Carnegie in Allerdale

Came for a bite to eat with my family. Paninis, sandwiches and baguettes which were so soft. Massive latte which meant I was happy. Very nice

My wife and I ordered our food at 11:45 and at 12:00 we asked a waitress when our food would be ready. She said they were busy but it was being made. At 12:10 we asked another waitress when could we expect our order, she said they were just waiting for chips. At 12:20 we were just about to cancel our order when the waitress arrived with our order. I told her we had been waiting 35 minutes and people had been served with food (including chips) who had only been waiting five minutes. As I was telling her this she actually turned around and walked away from us. Total bad manners towards a paying customer. When I started to eat my food I found the pie was dry and crispy, the chips white and yet red hot and the peas were dried out. Perhaps we'd been forgotten, I don't know. We left most of the food and didn't bother to complain on the way out because of the staff attitude we didn't think it would be worth it. What I do know is the staff were rude and didn't seem unduly bothered by their poor performance, the food was cooked to a very poor standard and I definitely will not be visiting here again.

Lovely friendly staff, great food at fantastic prices. I had the festive baguette which was delicious. My partner had the potato and leek soup and a toastie which again was delicious. Such a handy place to visit when in town, very accessible for prams and wheelchairs too. Definitely worth a visit.

On a very overcast Friday I found myself rather bored so I decided to visit cafe carniege. I was only planning on getting a coffee but the low food prices caught my attention so I decided to order scrambled eggs on toast. The toast was good it the eggs were clearly microwaved and under seasoned but nothing a sachet of brown sauce or two couldn't sort out. The coffee was ok as was the service Overall 5/10. Would I return? Yes, if my eggs were to be cooked properly.

Lovely staff, and venue for a cafe, very well decorated and thought out, dog friendly aswell 😊🐶👍food was lovely and came out fast even though it was busy, well done to all the staff, amazing customer service!! Cakes looked amazing aswell, will try when we are back next time! Thankyou!

What an amazing full breakfast we had. Really enjoyed every bit of it. Piping hot and if you are hungry just the ticket. The staff are lovely and very helpful. I will definitely will be returning.

I am a big fan … on this occasion got my order wrong twice , my friend nearly finished her lunch before mime came . They did offer me a coffee. Not asked if I wanted condiments…. Not asked how everything was when I paid .

Ordered some Father’s Day cupcakes from the cafe Carnegie, easy to order by messenger. Got a quick response to my message. Cupcakes were ready at the agreed time to collect them. They tasted delicious. Very light sponge and lovely and fresh. Really good price too. Highly recommend and I will definitely order from them again

Visited to have afternoon tea. Better half had a “Tractor shed” tea which was savoury and a bottle of fine Tractor Shed ale. The sweet afternoon tea was delicious. We took the leftovers home because the food was so nice. Definitely worth booking.

Ate here a week ago and had a nice "mixed leaf salad" returned today. OMG ordered mixed leaf ham salad with a side Caeser Sauce. My wife ordered a Prawn Mixed leaf salad with a side chilli sauce. We had a Pot of Tea. It arrived withina few minutes. This was not mixed leaf this was a lettuce cut into strips, (both plates), the prawns were very small, hard, and whoever had prepared it had just tipped the side of Chilli sauce over the whole pate and it was swimming in it. The ham salad, ( see photo) at least the Caeser sauce was in a small pot, but the salad was just lettuce cut up. There was some ham, which was ok, once I had removed the fat. The tea cup, was hacky, and didnt realise this until I had taken a drink. Very dissapointed.

Went into for a coffee and cake which was excellent. Other people were eating meals which looked appetising. Had my dog with me and he was pampered all visit by staff who clearly love paws. He enjoyed a sausage and was even given treats on the way out ! Great laid back vibe and atmosphere and very friendly staff who were happy to advise on the best places to visit in Cumbria. My advice is to visit this place, you will not be disappointed with the service or the quality of food

Lovely food and the cafe has had an upgrade inside. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Better half had a burger and really enjoyed it. Beautiful cakes. Reasonable prices and a charming cafe that we’ll be visiting again.

The weary traveller was in need of sustenance and a ‘can do’ attitude. We found that in this most unexpected of venues in Workington. Lovely quirky setting, clean arty and spacious with hospitality and customer service in abundance. The world needs more Georginas - who seeing me wilt at the words ‘we are just closing’ flipped the switch back up on coffee machine and we were back in business. It means a lot in these times to experience pure human kindness and great service.

