Golden Horse in East Dorset

I looked at the reviews and saw that this place was under new management so thought I would give it a try for myself. I'm so glad I did, 😊 the staff were very friendly and the food was amazing, lovely flavours, generous portions and so yummy 😋 I saved some for my husband but think I might have a second plate in a bit as it was seriously delicious.

New owners, great food. As they are new you can tell they are getting used to serving at the restaurant but I’m sure that will improve with experience over time. But definitely worth it overall

Visited here earlier this week and the food was great. was great and service was quick. Portions were also a great size, so good value for money. It seems the restaurant has changed hands and they’ve made good improvements from the previous management / owners. Don’t be put off by the previous bad reviews they’re just not relevant anymore!

I know this company. I like to share with you the secret, why is very delicious the food of Golden Horse? Because the Shefs are from famous high qualified Bournemouth restaurant call 1805! The one of best Chinese food in Bournemouth area! Bon apatite enjoy it!

First time trying Golden Horse since it's been taken over by new owners. At first I was skeptical as I haven't been here for a while but a friend suggested I give it another go (already given up on my new year's resolution!!) Ordered sweet and sour chicken balls, chow mein, special fried rice, beef and black bean sauce, stir fried veggies and crispy duck - WOW! One of the best takeaways I've had for a while!!! I will 100% be coming back and making it my regular once again. Yummmmm !!

Ordered at 6:50, delivery said 7:50-8:10. Chased at 8:30, said it would arrive at 8:50. Turned up at 9:15. Food was nice once arrived but won’t be ordering again.

As I went in, the girl at the desk rolled her eyes and shook her head at me. Politely I asked for my order and she continued to do so, i said thank you and gave her my money and I received my change by having it dumped into my hand. This was rude and i do not plan on coming back

Everything was overcooked and swimming in grease. The pork was like leather and the satay chicken was tough. Have never seen noodles so overcooked they just stuck together almost like a paste. Will never order from here again. That £30 I won’t see again

Every time we order with this establishment something goes wrong, which is a shame because the food seems good, and whoever answers telephone is always so polite. Last time we ordered maybe a couple of months ago I called up to check they they weren’t going to put egg in my food due to an allergy, and the owner then completely forgot to input our order, so after waiting 2 hours and food never turning up we called back to be told our order wasn’t even sent to the kitchen Thought that today we would give a second chance because everyone makes mistakes, but once again after calling up to say no egg in the noodles the dish has turned up with egg in it. They won’t offer a refund or send out any replacement noodles, so once again I don’t have a dinner, they have just offered 10% off of next order, but safe to say as they can’t get it right I won’t ever be ordering from them again. Genuinely don’t like making complaints or giving poor reviews to hospitality industry establishments as I know how tough it is and how hard people work but not offering anything back and such shocking service when something as serious as an allergy just seems inexcusable

was majorly disappointed last time but thought id give it a go again, arrived in 25 minutes and was much better overall than last time, still not the best chinese ive had but defo filled the hole and pleased with it compared to last time :)

Ordered through Just Eat, phoned up after 1hr 30mins and was told food was on its way. Phoned back after 2hrs and was told food hasnt even been cooked. After telling them it wasnt good enough i eneded up getting shouted at over the phone so i demended a refund which i will wait and find out if this happens. Horrible service by rude and unhelpful people, feel sorry for the young lady who has to lie over the phone for the manager and cook.

Absolutely appalling service. Ordered 2 hours ago.. the app told me it was on its way and then suddenly “delivered”. Decided to call to be told that it was a mistake and it hasn’t even been cooked yet and I’d have to wait another 45mins. Asked for a refund to be told to call back tomorrow as the manager is too busy to talk to me. Advised can also do through the app but won’t be refunded delivery. The worst service i have ever had and now £20 down and no food

We order a pizza box every time, we pay a bit extra for them to deliver to us because we’re just outside their delivery zone, can honestly say the service, the food absolutely everything is phenomenal! My favourite Chinese place to eat ❤️

Have just ordered a huge amount of food from the Golden Horse, and was super impressed with everything. Excellent quality, and incredibly tasty. Many thanks to everyone involved. Can’t comment on the atmosphere as we had a takeaway.

