coeliac - she wasn’t with us but I always check with staff whether they can accommodate. Terrible sharing platter, nothing was seasoned as described. Burnt onion rings, about a small handful of fries and chicken strips the size of nuggets. Absolutely dreadful and not cheap either.

Tom and Tony gave excellent service and they love making cocktails. The food was great and fast service. We will be back soon

Visited twice in the afternoons and found the service very good with plenty of choice of ales. It's quite deceiving from the outside at the front as it goes back inside quite a way. On each occasion we had a nice relaxing drink even when quite busy.

Both the chicken burger and the chicken with sweet chili wrap were very good. Service was friendly. Good people watching from the outside tables or those inside facing the street

I went for a meal, ordered a drink and a steak meal at the bar. The staff and service were ok and the food taste ok, was not to busy.

Great that the pub has been taken over by Green King and money has been invested in updating it. Lovely atmosphere, a great selection of drinks and you can also watch sport. Food was also lovely. Steak and Ale pie is definitely award winning as per the advert! The only negative is that despite only being open less than a year the ladies toilets are already looking grubby and could do with a thorough deep clean.

Hadn’t been to this pub for years as it was never the nicest place but it has had a really good makeover and we loved it in there.Proper pub with screens if you like sport but it’s just a great place for a drink.Cannot comment on food as we didn’t eat here but will definitely visit again when in Keswick.

We were assured on the phone that the Golden Lion would be able to accommodate 10 of us - and luckily they were! Friendly bar staff and waitresses. Good choice of beers, which went down a treat especially for those of our party who had ventured to the top of Skiddaw earlier in the day. We ordered cheese and bacon burgers, veggie burger, and blue cheese burger, scampi, both pies, hunters chicken and gammon - and all were absolutely delicious. We highly recommend for a reasonably priced tasty dinner and a friendly atmosphere.

We were meeting friends from Manchester so Keswick is a good place for a catch up. The Golden Lion was just opening when we arrived and Ellie served us and was very cheerful and helpful. We ordered two of the excellent award winning pies , a Mac and cheese and a scampi. All served with freshly cooked chips and tasting marvellous. We followed this with Apple and Bramble pie and custard which was lovely too. Clearly all of us were watching our diet . You can't have too many pies when they are this good. Stu served us with the food and a smile and clearly Trey the chef is doing a very good job providing this food. The pub is bright and well kept service is excellent and food delicious. Very highly recommended

went here due to it being a greene king which is what i use when i am in my home town of Burnley however that's when it stops mixed grill with peppercorn sauce and a pint £27.95 my god it was awful chicken over cooked frozen chips no mushrooms no egg bit of chicken bit of stake 2 luke warm sausage and 2 teaspoons of peppercorn sauce should be ashamed of yourself i know its a tourist town better food in Weatherspoon's and £10 cheaper

Lovely pub in Keswick, we both had the steak pie and after a 13 miles walk it was absolutely just what we needed. Lovely “big” pie lashings of gravy. Very good.

One of the best pubs in Keswick, fantastic beers and just gorgeous food, we went twice in the same week, lovely atmosphere especially since it’s been refurbished and the staff are fantastic, friendly and attentive but not over the top, we where a group of 10 with 4 kids and felt very welcome they had high chairs for the baby too.