Lovely cafe and great atmosphere. New menu is great .So pleased it as reopened I have missed going in . Staff always friendly and helpful. Great selection of food and drinks. Dog friendly. Food always excellent at reasonable prices . Bonus they take Blue light card .

Wow. Fantastic alternative to the traditional afternoon tea. Great if you prefer savouries to all that jam and scone nonsense. Homemade burger with bacon and cheese, pulled pork slider, roast beef and gravy in a Yorkshire pudding, crackling, pork pie, scotch egg, potato wedges, pigs...

Lovely friendly staff here & it’s dog friendly too. The place is spacious, clean & bright. The food is very good. On this occasion we had a lovely homemade soup & a fabulous homemade cheesecake. Not bad prices either

Went into Cafe Carnegie with a friend, I ordered two coffees and some Scampi and Chips for me, The staff were exceptionally friendly and the food was delicious, reasonably priced and coffee was amazing, would highly recommend this place.

Stopped by the Carnegie Café for beautiful breakfast just before we started our coastal walk. The food was cooked to perfection and the staff were incredibly friendly and always made sure we have everything we needed!

Es un lugar con un buen plato de honesto, completo, de comida a un precio asequible. Mi compañero y yo pedimos el desayuno dietético para quien lo desee, que consistía en un plato generoso de "Mundo" estilo dietético para quien lo desee bajo en grasa/aceite no hay comida de desayuno (tocino, huevos, salchichas, tostadas, etc. e incluso incluía café para poco más de 4 libras! ‎ En total) no pude encontrar ninguna pega con la comida, cada aspecto estaba profundamente satisfactorio.

My first visit here - only just discovered it exists. It is a late Victorian theatre, nicely restored without losing any of it's charm, and with seating upgraded in the last 5 years or so, I believe. It has all the facilities of a larger theatre, bar etc., and interval drinks can be pre-booked. Tickets can be bought online and printed at home, should you wish. Fantastic and enthusiastic staff. What a great night out!

Went as a family of 3 and paid £17 for 3 huge meals we were unable to finish- great value for money. I got the breakfast bap (changed to a baguette) which was absolutely amazing and we also got a large breakfast, scampi chips and salad and another large portion of chips and 3 drinks. Will definitely return

The last couple of times I have been here the quality of food has been very poor. It is a shame because I used to rate it very high on my places to eat. Fingers crossed it improves.

We have ate at the Carnegie on a number of occasions. The food is good quality home cooking and the service has always been polite and friendly. We recommend trying the home made cherry scones and a cup of milky coffee ( it's made the old fashioned way.) Overall great value for money.

I've been to 2 concerts at the Carnegie now and had a great time both times. I sat in the balcony on my first visit and had an excellent view of the stage. On my second concert I was on the front row and again had an excellent view. The sound and intimacy of the venue is excellent for getting up close to the performers. Something lots these days in the great arenas. All I need is for more of my favourite groups to come to Workington!

Stopped in here for a quick lunch whilst out shopping after being recommended,There is a varied menu for old and young but it is like a works canteen with local woman running it.The food was hot,freshly prepared but not very well presented but this is just the place for the lower end of food.quick

A really good place to eat, home cooked food and reasonably priced. A good choice on the menu and very quick service. They also serve lovely coffee if you just want a cuppa.

Carneige do all home cooked foods, they make all their own cakes and scones too.The prices at Carneige are good and the service is always spot on. There is always a lot of people there because the food is so good. Ideal for disabled people, as there are no steps to get in. The ladies who work in Carneige are always friendly. There is a booking office in the food hall if you wanted to book to see a show at the theatre.

Very easy access for wheelchair. Can get very busy which does make delays in getting the food. It is however good homemade food. Think sometimes the staff need to relay information regarding approx waiting time for food. The chips my kids love and the breakfasts are lush

Went today with friends for a breakfast, very reasonably priced, varied menu and not too long to wait. Plenty of seats and always has people in. Ideal for families, plenty of highchairs and loads of rooms for prams.

Went to watch the youngsters do a version of Grease. Loved it. Did book to go back and see Sister Act, but sadly I ended up in hospital and couldn't make it. Will definitely be going to see another show soon.