Think this place misunderstands why customers order a takeaway, so for me its because , ooo a thought popped into my head and said, hey I fancy a Chinese takeaway and I'm now hungry for one and I can't be arsed to cook , so I order and that voice on the phone says yeh sure be there in like 45 mins , great ill get a film ready and the plates set out , okay films started and empty plates are looking at me like where is the food , and hour and 45 mins later pass , I mean I understand if you plucking the feathers off the chickens yourself and rolling the egg noodles but really ? Okay let's call the place up , errm let me go check says this voice on the other end of my phone , okay waiting another half hour an now I not hungry for that pang of I fancy a Chinese and reminds myself of why I can cook and save money , thanks for that memory ! Chucked your push threw the door menu in the bin where it belongs and cancelled the order 😅

I am really not happy!! I order at 5:10pm by the app and it said 6:30 delivery, then changed to 6:50 to 7: 10 after 6:30pm, not only did I have two kids to feed awaiting and myself heavily pregnant stervaving at this point to call at 8:10 to say it was on its way to use its been out for delivery now! I live 3 minutes away so at half past 7 we called again to ask to be told there busy, no refunds it be here when it's here and hung up the phone on my partner , 7:35 way over 2 hours after ordering it turned up cold and soggy, luckily my partner reheated and the kids and I had food to eat at 8pm!!!! I won't be using again

food was atrocious... ordered at 6.30 and turned up 8.50 after being given a time of 7.30 which then changed to 8.30 just before 7. chow mein was inedible. chilli beef was dripping wet yet the meat overly dry was like chewing wet cat litter. rice was still hard and barely cooked.... will not be going back ever again!

Lovely food but always need to order early. Ordered at 5.30pm, original was due to arrive 6.30, time changed to 7-7.20 delivery but arrived just after 8pm. Food was delicious and would order again I just always know it’s a busy place and takes over an hour to come.

Don’t order from here unless you want a midnight meal!! 2 1/2 hours to deliver, lied to and hung up on when called on 2 occasions to ask where food was. Then had to walk down the street as the driver couldn’t find the house, in a very standard street just round the corner from them!

Ordering from here ruined our evening, we knew their service time could be quite slow, so we ordered at 6:25, told it would be delivered by 7:23, by 8pm no food, so I called to be told it was the delivery drivers fault and it would be 15 minutes, by 8:35 still no food, so called again to say this is unacceptable, only to be dismissed and then hung up on! Driver called at 8:50; lost in a standard street just round the corner from them so we had to go out to find him. Finally got food at 9, 2 1/2 hours after ordering. Very greasy, food was scalding hot so at least we know their microwaves are working!!!

I placed an order on their website and received confirmation for the order but received absolutely nothing! Phoned a few times but no answer. So I can't really rate the food,but the service is clearly terrible,if they were shut for any reason their website should state this.

Absolutely ridiculous!!! called to be told delivery would take an hour so placed an order called again after an hour and a half and be told it would be another hour and 20 minutes decided to go and collect when I arrived 20 minutes later food hadn’t even started to be cooked the owner then proceeded to shout at me and I decided to walk out. I went to a nearby Chinese and had a delicious meal. Needless to say I would not recommend this place and I will never return AVOID AVOID AVOID

Zero points I’m afraid because of the delivery. Waited 2 hours advised MIGHT be delivered in half hour. They put phone down on me. Terrific shame cause food delicious. Please employ someone who tells the truth on the phone. Please sort out the appalling service delivering food or make your business collect only.

Golden Horse, has got very poor, food arrives late and cold, and has become tasteless the Prawn toast was an oil slick, also order was wrong. I’m surprised they are still in business as they don’t deserve to be, as there is nothing good to say about this Chinese takeaway. Will never use again.

0 points for having to wait over 3 hours with still no food. No care and blame on a new driver. I told them they should stop accepting orders but was ignored and told after all this wait we could have our money back. Just eat you need to remove this place of your list as it will now affect me ever ordering from this place and through you 😡 I have now requested money back and not heard from them. Disgraceful service………..

Food was cold as wasn't on time

I ordered at 1759 and the food was delivered at 1948. The original delivery time was between 1855-1915, after chasing up this was extended to 1945. If the restaurant was busy perhaps we should know at the time of ordering. The food was ok although one dish was cold. I will not be using this restaurant again.