There is nothing fancy about the Carnegie Cafe but it provides good quality home made food at extremely reasonable prices. The soup is always good, and, according to my children, the chips are the best in town. You order at the counter and food is brought to the tabke, generally pretty promptly, which is always a plus when you are out shopping with bored children!There are plusher places to eat in the town, but if you want straightforward home made food at a decent price, you won't go wrong with the Carnegie.

Go regular on a Friday morning for breakfast, I highly recommend this place, food is gorgeous. Freshly made, home cooked food. Staff are really good too, friendly, helpful. Very good prices for food you recieve.

I enjoy eating out and like visiting nice places to eat but to be honest the Carnegie isn't serving posh nosh, and it certainly isn't posh surroundings. But for good value, well cooked home made food The Carnegie is definately well worth a visit. A decent menu and decent service. Visited on Monday and had corned beef and onion pie with chips. Another meal of sausage , egg and chips was also ordered. No it's not posh nosh or fine dining, but it was tasty, tasty, tasty. I've visited before and will definately be back. Give it a go. Nice tasty food for a reasonable price.

Had pie peas and gravy for lunch one afternoon and my friend had quiche with chips and salad and the quality and quantity was brilliant . Will be back.

Call here for your Slimming World almost Syn free breakfast. Delicious. Bacon - no fat - ,baked beans, tomato, a fat free sausage and tomato plus whole meal toast. Optional butter. Tea or coffee with sweeteners if needed. Very busy at lunch times and so quite noisy but called Sat morning, about ten and it was roomy, quiet and very pleasant. Swift service with hot food.

Always visit here with my young children on a regular basis when shopping in town. The facilities for children and baby's are excellent there's baby changing facilities highchairs and a varied children's menu all at a very reasonable price and to top it off the food is homemade never had a bad meal here

great place for finding all sorts of local events and activites, bustling cafe, serving affordable, good food. its upgrade of the theatre makes shows much more pleasant.

Initially tried another café in town, but lack of space for customers, let alone a toddler and buggy made it very stressful. However, this place feels very relaxed; there's room for buggies and plenty of highchairs - clean as well ! Served quickly even though it was busy so that was a good start. Grandson enjoyed his fish fingers, beans and chips. I think there was 4 fish fingers instead of the usual 2 you get in most other cafes. Only downside for me was that my chips were lukewarm - it felt that I had got the dregs from the bottom and they had stood around a little before being dished up. I would have normally complained, but this time decided not to. Price was very reasonable also, especially in comparison with some other cafes. Would try it again

The Carnegie café is handy for a light meal or coffee when in Workington town centre for shopping ect. The staff are friendly and helpful

This is quite an unexpected little gem of a place. The food is all home made, and was beautiful. I had ham salad, which was gorgeous. The chips are proper home made chips, and all the pies are home cooked. They do a really lovely Sunday dinner too. I go to this place every time I visit Workington and love it!! Dawn and Paul have really done a brilliant job, and every one is welcome, I've got a 3 year old and she is made welcome every time :)

As you can see from my reviews, I like eating out in rather more pleasant surroundings, But I actually love going to the Carneige for a bowl of soup, or other light meal. The surroundings leave a lot to be desired, and if you can find a table to sit at, (as between 11.30 and 1.00 it will be packed out ) you wont be disappointed with the home made food, Loads better and even cheaper than Wetherspoons. Have even had Sunday dinner here, which was excellent.

I haven't been into the Carnegie for years and have avoided it! It used to be dated and very, very cliquey - if they didn't know you or you weren't a regular, you got The Look (flashes of Rosyton Vasey).I went in by chance this month and what a difference. It's had a makeover, is spruced up and clean and still offers good value food, but now in an atmosphere open to everyone.Definitely worth a visit if you haven't been for a while, with the great advantage of being very big inside and perfect for families with buggies as well as having disabled access and plenty of room for wheelchairs once you're in there.

I go here at least twice a week and even more in the school holidays, its all home cooked food and they do excellent value for money kids meals and cater for everyone young and old Dawn and paul have done an excellent job running this cafe well done

The Carnegie offers great all round family fun with a excellent cafe with home made food the staff are all friendly and helpful.

Great. Refurbished and looking good. Show was excellent. The acting was good and the singing was very good. We went as a family and all enjoyed it.

Nice friendly staff,good food and not expensive ,four of us had lunch with drinks for just over £17:00 . Absolutely loved the home cooked Roast Ham.