Food was nice, however took so long to get delivered. 30 mins after it should have arrived we called to check and we were told we were next to be delivered. 40 minutes later called again and then food arrived around 10 mins later. I appreciate it is a Saturday night and it’s probably busy but 3 hours from ordering to getting food is a bit much.

The food was terrible, it was cold when it arrived, the prawn toast tasted like chickpeas, the chilly beef tasted like Christmas pudding and the sweet and sour prawns were cold.

Where do I start. Ordered a takeaway via their website on NYE. I fully understand its a really busy night so expected some delay however the food didn't arrive until 3 hours after I ordered!!! I called the restaurant 3 times and was fobbed off every single time. First time I was told it was out for delivery.....45 minutes later (bare in mind we live maybe 15 minute drive from the actual restaurant) still no delivery. I ended up calling a second time to then be told by the exact same person that I wasn't told previously that it went out for delivery and instead that they had to wait for the driver to arrive which they now had. At this point, blood is beginning to boil, I told them if it wasn't there in 15 mins I would lose my patience because it was 2 hours at this point. A further hour later, still no food. I called again, guy goes off and pretends to speak to someone, tells me it's out for delivery, I asked for a refund as I didn't believe it would ever turn up. He told me I couldn't have a refund because the food was already cooked and sent out to which I said they have no proof of that, I have no food and nobody has come to my door as I have a camera, the guy goes "well yeah but but but its out for delivery now" I ended up hanging up and then the food finally arrived, soggy, cold and generally not nice at all. We only had 4 items and it was shocking. NEVER AGAIN.

An hour late and freezing cold.

Where do I start, I live in Bh11 so was happy to collect my order on Christmas Eve. We were really looking forward to our meal as rarely get take away these days. I ordered 4 meat dishes & I rice dish. Collected, drove home got the food out & 2 of the dishes were wrong, plus 1 meal missing, phoned straight away & was asked to go back which I didn’t want to do as just got home. The sweet & sour chicken Hong Kong style was so much sauce & veg but very little meat. The chicken with orange sauce was vile, the sauce tasted just like cheap concentrated orange juice & not like a sauce at all, the rice had clearly been reheated as was dry & crispy. Our entire meal went in the bin. I was given a refund for the 2 wrong dishes & ended up cooking sausage rolls as everyone was hungry ! Don’t waste your time or money, awful food & service!

Update Dec 2023: I don't understand the negative reviews for Golden Horse. I've used it for 15+ years, and it's as good as ever. We ordered over the phone & collected it ourselves. The food was freshly cooked and ready when they said. We had mixed meat curry, satay chicken, fried rice, Singapore spicy noodles and sweet & sour chicken. All was fresh, hot, tasty and generous. Efficient and friendly service too. I was worried the place had gone downhill, but not so - it's still great! This takeaway produces consistently good food, very large portions and it's good value too. Does delivery if you can't pick the food up, but waiting times can be quite long as they are usually very busy. Has a restaurant on-site too but this is often pretty quiet for some reason. Recommended.

The service is so disorganised I phoned through at 5pm with my order to collect only 2 dishes!! Told it would be ready by 5.30! So I went to collect it at this time there were 5 other customers all waiting for theirs too a walk came in and ordered theirs…they all left before me…6pm I left the shop with my order!!! Worst service ever!!!

The food was good let down however by the appalling rudeness of the order taker. Swearing and refusing to acknowledge an error. Putting the phone down when challenged and then swearing directly to me when I returned to pick up the missing item. Which I had no problem in paying for. I just wanted a complete meal. Whether it had been an Order error or not is no excuse for the bad language and complete lack of social customer skills. The food was good let down by the person taking the order.

Wouldn’t use them again, didn’t go in the restaurant ordered a takeaway. Ordered our food was told it would be an hour for delivery waiting an 1.5 hours, so phoned them again was told ours would be the next one out for delivery waiting another hour and ten minutes so all together we waited two hours forty minutes. So we decided to go and get it lady in restaurant was so rude couldn’t careless. No customer care what so ever. If you are hungry don’t use

Ordered about 6:40ish with an estimated 7:20-7:40 delivery time. At 7:45 no food but app said enjoy your food as thought delivered. Called up and told that they had a busy night with lots of walk ins that they prioritised and food would be delivered at 8:15. We could either cancel or wait, no discount. Food arrived at 8:35. Shame about service because their food is good.

I don't normally leave reviews but this place is so bad I'd like to save others from wasting their money. The food finally arrived after 2 hours and 2 phone calls chasing it, the order was wrong and the food was disgusting, we binned most of it. Worst Chinese I've ever used.

We had the food delivered. It was an excellent meal:- - Spare ribs - dry - Chicken Satay - perfect satay sauce just enough hot spice. - Special Chowmien with lots of different meats - Crispy seaweed - meat spring rolls - Nice and spicy. - Egg fried rice - plain boiled / steamed rice.

Food delicious BUT placed order at 7:15. Estimated delivery time 8:45-9:05 which is ridiculous but as it was a Saturday night we went with it. Not arrived by the later time. Phoned and they said, in a very grumpy tone, that it was about to go out for delivery. Finally arrived at 9:25! We don’t live too far away!! No apology from delivery driver or on the phone. Over two hours delivery time really!!!

Wrong items in the order (some missing and some we didn’t order). Everything felt quite oily and salty, so edible but not as good as we had expected.

The food was delivered 3 hours after ordering. I had phoned 3 times over the period and each time I was told it would be with us soon. When it eventually arrived at almost 10.00 instead of 8.00 it was poor quality with non crispy chilli beef, slimy beansprouts and cold limp chips. I asked for a refund but none has been given. Avoid this place.

Ordered a meal at 7.00 with a delivery time of 8.10. and was delivered shortly before 10.00. I phoned 3 times and each time it would be with us shortly. Requested a refund after an hour late and none has been given. Food was poor with uncrispy chilli beef and slimy beansprouts and limp cold chips. My advice would be to avoid.

Been waiting 2 hours and still no sign of delivery. Called and was told 40mins. Called again after 40 mins and was told another 20-30mins. Very disappointed as usually so good.

Ordered takeaway at 6-30. Told possibly 1 hour. Phone after 1 hour was told its on its way should be with you soon. Phone back 2 hours later at 8-30, was told it still being cooked in the kitchen. Won't be much longer. Absolute JOKE. When I complained and said its not realy good enough, I was told, WELL WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO? I WOULD SUGGEST YOU ALL AVOID THIS PLACE. Ordered a take away, the ribs were virtually inedible, obviously had been reheated and were dry and hard. Last time we ordered a delivery for 7.30 pm it turned up half an hour early and cold. We thought we give it another go, bit very dissapointed.

Awful food, we’ve not eaten it and ridiculously late

Ordered over the phone and went to collect to be told cash only. Told there’s a cash point nearby, however I only have my phone. Who doesn’t take cards these days? Why not tell me over the phone it’s cash only. Really? Fortunately Dominos over the road take cards. Pizza it is then.

Unfortunately my spring rolls looked horrendous, don't know how they were cooked but did not look nice or appetising, they went straight into the bin. The pork was very hard, overcooked, or pre cooked and microwaved, the meat on the ribs was also hard. Overall despite delivering early the meal quality was very low. I haven't used Golden Horse for a long time and wont be using them again.

We orderd and delivery time was between 21:40-22.00 I inquired what was happening with our delivery at 22.10 as still had nothing. It arrived at 22.30 with no explanation or apology for it being late. Food was nice, and we do love ordering from you guys. Just was very unimpressed with delivery timings and no communication about delivery time when I inquired about it being late.

Ordered at 7.35pm, was advised that food would be delivered between 8.20pm and 8.50pm. Had a text at 8.35pm saying food was on its way.....nothing by 9.05pm so rang the restaurant who said it had left the kitchen - we live 2-3 minutes drive away and the food was delivered at 9.30pm! Disappointed with lack of communication - food was OK.

Never again will I order here . When it was 20 mins late phoned restaurant they told me it out for deliver when it finally arrived driver told me they collected it from the shop ten mins ago.

Best of the best Fish chef special I remember was really amazing ~ very authentic and always improving the style of Chinese foods over the years)You won’t regret the decision and I can recommend all my friends too
